I came for happy hour and got a crispy red bean pancake $5.95 and minced pork over rice for $6.95. Both were delicious, the pork over rice came with an egg & bok choy making me pretty full afterwards. Our whole meal took under 30mins and food took 5mins to come out! The decor is very cute, and there is plenty of seating. They also have a boba menu.
This Taiwanese fusion restaurant right of the heart of downtown. It is just a little off from the main road. The restaurant is mainly smaller table. They do have outside seating area. We start with beef noodle soup. I think this is ok dish. I prefer beef with a bit fat. The second dish is the popcorn chicken. Which is the good five spice marinate is good. We also got steam pork belly but I think we can skip dish. The beef with scallions is good and tasty. The three cup chicken needs to be more wine in it. Other than that all is good.
The malatang isn't that great here, lacking flavor. The biggest plus was 19 Gold is open on Mondays (a lot of spots in Fremont are closed Mondays) along with their good service. My party of two went on a rainy Monday and we were seated right away with the place being almost empty. Interior looks casual, sporting an industrial look with some Asian theming and plenty of two seater tables with some for four seats. Staff were quick to help us get our order going, likely as there was almost no one else in the restaurant at the time. I got the House Special (beef, with the super rich malatang broth), and it was just alright. The soup overall was just warm (temp wise) and not hot. Broth was mild on the spice level and had a rich flavor, but had a slightly off herbal note to it which wasn't quite my thing and not enough mala to it. By contrast, my dining partner got the regular malatang broth and it was quite spicy but lacked flavor beyond it just being spicy. The noodles were average, and the meat was on the tougher side and needed some chewing. My guess is the House Specials (the one my friend and I ordered) both tasted like they had the ingredients sitting on the side and then scooped broth over them when we ordered them. But since the broth wasn't hot enough/there was no time for the ingredients to sit in the broth, all the ingredients ended up lacking flavor. The green onion pancake was also just fine and ended up what we both ate the most of after abandoning finishing our noodles. However, the tea here was pretty good! I got their Japanese twice roasted milk tea and it had a great tea flavor to it. I'm glad there's a Taiwanese spot which is open on Mondays in the Fremont area, but was disappointed with the noodles/soup, especially as it's named the House Special. Service was quick and attentive, which was the plus of 19 Gold. Maybe I would consider coming here for their tea again (not too many options for bubble tea in Fremont), but not their food.

This was my first time trying malatang, and I enjoyed it. Food and drinks were good, a bit hit and miss. Service was nice and friendly. * Dumpling Malatang + Udon Noodles in Original Malatang Broth (Spicy) - 4/5 - The broth was very flavorful due to the various spices. The Spicy level was medium low spicy, not too much. I added udon noodles and they were yummy and chewy. The dumplings were okay. * Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup 3.5/5 - The soup was alright, mildly spicy with a clear-body broth, the kind you'd have when you're feeling under the weather. It didn't have a complex flavor profile that I had at other restaurants. The beef was very tender and flavorful. Though its taste didn't match the broth's. It was as if they were cooked with completely different seasonings. The noodles were not good. I should have replaced them with udon noodles. * Jasmine Milk Tea and House Milk Tea 4/5 - The two milk tea were pretty good. 100% sweetness was perfect and not too sweet for me (I usually order 75% sweet). The boba was chewy and tasty.

We tried their meat malatang in rich broth, green beans, honey walnut shrimp and beef noodle soup. Everything came out really quick. Casual spot, good place to meet up with friends. Giving 3 stars as everything was pretty standard... I feel like all the flavors were very 'light.' Malatang - The creamy malatang broth was just okay. Had a very herbal note.. almost like chai which was interesting Green Beans - good! Crispy and flavorful, tasted as expected Honey Shrimp - crispy and fun. Portion is a bit small but enough. Their breading is unique here as it feels really light ! Beef Noodle Soup - pretty light broth which was kind of unexpected but noodles had a good texture and good amount of beef
Wow tried here again and just realized how cheap this place is! I don't think you can get the quality for this price anywhere else! Malatang at most places will definitely run you more than 20 bucks but here it's cheaper than say boiling point or YGF malatang for the same portion! the service was amazing, everything was authentic and hot I recommend and would come back
19 Gold is hands-down my go-to restaurant for take-out in Fremont. I crave their hot and uniquely spiced broth (fair warning, even the mild is a bit spicy, but the mild is perfect for those that love a savory spice in their food). You can't go wrong with either the original or super rich broth- I honestly switch back and forth depending on my mood. I order the mala udon every time, as I love the thick and chewy udon noodles paired with thinly shaved beef, cabbage, and quail egg. The malatang soup dumplings are yummy as well. Whenever I do dine in, the service is fast, and I like the Yelp queuing system so if there is a long wait, you can keep on eye on your place in line while you do some shopping nearby. The place is small, but cozy, and always seems to be close to full no matter the time of year. I've not had their boba, but that seems to be popular as well. Convenient location right across the street from the Lenin statue in the heart of Fremont. Quite a few bus routes within a few minutes walk!
Super affordable boba and snacks! Stopped by here for lunch after walking around the Fremont Sunday Street Market. Service was crazy fast and workers are chill. It was also not too busy inside. Love their popcorn chicken and milk tea - came with boba and jelly included.
First, the service was friendly and efficient which we appreciated. Decoration inside was so cute and my boyfriend really liked how rustic it felt. For a drink, my boyfriend and I shared the QQ milk tea at 50% sweet. It was delicious. Boba was cooked perfectly, I just wish it was coated with a bit more brown sugar for more flavor. Milk tea itself was delicious though. Light, creamy, and smooth. We ordered the green onion pancake which my boyfriend really enjoyed but I felt like it was just like any other green onion pancake. it was really flaky though and not too oily. For our main we got the house special malatang with the extra rich bone broth. When it came out I noticed the soup was just warm, I prefer my soups piping hot when it comes out. I also think they should boil the ingredients in the broth a little more to soak up the flavor. it felt like they just blanched the ingredients and then ladled the broth over it. broth itself was ok. it was indeed rich and creamy, I would've just preferred more spice and more of the mala kick from it. I would pass on the 19 gold fries next time. the fries weren't special and the chicken was pretty dry and tough to eat. they give you condensed milk with the fries and I was weirded out at first but after the first bite I was hooked. it's similar to like fries and ice cream. I do want to highlight how quick the kitchen was! Within 5 minutes of ordering, all the food was ready and at our table.
I'm still thinking about 19 GOLD! This is now one of my favorite restaurants after stumbling upon this delightful, Taiwanese restaurant in Fremont. 19 GOLD has the best malatang I've ever had! We had actually planned to get dinner somewhere else in Fremont, which we were told was an hour wait when we arrived. At first we were bummed, but everything happens for a reason, which led us to find a new restaurant. Thus, we came to 19 GOLD, which had no wait on a Saturday night, oddly enough. Although we were able to be seated, the place was pretty busy with patrons dining in and people getting takeout. The menu has Taiwanese classic dishes, and I love malatang, which is their house special, so had to try it. I ordered the malatang with the super rich broth upgrade and stewed pork rice to go with it. I loved it at the very first slurp. This broth was AMAZING! I really wish I could get this closer to home as it was such a delicious meal that was comforting. My partner had the beef noodle soup, which he loved. They have a framed article from The Seattle Times written up about the restaurant where I learned that 19 GOLD is named after the 19 spices used to make the malatang. Perfection! Seriously, whatever you order here, make sure to try the malatang! I'm still drooling!
The area is a casual shop for a quick bite. The staff were nice and the wait wasn't too bad for our food. Garlic String Beans 3.5/5 The beans were a bit bland and needed some seasoning. I couldn't really taste the garlic on them. It was a decent portion and had a good snap to them. 19 Gold Fries 4/5 I was expected a better ratio of chicken to fries, it seems like we only got 10 or so pieces of chicken. The fries were on the drier side which I kind of liked but it might not be everyone's favorite. The fries and chicken have a good crunch to them but it felt like the fries got stale quickly. Minced Pork Over Rice 4/5 The dish wasn't necessarily exceptional but it does hit the spot if you have a craving for pork and rice. I would've liked a bit more vegetables to have a balanced meal but still good. The egg seems like it needed to be braised a bit more Overall, the experience was decent. It's a good place if you want more variety rather than portion size. They might be better known for their malatang so I'm definitely open to revisiting and trying their noodle dishes during a colder day.
Very relaxed place. Not in a hurry. It did help that we were there at 330 on a Thursday. All the dishes I had were good. Not a stand out. Between the chicken over rice and the ramen. It would be worth going back. The only hold back is the price. Not living in Seattle this seemed like it was expensive about $18 dollars each. Not my ideal price but that's more of my own tastes. Ibid wish that the spicy level was more spicy. The mango shrimp was amazing
After visiting the Olympic National Park for a few days, my friend and I stopped by here for some dinner prior to leaving Seattle and we were specifically looking for Taiwanese food, and we loved the food here! I ordered some of their signature dishes and some dishes I would commonly order in Taiwanese restaurants, and they were all great. Everything tasted as authentically as I could imagine, ranging from the popcorh chicken to the minced pork over rice. My friend ordered the meat lover malatang, which was like a spicy soup with lots of ingredient such as bean sprouts, quail eggs, enoki mushroom, and so on, almost resembling hot pot style. I personally didn't have any complaints in terms of flavor as everything tasted great. My only minor criticism was that for the minced pork over rice, the pork's broth was a bit watery. Highly recommend for anyone looking for Taiwanese food in the Seattle area! read more
The thing that I liked the most about 19 Gold was their options. I felt like there was something for everyone, from MalaTang soup dishes, to rice dishes to some fried stuff too I got a simple dry noodle dish with pork and it was prepared well. The inside is pretty spacious, and that allowed for me and my friends to be seated immediately. We were also served pretty quickly, with our waiter being quick but not pushy. Very good restaurant for Malatang! I had their house special Malatang and it was pretty good. I enjoyed the broth and it came with a lot of things, such as fish balls, crab stick, veggies, etc. I was definitely fulfilled at the end of the meal. The service was good. The server was quick to take our orders and it didn't take that long for the food to be ready. The pricing for Malatang is good compared to other places. They also have other noodle dishes and rice dishes that I definitely want to try. The ambiance is good. The place is nicely decorated and organized. There's a decent amount of seating. read more

Always a consistent experience here and good classic Taiwanese food. They have many side dishes so it's almost like tapas style, you could order many and try different thibngs. About $7 each. I always get the red bean pancakes here which isn't too sweet and yummy. They also offer cocktails and boba, and the boba is really good and inexpensive! read more
I'd been wanting to try this place for a while and finally found time- not too busy on a Friday night but does progressively get busier. We ordered two of the restaurant week sets and I ordered the popcorn chicken and minced pork bowl. Pork bowl had a little too much rice to sauce ratio, marinated egg was actually a little dry, pickled cabbage was good- crispy and flavorful. Popcorn chicken wasn't bad, good crisp without being overly fried. Tried the green beans and they still had a snap to them, green onion pancake was super crispy, red bean pancake was also extra crispy and the red bean paste a little too mealy. Lots of good options, food comes out quickly. read more

Excellent dining experience--went on a Wednesday around dinner time and were seated immediately. The hostess offered to reseat us at a larger table when she noticed we were turning our heads to watch the TV footage of the Taiwanese night markets that they had playing--very kind. The food came out quickly (although the drinks took longer than expected), but was delicious overall. The Crispy Pineapple Prawns are always my favorite, and although the minced pork over rice is delicious, it was a bit light on the meat portion. The drinks were both delicious, and the popcorn chicken was moist. It was nice to have some footage playing in the background--it provided a great opportunity to recount to my friend what the night markets are like, and we enjoyed the various Taiwan-related pictures and items throughout the restaurant. read more

Tried this Taiwanese restaurant in Fremont, Seattle area recently. We started with appetizers of pop corn chicken, steamed pork belly with garlic sauce and garlic Taiwanese sausage. Each was unique in flavor, texture and paired well with Taiwanese gold medal beer. We enjoyed the Meat Lovers Malatang, Surf and Turf Malatang and Mince pork over rice for our entrees. The restaurant had good natural lighting and music playing at a reasonable volume. Service was good. A very unique experience and highly recommended for those looking for something new. read more
The first malatang Taiwanese noodle in Seattle! They are still our go to spot. Their portion is huge! Price varies from lunch and dinner. Limited seating as they only seat in the front section of the restaurant. Not sure why. Waiting area is one small bench. Be sure to grab some boba as well. Their spice level is not too spicy in my opinion and they do not have sauce bar, so don't expect that. Friendly staff as can be. They are always super busy so make sure to reserve a seat on yelp before you arrive so you don't have to wait upon arrival. read more
Cute place tucked away between a parking lot and a bar. 19 gold gave me a reminder of the taste of home. Though I may be a little biased because I think my mom and dad make the beef noodle soup. However the beef noodle soup at 19 gold did the trick. The meat was tender and the noodles cooked to perfection. I would've liked a spicier broth but that's just preference and I wish they added more veggies it was just one stalk(?) of bokchoy. The sides/apps I got were the the garlic string beans and I forgot but some sort of sliced meat. Both were good, both were a little under seasoned for me. But I just moved from San Antonio where everything is probably over seasoned. The service was quick and the food came out quickly too. Overall I'd come again. Especially when I miss home. read more
This review is specifically for the boba served at 19 Gold, which, for a shop that doesn't specialize in boba, is very good. Double Roasted Japanese Milk Tea, 35% Sweet, Less Ice w/ Boba ($5.45) - The drink has quite a bit of body from the creamer, which also helps to blend with and perhaps even cover up some of the roasty notes of the tea. I assume they use hojicha, but it's a bit difficult to tell given how mild the flavor is on top of the creamer. Still, it's a very pleasant sip and at 35%, the sweetness is right at that not-too-sweet level. The boba here is very good, bordering on great, with a nice chew and bounce. The pearls are smooth with just the slightest bit of sweetness, all similarly sized and easy to suck up the straw. Milk Tea Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 4.5/5 M5, Malatang Dumpling, Rich Broth, Mild ($13.95) - I will refrain from rating this dish since I don't really like malatang all that much, but given that it is the signature dish of this restaurant (and highly recommend on reddit), I had to try it out at least. This dish comes with seven dumplings in a broth that feels very rich and luxurious. The broth is emulsified akin to a unctuous, silky tonkotsu broth. The dumpling skin is thin, encasing a mixture of pork and cabbage, with the pork being quite smooth without any gristle or tough bits. Only seven dumplings makes dish a bit small and probably not enough food to satiate someone with a regular appetite. It certainly didn't fill me up at least! I also tried a bit of the M1 Chicken House Special Malatang, with the original broth, spice level mild. I don't think this dish works at all on mild; it needs to be at least spicy to increase the flavor to a good level, otherwise it's kind of bland. My wife thinks that bell peppers are spicy and couldn't detect any spice in this dish, so that's saying something. The food served at 19 Gold didn't really improve my opinion of malatang in the US, but hey, that's why I didn't include them in my rating. We came the day after Christmas, which was still a weekday, but the lady working said it's a holiday, so there's no happy hour that day. That didn't make sense to me because every other restaurant in Fremont with happy hour was honoring theirs that same day. I feel like the rejected weekdays should be listed somewhere on the website or printed on their online happy hour menu with an asterisk that says not valid on holidays and the day after holidays. I'm curious if going one day later would have made a difference, or they're just being stingy. I was planning on ordering multiple items off the happy hour menu, so that's too bad. There was only one person working outside the kitchen, but I'm not sure if that's how it usually is. The space is very small with tight seating and fills up quickly, especially when there's groups of more than 2 people. I ended up getting the malatang soup dumplings, since I decided to get happy hour elsewhere later. The dumplings don't come with rice or noodles. I was able to customize the spiciness level, so mine was the perfect amount. Mild is just a little spicy. The dumplings (8) were fine, but some had already broken before I could take a bite, so they were either overcooked and/or the skin is too thin. I also tried the seafood lover malatang with olen broth. The olen broth is slightly sweet and tastes better to me than the malatang broth, but both are good. The shrimp were a good size, but messy to deal with. The seafood lover malatang's vermicelli came in a tiny bowl and took up less than half of it. read more

Yummy dishes! The chicken was crispy, the soup was spicy, the milk tea was not too sweet. Though a bit of a wait to get in it was well worth it. Lots of options and my vegetarian friend was able to eat here no problem. read more
10/10 I would come back here, just need to start off with that. This place killed every aspect of it and we came by here during Solstice. We waited probably about 20 minutes for a table which somehow looked like a shorter wait than most other places in the area. The restaurant is small offering a small amount of seating, but is very cozy. Our server was amazing, came by multiple times checking if we needed anything, and frequently filling our waters. We ordered a variety of items off the menu. Our favorite was the chopped pork over rice(we ordered a second one because it was so good!). The string beans we almost didn't order, but thankfully we added it. Both very savory. The only mistake I made was ordering the honey pineapple prawns to start off with, which I would suggest ordering but order it last. It's packed full of flavor, but is sweet like a dessert. The cold pineapple was different in a hot dish, but I think that's what I liked most about it! The fried dumplings are everything we hoped they would be and note that the Gold wings are sweet, I was hoping for spicy, but they were still fantastic. I don't usually frequent Fremont, but if we are down here again we will definitely stop by as for some strange reason we skipped the ramen which looked delicious passing by us. Love this place! The food is great, prices are reasonable, and the staff is really attentive. The restaurant is a bit on the smaller side, so sometimes you might have to wait, but it's usually not too bad. I've tried the green onion pancake, minced pork over rice, beef noodle soup, and the malatang -- all are delicious and I've heard good things about their drinks as well. My favorite is their beef noodle soup! Would definitely recommend! read more

Over the past two years, I've eaten at 19 Gold twice and have gotten takeout from here twice. It's a cute, small place and I thought it was a solid place for tasty Taiwanese food. In the past, I would have given it 4/5 stars (the popcorn chicken is great as well as the brown sugar boba and the minced pork over rice), but my recent dine in experience left me dropping my opinion to 2/3 stars. When I dined in two months ago, the Beef Noddle soup was too spicy for me. I was hungry so I ate it without complaining. But my lips were burning when I left. So when I returned this month, I ordered the same dish and said I wanted it non-spicy. The waiter said it wasn't spicy. I said it was. He kept man-splaining that it must have been because I added condiments. I did not and told him so. When I got my beef noodles, it was indeed spicy. Took a while to flag down a waiter. He took it back and after a long wait, I got another beef noodle. Again it was spicy. Not only that, but there were only three very small, gristly pieces of beef. Very disappointed and sent it back and asked to have it taken off our bill, but a different waiter said he would need to talk to the manager. I am Taiwanese American and I have had Beef Noodle Soup at home, with my family, out in restaurants all over the West Coast and in Taiwan for 40+ years, and this traditional dish is not spicy. At 19 Gold, making the beef spicy and then adding it to the savory broth makes the whole dish spicy. It took so long to get our bill that when we finished the rest of our food, we walked to the front desk to pay. It was a very busy night. At that point, the second waiter apologized for the beef noodle soup and took it off our bill. He was polite and gracious and I appreciated his apology more than our first waiter who simply would not listen to me. I want to support this Taiwanese restaurant that has served me good food in the past, but this experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth...in more ways than one. I visited 19 Gold once before back in 2019. This time I brought three other people with me that had never been before! We were craving for something hot and soupy since it's been getting chilly. We visited on Sunday right when they opened at 11AM. It's a pretty cozy little restaurant located in Fremont. The table aren't that big and there is limited spacing inside. So, I wouldn't bring large groups here. Maybe no more than four people. I ordered the 19 Gold Fries for our group to share. These are fries with popcorn chicken and the house sauce (combination of ketchup, condense milk, honey mustard). The fries were fresh and crispy, but way TOO salty. The sauces helped with the saltiness. The popcorn chicken wasn't as salty though, which was good. Then ordered the Meat Lover Malatang for myself. I choose beef with the original malatang broth and side of plain rice. Inside the Meat Lover Malatang is has cabbage, bean sprouts, broccoli, lotus root, tofu, tofu skin, enoki mushroom, quail eggs, kelp knot, potato corn, crab meat stick, lobster ball, fish ball, and fish tofu. I really enjoyed this dish. It reminded me of Boiling Point minus the constant boiling soup. The service was good. They helped clarify some questions we had about ordering since we weren't familiar with their menu. Also, if you pay using Venmo, or cash you get a 5% discount off your total bill! read more

Food here is pretty decent. Malatang has flavorful soup and feels comforting in cold weather. Popcorn chicken and green onion pancake were tasty too. Service was fast and friendly, though checking in was a bit too frequent and felt a little disrupting in our conversation. Ambiance is cozy and intimate. A bit hard to get free parking.
