I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience warrants one. The day after my gel manicure, every nail developed bubbling. The salon offered to redo the service, which I appreciated, but doing so required me to fit another hour-and-a-half appointment into an already busy travel schedule. Unfortunately, the second service produced disappointing results as well. Within two days, the gel polish began chipping on multiple nails making me question whether there is an issue with the products being used. My mother-in-law had an appointment at the same time and her manicure was visibly streaky. The salon also told me they would follow up the day after the redo to see how the manicure was holding up, but I never heard from anyone. The services totaled $200 before gratuity. At that price point, I expect products, application, and overall quality to be held to a much higher standard. While I appreciate the salon's willingness to redo the original service, the repeat failure, the lack of follow-up, and the additional quality issues we experienced left me disappointed and unable to recommend this salon for gel manicure services. read more

This space is very clean and beautiful. It looks like it was just redone and I am sure they do great work. I decided not to get my pedicure here because they do not have massage chairs, and for me that's one of the best perks of getting a pedicure. I don't have any bad things to say - just wanted yall to know what you're getting yourself into. NO massage chairs, just big cushioned arm chairs that do not recline. read more

I went in for a full gel x set French tip. The salon lady kept asking me if she had applied a coat on that hand or not. I felt odd doing her job for her. Two of my nails aren't even applied on correctly they're already lifting... Then twice she hit my arm with the machine filer thank god I had a long sleeve shirt on!! Then, when I tried telling her there was a little fuzz on my nail she replied I don't see it. And added another coat as if that would fix anything. I was very kind by telling her what I didn't like she made no effort to fix or accommodate me. I then told the manager whom said she could redo them but this was after 2 hours I couldn't stay any longer. anyway I would not recommend this place for the price and the quality and the lack of attention to detail. read more

I get a basic pedicure all over Orange County, about every 3 weeks. I know the average price. Never a dime over $30, without tip of course. Was my first time here, I sat down and asked for a pedicure, wasn't giving any options, truthfully, didn't even know there was options, until I paid. For the record, when a receptionist asks , "have you been here before" it's important to let the customer know about the menu differences before services are done, right? Anywho first time, and last. Took 1 hour and 30 minutes to the dot. Service was great, I had already mentally set aside $15 in my head for tip because she was nice and interactive. That was before I was told at the end that it was $50. (At that point I only gave her a $10 tip) Lesson learned tho. Place is nice, well put together. read more

This salon is beautiful. The chairs are super comfortable and it smells great. All the front desk staff are very nice and approachable. I like that you can even book appointments online and request who you want. It makes it soo much easier when I need a last minute appointment. Kate is a miracle worker. My cuticles and nails were a hot mess before I met her. I've been going to her for years now, with my natural nails, and they never break and my cuticles look normal again. I don't know what magic she has but I will never let anybody else do my nails ever again! I always let her pick my designs and she comes up with the BEST designs. read more

I have been coming to the salon for five years and me and my friend both had the same experience which has made us leave coming to this place permanently. The customer service is rude. They have no loyalty to their long-term customers if you show up five minutes late they refuse to do anything else to your nails outside of whatever window of time they give you. They don't add an extra time for design, they take three hours to do your nails. The front desk is rude and gave me attitude. I put in the notes in my appointment that I wanted to design. They didn't look at my notes and then said that they couldn't accommodate it because they didn't see it. Their prices are insane. If you bring your own nail polish, they don't give you a discount they charge you the exact same way. The shape of your nails is never consistent The only person that was really good at nails here Pauline is now gone and she has left because it's a terrible place to be. I went in to get my nails fixed from a previous salon because I was not happy with how thick they turned out and the color didn't match what I was looking for. Jackie took care of me and filed them down, reshaped them and gave me a beautiful French. The prices are a bit higher than what I am used to at typical salons but this salon is a bit more elevated in decor, and offers many options in colors and brands as well as beverages. Jackie knew what she was doing and recommended that I take them off and start over with a more natural option of gel x and building on my natural nail moving forward. Highly recommend this salon. I love this place! I would always get a gelx manicure & regular pedicure. They were always so quick. I would be out of there within an hour to an hour and a half at max. This place is a dime in a dozen. The staff really care about their work and never rush. They give you the best service and care. I originally was on the fence since they don't do colored dip but clear dip with gel overlay but honestly I can't complain! It's the same thing but with easy changes. They do fill when you want to change the color. Overall, the place is relaxed and the vibe is easy going. The staff is attentive and they really make you feel like you are getting the best service. I got my nails done a week ago and thankfully they were able to accommodate me as a walk-in. I requested a gel manicure and it was the most basic manicure I've ever had. My nails weren't even put in water. One of my nails didn't dry under the lamp so when the manicurist tried to put on the clear coat, it messed up the color, but all she did was go over it with the color so my nail (the thumb) was very uneven, like a child did it. It wasn't until I was sitting in my car looking at my nails, that I realized how uneven and bumpy they looked. If I had time, I would have gone back to get them fixed but I was going out of town and would just have to deal with them. It's now been a week and 3 of my nails are already chipped. This was the worst $60 I've ever spent on my nails ($50+ tip). Highly unlikely I'll go back. read more

Is 2 hours not enough time? I had gel builder over my natural nails -without extensions & 0 design. Now my natural nails are ruined under this hot mess. I was told over the phone to return at 6pm to get these fixed only to get there and you to turn me away til the next day. Wasting my time again. Rosie is very aggressive and not friendly to say the least. She was aggressive and has an attitude. I was not too upset about it because she might have a rough day, I did not know. BUT, when she cured my nails, it was so PAINFUL. She lifted my nails up and move them. This never happened before with any other nail techs. EVER. People who are passive aggressive should not be in this business in my opinion. I had a really wonderful experience at the salon! My biggest beef about nail places is that they smell so chemically. This place not only didn't smell bad, but it smelled AMAZING. From the moment I walked through the door I was really impressed with the cleanliness, ventilation & thoughtfulness of the decor. I had an optometry appointment and decided to do my nails..I just looked at the closest nail salon and found 1989 nail bar on Yelp. I love the decor of the salon and wasn't expecting such variety. I ended up doing gel X mani and gel pedi.. Helen is my pedi nail tech and I was a little overwhelmed with the spa pedi selection but she recommended the jasmine one and....it smells AMAZING!! They also offer wine, mimosa, champagne or tea...Helen took the time and explain to me that they really try to keep up with the trend and do things that won't damage your nails. My mani nail tech is Pauline and I showed her the design that I'm thinking and she's like ok! Mind you it's different color each nail and shape. She did it and I love that she was paying attention to detail. PLUS the nails look like the design. I'm okay paying more for nails as long as it looks like what I wanted...cause lord knows I've been to a bunch of salons and the design didn't come out like what I wanted. I never write reviews but I love 1989! I've been to 3 different nail salons in the last year and I never felt like my requested nail design turned out how I wanted. 1989 delivers! First visit: I came in requesting gel x extensions + gel French manicure nail design. This was my first time doing gel x, I was nervous! Tracy offered me champagne and was super attentive to detail in getting the design exactly right. She even stayed past the salon closing time, i was the last customer but she did not rush it. I LOVED the result, it was sooo beautiful. I got a new customer + cash discount, the price was very reasonable! Second visit: I requested gel x removal + gel manicure design on natural nail. I asked for Tracy again because I trust her! She discussed with me some elements of my design and I felt very comfortable. She's good at communicating and is such a perfectionist: she is always cleaning up tiny elements and checking all the angles. I was shocked because after the gel x removal my natural nail was long and healthy, there was ZERO damage from the past extension. Again, I was really happy with the end result design. Since I paid cash, I got a 10% discount and again the price was very reasonable. I also want to mention that the girls who work the front desk are so friendly and helpful. They sometimes come by and give input. The environment is really supportive and happy, I actually enjoy my time there. read more

Chloe nailed the design I asked for from an Insta post. I didn't get the woman's name who took care of my pedicure, but she was great as well, took extra care of my calluses, just in time for summer! Hidden gem! I'm not one to gatekeeper so I'm writing an honest review, despite the fact that for the first time I live a business so much that I want to keep it for myself. Amazing service, great staff, hands down best nail spot I've ever been to! Their prices are affordable for the quality of service you get. I've had my nails done by almost all the technicians there and I've never had any complaints. They do a VERY clean job and make you feel valued while they work their magic. The place is very aesthetic, they offer you drinks and you can get flower pedals in the water during your pedicure.
