My wife and I flew in and landed our plane at Shannon Airport for our very first aviation date, and we decided to stop by Robin's Nest what an incredible experience! The café has a charming 50s-style theme with great music and an unbeatable view of airplanes landing and taking off. We arrived close to closing time, but Mary, couldn't have been sweeter. She went out of her way to accommodate us and made two milkshakes that were absolutely perfect. Her kindness and hospitality made the visit even more special. This is a neat little restaurant, much like a 50's diner, tucked in an airport over near the soccer fields in Fredricksburg, VA. They have some good food and apparently make their chili in house versus from a bag like many places. It is just begging to be made into a huge Frito pie! The people here are nice and the food is good with big portions and a fair price. There is also an old DC-3 sitting there but we didn't get the chance to walk around it or go to the museum on field. I went in with my niece for the first time, it was 3:20PM when we walked in. I made sure online and on the front door, they close at 4. I smile at the lady behind the register she doesn't smile, say hello, welcome in. Just stays silent. It was my first time in so I went to the front counter and grabbed a menu and then someone from the back comes out and says to the worker "I'll hang back for a couple of minutes" the lady behind the register goes "huh?!" He repeats himself, she then replies with an attitude "oh, I'm not" meaning she wasn't staying any longer than 4 o'clock. (Keep in mind I knew they were closing in 40 minutes so I was going to order my food and take it to go) The lady was clearly upset she had to work the last 40 minutes of her shift, I just put the menu down and left with my niece. Sucks because this is a small local place to me but I wasn't trying to give business to a place that was open, if it didn't want to be open. read more

I absolutely love this cafe! I had no idea it was in my town. I'm totally a fan. I will now try and go once a month. I like to sit out on the patio and watch the airplanes come and go. I had their amazing club sandwich and fries and a chocolate milkshake. I can't remember the gentleman's name who checked on us and the sweet lady who rang us up, but they were so charming. I did not think to take a picture because I was so awe'd by my surroundings. Not crowded around lunch time and I hope I can keep it my secret spot. read more

This is the cutest little retro cafe ever!! Such an old-timey classic feel to it. How do more people not know about this place? You can sit and watch the planes take-off and land while enjoying food and company. I didn't order food this time, but I can't wait to come back and try some! I've heard really good things about their Cubans. I got a Key Lime Pie milkshake at the recommendation of my cashier Caroline (she was super sweet and helpful!!!). The milkshake was really good. We loved this place! My sister and I brought our kids (a 10 year old, a 7 year old, a 4 year old, a two year old, and 3 month old twins). We sat on the patio and saw a couple trains, a plane land, a tractor and several trucks. The food was excellent. We especially loved the fries, the cheeseburgers, and the chicken salad(it was amazing--beautiful, huge cranberries, lots of meat; I have been dreaming about salad like that!) And the water was really good (I know that is strange to mention, but that was noteworthy to us). The service was the best part. Erin and someone else (sorry, I did not get her name) were so helpful to us. They helped us put tables together, accommodated our eating needs, brought us food and water outside, gave us samples of pumpkin ice cream, carried our trash inside, and were just so kind. Burgers, fries, onion rings, ice cream and soda...and at the same time watching planes land and take off. What an incredible 50s vibe this place has. The food was fantastic. Coke in a bottle.... Unexpected little gem. Great speedy and friendly! From the outside it can appear bland, however on the inside it is 1950's adorable. The menu is pretty basic like family-diner, however the taste was above expectations and the service was speedy. They have trains passing and airplanes, a museum as well so you can make a small day event out of it. Love it! read more

Great little restaurant tucked in between the FBO and the flight school! The friendly staff always take your order with a smile, and the food is delicious. The interior is decorated in classic 50's/60's chrome diner style, with four tables on an airside patio (perfect for plane watching). They even have a small shop selling t-shirts, headsets, oil, etc. Of the 12 entrees, the Bellanca (Cheeseburger) is pretty good but the Robin's Nest (Classic Cuban) is on point! For dessert, grab a cup, cone, or bowl of Hershey's Ice Cream in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and flavor of the month. They also serve sundaes, milkshakes, and floats (you choose from among a variety of Coca-Cola and Dominion sodas). All that, and free popcorn to boot! I've lived in Fredericksburg my whole life, and the Robin's Nest is the finishing touch to Shannon Airport's comeback! read more

We tried the Bellanco cheeseburger with chips and the Robins Nest Classic Cuban with chips. With a bottle Water and a Butter bourbon truffle milkshake. Food was good really enjoyed the Cuban and milkshake. Nice and clean, friendly and spacious. There are a few tables outside on the patio to watch the planes. They do have sandwhiches for breakfast.
