After a day of exploring and driving, it was time to find a spot for a rest and the fact that there is a parking lot across the street with free charging stations is a big bonus. We arrived at around 6pm and the only seat remaining was in the corner with the speakers right behind us, playing good (but loud) music. Too loud for discussion, we enjoyed our phones while eating and drinking this evening. I enjoyed their "Taking Water" light lager and Mrs. K. consumed two of their mocktails. With it, the "White Noise" pizza topped with caramelized onions, spinach, ricotta and banana peppers was a treat. Big enough to share and not be overly stuffed. Two squares each was enough. It's a family-friendly spot with great drinks and great pizza. A very good spot, just find a seat further away from the music blasting and it'll be perfect for all. We visited on a Sunday in July that coincided with orientation at JMU. Maybe that is why it was very busy around dinner time. We waited a bit and eventually got a table. The staff seemed a little overwhelmed but they were doing their best and we got menus before too long. I had the Negative Boogie which was excellent and my wife had the Hop Forward which was out of this world. We both got the pizza which was ok but a little too bready for me. I wouldn't get it again but I am also not saying it is bad, just not my cup of tea. Our daughter got the pizza rolls which were very nice. All in all, a great experience in a cool space. We will definitely be back next time we are in Harrisonburg! read more

We visited on a Friday night around 8pm. It was very crowded inside, and very loud because of the live music. We were able to get our beers pretty quickly from the gal at the end of the bar, and we were able to find seats outside. There were some vendors outside and some food truck set up, but we didn't have a chance to check them out because it started raining. We had the Ludwig and the Major Tom Beers, which were pretty good. We would have liked to have had another beer but decided instead to get a four pack to go. We would definitely come back again, hopefully when it's a little less crowded. read more

We came across this spot on a road trip back to Charlotte from PA. We needed a dog friendly spot, that also had food (and beer), and this was above and beyond what we expected! Not only was it dog friendly inside, but it has great beer and delicious pizza. There was also an amazing book area that our kids could borrow and read. It checked all our boxes! The pizza was honestly delicious (we did a make your own) and so was the beer. My only complaint? We live four hours away!! We will certainly stop here on our next trek on 81. read more

I really enjoyed this brewery. When I did visit I was there for a private event and had the opportunity to try several beers and a bunch of their appetizers. Everything was delicious and I would definitely return if ever in the area. read more

Absolutely love Pale Fire: between an ever rotating tap of fantastic brews, to rock, solid pizzas, this place is right up my alley. We love both locations, and although we are mug club members at the Basye location, Harrisonburg is dog friendly, and on a cold day there is no better place to warm up with a stout and some pizza, and my pup by my side. For me a perfect meal here consist of the kolsch (Ludwig) and a Truffle Shuffle pizza, 10 out of 10! The big pretzel is rock solid too! read more

Relaxed local vibe with a friendly, casual atmosphere. Fabulous beer selection with a couple ciders, and knowledgeable staff happy to help you find something to enjoy. Get some pizza and a shareable (cheesy bread sticks and the artichoke dip were hits for us). Easy free parking across the street. They also do cary out food. A nice place to relax and vibe. read more

A very nice working brewery. A good sized bar as well as a decent inside and outside seating area. A good choice of beers and an awesome food choices. Everyone comes here for the Detroit style pizza. Unfortunately they have become more of a club for the students than a family friendly brewery. It's 7 pm on a Saturday night and they had a rude bouncer out checking IDs. I think if you go during the day or when students aren't in town, it's fine. The pizza is good and their bartenders are friendly. read more

It is always very loud in whether you go during trivia hour or not. There is not much seating inside and we often go in to have to leave because there's no space. Their mixed drinks are ok. Their pizza is ok too. Nothing exceptional but a nice vibe if you like trivia. I'd recommend going to the bar to order if you want something as it can take a while for your waiter to come back. read more

What's better than quality beer? Oh, just some quality beer food to go with it! Checking out local breweries is only second to local coffee shops when I'm in a new place. And this was definitely one to visit. I saw the menu and landed there for supper. The evening air was crisp, the fireplace was lit (yeah, they have like an entire reading room setup at one end of the brewery), and the aromas were dancing like someone already three pints in. Having walked and wondered all day, I had food on the brain. I ordered the breadsticks and chicken bacon ranch Detroit style pizza. The vibe of the place is one I would be a regular at if I lived here. Also, the fact that it's coupled with not-scorched-earth-temperatures like here in Georgia. Fast, delicious, and more than enough to fill me up. I will be back to try more next time around. Also, don't forget to check-in. Doing so gets you a free logo pint glass! read more

Great beer and great music! We were in town for a JMU game and to visit our student- went on a Friday night and had a great time!

If you are looking for a place with good vibes, good beer, and weekly fun events, this is it. My friends and I come at least once a week to enjoy our favorite drinks and participate in their events (such as Singo, or Trivia nights). They have good beer options, and have recently started serving cocktails as well. You can also order food, which is also superb (the pizza or spinach artichoke dip are my favs) and it's overall just a cozy vibe. Staff are also very nice and quick! read more

This is a great place! The interior is inviting, warm and cozy with a couch and "library" room to the side. The bar is in the middle and also really great outside dining. Believe it or not, I was here twice in a 24 hour period. My sister and I were visiting my brother (my sister from Texas and me from Philly) as he is a professor at a nearby university. During the day while he taught classes, my sister and I explored the downtown and happened upon Fire Brewing. My dear sister happens to have a full blown shot glass collection but doesn't really drink that much (go figure) but was happy to try a beer flight with me. I'm definitely not a beer expert but this selection was outstanding and even my dear sister *almost* made it through her flight because the beer was so tasty. The sour was a stand out. We shared a huge, fresh, perfectly doughy pretzel with delicious cheese and stone ground mustard. When my bro finished teaching he suggested this place for pizza. My sister and I told him we had been there during the day but happy to return and we did! More beer and a delicious white pizza with mushrooms and peppers (my sis is a vegetarian...hmmm... I'm seeing a theme here, haha). The pizza is very thick crust and delicious. We shared the green salad and it easily fed the three of us and was tasty. More beer! My sister, now that she has become a beer expert asked for the sour. I had an IPA. Once again, just as good as before. If you find yourself in Harrisonburg this is the place to go! read more

Came here on a Saturday night for some pizza and beer after hiking. We had a dog so we kept her outside and my boyfriend stayed with her while I went in for details. I was told I could order inside or they would have someone come out and take our order. The woman who took care of us sitting in the lower area was very attentive and nice! The food and beer all came out very fast. We were glad to sit outside because not only was it a nice evening but there was a band inside and OMG THEY WERE SO LOUD. It was painful. Definitely check this place out if you're passing through! read more

Austin is a great host who explained the background of the brewery and its craft beers knowledgeably, at length, and with a smile. I'm not a beer drinker but when I 'fessed up he made me feel included by introducing me to their Happy Magpie. Happy Magpie is a pastry stout made from the Magpie Diner's Vanilla Braid pastries. It was delicious. Hubby had a flight of 5 beers and enjoyed each. His favorite was the Arrant beer featuring orange and lemon notes. We snacked on cheesy breadsticks with chicken. They were flavorful and perfectly cooked/not doughy. We left satisfied and we will be back! BTW I regret missing the opportunity to look through the glass wall and watch the brewery in action. Next time we will arrive at lunchtime and catch the action. read more

For Detroit style, it's "OK". Not the best dough (just an opinion), and certainly not enough of that caramelized texture I am accustomed to eating. Also, I'd be in agreement that the small (basically personal) size is a bit pricey, even for Detroit style. Also, may I suggest offering fresh garlic as a topping? That would be a very welcome addition Service was great...until it was not. The first bartender was excellent in communicating beer styles. When he left, a young lady at the bar seemed to ignore a few of us when pint glass was nearing empty and the menu slide out to the edge. I was trying to order. Beer offerings great, particularly the hazy IPA! read more

This could be a pretty cool place if the service wasn't so bad. If it was busy we would have understood (former server myself). But in this case it just seemed to be inattentive servers or a poor table system. We waited 20m for a food order to be taken. Once the food arrived, they served 2 out of 3 dishes. Waited anither 20 minutes after the first 2 dishes arrived on the table for thw 3rd to appear. Getting beer refills involved chasing a server down. We get our check - and after waiting 15 minutes for it to be picked up, we decided to go to the bar and cash out. The beer is pretty good. The food is hit and miss - big pretzel and 504 pizza were great. The 'Italian sandwich' was another story. A few pieces of salami and pepperoni on a ciabatta roll with shreds of cheese. read more

Every time my husband and I are on a road trip we stop and get pizza and beer from here! The gluten-free pizza is absolutely amazing! We stopped by with our dog on a spring break trip and it was nice to be able to sit on the patio with the dog. We were also told they allow dogs inside which is not the norm at most "dog friendly" places, so that is a plus. My husband ordered an IPA and enjoyed it. The food was good, however it took a long while to arrive. And, right before all the food came out I was informed they were out of salad mix and I would have to pick something else. You would think they would have discovered that earlier and since they only have one salad on the menu they could have that available to those trying to eat a bit better? I quickly switched to a grilled veggie sandwich, so my families pizza, chicken fingers and chicken parm sandwich all came out and got to watch them eat while I waited for my food to be cooked. Not ideal and the visit took a lot longer than we had hoped. Our server was great though, he was attentive and pleasant. read more

Service was great. Beer was OK. Pizza was overpriced, $30 for a 'veg out' pizza with very little veggies on it at all

Don't waste your time or money here. Service was terrible. Food was way overpriced. Horrible waiter. Food took forever to come out. Was not worth the wait. Pizza was not even dough it was bread. Italian sandwich was soaked with grease. Waiter checked on us and asked if everything came out good before we even got all the food. Saw the food sitting in the window and waiter walked by it numerous times. Had to get up and ask for it and his response was "I'm working on it, I'm the only one working" which was not true at all. We asked for lemons and he went over and grabbed the slices with his unwashed bare hands. He was not even the one to bring out the other food. Asked for more water and he told us we had to get it ourselves with the "water station". For some reason they have a library in the brewery. Please don't come here. read more

Food was amazing. My husband and I got two pizzas and had almost a full pizza left over. It's very filling. We thought it was small so we ordered two, but to our surprise, we had so much leftover. The beer was amazing and the peach cider was crisp. The brewery was a welcoming place and the set up was comfortable. Patio seating, open garages so the indoor seating was getting some air, and a couch by the fireplace/library. Our pup was treated well and welcomed. He was giving a pupcup. We will stop at the brewery each time we travel from Maryland to the Carolina's. Awesome way to break up the drive. read more

This is a neat place to stop in for a beer. The building has been repurposed so that is pretty cool. There is outdoor & indoor seating. They are dog friendly as well! The beer selection is good, something for everyone. I love that they have Blue Ridge Bucha as a drink option too. The Detroit style pizza is different than what we're used to but still very good. I have soy allergy & I can eat the pizza without a reaction. So that's a huge plus. The best part about Pale Fire is the people they hire. Everyone is kind, patient, & fun to be around. I know you're not supposed to have favorites but... Kimberly stands out as the best server ever!!!! She's just so down to earth, kind, welcoming, attentive, & amazing!!!! I REALLY enjoyed Pale Fire Brewing. We ordered a large Meat Lovers and a large Hawaiian and gobbled them both up. My husband had the $10 beer flight which was awesome. The pizza was absolutely delicious. So so tasty. My brother enjoyed the cookie sandwich but they're not house made and were tiny. Service was a bit slow but it was a laid back vibe so can't complain. The beers and pizza here are FIRE! Lol But seriously, such a great spot to relax and unwind after a long day of hiking. The inside is dog-friendly, which was super nice. The flight is reasonably priced and allowed me to try five of their brews which I loved because the tap list sounded so good! I was very satisfied with every one. But the real winner was the pizza. Don't know how but they managed to make the vegan cheese not only melt but brown!!! It had that Detroit crisp you expect and crave that most vegan cheeses don't deliver on. The red sauce was amazing. And the hot honey drizzle was the perfect touch of spicy, sweetness that I now wish was available everywhere I get pizza. Never would have guessed what an amazing flavor combination that would be with pizza. Amazing! read more
