We decided to go out for an impromptu date night on Saturday and we landed at Strangeways FXBG. They had a live band on the inside that you could easily hear from the outside seating area. Smashed Life Food Truck was there serving delicious burgers that satisfied our hunger. I loved the smash sauce which did have a little kick. Environment was great, staff was friendly, and the beer was delicious. I was even able to walk away with two t-shirts for $15. read more

I give one star for the beer! I like the beer and I have always liked the beer! However, one of the female bartenders there was so fucking rude! My buddy and I are regular customers there and we always gave 20% tips and guess what, from now on, Strangeways will never see our money again! No wonder they closed their business in Williamsburg! Hope they close the business soon in Fredericksburg soon with such rude bartender! I want to go there first next time and say "Here's $70 that I am going to spend at Maltese because .... is a bitch." I've been here quite a few times and there is always an amazing group of people working together! The "strange" flavors of beer, seltzer and cider are always tempting to try and there's bound to be something everyone will enjoy. Indoor and outdoor stages, indoor and outdoor bars. I stopped in with my friend on a Friday afternoon. She and I were looking to start our Friday trying this spot for the first time. There was hardly anyone there and the bartender suggested we try flights. My friend ordered a light flight and I ordered a dark flight. The dark flight was very dark and I only drank about half of it before we ordered another flight to try more options. The lucky charms was very fun and unique and definitely my favorite. The Barbie had glitter and was fun to try as well. read more

Love love love this place! I wanted to try different beers for there 4 oz sweet taps and I was NOT disappointed. Lucky Charms and Berry Cobbler were good AF! They had a band going and lights were down low and it was a really good night. Staff was friendly. The place was open and has plenty of seats! read more

This place is so cute! We went to visit our friends and their kid and we went to Strangeway Brewing company off 95. From the outside it looks like a huge warehouse with parking not really defined, very country park where ever. There is an industrial door and you walk into this huge warehouse that is open concept and just really neat! There are mix and match types of tables and chairs, retail area's, so many beers to choose from, wines, ciders, a food option list, the beer brewing stations, private rental rooms and the bathrooms were clean and up-to-date. We did a sampler wheel where they give you expo marker and a circle and you write the beet names and pay a certain price per sample glass. They give it to you on a circle tray and it's very fun to split with your friends. The kid had a lot of fun, and space, to explore and walk around. When it is warmer it would be cool to come back and let them play outside since there is a lot of space around the wearhouse, could bring a ball or dog or playpen. I thought they had a lot of options, the chicken tender we had were faily priced and good amount. The people were super friendly inside. We just had a really great time. read more

Came here on a whim in a nice Fall afternoon. They have an outdoor bar, lots of picnic tables outside, a few low tables with Adirondack chairs under a tent, and a little amphitheater/stage area. The brewery has lots of really interesting beers, like Lucky Charms and a Snuckers Jelly beers (they're on the sweet side). Strangeways also serves food in-house but it's very limited (cheese and pepperoni pizza, pretzel, chicken tenders), so they usually have a guest food truck on site. Inside the brewery is pretty big. Lots of tables to accommodate small and large parties. This is a dog-friendly brewery and has a good size parking lot. Great microbrew to check out. read more

Strangeways is a large brewery located in an industrial park. There is lots of seating indoors and out. They have a stage so I assume they have music sometimes. Service was good. We had the Gnar Shedder New England IPA which we both enjoyed. Prices are high though ... $8.50 for a 13 oz. We also bought a large can which was $15. There was a food truck there when we visited offering various sorts of biscuits. We would most likely return because we did like the beer despite the price. read more

A pleasant Memorial Day afternoon - picnic tables, umbrellas, tents, and an outdoor bar. The setting is very nice for spring and summer outside after traveling from Richmond. You can get a flight of up to 10 beers inside, and they have Berliner Weisse, IPAs (just 3), stouts, lagers, sours, wild ales, and even some very creative beers like Lucky Charm (surprisingly good ). With few exceptions, the beer was middle of the road. Nothing spectacular except the aforementioned Lucky Charm and The Salma Hayek (a hot Mexican style stout). The IPAs were mostly West Coast, and the double IPA was pretty drinkable (don't have too many with that ABV). It was pleasant and a good stop off the beaten path, but I probably will not go out of my way off I-95 next time. read more

Second visit here and not disappointed. Neat place in an industrial area with a great selection on tap. Food is good and there is plenty of seating inside and outside. I like that they have an outdoor bar as well. It makes service a little quicker especially when people are inside trying to figure out what they want. Great space. Mediocre beer. Lousy service. I stopped after a six hour drive on Sunday to get a bite to eat and stretch mine and my dogs' legs. The outdoor seating is spacious and not just "picnic tables in parking lot" as many places are. The beer was disappointing. I tasted an IPA and ordered a lager. Both had a bitterness that tasted of tannins as if spent grains had been left in the wort. There wasn't much hop flavor, so perhaps finishing hops are simply put it too early. At any rate, average at best, and there are a lot of breweries in NoVA better than average. Prices were the highest at any brewery I've seen -- over $10 for an Imperial Pint. Then we get to the service. I went inside and left my dog in the car to order and paid up front (only planning on one beer.) The bartender said "I'll bring out your food to you." (I ordered a plate of fries.) I replied, "Great, I'll be right outside." and left a 25% tip. It wasn't busy and I appreciate a bartender taking the time to walk food out to a table. Forty-five minutes later, no fries. No one at the bar when I dropped my empty glass off. So basically I paid $20 for a mediocre beer. I won't be back. Too many breweries in the area that pay attention and care that you come in to their establishment. read more

Staff always friendly, helpful and offers small tastes before committing to a Tall beverage.. (as experienced beer aficionados, always good business and our appreciation always return on tab-out.!) Plenty of comfortable seating, in/outdoors, bring your table games or borrow theirs, we had about 6 folks join us playing the "racing ponies" dice game one evening out! Only comment, not due to Strangeways, the food trucks servicing has always seemed,,average... Outside food allowed! Really nice brewery in the Fburg area. Great inside seating area, tons of room outside when weather is nice. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are standard. Food trucks often, you can bring food, and they also sell a few items. The hot pretzel is good, big German style just make sure they heat it up all the way The fries are tight, they put the pretzel salt on them which really kicks it up a notch. Big fan of the shimmer and shake blueberry lemon hard seltzer. Currently my favorite hard seltzer. Tastes great on tap, somehow it tastes even better canned but I still prefer drinking there. The seltzer doesn't have the fake fruit flavors of the store bought stuff. It feels like it was brewed like a beer but doesn't annoy my allergies like beer can. They also have a watermelon, you might like it didn't do it for me. I love beer but beer doesn't always love me, however they have some great flavors and always making new stuff. My wife loves their sour, and I usually have to finish it. Not a sour fan, but it's smooth with a nice pucker finish. Great spot, great people, great flavors. read more

My dad and I went here in December -- my Christmas present for him was treating him to a 10 beer flight, snacks, and a night of games to get him his first stamp on his FBT passport. We went on a Monday night, so the place was pretty empty, and the bartender was friendly enough. The warehouse setting was cool -- it was cool to sit in a booth beside the brewery equipment. There was a cool retail shop and a stage, and I'm sure it's fun when there's a live band. The extensive draft menu -- 36+! -- made selecting and tasting the beers really fun, and the selection easily satisfied both our tastes. You get a dry erase board card to write your selections on, which is a really fun way of picking your selection and knowing which is which -- I thought it was a fun touch. And we really liked the snack flight -- I don't know how the hot food is, but a couple handfuls of three kinds of bar mix was perfect for us. Sitting in the booth chatting and tasting ended up being a all we needed. That said, I was a bit disappointed by how exaggerated the website description of the place was. I carefully picked this brewery over others on the trail for us to go to while I was in town visiting because of all the fun things to do. "The main tasting room is fully temperature-conditioned and showcases a 100-foot, exquisitely peculiar bar, laden with thousands of curious oddities and breweriana pieces. From here you can gaze upon the funky decor, as well as view the brewing equipment and processes." The decor doesn't provide that much to look at, but we realized the "oddities" were built into the bar top, so we didn't see them from our booth. The private event spaces looked really nice. "A sizable arcade and free board game area provides fun and entertainment for all ages, and an art gallery and lounge showcases the work of local artisans." I don't think one part of this sentence is true. If sizable arcade means a pinball machine, a claw machine, darts, then sure. We wandered the whole inside of the place and I have no idea where an "art gallery" would even be. It's a big open room. Granted, it was December on a Monday so nothing was happening on the outdoor patio, but maybe that's the spot to be with food trucks and cornhole -- if they actually have it. "(Beer flights are a-la-cart, and come standard with a locally sourced treat)." We got no such "treat" -- just the snacks we bought. "3 Big Screen TV's" There were 2 over the bar. Why would you even exaggerate that? "Arcade, Board Games" Maybe you have to ask the bartender for board games kept behind the bar, but I didn't see any of these anywhere either. They have separate descriptions of each of their different locations, so I'm not sure why they'd include things in their FXBG location that weren't true. Again, the beers were tasty, and it was fun just to hang out -- I just didn't let myself be frustrated that the rest didn't match up. read more

Fell in love in the RVA location which is a timeless gem and the F-Burg location is a great way to compliment the OG RVA. Beer selection on top of things when looking at the craft spectrum. Stopped in to kill sometime looking at wedding venues. Definitely an eclectic interesting place. Merchandise everywhere! They have a snack bar and you can get flights- the wasabi mix is legit! Tried their current double IPA and howler IPA. Both were extremely tasty. Would certainly come back and drink those if I could or in MD if I could find it. Was midday after they opened and only had one person behind the counter serving. She neglected the 8 people there as she was cleaning, making boxes and stacking 6 packs, etc. Can't imagine what it's like when busy though. read more

My friend told me about this brewery and was very anxious to take me to try the beers there. There were at least 30 beers on tap there! I had never seen so many like that before. You are able to mix and match flights to your liking, so I got a flight of 9. 10 was the max for a tray. If you don't get their $10 house flight, the personalized flights are $3-4 per beer. Overall, there were lots of sour/tart beers, no stouts available at that time and a few of their classics. The Imperial Razzle dazzle was the Best beer there. And their lucky charms came in a close 2nd. The place was pretty empty when we got there, but we were there when it first opened, so it was expected. They had dart boards we played on, and there was plenty of in and outdoor seating. I enjoyed my time there. The bartender was very very knowledgeable and helped me out with my selection. read more

This is my favorite brewery in Fredericksburg. With more than 30 beers, they have one for you, no matter your taste. The staff is friendly, if not always super-knowledgeable about the ever-changing beer rotation. Snacks are always available, and they usually have a food truck onsite. The property is a good size and should lend itself well to special events when the weather is warm, should they choose to take advantage of it. read more

Went to the one in Fredericksburg on the way home from a conference and was impressed. I did not count but probably had close to 45 beers on tap that were easily categorized (Light, Sours, Sweet, Hoppy, Dark and Funky). The beers were well made, I did not try any IPA's, however did get a mix of lights, gose's and dark. I did not love every beer, however, you could tell they were still high quality. I do not rate breweries based upon their food offering (pizza was pretty bad) but they do have food on premise regardless if a food truck is present. The facility itself is large and they have a stage presumably for music at night. Plenty of seating, indoor and outdoors, was available. For sure will be back with the family. read more

I visited the fxburg location while on a work trip. I didn't know the location recently opened recently, I believe around summer time. I've always been a very big fan of the Richmond location. I love "different" beers and Strangeways always deliver when I want to feel adventurous with my tastebud. Curiosities, my favorite. If you don't know what I meant, I suggest heading over to their website. The decor is very eclectic and spacious. They had a variety of beers that mirrors the original location and options that were exclusive to the Fxburg location. The employees that I spoke with seemed knowledgeable, they were all proactive. After my shift, I went for a small pour of Lucky Charms. Take a sip and the first initial taste and thoughts are something nutty and smooth. Once you swallow and get the aftertaste, that's the best part. The taste literally lingers in my mouth of lucky charms marshmallows. Overall, it was a great visit. If I ever find my way back out there, I will be sure to visit again. read more
