Discovered this restaurant on Instagram and decided to give it a try. The place is very cozy with a good amount of seating. The staff is very welcoming and we were sat down pretty quickly. We ordered the Sammie Biscuit and Loaded Tots with eggs. The loaded tots serves as a great shareable meal. The Sammie biscuit was pretty large! I think it would have even better with a sauce. Seriously...this place is worth the drive. The staff was incredibly friendly and even let us keep adding to our to-go order while they were closing. Now let's talk food. I'm not sure how anyone managed to turn loaded tots into something gourmet-level, but they absolutely nailed it. Perfectly crisp, perfectly sized, and loaded with just the right amount of deliciousness. We paired them with biscuits, eggs, and bacon--and even the bacon was cooked to that perfect crispy texture. I can't rave enough about this place. While it's out there location-wise, the trip is very much worth it. During my latest visit, I ordered the Hot Mess, which is pastrami, sausage gravy, and two eggs any way you want them done. I'll confess that I'm not a biscuits and gravy enthusiast, but this gravy will convert non-believers. It's just that good. There's so much flavor in the gravy that to have it smothered over a freshly-made biscuit is perfection. Service at Biscuit Batch has always been great. They're always busy yet servers check in. When I visited a few weeks ago, Ashley was our server and she is super sweet and ready to make recommendations. The ambiance at Biscuit Batch is always lively. They don't take reservations, so plan ahead especially if you have a large party. The other thing I really like about Biscuit Batch is that they always have a space where there's another small business/entrepreneur vendor present selling their product. This place is so cute and full of potential! You can tell it's still fairly new and are working out the kinks - for example, they need an espresso machine. They only offer cold brew and drip coffee, and I would have loved to ordered a latte instead, but alas. As far as the food, it's great. My mom got the classic sausage gravy and biscuits and that gravy is DIVINE. I ordered the chicken pot pie. I honestly didn't love it, but I think that's because I was expecting a more classic pot pie flavor, whereas this one has a lot of Cajun spice in it. So I think that was just a personal preference thing. But the interior is so cute and the staff so friendly. This spot is super adorable! It's pretty small, but that is fine, only thing that is unfortunate is that if there's a wait, there's nowhere to wait indoors! The menu is not too big, it's got just enough options to choose from. I ordered the breakfast tots, which are tater tots smothered in sausage gravy with two eggs, your preferred way- and a sprinkle of green onions. I got the sausage gravy on the side, just because I wasn't sure if I would love it. BUT I DID! Everything i ate was so delicious! I wish I had a bottomless pit of a stomach! I couldn't eat everything, so I stopped at the halfway point, and packaged the leftovers for another day. The interior was adorable I loved the farmhouse chic decor. They even had a section with items you can purchase; candles, books, journals, etc-- all adorable, as well! The only complaint I have is the coffee. It was TERRIBLE! There was barely any flavor, it was weak and i wish I didn't waste the calories of bothering to add cream and sugar. All in all, i had a really good meal and I'm pleased with it! We ate at Biscuit Batch for brunch and had to wait around 40 minutes for a table (4 people) they don't take reservations it's first come first serve. That said absolutely positively worth the wait. I ordered the Nash which is a biscuit with Nashville Hot Chicken, white sausage gravy, and two eggs. Freaking fantastic. My friend ordered the Hot Mess which is biscuits pastrami, gravy and some other things like tots. They do have more normal plates that don't have biscuits. The restaurant is a little out of the way but worth the drive and the time. Don't let the thought of distance or perhaps a bit of a wait deter you from this amazing delightful restaurant. read more

I finally tried this restaurant for the first time, and unfortunately, I was not impressed. It took nearly 50 minutes to receive a very simple breakfast order: two eggs, one strip of bacon, one sausage, and a biscuit. For such a basic meal, the wait seemed excessive. As I sat there waiting, I kept thinking that the food must be amazing if it was taking this long. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The breakfast was decent, but nothing special--about a 3 out of 5 stars. My wife and I were excited to try this place because we had heard good things about it. We were disappointed with our own experience and will never go back. The restaurant was not that busy. We were seated immediately, and our waitress took our order right away. When the waitress brought our drinks out, she told us that it would not be long before our food was out. So far, so good--but then the disappointment started. It took over half an hour for our food to get to us. During that time, our waitress never checked on our drinks. Thankfully, the young man clearing the tables did and cheerfully gave me a refill. When the food finally did come out, my biscuit tasted like a day old biscuit that had been slightly warmed. I could not have been more disappointed. Whatever biscuits are your main attraction, you have got to get them right. I would rather have had a frozen biscuit that I warmed up at home. They are flakier and less hard than the biscuit that I had at the Biscuit Batch. My eggs and sausage were good--nothing spectacular. The best part about my meal was actually the gravy that I added as a side. I had the Classic breakfast. My wife had the chicken and biscuit. Her biscuit was similar to mine, and her chicken was lukewarm and rubbery. She did not even finish it. She said that the dressing on her salad was good. On the way home, she apologized to me for pushing to go try this place. Whenever our food finally did come, we asked our waitress right away what took so long. She told us that there were some to-go orders. My wife told her that we were going to leave a bad review. I do not know if the waitress conveyed our clear disappointment with the owner, so it may be that the owner did not know that she had two disappointed customers who were still there eating. As a sidenote, my wife and I have both been in management. I do not know how the owner has trained her staff, but they need to be trained to immediately let her know about any dissatisfied customers as soon as they are aware of it. As we were leaving, the young woman at the front said nothing to us. She kept her head down, looking at her phone. I am close to 60 years old, and I have eaten out for thousands of meals during my life. This was one of the more memorable meals--but not for the right reason. I took my wife out for brunch and was able to finally make a visit. It is located at Merchants Square/Spotsylvania Courthouse in the same area as Itavie, Cider Lab and El Grand Patron. As you walked in, the restaurant is clean, cozy and modern. The vibe is energetic especially from the welcoming smiles of the woman behind the entrance counter. They have a couch as waiting area that sits up to 4 but most don't mind standing outside (weather permits). We ordered 4 items: 1) The Nash 2) Shrimp and Grits 3) BLT 4) Southern Cali Benedict. As the shrimp and grits arrive to the table, my mouth was already salivating .. lol. When that first bite hit my palate, this is an OMG level good that was flooded with that deliciousness. I wasn't able to stop until it was completely gone. My wife order the Nash which was a hot fried chicken served with gravy, homemade biscuit, sweet and spicy pickles and your choice of a side so she got a side salad. The chicken itself was tender, a little salty but balance well with the gravy. The side salad that was served on the plate was tasty too. The next dish was the southern Cali Benedict, a layer of biscuit, tomato, portabella mushroom, hollandaise, sauté kale and a poached egg. The combination was unique but the kale overpowered the dish, it was a little bland, there was only a spoonful of the hollandaise sauce but the poached egg was cooked perfectly. It was tasty though. The last dish was the BLT with an option to add eggs but I chose not to. It was a simple dish with homemade biscuit, smoked bacon, mixed greens and tomato. Since my wife didn't want her pickles, when I took that second bite of my sandwich, follow it with those sweet pickles, it enhance the flavors in my mouth. Overall it is a great place to bring your family, friends or just dining alone. They have a bar with seats in front, some decorations on the wall and our server Mollie P provided impeccable service. She was friendly, genuine, humorous and attentive. All staff members were friendly and knowledgeable. They are only open Thursdays-Sundays. I was excited to try this place but ended up very disappointed. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and the sausage gravy and biscuit(biscuits and gravy). Price was $32!!!!!!!! The shrimp and grits was horrible. The grits weren't cooked all the way and had the consistency of soup. There was a generous amount of good size shrimp but the were drowning in an oily soupy mess of so called grits. The sausage gravy was very meaty and VERY PEPPERY! I ate it but it was not very good. The biscuits were gummy but you could see the layers and know the put some effort into them. Overall...would not recommend or return. Everytime me and my husband come is a treat. Although it is busy, there's never too long of a wait time. The seating area feels like home and I do love that the owner herself comes around and is part of the experience. That's how you can see that this place is well cared for. The food is always delicious for your staple breakfast. I get a simple sausage gravy with eggs, and my husband got a Hot Mess-don't let that name fool you because it's 100% delicious. While this one complaint doesn't quite make or break our experience, I do have to admit that I wish the servers were more personable and inviting. There is one woman who I hadn't gotten the pleasure of being served by, but she is always smiling and making the best effort to make the dining experience top notch for her table. This review is for the restaurant that opened very recently where the old gran patron used to be in Merchant Square in Spotsylvania. The transformation from a dingy and beat up Mexican restaurant to a bright and charming diner was simply amazing. The biscuits were INCREDIBLE and oversized with a an uncomplicated yet creative menu that serves many tastes from comfort to classic to vegetarian. I'm sure they will figure out some service kinks as it took a while to be greeted once seated and took forever to get a bloody mary. It was also LOUD and we don't like loud restaurants. I've tried the biscuits from this food truck several times and they are really good. This isn't your KFC make you choke biscuits. This is the real deal. Not only are there biscuits and gravy, there's also a strawberry shortcake type of dish that's also that looks really good. That's my next victim. Today I went and they had these bomb New York style bagels with chive cream cheese that was delicious. They don't usually have them but it was a nice addition to the menu this week. I wanted to give this new spot in Spotsy CH a try specifically because of the much-hyped "perfect recipe" biscuits. Sadly, I was very disappointed: rather than the light, fluffy biscuit that I'd been eagerly anticipating, I got a dense, greasy, totally unsatisfying chunk of yuk that doesn't even come with a side of honey or jam without paying a $2 surcharge (but plenty of butter in case the biscuit isn't already greasy enough for you)! Given the many positive reviews here I'm guessing it's just a matter of preference, and the biscuits probably hold up well under sausage gravy, but I won't be returning to this place. Pros: clean, bright decor; decent (if not stellar) service; while I didn't order them (but wish I had!), the tots delivered to a nearby table looked delicious! Cons: dense, greasy biscuits; bitter coffee, high prices (which is true everywhere these days, but $5 for a single, very disappointing biscuit?!?). On the first visit we ordered biscuits and gravy, and the blueberry pancakes, we asked about the avocado salad and the server said it was a really good salad. We waited about 45 minutes for our food which was understandable considering it was busy but our server was never anywhere to be found to refill our drinks or she was behind the counter playing on her phone. The food came out and the food was warm not hot and the avocado salad was a big lump of avocado on a plate. Not sure why they don't call it a side of avocado. We contributed the warm food and bad server experience to being a busy Sunday so we decided to return this past Friday for my wife's birthday and the experience was even worse. We ordered the buttermilk pancakes and eggs benedict. The restaurant was empty so we hoped our food would come out fast but we were completely wrong. Around 45 minutes later our food came out and my pancakes were warm and the eggs benedict were very cold. Trying to flag down our server, Sara, is very difficult when she has her face buried in her cell phone. We finally were able to flag her down to let her know about the cold eggs benedict and she took it back to the kitchen and literally less than 5 seconds later another server came out of the kitchen with another eggs benedict that he said had just been plated....that was a lie because it was ice cold as well. When we finally flagged down our server she was going to have the kitchen make another one. After 20-30 minutes my wife was irritated and said forget it. Stay away from this place. I don't recommend it. The servers are more worried about playing on their cell phones than giving you good service and the food isn't that great! Maybe if the food was actually hot it would have been better and we would have enjoyed it. We won't be returning. read more
