Canal path along brewery

We arrived at 21 Locks for breakfast and coffee and stayed for lunch. The owner of the brewery, Dessio, and chef Michael could not have been more kind. Dessio gave us a full tour of the facilities and a full beer tasting. I will start will breakfast- My wife greatly enjoyed her honey coffee toast. My lemon ricotta toast w lemon jam was spot on. The coffee and egg bites were delicious as well. Dessio went out of his way to let us try their beers and guest taps as well. There was definitely a beer for everyone as every one of them was solid. My wife loved the Pitch dark lager and I was an instant fan of Lock Fest, their fest bier. We are from South Jersey. Being located between NY and Philly has spoiled us and made us food snobs. The pizza that Michael made was spot on and as good as the best we have had. We were very impressed. On a side note, prior to arriving at 21 Locks, we had come from a final meeting with my wife's cancer surgeon. Dessio and Michael's genuine kindness and sincerity could not have been timed better for what we needed on this day. Thank you! We will definitely be returning here in the future.

Not just dog friendly, but genuinely kind and happy to have her there, which means so much to me as a dog mom. The bartenders, Savannah and Bill, absolutely made the experience. They were welcoming, attentive, and so easy to talk to. They made me feel comfortable right away and treated Luna with so much love, like she belonged there. You can tell when people truly care, and they really do. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed, and inviting. It's the kind of place where you can actually unwind, enjoy your drink, and feel at home. Great vibes, great energy, and even better people behind the bar. If you're looking for a brewery that truly welcomes dogs and their humans with open arms, this is it. I'll definitely be back, and Luna will be too.

We sat at the bar right by the giant tv, so great place to watch Sunday football. Had lovely conversations both with the bartender (a fellow high school teacher!) and the gentleman sitting next to us. Located in a strip mall and very small inside, but super friendly vibes here. Just a really cool and chill place to hang out for a few hours. 10 beers on tap with nice variety. They had a nice selection of German style beers leftover from their Oktoberfest the week before. My girlfriend and I both got flights and really enjoyed everything we tried. We live about an hour away but will absolutely come back if we're ever nearby again!

Pretty sure Village Idiot is the OG brewery in the underrated town of Mt. Holly, which makes it one…read moreof the oldest breweries still operating in South Jersey. Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.

Fun place, good beer! Loved the decor of the place and the ambiance. All around a very friendly…read moreplace!
