Decided to try Mount Heritage Bar and Grill today. This cute new location off Rt. 11 brings a new cuisine (Nepalese) to the area, along with usual American grub (ie chicken tenders, burgers, Philly cheesesteak, etc). Service was great. The owner was one of the three working today. The owner loaded up our tray with food, utensils, condiments and walked it over to us instead of us having to get it ourselves. I don't know if that was bc we came before the rush and he was able to or if that's an every day thing. As we ate and others were getting their to-go orders, I learned that the owner is an honest person. He made sure the recipients of the to-go orders knew the number of drinks that came with their order. I assume someone ordered two meals but only chose one drink, and he told them they got two and to get another one. The space is small but there is plenty of outside seating. I hope they'll find a way to close off the outside and put heaters up to accommodate the upcoming cooler seasons. I wish this place luck, as this location needs a variety in food type and venues!

    8. Fancy Lamb Gyro

This place is great! Little diner with friendly staff, good food ordered at the counter (served in foam containers), and an eclectic atmosphere. Our kiddos loved their cheeseburgers - one of them didn't even want ketchup on his, said it was "really good and like no other cheeseburger" he's ever had. Cheeseburgers came with a bag of Route 11 chips and either a canned soda or bottled water. The adults each got gyros, one with chicken, one with lamb. Delicious especially with the sauce that comes with them. The gyros come with cucumber sauce, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, and a generous number of green olives. One of us picked out the olives but we both enjoyed our gyros. We opted to "make it a combo" for both gyros which was a side of fries and drink each. Only downside was the fries were very salty but still yummy when dipped in the cucumber sauce. We were also impressed that the only employee there tonight was able to serve us so quickly. We'll be back! I look forward to trying the mix over rice next time.

Stopped here yesterday (Oct 19th) for lunch and was not disappointed- the gyro was delicious. Definitely going back for the chicken platter.

I love the vibe and energy of this place, modern yet vintage! Looks like it was an old church in days gone by? The place is pretty big and pretty wide open so I imagine can become loud when it gets full. I ordered a rose from a local winery and the burger. (I was hangry). I took my number and sat wherever I wanted. I sat in front of a giant tv on the wall with pre superbowl stuff going on. My wine came out quickly, it was very nice! The burger came out next, it had cheese, lettuce, tomato and a bacon jam that was just right! The burger was juicy and I loved every bite of it! The burger came with fries that were very hot and crispy!! Zero complaints!!

I was amused by Nick N.'s review of Brock's Gap Service. So I knew I had to experience this place…read moreat least once during my recent trip to Bryce Mountain. As I was out exploring the area, I stopped in at lunch time. I walked in and took a seat at the bar. The guy behind the bar asked if he could help me. I responded I was in for something to eat. The menus are encased in a short plastic holder sitting on the bar (see attached pic). As such, it is not a long menu. I ordered a Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles, plus a bottle of water and a beer - Coors Light in a bottle. While I was waiting, I took note of the ambiance. Two locals sitting across the bar drinking Bud longnecks and smoking cigarettes - talking local stuff - mostly a lot of deer hunting discussions colorfully laden with much cussing. :-) None of the nonsense with folks eyeing me suspiciously - of course I probably look like a local (jeans, Harley-Davidson t-shirt, VT camo ball cap, sunglasses, grizzled unshaven look). Behind the bar on the wall - there are lots and lots of cigarettes, tobacco products, and ammunition for sale. When the burger came out - it was served on a soft white bun. And it was easily one of the blandest, least exciting burgers I've ever eaten. But I was hungry and it was food. It was served with a side of potato chips. After I finished the burger and chips, I chugged down my ice cold Coors Light, paid my bill and was on the road. So, if you want to experience some true backwoods Americana - this is a place to get a taste of it. If you don't mind cigarette smoke.

Guns, burgers and beer…read more Every once in a while you stumble into a place that blows your mind. Or wind up in a joint that you could get your brains blown out. As you push open the worn screen door and step in, you go through a time warp. Not like a cheesy modern chain restaurant that decorated its walls with imitation Chinese made fake antiques. This place is an antique. If you are not a local, don't expect to be welcomed by a bubbly teenage host with lots of flair on her uniform. Picture.... faded trodden floors...elbow worn linoleum bar top...poor lighting...poor air conditioning...suspicious local patrons....guns and ammunition on display ...a feeling of impending doom as you walk in. There is a large cooler with beer at one end of the place. Move through...don't make eye contact, sit down, shut up. I recommend the creaky bench seat with a nice view of the dry river bed from a dirty single pane window. Dont expect service. Get up (everybody stops talking, puts their hand under their shirt) as you move to the waist high bar)...."Hi....uh...I'll have a beer" . After enduring what seems like an eternity...the lady behind the bar slams one down on the bar (deciding what kind you city folk deserve). Take it...go back to your seat (cue sounds of hammers retracting on old western six shooters). The beer is ICE COLD. Probably because your fight or flight instincts have been in full effect (like an impala feeling the claws of a lion nicking at his ass cheeks) and your mouth is hot and dry. Trivia: This is the LAST true "road house" in the USA. You can literally buy a burger, a beer, and a gun with ammunition while sitting at the bar (you have to make the fire arm purchase on a separate ticket....stupid ATF rules). There are lots of guns to choose from...only 2 burgers....cheese or no cheese. If you order a burger endure the deep sighing lady who has to don an apron and heat up the grill. It will be an excellent burger....then again, I'm sure those condemned on death row enjoy that final meal like it was...uh well, their last meal. Bottom line: Places like this don't exist anymore. Cracker Barrell near the interstate would be less risky but the closer you come to death, the more you know you're living. If you're in Broadway....uh....if you're ever lost and end up in Broadway VA, step back in time and have a beer at Brock's Gap Service. Just reach for your wallet when its time to pay the tab.....verrrrrrryyyyy slooooowwwwwlllly.

Great Find In Luray…read more Went hiking with my family in Shenandoah National Park this weekend and overnighted in Luray. We happened across The Chop House by mistake and a lucky one it was! Everything about the meal was fantastic! Our server Pete was terrific. My brother-in-law hit the nail on the head when he said "He was the most unpretentious, informative and friendly server I've run across". Very polite and helpful, you could just tell it made Pete happy to be helpful. The menu is not large, but the dishes we ordered were all top notch. First the Focaccia Bread came and it was just right, a good sigh of things to come. Next the Crab Dip. We are from Annapolis, a crab crazy town on the Chesapeake, where every restaurant has their own "award winning" crab dip, so we are very well acquainted with some of the best, but this one knocked it out of the park. It would win the "Best of Annapolis 2026" if this restaurant was in Annapolis. Next came the Sirloin, at Pete's recommendation. Salted perfectly, and cooked correctly to medium rare, with a side of asparagus cooked to crisp perfection and seasoned with a garlic butter that was just fantastic. We rapped it up with a flight of deserts to share, at Pete's recommendation. Deconstructed Cheese Cake, German Chocolate Cake, Creme Brûlée, and three of their house made ice creams. Again, just Wow. And when the bill came, again a very pleasant surprise. Steak dinner for 4, with cocktails and wine and the bill came to $250. Back in Annapolis that meal would have easily been $400 or more at Lunes Steakhouse, Ruth Chris or the Chart House. My wife and I agreed this meal was better than any we've had at any of these high end resturants. I can't recommend this place highly enough. We'll be back, and nothing against the other servers, but we'll make sure it's on a night Pete is working. Great job Pete and to everyone in the kitchen, just a terrific meal.
