Cool environment, fun to see all the firefighter themed decorations. Service was good, friendly beertender, and a variety of good beers. Great for groups or sidling up to the bar solo. One of my go-tos when I'm in town for work. read more

Came on a Friday night around 8pm. There was a nice buzz but not overly packed. The bartender was incredibly helpful and patient as we made our decision on a flight of beers to try. The ambience is great with 50 cent pinball machines to play and game consoles upstairs. We made ourselves comfy on the couches upstairs to do some future trip planning. Was just what we wanted. We found the beers ok yet enjoyable and the flight pours were larger than expected. Will definitely come back when back in town. There was plenty of parking around! read more

First time here . Was great . Plenty of options for drinking. And the vibe was laid back . The place was super clean which is a plus in my book . read more

Use to be a great place to hang out. Loved the firefighter theme especially from what I understand it was firefighters who had started the business. Now under new management they are taking down anothing that has to do with first responders and getting rid of great workers who are the backbone of the community! Terrible management will run that business in the ground. Sad! read more

Great varied selection of beer. The server was very helpful. The taproom was in an industrial building that was nicely decorated. Great place to sit and enjoy a beer. read more

We had a Knights of Columbus meeting here with a nice big table and had food from the food truck while having beers . The service was attentive and entertaining with trivia night in a cool industrial atmosphere. read more

When in the Fredericksburg Virginia area and you're looking for a nice brewery (with pinball machines), definitely visit Maltese Brewing. The brewery is situated in an industrial park located on the east side of town. The brewery may be owned by an active fireman or retiree. There is fire department decor, flags, patches and a small memorial wall in the taproom. It's nice and the beer I had was tasty and refreshing. In the back area there are about a dozen pinball machines. They have Sinbad (1970s Gotlieb, I remember that one), Stranger Things, Guns n Roses, Elvira, Terminator 2, Blackbeard, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avengers. Most of the machines are $0.50 to play, Sinbad is twenty-five cents and GnR is $1.00. There is a change machine on site so, there is no need to run out to the car and look for change in or under the seats. I had a pint of the "343" (American IPA) and the Fireman's Blonde Ale. Both were really good. I got a crowler of the "343" to go. The brewery is dog friendly, they do sell snacks and four packs to go. Seating is available outside and parking is plentiful. Definitely check it out. read more

We drove over an hour to Fredericksburg to check out some breweries. Maltese was our second stop after seeing their beer list choices. We had also tried a few of their beers a few years back at the Frosty BrewThru beer festival and finally made it to the actual brewery. I had the Salted Caramel Rye Porter, and it was outstanding. I ended up purchasing a crowler to take home too. My wife had the Grab and Gose Blackberry Sour, and it was good too. Everyone working here was incredibly friendly and nice when I had questions on the beers. It looks like a lot of locals hang out here based on the number of mug club members in the taproom. I wish I lived closer. I would totally consider a mug club membership! If you are tentative about sitting inside right now, Maltese also has a small socially distanced outside seating area. We will definitely be back when we are in the Fredericksburg area and highly recommend this brewery to anyone who would like to visit. read more

This place is an example of what can happen when you approve a crazy idea from your spouse on the assumption he was joking. Literally, that's the story of how two firefighters got into the brewery business. Well, I'm glad their wives had faith in them, because I'm a fan of their beer. Maltese is a smallish place in a non-descript storefront. There isn't much space at the bar, although they have room in the brewing area, and in the future will expand into the studio next door. They often have food trucks, but when they don't you can order delivery (the local vendors all know where they are). Maltese also has a firefighter theme going on, which (as the son and brother of firefighters) I very much appreciated. The beers tend to be less experimental than some other breweries; while they get visitors from distant locations, this seems more like a local hang-out, and the owners know what will please their customer base. But that's not to say their beer can't stand up to anyone else; to the contrary, out of the 15-ish microbrews I've visited in the past year, I think Maltese is one of the better ones. Out of the 6 beers that I tried, I loved 1, liked 3, kinda-sorta liked 1, and only found 1 I clearly didn't like. Their current plan is to keep 4 'flagship' beers on tap, and rotate between an additional 4. Here's what I tried... Vanilla Brown (flagship): The vanilla is more subtle in this blend than other vanilla-tasting beers I've had lately. Not something I'd order a pint of, but good for a tasting. Fireman Blonde (flagship): I didn't like this one, although my friend loved it. Least favorite. Pineapple IPA (flagship): Disclaimer: I'm not an IPA fan. That said, their IPA was better than most. At least this one I could drink if you gave it to me. In fact Joe DID give it to me as a freebie, specifically because I told him I don't typically like IPAs and he wanted my opinion...and free beer always tastes better. Orange Cranberry Saison: My love affair with Saisons continues unabated! Years ago you couldn't get me near a fruity beer, but places like this have made me a believer. Favorite of the day. Belgian Triple: Liked-to-loved it, tied as my second favorite. Joe's Stout: Named after one of the owners (who incidentally was my server), this Stout was unusually sweet, but not in a bad way. Tied with the Triple as second favorite. read more

For a local brewery the Service and ambiance is very nice. It's worth a visit. Not more than 20 minutes out of your way type of visit. The beers are okay, pinball is cool. read more

The beer is great, love the atmosphere but way too many people in a small place. It was packed, a group of 15 or more took over a big table and drove us and the guy sitting at the table out. Too many people in a pandemic. No one sanitizing tables or bar areas. Won't go back here despite the good beer. read more

Very tasty craft beers. Definitely recommend trying a flight to get a broad sample. Beertender was outgoing and helpful.

Good local beer with a rotating selection. They are also the home of the hottest beer in the world if you are up to the challenge. read more

Maltese, we discovered while bypassing heavy traffic on I-95 south of Fredericksburg, VA. It is tucked into a small strip center south of Fredericksburg. It has been open for about 4 years. The theme of the brewery is all about firefighters. The railing around the outside patio is made from old fire hoses. Inside is decorated on various firefighting gear and accessories. The beer selection is good with about 14 selections. The Pineapple IPA was my favorite. There was a selection of IPAs, Stouts, Lagers, and Ales; all were very good. They also brew a very good non-alcoholic root beer. The bartender was prompt and very friendly. The was a bar and small seating area up front with a larger area in the back with sofas, stuffed chairs, and multiple classic pinball machines! It is dog friendly. Three dogs, large and small, were enjoying the brewery too. There was no food but they did have pretzels and chip for munchies read more

Maltese is a brewery that is not only confident in who they are as a business, but it's a local favorite. You definitely get that small town brewery vibe from the moment you walk in. We went on a busy night after rock climbing, so it was pretty crowded. We didn't make it to the back near the pinball machines, but it seemed like a fun space. It was trivia night, so everyone l was grabbing their beers. The staff all seemed a little frazzled by the crowd, but we're friendly in trying to help us. We had to correct them once when they gave us the wrong pour, but they quickly fixed it and we weren't charged wrong for anything so there's nothing to complain about. I was happy they were so willing to fix the issue. They let us try the beers we wanted before getting them. I went with the sour that was on tap. It was really nice! A smooth, but bitter beer that went down easily. I loved the wide selection of beers. I feel like most breweries go heavy on IPAs, but I am not a fan of them so it's always good to have other options to enjoy. Maltese feels like a family-owned business that welcomes you as family as soon as you enter the establishment. There were people with their pets there, lots of laughs, and good vibes all around. My family frequents this brewery, so I'm sure I'll be back again. read more

I walked in to get a couple beers to go and they were very very friendly that's why I gave them two stars. But OMG $24 for a four pack of IPA? Unbelievable and dad bod beer was pretty much undrinkable. The pinball tables were a nice attraction though. read more

One of the better microbrewery places I've visited in recent memory. All the beers were tasty and diverse. They offered a wide range of styles from a pineapple IPA (Pipa), a coconut pipa that was surprisingly good, a few versions of brown ale, saison, etc. they are introducing an oatmeal stout soon and I am looking forward to that. They don't have food here but you get a bag of pretzels with a pint or flight. They often have food trucks parked outside so you won't starve if you absolutely must dilute your beer with food. I pass this place every couple weeks and now that I know how good they are, I'll certainly be back again. read more

Maltese Brewing - Breweries Near Me - Fredericksburg, Virginia

My husband and I had a friend from our hometown visiting when we came here. He also happens to be a firefighter, and is relatively new to the profession. So he's very animated and excited to talk about it too. Coming to this brewery was a perfect choice. My husband and our friend got what I believe is called "The Brigadoon"? It was a sampler of all the beers that they had on tap. They seemed to enjoy the beers and the complimentary pretzels/chips that came with it. The two men working that day were fire fighters and made polite and interesting conversation. I'd say my friend was in Fire Fighter heaven. If that's even a thing. lol. I'm just referring to his expressions and eagerness about being here. We learned all about the brewery's history and how it came to be. Where the ideas and inspirations came for the decor and the future plans that the owners hope to make Maltese Brewing into. Of course "shop talk" happened, and I politely tuned out. I didn't have much to contribute about helmet variations or practices in firehouses, so I enjoyed the atmosphere. We will go back again to Maltese Brewing. It has good beer, and even a patio area. Added that it's near our favorite dog park and we have a Dalmatian, they said we could come back anytime. read more

This is a great place! Children are welcomed. It's nice and clean and the beer is cold!! Service is excellent!

Great brewery! The staff is amazing and one of the only ones I have been in where they actually seem to care and get to know their customers.
