I've been getting my nails done for over 30 years and had fantastic service and disastrous service. It's always scary when you lose a long term nail technician that you have built a relationship with because it's not easy to find that same level of talent, creativity, comfort, communication but most of all trust with someone new. I have high expectations and it's hard to find someone who meets my level of expectation with ANY type of service provider in the first place (these days) much less come across a nail technician (specifically) that exceeds my expectations after just my first and second appointments. Well, Vicki at Friendly Nail Spa, has done just that. Vicki was referred to me after expressing my frustration about having a difficult time finding a nail place, specifically a nail technician, that could understand my needs for my nails (and pedicures) and it's not a difficult ask really especially when there are so many pictures out there that people bring in, myself included, to show exactly what'd you'd like your nails to look like; color, shape, length etc.... And from there shape and length should always be the same right? Anyway so I was referred to Vicki by someone who has been going to her for over a decade at least. Now I know why and I will do the same for as long as she is available or I am able to reach her and yes only after TWO appointments!!! Her attention to detail, her making sure she is doing exactly what you need/want hands & toes, her talent, warmth, care and friendliness personally is fantastic. But not only is it Vicki that I appreciated and am so thrilled to have found now in my nail "person/technician"... but the salon was so relaxing. There was peaceful music playing and it was such a positive, serene environment which was the complete opposite of the most recent salon I had gone to only three times where I was running into so many other clients or staff and felt like one in a million and even though I tip big I always got attitude. At Friendly Nail Spa I truly felt like my generosity was appreciated in the reaction AND an actual thank you which I never got at the last place... Rude! It's one less thing I have to worry about now which is nice on my plate in this crazy life but It actually fills me with joy to know that there are great salons still out there like this that I get to walk to and talented appreciative kind good people who are literally magic with their hands that I get to have in my life! These are probably the best Gel nails I have ever gotten done in my entire life. I don't say that lightly. These have lasted AN ENTIRE MONTH. Of course they're looking a little worn, but I have never had gel builder nails last this long, make my nails this thick, and not chip until literally yesterday. I came in on a Sunday and was about 10 minutes late for my appointment, so i'm thinking my wait time was affected by that, but even so, I did have to wait about an hour and and half to finally get seen by someone and even then, they left me unattended for way longer than necessary while soaking my nails. Their shop was BUSY, which is a good sign, even if annoying lol. I had complained to the tech that the last shop I went to charged me to cut my cuticle and didn't tell me til the end; this shop did the exact same thing to me, plus charged to take off my last polish, so that is what resulted in a 4/5 stars. Since having to find a new shop in the past 6 months, i've noticed most places in this part of Costa Mesa do this, so I might have to find a place outside of here where I won't get charged for my cuticle, which is literally part of a manicure... Paid around $55 including tip for the most durable gel builder manicure i've ever gotten. The extra $10 dollars miiiight just be worth it. Will definitely come back in the future. read more

Ughh never again. I went here because it's super close to my house. I normally go to Nail Ave 2 in Anaheim but due to car troubles I was forced to stay around the area. It started off alright enough. I had peeled most of my old acrylics off and the lady was hacking away at my fingers and never really got the old ones off. She drilled them down but I could still see the outline of them even when she put on the new set. I asked for a simple fade of pink and white and they couldn't do it and after 4 failed attempts I said to just paint them a solid color. I was cut 4 times and my pinky bled pretty badly. Super painful experience and I left with acrylic powder all stuck to my hands and my nails were so sharp on the sides that I scratched myself by accident. Several nails are crooked too. The prices are cheap, and judging by the service, I can see why. read more

I been here a couple of times and each time I came I wanted to love it but this place isn't the "friendliest" and they cut me when I got acrylics. She lady didn't even seem to care or offer a alcohol wipe. I just stay quiet cause I didn't want to make a big deal. Im not one to give bad reviews. I should have checked the reviews!! But i came here because i wanted a SIMPLE matte nude color.... so the lady, apart from us coming in shes slouching on a chair not bothering to get up (my sister in law and i had to go to HER) show her two styles that were asking for (hers a bit more complicated). But my experience is this: i ask for something VERY simple, she insist on going with whats called a "dip" rather than gel i show her the picture of what i want EXACTLY. After shes told me that the "dip" is $40 and gel is $35 i go with dip thinking I've never done this and i may like it (plus she says it looks more natural and thin).... WRONG. The shape is BAD. The nails are BUMPY. And they're already chipping and PEELING!! I got these done Thursday (09/12) it is now Friday (09/13). Apart from that. She starts putting clear coat on it and i ask her "youre going to put matte after right?" And shes like "this is top coat" and i say "okay well i wanted matte". She proceeds to talk with her co-worker in their language, i asume about me. And she gets the GEL MATTE POLISH!! . She says "you pay extra $5 for matte"..... i KID YOU NOT i was about to scream at her!! (mind you by this time... my sister in law is already done with hers and im STARVING and pregnant). But i tell her "no im not paying the extra $5 because i want matte *points to picture* this is matte" co-workers speak back and forth for a few seconds. And i dont end up paying the extra $5..... i am NEVER coming back here! I should have just gone with my gut- GEL, smooth it down and thin... and do my damn nude matte.
