We were in town twice for a tennis match at University of Mary Washington. After coming the first time we liked it so much we came again a week later. Each time we started with Harry's Crab Dip which was a real crowd pleaser, everyone throughly enjoyed it. Both times I had the Blackened Shrimp Tacos which were not too spicy just enough kick to give it flavor and the slaw which accompanied it was very flavorful. We often dine in downtown Fredericksburg and have passed by Harry's Downtown many times. After meeting a manager a separate night, and after hearing good things about their burgers, we finally stopped in for Sunday lunch with the family. Service: The first impression was a little mixed. The hostess wasn't very welcoming when we asked about a booth for our family of five (two adults and three younger kids) and didn't seem open to exploring the option. Thankfully, our server, DeQuandre (Deq?), completely turned that around. He was friendly, attentive, and offered great recommendations. We appreciated his visits as he was energetic and very hospitable, highly recommend asking for him when you visit. Food: We started with the buffalo dip. It comes with chips, but Deq was awesome and add some pita, which was a great call. The pita was slightly crisped (almost lightly fried) but still soft inside and paired perfectly with the dip, which had great flavor and good chunks of chicken. For burgers, we ordered the Spicy Wrangler (March 2026 Burger of the Month) and the Whiskey Burger. The Wrangler had a lot going on but the flavors worked well together. The Whiskey Burger was delicious, the sauce was a bit sweeter than I usually prefer, but the bacon was excellent. Only critique would be the burgers were slightly underdone even for medium, but still enjoyable. The onion rings were a standout, though the breading-to-onion ratio leaned a little heavy. The fries were decent but nothing particularly great about them. Atmosphere: Casual and open, but fairly loud. Even though it wasn't very busy for a Sunday lunch, the music and bar noise made it a little difficult at times to hear others at our table. I wouldn't consider this a date night type atmosphere, more casual open dining. Drinks: Solid beer selection with enough variety for most tastes, plus a small cocktail menu and a selection of wines. Overall: Harry's Downtown is a solid spot for a casual lunch or dinner. If you're in the mood for a good burger, or consider yourself a bit of a burger enthusiast, it's definitely worth checking out. This visit was positive enough to plan another visit to explore other delicious sounding menu items. We'll definitely be requesting Deq when we return! Thank you! read more

First time in Downtown Fredericksburg and wanted to try out Harry's after hearing good things about this restaurant. On a Saturday evening; this place was lively. Crowded but not overly. We didn't have to wait long for a table. The place is decorated with dog pictures... you can't help but swoon at each and every one. I am happy to learn Harry's Downtown donates a portion of their sales to the local animal shelter. Onto the food review portion! I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi entree, and my friend had the bourbon burger. My dish was pretty underwhelming tbh. The fish was very bland and slightly too overcooked for my liking. We went here on a Friday night to enjoy the good weather and sit on their patio. I will say it's a nice spot to have a chill dinner outdoors. The crab dip is good. If you don't like old bay you'll hate it but otherwise it's pretty tasty. The kids Mac and cheese is just easy Mac so it's fine . The southern burger was cooked unevenly but other than that I really enjoyed it. The salmon is not worth the money. By far the most pitiful slice of fish for 30 dollars. The side were fine, not super well seasoned but overall not bad. Our waiter was awesome and super informed on the menu which was nice because the drinks were all recipes I wasn't familiar with. We tried a couple lychee drinks and one other whiskey based drinker and determined their cocktails aren't the move but the beer on tap ...perfect. After another restaurant across the street had a wait time of 45 minutes (at 5:30pm), we gave Harry's a try. The food and ambiance at Harry's has never disappointed, so why not? We were immediately seated and our waitress came by a few minutes after. After asking for a drink menu, she mentioned they were out of a few beers because they're in the process of switching to new ones with spring here. Drinks took a little long to come out but not a big deal. For an appetizer we had the Reuben Egg Rolls (2 cut in half to make 4 pieces), which were served with a side of thousand island. They were excellent and the kitchen didn't skimp on the corned beef. Harry's burgers have never disappointed, so for my main I decided to order the Apple Bacon Bleu Burger. Rather than having it on a bun I asked to have it served over a salad (it's an option they offer for a $4 up charge). The salad was very good and filling. This is the way to go if you want a burger but want to keep it healthy (this option does not come with a side of fries; it's just the burger salad). My husband had the Charleston Chicken sandwich, which was a massive fried chicken breast. While it looked great, he said it was underwhelming because the chicken was too big and tough. Had the chicken breast been smaller, it likely would've been juicy. His sandwich came with a side and he opted for coleslaw, which was very good (just the perfect amount of sweet). Overall, if nearby restaurant have a long wait, give Harry's a try. Staff is friendly, there's outdoor seating and food is always good. read more

The waiters here are really good and the crab dip and shrimp pasta are delicious. I love coming here during the summer and sitting outside and being in the heart of downtown. People like to bring the dogs here and they have bowls for them to drink water. read more

A cute location on the stretch of Williams Street in Fredericksburg, Harry's Downtown was a very comfortable lunch spot. We came with a slightly larger group and were seated almost immediately which made it much easier to get right into our real priority, eating! The onion rings are large, cooked very well, and breaded with extra flavor baked in. The chicken tostado salad was fantastic, the tostado adding both flavor and texture to a well dressing-ed plate. And the burger of the week was very creative! A pickle aioli topped burger with pickle chips and fried pickles, the flavor was surprisingly more like a normal burger than expected. Actually not a bad place but they definitely have some areas they can improve on. I had the shrimp tacos. They were actually pretty good. But I ordered the garlic butter broccoli as a side which is a $5 charge because it's considered a premium side. Now considering broccoli isn't considered premium anywhere in the world, this has to be some epic broccoli. Well it wasn't and the portion was disappointing too considering the price point. You know how much broccoli I can get for $5. Anyway, didn't taste much like garlic butter. Also my kid had the flatbread with fruit. Looked like canned fruit. The chicken focaccia meal my wife had was actually spot on. Service was pretty decent and the dog themed thing I just didn't get. Well it wasn't bad just not something I would try again personally. My wife and I visited Harry's Downtown for the first time and had a great experience. We were seated outside, and Kate, our server, was there right away. She was incredibly helpful, especially with my beer questions, and made us feel welcome from the start. The food was very good, and one thing that really stood out was the speed of service. From the moment we ordered drinks or food from Kate, everything arrived at our table incredibly fast. It was around 5:00 pm and not very busy, but the service was still impressively quick. We started with the onion rings and then had the shrimp appetizer as a second starter. Both were excellent. The shrimp were large and delicious. I would definitely recommend both items. read more

The food is amazing. The drinks are really good too. Usually go on Friday nights for their happy hour. The crowd is cheerful and upbeat, as it's a Friday night. A game will often be on in the bar area. I really enjoyed the scallops and risotto. read more

Burger was legit. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars because I don't hand them out all Willy-nilly. But if you like burgers definitely check them out. Not sure about the other items. They also had a hazy IPA that was outstanding, and their lineup of nonalcoholic beers was also pretty comprehensive. All in all, a fun space, with lots of beers on top, and salad food that makes it an easy Recommendation! I got the tostada salad which was good. The tostada was crispy and the toppings made it like you weren't even eating a salad! I got it without ranch, just the cilantro creamy sauce, and that was plenty of dressing. I also tried the dill burger which is the special this month. The dill potato chips and pickle chip toppings were a fun addition and the patty was well cooked. I would probably try a different burger since there are so many to choose from on the menu--you won't get bored! The onion rings were different from any other onion ring I've tried; the batter was extra thick but still craggly and crispy. I would suggest getting the side instead of the appitizer because the only difference is some chipotle ranch and a $4 price difference. The fries were also great, crispy and shoe string cut just like McDonalds. Harry's is a good American bar food restaurant to hang out with friends and there's Plenty of room to watch the game. It is a convenient location in Fredericksburg, there's a parking garage around the corner and they validate parking. We were then sent the wrong beers in which the waitress blamed the bartender on being new and not knowing which beers were on the "paper". We stopped in for a late lunch and did enter through the wrong door as it was a bit confusing on where to enter. Looks like they have parking they validate in a garage which is nice. The booth seats are super tight and there was no where to hang coats which made the booths even tighter. A larger family would definitely have time as a group of 4 to fit in a booth. Our waitress was nice but forgetful and our booth has no silverware or extra plates. When we asked for silverware, it did not come out and then we got our entrees and none of us had napkins or silverware to eat any of it. We had to ask a second time then we finally got some. It seems like weird practice to have to ask twice for cutlery. Food wise- the crab dip was great with the pita chips and we liked that we could get more pita chips for free. Two of us had the buffalo style salad with chicken (fried)- good flavor but some of the chicken pieces were just crispy chicken and had no real chicken in it. The burger my mom had was a hit and so were the fish tacos. They were out of corona and the house Chardonnay was decent. Prices were really fair so I'd just hope the service picks up. read more

I love your place and I hate giving you this bad rating. But every time I come there, I get the same thing a buffalo chicken salad and every time I ask them to make the chicken extra crispy just leave it in the fryer for another 2 to 3 minutes and every single time I get the chicken it's soggy and gross so I eat the salad and don't eat the chicken. It's not that hard to go above and beyond for a customer especially someone who's asking to have their chicken fried a little bit longer but in the handful or more times that I've been there. It just never happens. I don't know if it's the server who's not telling the kitchen staff or the kitchen staff just doesn't care. It's just depressing because I do like your place and I do like your food but all I'm asking is to have the chicken not be soggy and gross. read more

6 friends had planned a 'reunion' dinner during Winter Restaurant Week. We made a reservation for 7pm. While waiting for the 6th person to arrive we ordered drinks and an appetizer. However, at 7:31, our server came over to inform us the kitchen was closing at 7:30 and we needed to get our dinner orders in. The appetizer too a LONG time to arrive as did our dinners. Although the service was good and the server was amazing in the circumstances, he then came around about 8:45 to tell us they would be closing at 9. Although he offered dessert, with the kitchen being closed, we could not get some of the offerings. Very disappointing evening. read more
