This place hits all the marks for me - clean, affordable, high-quality food. Worth the walk in the humidity from my hotel!

The bar was nice, but I did not care for oversized TVs in such a small space. The Tx Caviar was not well seasoned; we would not order it again. The Roasted Tomato Soup was thicker than my taste. It was better with the homemade croutons from my husband's Caesar Salad. He added Blackened Red Snapper to the salad that was lightly seasoned and overcooked.

On weekends, they have a breakfast buffet, but I'm not really a fan of buffets (why am I subsidizing big eaters) and stuck with the a la carte menu. The Bacon & Egg sandwich is a pretty big and was tasty, with the chipotle aioli being a nice touch. The Chicken & Waffles is solid too, with the crispy chicken being the star! Great batter, which a nice touch of spice, and not at all dry. For lunch, I thought the Blackened Redfish on grits was very satisfying. I also recommend their Crispy Chicken Sandwich, which I asked for spicy. Very satisfying! It comes with a side and I chose Caesar Salad. I also had their Roasted Tomato Soup and was a big fan of the garlic chips garnish. Their Roasted Marble Potatoes are fine, if a bit mid. Their Charred Broccolini is worth getting.

The dining room is chic and feels very upscale but comfortable with a large open fire kitchen that was really fun to watch while dining. They were very on top of service with both our dining captain and waiter checking on us throughout the evening. For appetizers we ordered the deviled crabs, tuna tostada and wood roasted carrots. All were great but I especially loved the carrots which were cooked and seasoned perfectly. For my main course I had the chicken and dumplings, husband got the NY strip, our friends shared the whole fish and we had the cabbage and crab rice as sides. Everyone was very happy with both their main courses and the side dishes. We were too stuffed to order dessert but they sent out a s'mores inspired sunday for my birthday which was both thoughtful and sublime. Overall we were very impressed with our meal. Food was delicious but veeeery indulgent. We will be back.

A Solid Olive Garden-Like Experience…read more Not a bad experience overall, but definitely not the cozy steakhouse vibe it was described as. The menu leaned heavily toward sandwiches, with a reasonable selection of salads and a few steak options thrown in. The cocktails, unfortunately, were flat-out gross--easily the low point of the meal. That said, not everything missed. The chicken fingers with fries and mac & cheese were genuinely good--crispy, satisfying, and probably the highlight. But the rest of the sides didn't hold up. The coleslaw tasted like it came straight out of a can, and the roasted artichokes were overwhelmed with a liquid smoke flavor that made them completely inedible. Service was another issue. One waitress initially took our order, but about ten minutes later, a second waitress came over to let us know she couldn't read the first one's handwriting and asked us to repeat everything. Drinks arrived just a couple of minutes before the food, which felt poorly timed. The final straw was when we asked to box up leftovers. The waitress stacked all of our plates--about six of them--on top of the food we wanted to take home and carried everything to the back. That completely killed any interest in keeping the leftovers. In the end, it felt more like a casual chain dining experience than the elevated, cozy steakhouse we expected.

We ordered the following: - Mama Pauly's Meatballs - Buttermilk Popcorn Chicken Bites - White Truffle Devil Eggs - Single Cheeseburger Separate from the Happy Hour Menu: - KP's Wicked Wings (BBQ Flavor) - Crispy Sweet n/ Sour Shrimp Out of everything we ordered from the happy hour menu, I would personally recommend the meatballs, truffle devil eggs, and cheeseburger. The meatballs and tomato sauce were both solid and I loved the toasted bread on the side. As for the truffle deviled eggs, that's something you don't see often on the menu! The truffle flavor/aroma was solid and the fresh chips on top were nice. The cheeseburger was pretty good and I enjoyed all the veggies that came with! Aside from that, the restaurant had a neat interior/decorations and good service!

Our server, Tirrell, was genuinely one of the nicest & kindest servers we've ever had. Gave good recommendations, brought our food out in a timely order and was simply a great guy overall. Definitely recommend sitting in his section if you get the chance! Food: We started with Bang Bang Chicken which was so so good!!! perfectly balanced sweet & sour and somehow still had a kick to it. For entrees, we got the Mediterranean Chicken bowl and the Blackened Chicken. I only have one thing to say for both: So. Much. Flavor Desert finished it off just well enough for me to want to return tomorrow. We had the chocolate cake but the Creme Brulee Cheesecake is hands down the way to go. Definitely coming back here!!

We live in the area and passed by this spot so many times without even knowing The exterior is appealing and eye catching. The whole section of restaurants has a trendy and family friendly vibe. It would be the perfect spot to enjoy some outdoor bites and libations if not for the insufferable weather we have most of the year, but luckily, the interior is just as lovely. It's immaculate, well decorated, and deceptively spacious. There's plenty of booths, tables, and there's even a fully stocked bar and takeaway area The menu offers a variety of delicacies from a french dip, to pecan crusted chicken, to enchiladas. They have lovely handcrafted cocktails to choose from - some classic cocktails and some signature concoctions Everything tasted and looked great. The pecan chicken was more sweet than I expected, but still good. All of the sides were great. The cocktails looked great and tasted good. I did order one cocktail that gave ingredients but mentioned a "thick pink juice" that is made in-house, and upon my initial taste I soon discovered they meant beet juice. It wasn't bad, just unexpected and a little overpowering Our sever was good. Our orders came out quickly and without any issues. We did have to wait a while for top-offs on water. Also, as I was taking photos of the food our server was behind me and I apologized and they said "phone eats first," and I hope that was only meant in jest and not throwing shade lol Some tips: These plates aren't the most shareable, but if in a group I would consider ordering a variety of entrees and sides and trying each others meals If you're feeling something sweet after your meal, consider walking next door to Milk + Sugar. They're one of my favorite West Houston ice cream parlors Cheers!!

Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in quite some time. We had an 8:00 PM reservation but weren't seated until around 8:30 PM. While delays happen and I was willing to overlook that, the experience only went downhill from there. We ordered Palomas to kick off our Friday night. The drinks took quite a while to arrive, and when they did, they were noticeably watered down. I politely mentioned it to our server, who quickly took them back and brought replacements, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second round was nearly identical to the first. When I brought it up again, instead of acknowledging the feedback, the server responded by saying it was "just not a sugary drink." That completely missed the point. I wasn't expecting a sweet cocktail--I was pointing out that the drinks tasted diluted and poorly made. What bothered me most wasn't the drinks themselves, but how the feedback was handled. I wasn't looking for free drinks or trying to be difficult. I was simply offering honest feedback, and it felt like my opinion was being dismissed rather than heard. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. We ordered several dishes to get a good sense of the menu, and most were overwhelmingly salty. The salt overpowered any other flavors to the point that we couldn't finish some of the dishes. The sushi was the best thing we had, but even that lacked the presentation and quality I would expect at this price point. To be fair, the manager did remove the drinks from our bill as a courtesy, and I appreciate that gesture. However, by that point the damage had already been done. A resolution is only effective when guests feel heard and respected throughout the process. Instead, I felt like I had to defend my opinion and justify my feedback before anyone took it seriously. At the end of the day, a restaurant can be trendy, crowded, and beautifully designed, but none of that matters if the food and service don't deliver. Balboa Surf Club has the atmosphere and location, but in my experience it falls short where it matters most. Overall, I'm glad I finally tried it because I had always been curious, but now I know I won't be back and cannot recommend it. If you're looking for a similar concept, I'd recommend Hudson House. The atmosphere is comparable, but the drinks are consistently well-made, the food is much better, and the service has always been far superior.

The decor was a combo of old money Houston and mid-century mod. Lots of plants, lots of wood. Very dim. Service was slow but attentive and friendly. There are no mocktails on the drink menu, but they have a few on deck. They can also custom make you one. My husband ordered a Paloma and stated that it was very strong. For an app, we got the coconut shrimp. 10/10 -- well fried, coconut forward. Fun and easy bites. We also got the salmon roll and thought it was refreshing. Light umami, sauce was not needed. For our mains, we got the cheeseburger and redfish. My husband does not love seafood, but he devoured the redfish. It was flaky, buttery, with lots of crab. The burger was ok -- it reminded me of an elevated Big Mac. It was not a bad burger, but it wasn't that melty, gooey, buttery number some of us love. Get the lemon meringue. She is zesty, she is thick, she is tall. My husband, toddler, and I shared it and were stuffed. Balboa is a place I would take someone who likes seafood and good vibes.
