We came across this spot on a road trip back to Charlotte from PA. We needed a dog friendly spot, that also had food (and beer), and this was above and beyond what we expected! Not only was it dog friendly inside, but it has great beer and delicious pizza. There was also an amazing book area that our kids could borrow and read. It checked all our boxes! The pizza was honestly delicious (we did a make your own) and so was the beer. My only complaint? We live four hours away!! We will certainly stop here on our next trek on 81. read more

Absolutely love Pale Fire: between an ever rotating tap of fantastic brews, to rock, solid pizzas, this place is right up my alley. We love both locations, and although we are mug club members at the Basye location, Harrisonburg is dog friendly, and on a cold day there is no better place to warm up with a stout and some pizza, and my pup by my side. Unfortunately they have become more of a club for the students than a family friendly brewery. It's 7 pm on a Saturday night and they had a rude bouncer out checking IDs. It is always very loud in whether you go during trivia hour or not. There is not much seating inside and we often go in to have to leave because there's no space. Their mixed drinks are ok. Their pizza is ok too. Nothing exceptional but a nice vibe if you like trivia. I'd recommend going to the bar to order if you want something as it can take a while for your waiter to come back. read more

What's better than quality beer? Oh, just some quality beer food to go with it! Checking out local breweries is only second to local coffee shops when I'm in a new place. And this was definitely one to visit. I saw the menu and landed there for supper. The evening air was crisp, the fireplace was lit (yeah, they have like an entire reading room setup at one end of the brewery), and the aromas were dancing like someone already three pints in. Having walked and wondered all day, I had food on the brain. I ordered the breadsticks and chicken bacon ranch Detroit style pizza. The vibe of the place is one I would be a regular at if I lived here. Also, the fact that it's coupled with not-scorched-earth-temperatures like here in Georgia. This is a great place! The interior is inviting, warm and cozy with a couch and "library" room to the side. The bar is in the middle and also really great outside dining. Believe it or not, I was here twice in a 24 hour period. My sister and I were visiting my brother (my sister from Texas and me from Philly) as he is a professor at a nearby university. During the day while he taught classes, my sister and I explored the downtown and happened upon Fire Brewing. My dear sister happens to have a full blown shot glass collection but doesn't really drink that much (go figure) but was happy to try a beer flight with me. I'm definitely not a beer expert but this selection was outstanding and even my dear sister *almost* made it through her flight because the beer was so tasty. The sour was a stand out. We shared a huge, fresh, perfectly doughy pretzel with delicious cheese and stone ground mustard. When my bro finished teaching he suggested this place for pizza. My sister and I told him we had been there during the day but happy to return and we did! More beer and a delicious white pizza with mushrooms and peppers (my sis is a vegetarian...hmmm... I'm seeing a theme here, haha). The pizza is very thick crust and delicious. We shared the green salad and it easily fed the three of us and was tasty. More beer! But in this case it just seemed to be inattentive servers or a poor table system. We waited 20m for a food order to be taken. Once the food arrived, they served 2 out of 3 dishes. Waited anither 20 minutes after the first 2 dishes arrived on the table for thw 3rd to appear. Getting beer refills involved chasing a server down. We get our check - and after waiting 15 minutes for it to be picked up, we decided to go to the bar and cash out. The beer is pretty good. Came here on a Saturday night for some pizza and beer after hiking. We had a dog so we kept her outside and my boyfriend stayed with her while I went in for details. I was told I could order inside or they would have someone come out and take our order. The woman who took care of us sitting in the lower area was very attentive and nice! We were also told they allow dogs inside which is not the norm at most "dog friendly" places, so that is a plus. My husband ordered an IPA and enjoyed it. The food was good, however it took a long while to arrive. And, right before all the food came out I was informed they were out of salad mix and I would have to pick something else. You would think they would have discovered that earlier and since they only have one salad on the menu they could have that available to those trying to eat a bit better? I quickly switched to a grilled veggie sandwich, so my families pizza, chicken fingers and chicken parm sandwich all came out and got to watch them eat while I waited for my food to be cooked. I'm not a beer drinker but when I 'fessed up he made me feel included by introducing me to their Happy Magpie. Happy Magpie is a pastry stout made from the Magpie Diner's Vanilla Braid pastries. It was delicious. Hubby had a flight of 5 beers and enjoyed each. His favorite was the Arrant beer featuring orange and lemon notes. We snacked on cheesy breadsticks with chicken. They were flavorful and perfectly cooked/not doughy. We left satisfied and we will be back! BTW I regret missing the opportunity to look through the glass wall and watch the brewery in action. Italian sandwich was soaked with grease. Waiter checked on us and asked if everything came out good before we even got all the food. Saw the food sitting in the window and waiter walked by it numerous times. Had to get up and ask for it and his response was "I'm working on it, I'm the only one working" which was not true at all. We asked for lemons and he went over and grabbed the slices with his unwashed bare hands. He was not even the one to bring out the other food. Asked for more water and he told us we had to get it ourselves with the "water station". For some reason they have a library in the brewery. Please don't come here. read more

The beer was amazing and the peach cider was crisp. The brewery was a welcoming place and the set up was comfortable. Patio seating, open garages so the indoor seating was getting some air, and a couch by the fireplace/library. Our pup was treated well and welcomed. He was giving a pupcup. This is a neat place to stop in for a beer. The building has been repurposed so that is pretty cool. There is outdoor & indoor seating. They are dog friendly as well! The beer selection is good, something for everyone. I love that they have Blue Ridge Bucha as a drink option too. The Detroit style pizza is different than what we're used to but still very good. I have soy allergy & I can eat the pizza without a reaction. So that's a huge plus. The best part about Pale Fire is the people they hire. Everyone is kind, patient, & fun to be around. I know you're not supposed to have favorites but... Kimberly stands out as the best server ever!!!! She's just so down to earth, kind, welcoming, attentive, & amazing!!!! I REALLY enjoyed Pale Fire Brewing. We ordered a large Meat Lovers and a large Hawaiian and gobbled them both up. My husband had the $10 beer flight which was awesome. The pizza was absolutely delicious. So so tasty. My brother enjoyed the cookie sandwich but they're not house made and were tiny. Service was a bit slow but it was a laid back vibe so can't complain. I found it funny that they had the Joy of Painting Bob Ross show playing on the television. I really loved the aesthetic and decor of the place as well. The flight is reasonably priced and allowed me to try five of their brews which I loved because the tap list sounded so good! I was very satisfied with every one. But the real winner was the pizza. Don't know how but they managed to make the vegan cheese not only melt but brown!!! It had that Detroit crisp you expect and crave that most vegan cheeses don't deliver on. The red sauce was amazing. And the hot honey drizzle was the perfect touch of spicy, sweetness that I now wish was available everywhere I get pizza.
