There were some outdoor games going on, so it was a nice vibe, and I enjoyed the beer I got that night, though I can't recall whch one it was. This bar doesn't sell any food, but there was a food truck right outside from which a few guys bought food. Overall a pretty fun experience, and I would return when it's nice out again.

They also have really nice outdoor grounds that are open in warmer weather. There are nice views and you can see for miles. There is always at least one good food truck but you can also bring your own food or order in for delivery. The beer is in line with any top tier craft brewery and they offer a wide variety of beer styles with at lease 24 on draft at any given time and most are available in cans to go too. The staff are wonderful and knowledgeable too. My only criticism is that they don't allow dogs or offer flights, or serve beer in glass (only plastic cups) nor do they offer any beer size smaller than 16oz. You can ask for tastes and they will be happy to allow you to sample all of the draft beer. I just with you could order a 6 or 8oz.

Not just dog friendly, but genuinely kind and happy to have her there, which means so much to me as a dog mom. The bartenders, Savannah and Bill, absolutely made the experience. They were welcoming, attentive, and so easy to talk to. They made me feel comfortable right away and treated Luna with so much love, like she belonged there. You can tell when people truly care, and they really do. The atmosphere is warm, relaxed, and inviting. It's the kind of place where you can actually unwind, enjoy your drink, and feel at home. Great vibes, great energy, and even better people behind the bar. If you're looking for a brewery that truly welcomes dogs and their humans with open arms, this is it. I'll definitely be back, and Luna will be too.

We sat at the bar right by the giant tv, so great place to watch Sunday football. Had lovely conversations both with the bartender (a fellow high school teacher!) and the gentleman sitting next to us. Located in a strip mall and very small inside, but super friendly vibes here. Just a really cool and chill place to hang out for a few hours. 10 beers on tap with nice variety. They had a nice selection of German style beers leftover from their Oktoberfest the week before. My girlfriend and I both got flights and really enjoyed everything we tried. We live about an hour away but will absolutely come back if we're ever nearby again!

I walked into Broad Street Brewing several weeks ago to check out the scene and grab some take-out…read morebeer after a visit to Sal's. I was disappointed to see they only had two of their flagship beers for takeout (Hey Yo NE IPA and Independence Lager) and no crowler canning machine for their tap list. They will fill your personal growler and the prices for their 16oz four packs were fair. $10 for their lager and $14 for their Hey Yo NE IPA. There are a lot of other breweries charging much higher prices and/or you're paying a flat amount for beers no matter what the style (which is ridiculous) .... I can understand a higher retail if it's a limited release or higher end brew. I made it a point to return and sit down inside the brewery to take it all in. My life plans landed me there on a Sunday, unfortunately Sal's next door is closed on Sundays, so a food truck parked outside or Durham Deli across the street had to do. The layout on the inside is inviting: picnic tables or bar seating are your options. They have board games to test your mind or keep your kids occupied and there were several TV's playing NFL games. The bartender was nice and a good conversation. He was very into their beers and gave great insight into: when they were tapped, what was coming down the pike and info/ingredients of current tapped brews. I didn't see much in the way of a menu with descriptions of each beer, but then again I didn't ask. I just looked at the tap list on their menu boards which noted the tap number (16 total), name of the beer, style, abv, price and the ounces of the pour. In my opinion the variety of beer styles they had would give any beer drinker several options to try. I sampled a few different styles: Belgian IPA 7%, Winter Warmer 9.4% and their American Pilsner 5.8%. I found them to be average to slightly above average and served in proper glassware. You can get flights, a single 5oz pour or in a glass that ranged from 10-20 ounce pours. The prices were between $5-$7 for a 10-20 oz. pour. The to-go cooler had four of their brews this time and also a second cooler had local Jericho Mountain Beef. You can buy several different styles of vacuum sealed meats that looked delicious. They also serve wine, seltzers and non-alcoholic beverages. The bathrooms were pretty big and clean. They welcomed a pretty big family with several kids so I'd say your safe to bring the fam!! I'm a fan of Broad Street Brewing, I think their prices are more than fair, the staff was nice, their beers are average to above average and true to the style (from what I've tried) and the building itself was clean, open and inviting. I enjoyed my experience there and will return (preferably during Sal's business hours!). Thanks guys!

They recently acquired MD brewery DuClaw as well and continue to brew their beers and distribute under the same name. They distribute widely across NJ, PA, NY so it's pretty easy to find at liquor stores and restaurants, and I've had their beers many times over the years. Their beer is pretty solid with some fun and inventive offerings. My girlfriend and I stopped into their taproom for the first time on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite possibly the worst taproom we've ever been to out of 80+ NJ breweries we have visited together. It looks like they concentrate all of their time and effort on production and distribution and have not spent any time creating a decent place to hang out. Almost no decor. All plastic cups (a personal pet peeve of mine in breweries). Not even a permanent bar of any kind. There were only four other people the whole time we were there so the atmosphere was pretty dead. We ordered flights, and the names of the beers were written in abbreviations right on the cups which made it impossible to read on the darker beers. But the beer was very good! We really enjoyed our flights and bought a six pack of the imperial pumpkin ale to bring home with us. We'll continue to drink their beer, but I don't recommend coming to the taproom at all.

I will stop in on occasion to fill a growler or grab some cans to go but would not want to spend any time here. Hard to tell exactly when it opened, as their website offers scant information, but they first started posting on Facebook in 2011 if that is anything to go by. They don't have a large footprint in the NJ brewing scene as they don't distribute to any liquor stores or bars/restaurants (they don't even offer beers in cans to go), and they don't do any big events other than the typical karaoke or trivia nights. What they do offer is a nice place to hang out in an old historic building right on the Main Street in the downtown area, and a solid lineup of beers. One thing that makes them stand out is a great selection of beers on nitro. From my experience with NJ breweries, you're lucky to find a single beer on nitro. At Village Idiot there are seven of them, most of them dessert stouts like a cookie butter white stout and a salted caramel milk stout. All that we tried were delicious and not crazy high in ABV like other dessert stouts. Flights are only $10 which is pretty cheap compared to other NJ breweries. Of note is that as of November 2025 they no longer allow outside drinks including water bottles like Nalgenes and Stanley Cups. Too many idiots sneaking in alcohol, according to their social media. Overall it has a bit more of a dive bar vibe only frequented by locals rather than a traditional NJ brewery, but the beer is definitely good enough, and the surrounding Main Street charming and quaint enough that I would definitely return.
