If looking for local homey comfort food experience hanging with locals, this place is for you. We ordered hotcakes with gravy along with eggs and corn beef hash, western omelette. Had dinner here, I ordered the meatloaf special with green beans and cucumber salad. The meatloaf was crumbly with large chunks of white bread in it one of the worst meatloafs I've had. The cucumber salad was great, the green beans average canned variety. Waitress was friendly, prices reasonable, cozy atmosphere.. My dining g mate had a tuna melt, on grilled whitebread, mediocre. The chips were crumbled, tasted old. We wouldn't go back. Maybe they had an off day. read more

This used to be a great place to eat. I saw they have a NY Strip dinner for 15 bucks. I should have known better, but was in the mood for a steak. I ordered it med/rare. Well, the steak arrived well-done. I asked the server to take it back. Well, the "cook" said to only charge me $7 for mashed potatoes & green beans. That was also unacceptable, because I wanted a properly cooked steak. I just sent it all back for a complete refund and went to Applebees. Our server, Brooke, was great. Exceptional breakfast! Perfectly fried eggs, crispy bacon and delicious home fries. Everything on my plate was piping hot and just as ordered. The food came quickly too. We wanted breakfast while visiting the area. The restaurant does not have a large seating area but the staff was pleasant and seated us right away. It had an old fashioned fww to it and I just knew the food was going to be great. I ordered Jerry's Breakfast Special(gravy on the side as I don't want gravy on my hotcakes) and a side of grits with coffee(my favorite). Unfortunately, the coffee did not give me my usual joy and the food did not have much flavor or seasoning to my taste. Everybody can have an off day and this was definitely one of them. read more

I took my daughter there after a test done early at the hospital. It was around 9am and they were quite busy but the waitress told us to take a seat with a smile on her face as she was waiting on another customer. She was right over with the menus and asked what we wanted to drink. Well let me tell you that everything on that menu sounded delicious and it was very hard to make up our minds and I ordered the western omelet which came with toast and potatoes that were browned just right, plus I ordered a side of their chipped beef gravy. I was not disappointed with that food it was delicious and we didn't sit very long for the meal to be served which was awesome. They continued to have customers come in and people paying to leave and it wasn't confusing everything went smoothly and there was just a happy and relaxing atmosphere that was very nice. A clean and updated diner that offers outsized portions at undersized prices. I sat at the counter and watched my eggs being scrambled and poured onto the griddle to make up a massive cheese omelet. Every time I go in here I get perfect food just the way I like it. it's also affordable priced and the people are friendly and not loud.

Waited 45 minutes for two eggs, sausage, and potatoes, which came out lukewarm. The waitress did not check on us once and the bathrooms were less than clean. Cute place though. read more

What an improvement. I went back here because I had no food, but this time I fared a lot better. The eggs and meat are still okay, but I sat at the counter today, and the place looked very clean. No grease or mess on it. Plus, they were giving refrigerator magnets away to promote themselves. The grits I had also were not watery and were not scalding. The home fries were clean and had good zest (let's face it, no home fries will be as good as Waffle House, in my opinion they have the best in the business). The pancakes were still good. I spoke with Lynette and she says business was good her first week, but she's exhausted, and can't wait for thanksgiving. Very friendly staff too. Definition of a greasy spoon diner. Weak coffee. In a town of cute restaurants, this was the opposite.

Having passed the diner many times, I had an occasion to stop for a late morning breakfast. The parking lot was deceptively sparse but upon entry, 3 of 4? Booths were occupied as well as 1 at the counter. Being a small diner, I was greeted immediately and offered a seat at the country. The decor is 1950-1960s kitch that is so often copied but rare authentic as it is in this diner. My drink order, coffee was fulfilled almost immediately as I looked over the menu. I opted for Jerri's Breakfast Special 2 hot cakes/gravy, 2 eggs, meat and coffee. I hadn't heard of gravy on pancakes but was intrigued. It turns out that I had a choice of sausage gravy or creamed chipped beef and a meat choice that included corned beef has - SCORE! The order arrived fairly quick on 2 separate plates. The hot cakes were enormous and were covered with a gigantic serving of SOS that completely covered both hot cakes. The eggs (over hard) were as request, not cooked completely to death with a corned beef portion about the size of a large sausage patty. At least I wouldn't be hungry until the next day! The hot cakes were delicious and a very surprising compliment to the Chipped Beef or perhaps vice versa. The corned beef has was fried crisp but amazingly not greasy. All this for $8.99 is quite a bargain. Just be forewarned to come hungry. Next time, I'll go for the Little Ladies Breakfast Special so I don't just go back home and take a nap! Regardless, I'll be back! read more

Best diner! The place you become a regular at. This diner opened in 1957 and my mom would go in when she was younger so I was eager to try it when I saw it was still open. Friendly staff, fantastic diner environment and a wonderful home kitchen breakfast smell as you walk in. I had a breakfast sandwich that was delicious with home fries and a pancake and my husband has 4 eggs bacon home fries and toast with coffee and water and it was only $18! read more

I went back to the diner from my childhood and it did not disappoint. Nothing has changed-- they even still serve the same milkshakes-- at the SAME PRICE. Exactly what a diner should be. Service was awful. The cups looked like George Washington took the first sips out of them. I asked if they had sausage patties or links. I was told "patties". Maybe the best crab cake I've ever had. And definitely for $10 with two sides! Excellent service and very cool vibe. Not a very nice experience. Portions were small, pricey for the quality, service erratic and the atmosphere was not as nice as other diners in Winchester. Example: Ordered a steak and cheese sub with French fries. Came on on a hotdog roll and there were 10 fries on the plate. Not exactly sure what was remodeled as the booth we were in had a spring sticking out under the table and you could still smell cigarette smoke in that old paneling. We won't be back. read more

No good. Went in after being away three years. Did not realize it changed hands. Only a couple of customers where before when I went in when it was Amherst, it was always busy no matter what time of day. Ordered fish and asked server what kind and if it was battered. You know, hot battered fish? She said it was battered and a large piece. When I received it, it was a flat disk, dry and not battered, but bread crumbs. I am pretty sure if I slung it hard enough it would sail across the street with no problem. Will not be returning. Prices too high and bad menu choices. read more

I went in with my wife on a Saturday morning. Wife had pancakes and gravy, loved them. I had the western omelette (they actually use eggs and beat them instead of many places using liquid eggs). If I weren't two hours away from this great little place, I'd be a regular. Three of us had an eclectic brunch: hamburger with fried onion rings, barbeque sandwich with a side of fries, and a bowl of sausage gravy with a side of grits. The hamburger was the biggest surprise - hand-made and cooked just right with freshly made and perfectly fried onion rings. Double yum!! The sausage gravy was fabulous and the grits were quite good. The barbeque was fine - not as amazingly wonderful as the gravy or burger, but quite good. And the staff were so nice!! The writer of the local paper said everything was homemade. Apparently they haven't been there. In my opinion instant mashed potatoes are not homemade. The gravy was probably from some envelope and the green beans tasted like they came from a microwave with bacon bits thrown in for seasoning. Didn't look like it was busy yesterday so I stopped in for lunch. Sign on the door saying that wearing a mask upon entering and leaving was necessary and not to dawdle over your meal since seating is limited. There is no counter seating and every other booth is not being used. The available booths were all taken and I was asked to wait. That was find, two of the booths looked like they would soon be vacated. One booth with one diner was vacated, wiping his mouth and nose with a napkin he tossed on the table. No mask as he came to pay his bill. Waitress told me to go have a seat and she'd be back to clean off the table. I waited. She came back, got the dishes and again told me to have a seat. I went back there but did not sit down until she was going to clean the area. She came back with a wet towel and wiped down the tabletop. No sprays to clean with, just the damp towel. Nothing else was touched, not the seats, not the napkin dispenser, the salt, pepper, catsup or syrup bottles. I ordered a sandwich to go. The other couple that had been finishing up, did so, not putting masks on while they chatted with the cashier, then they went out to smoke cigarettes. I was pretty disgusted by the hypocrisy of the place. From the signage it seemed the place is being careful. The reality is that they are not. No wonder this virus is back and spreading. read more

Went for breakfast; went in and stood at the front door for almost 10 minutes without being acknowledged. Made eye contact with 4 different waitresses, who shot back looks of disgust. A "be right with you" or "get out"would have at least given us some idea that we were acknowledged while we were waiting to be seated. This place is small, maybe 900 sq ft. No excuse, went to papermill place, which was 10 times busier, and no issues. Can't comment on the food, but this dump is off the list. read more
