4/13/2025: We didn't know we needed reservations, so we were offered outaide, but it was too chilly (49*). Luckily there were a couple seats at the bar. Our bartender/server was Lashone and she was funny, fast and friendly! She was pouring drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant and didn't miss a beat!! The breakfast menu is small but everything sounded fantastic. I chose the Steak Tacos; my husband chose the brie and bacon frittata (added by the chef since the quiche was sold out. Steak tacos were delicious (see pic). Menu said they had steak, cheesy scrambled eggs, tomato salsa, breakfast potatoes and cilantro. I didn't see or taste any potatoes, but the tacos were still delicious! I'd only recommend draining the salsa through a sieve because of the excess juice affecting the integrity of the tortilla. My husband's frittata was awful. The eggs were dry; he compared them to "eggs at the bottom of the warming tray at a cheap breakfast buffet." The chef also served a side salad alongside. My husband asked about subbing potatoes and Ms. Lashone made it happen. She was the star of our brunch: drinks were delicious, the conversational quips were quick and funny. She was attentive without being intrusive and made sure we felt welcomed and taken care of. 5 stars for her and my food; 1 for the frittata. I don't want to average it and tank the rating. THE BEIGNETS!! I don't even remember what else I ordered for brunch because the beignets were a dream. Crispy outside, delicious, doughy inside. Cooked so perfectly. An order comes with six. Three are covered in powdered sugar and the other three are cinnamon. The cappuccino was a little small but great quality. I loved our waitress. She was fun and attentive. The restaurant has a really cool vibe with the bank vault inside. I'd highly recommend and will be coming back again! read more

I visited this spot for lunch on a cowork day with a teammate. When we first walked in, we were greeted by an incredible smell. This got us really excited to try the food. It was a beautiful day outside so we asked for an outdoor seat. Our waitress was extremely kind and attentive even with outdoor seating. We love sharing food so opted for family style. Overall the food was a 3.5 star experience for me. We ordered from the brunch menu, so I'd be curious to return for a different menu. We ordered the jerk chicken hash, steak tacos, truffle fries. We were a bit confused because the jerk chicken hash came with steak and not chicken. It was still good. I liked the mix of sweet potatoes and potatoes. The steak tacos were fun. I loved the steak inside, but something about the egg wasn't for me. Our truffle fries were tasty, but very light on the truffle flavor. I'm excited to return to try a different menu. read more

I liked how affordable everything was (compared to Northern Virginia) but i thought that the waitress was definitely a bit straight forward, and kept rushing us out of there the moment we started slowing down on eating. The restaurant is in a cool, refurbished building with a nice atmosphere that was busy on a Sunday morning. I truly thought I'd like it, but sadly, I didn't. I sat at the bar, and it took a while to get a menu or water, but what was truly disappointing was the food. I ordered a fried chicken sandwich, and it was so bland and primarily breading. I didn't even attempt the sandwich because it was so big, but once I dug in, half of the girth disappeared with chunks of breading. Honestly I couldn't love this place more! I love a restaurant that has that good energy feeling when you walk in and this place has it. It's small and I recommend you make a reservation but it's totally worth it. The music, the people, the food, just all chefs kiss. We had the jerk bowl, a waffle and a kids plate. The kids plate was a good bit of eggs one slice of bacon and a bowl of fruit. The fruit would be my only complaint it tasted unripe or like it was from a can, just mushy and gross. My toddler wouldn't eat it and honestly merited would I. Otherwise it was a delicious plate. My waffle was also quite delicious. Cooked perfectly with a nice heaping of butter, just again so good. The jerk bowl had sweet potatoes and perfectly braised chicken, and an egg and a tomatillo-pineapple cruda that was seriously a beautiful combination. I highly recommend you go and give it a try! We had two drinks one was the around the way girl, which is an alcohol infused iced coffee which was delicious. It had a good punch to it, but it's sweet! The oat milk and brown sugar syrup make for a very sweet combo so if that's not your vibe I don't recommend it. The other was a champagne based drink that had elderberry syrup in (apologize I didn't remember to write down the name) but it was basically a mimosa without all the OJ. Stopped in for breakfast on weekend morning. Love how it is an old bank and you can see and eat in the vault. The coffee was very strong! Beware. The service is some of the best you will see. Wonderful place to eat! It's an old bank and the inside is really neat with seating in the old vault. We went for breakfast and started out with a Bloody Mary and a mimosa. Their menu has completely changed and they no longer have any vegan options. We were told they had "unseasoned tofu" they could fix us with veggies, but nothing on the menu is vegan or can be veganized. They need to take "vegan options" down from their page both here and on Google. Our server, Jen, was amazing! Super knowledgeable, kind, and fast. We had a 30 minute wait before we could be seated, so we just walked around a little. My table shared two biscuits and berries, which was so good! I got the Chicken Cheesesteak with a side salad. The dressing on the salad was a wonderful vinaigrette. Made a quick stop in Fredericksburg on the way to Richmond and decided to eat at the Mercantile. Took a seat at the bar where Jennifer was very accommodating and friendly. We ordered the steak and cheddar tacos and the fried chicken sandwich. Both were awesome. After walking Main Street in the rain we came back. Hubby got the steak tacos. I got the sunrise charcuterie. Kid got French toast. So so good! Good portion sizes on the tacos. My platter was delicious. Tiny biscuits with local jam. Virginia ham and pimento cheese. A scrambled egg and fruit. Yum!! The kid devoured the French toast and that's not his most favorite breakfast dish. Mercantile recently merged with Foode, since they have the same owners and covid-19 made business tougher. Mercantile is now "located within" Foode, really they've just become one restaurant. I ordered the Fredericksburger and my gf ordered the chicken sandwich (basically a chicken Parmesan to go) The food was mediocre, super soggy fries, burger was decent but lacking, needed tomato lettuce and preferably thick sliced bacon on top instead of just "bacon aioli". Service was fine, restaurant was clean, we were close to a table that was extremely loud and had the most boring work stories about their laptops and trying to remember what a VPN is called, and what it is. Plenty of better options in the area for portion size, taste, and options such as Orofino and Sedona Taphouse. read more

We visited this place several times while my husband was working on the east coast for a few months. We've come here late mornings on a weekend. Saturday morning seemed to have less of a wait than going on a Sunday. If you can wait until after 12 noon, the crowd seems to thin out. The hostess will take your number and text you when a table is available. We've walked down to Jabberwocky, a kid's book and toy store to pass the time. The French toast is great but it's a bread pudding texture so just keep that in mind when you order. I highly recommend the Peruvian style chicken which is grilled chicken with lovely seasoning atop fluffy yellow rice with cilantro based sauce, fried egg and a little dollop of red sauce. I've ordered this twice and it is amazingly delicious. Along with one of their pour over coffee, it makes for one of my favorite meals. Just a side note that their pour over coffee is $6, probably the most expensive pour over coffee I've had but definitely delicious and gives me my caffeine boost for the day. It also has a kid friendly menu with French toast, one egg or grilled cheese. My daughter has ordered the french toast which comes with fresh fruit. My husband loves this restaurant as well and has ordered the breakfast tacos and steak salad. We've tried some of the other menu items and all have been wonderful. Staff are friendly and will give you their honest opinion about the menu items. Came here for brunch with my family. We were just in Fredericksburg for the day and picked this place because of online reviews. We were seated in a private room in the back which was nice for holding conversation over our meal. I ordered some sort of hash with a curry tahini sauce. It tasted more like a creamy Sriracha sauce but was delicious nontheless. I ordered my egg over easy and it was perfect. Others ordered the breakfast burger and asked for it over kale instead of on a bun and really enjoyed that as well. Service was friendly and fast. Highly recommend this place.
