Ate here today and got very sick! Used to come here years ago and the food was really good but it has really gone downhill. Ordered the pulled pork platter with two sides and it was terrible. The apples were cold and tasteless. With the cornbread they used to give you a big square of homemade cornbread but now you get a little muffin shaped piece about 2" in diameter and hard as a rock (see photo). The pulled pork tasted bad and after about five minutes after I was done, it hit my stomach and I got very sick. Luckily there is a Family Dollar store across the street and I went there and bought some Imodium. Had to stick around and use Bonnie Blue's restroom twice before felt comfortable enough to make the 45 minute drive back to my home. Got home and felt so bad that I went straight to bed. Obviously I got food poisoning at Bonnie Blue's and think they left the pork out too long and this is why. See photo of my my receipt and the pulled pork platter. My friend came out to visit and she wanted to stop here for brunch. Seating is tight and since it's cold out no one is sitting outside. We were able to get a bar seat overlooking the parking lot. They do have a big round table if you have a few more ppl in your party. Our neighbor had a ginormous stack of plates and let me say he barely left anything on his plate. He had BBQ. We ordered b'fast food. My eggs were cooked to perfection, potatoes were on point and you got a lot of them, bacon was fantastic and it wasn't limp, and the white bread I had toasted was so yummy. Too bad I don't live in area. Found this place while visiting area. It was an early dinner for three of us so they were not busy. We sat inside which has limited seating. We ordered a three meat platter to share which was more than enough. We decided on brisket, pulled pork, ribs, baked beans and mac & cheese. Also ordered the loaded fries. Our son thought he needed a side salad while ordering which was too much food. The baked beans had more meat than beans. All meats were tender and taste great. Driving back to Washington, D.C. after a weekend in Romney, West Virginia riding the Potomac Eagle, we stopped at Bonnie Blue in Winchester on a Sunday morning. Being a perfect autumn day, they had lots of seating outdoors on their patios. To feed three of us, we ordered their highly recommended pork chops, which sounded odd at first for breakfast, but it was delicious. The pork chops were perfectly cooked and juicy. We went on a weekend and parking is scarce in the lot associated with Bonnie Blue (we got lucky with our timing). There is also street parking available, if you're able to find a spot. Service was average, nothing to rave about and got the job done. And food was average. I'd be down to come back and try their brunch items, maybe some fish, but I'll go elsewhere for my BBQ. What we got: Burnt Ends - 3* comes smothered in sauce which is never, in my opinion, a good sign because it doesn't let the meat speak for itself. I probably wouldn't get it again. "The Diesel" Three Meat Sampler (see the three meats we got below) - 4* great price for the ability to sample three different meats. We didn't love that the meat came out with an additional sauce poured over it, we would've rather had that separate to apply ourselves . Peppered Beef Brisket - 3* I wanted to like it more than I did. It was a bit chewy and the flavour was only alright. Pulled Pork - 3.5* decent meat but also not exceptional. House Smoked Kielbasa - 3.5* good flavour but a bit dry. My favourite of all the meats though. I do wonder if I liked it the best because it wasn't smothered in their house sauce... Side: Hill County Pinto - 4* I really enjoyed them, don't think I've ever had pinto beans for my baked beans before. Side: Mac & Cheese - 3* nothing special, wouldn't get again. BBQ was ok. It was very moist. I couldn't eat 1/2 of the burnt ends because they were ALL fat. The mac and cheese was dry with not much flavor - I had to salt it. Funky quirky BBQ place that used to be an old Esso gas station. Parking is on the street. When walking by, you can see & smell the smoker. We walked in & there is very little seating so we sat at a counter looking outside. We enjoyed the chicken salad, collard greens, potato salad, mac & cheese, & burnt ends app. All were excellent. What a laid-back ambience you will find at Bonnie Blue's! The dining area is decorated with antiques and tin signs right out of grandma's attic. There are some large tables that can accommodate a party of six to eight and a bar with stools around the outer wall of the dining room. Although there were only two of us, we were invited to take one of the larger tables for our comfort. We ate lunch on a summer day. It was rather warm in the dining room as I don't believe that there is any air conditioning here. The fried chicken dinner was some of the best around anywhere. I recommend it highly. read more

The food is okay but the 'dirty", hippie restaurant atmosphere is gross. I realize the building is old (former gas station), but at least clean the floors and get some decent tables and chairs. The bathrooms are decrepit. Toilet seats that are not bolted down, sticky floors, no toilet paper or paper towels. I really wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen. We went into the entrance by the parking lot which (at a quick glance) was kind of like a grungy cafe style. They directed us around to the other side through the deck. There were a couple of tables being used outside and just 2 being used inside- pretty slow which was great for us. We ordered the catfish, Mac n cheese, fried oysters.. my family got the brisket and collard greens which is prepared with pork meat. We enjoyed it all. It even comes with a bread of your choice like a biscuit or cornbread for example. The servers were all kind to us and welcoming. The food was nice and hot and tasted freshly prepared. For the 3 of us, the bill came to $68 with beverages and that extra side of 5 pieces of oysters. We gave a $20 tip. Good experience overall. Would definitely go back. We ordered Steak&Eggs and a Brisket&Eggs Benedict. Both came with the best Breakfast Potatoes - real potato chunked up fried crispy outside and seasoned well. Steak was huge and brisket had the really good smokiness going on. Benedict sauce was mid if I'm being real. Servers were attentive, timely and helpful. The price is up there a little, but seems like a fair value in these times and for that quality of food and preparation. Definitely going back. I know that everyone on Yelp! loves all the quaint little non-chain restaurants and so do I but this place was just not that great. First of all the dining room is very dirty. The floor is filthy. There's dust on the walls and the kitchen and dishwasher area was gross. The hush puppies were 10/10. The rest of it was just OK. I had the Cuban sandwich, it was on some old roll that looked like they cooked it in a dirty fry pan and it had too much mustard. The fries were hand cut, and all had herbs but it all honestly, they were the blandest french fries I've ever eaten. The service was also just so so. We secured reservations for a group of 8 men for breakfast. I had great anticipation for this place based on the good reviews and my son's glowing recommendation. When we arrived we stood at the entrance looking at a perfect empty table that could accommodate our group right in the front room. But NO...a manager type yelled out that our table was reserved in the back room. We were escorted into the back room next to a storage area covered by a curtain. It was not a table, but two tables that were separated in the middle, isolating half of our group. The server was pleasant enough but the service was slow. The breakfast was OK but certainly not as good as you would expect based on the reviews. I have to go against the herd again. I cannot recommend Bonnie Blue. The sauce had a slight visual resemblance to sweet and sour sauce and one of the appetizers was garnished with sliced scallions and sesame seeds; nothing to offend the traditionalists while adding something for the adventurous. The service was also amazing as Ella who was our server had a great personality and made our visit very enjoyable. On our way out after eating we stopped at the front part of the restaurant to tell the owner how special Ella made our first visit to his establishment and we would be back to try lunch soon. It was a gloomy rainy day, but there was something inviting about the bright blue building that looks like it was once a house and the smell of BBQ in the air. I walked in, was greeted by friendly staff, and then got seated at the window bar. It was Winchester Restaurant Week, so I ordered off their restaurant week menu. For $17, I got Phil's crazy stuffed potato with brisket, which came with sides of slaw and cornbread, and the local apple cider mimosa. The brisket was tasty. The potato was indeed stuffed, and so I ended up stuffed. I only managed to finish half of it, and the other half became a meal for another day. The mimosa was refreshing, and it was exactly what I needed after a stressful morning of dealing with my rental car. The baked goods looked tempting, but I was way too full for dessert. Bonnie Blue seems like a solid spot to experience some Southern food and hospitality. The space feels like a combination of homely and quirky. The food is good, and the staff is so welcoming. Bonnie Blue is a local favorite and I was long overdue in checking it out. The vibe is kind of mechanic shop meets restaurant in a haphazard rusty kind of way. Very casual. Service was great , menu heavy on southern favorites like shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. I chose the pimento cheeseburger. The burger tasted like a commercial patty, just meh. Pimento cheese kind of sparse and tasted just like cheddar. French fries were delicious and hand cut and stole the show. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. He enjoyed it but said not the best he's had. I finished off the meal with coffee and passed on dessert. Overall, I would say it was average to good, but by like many I don't get the hype. read more
