I wish my kimchi toast had more egg on it but that would be my only complaint. The pork belly had great flavor and the bread was very good for both dishes. I also got an iced matcha latte and it was nice and refreshing. It wasn't sweet, which I like. I wouldn't come here if you were starving by the way. I simply love this place, the guy who runs it is awesome, and the quality of their food and beverage is very high: they have Balthazar's pastry and Kobrick coffee beans, but the best things you can order are those they prepare in-house: my favorite breakfast is their bagel egg, avo & cheese with their signature sauce that makes it slightly spicy (photo below) and their unsweetened macha latte (in the other photo). Love this little cafe! I'm on a never-ending search for a great coffee shop and workspace that also serves hot dishes. My pork belly sandwich was incredible and my hot chai latte hit the spot. I think I stayed here for like three hours and the time flew by because it was such as nice, relaxing writing environment. A gem of a spot out in East Williamsburg. I consider myself a breakfast sandwich connoisseur of sorts, always exploring around for new places to try. 19 Cafe has, hands down, the best breakfast sandwich in all NYC. C&B cafe in the East Village is a close second. Though sometimes the food takes a while to get out, it's likely due to the attentive detail they put into each item. They don't short you on bacon or avocado (if you choose to add it). Jason, who I believe is the owner, is incredibly friendly and has a true sense of genuine and accommodating service. After being to several coffee shops in New York, this is one is by far my favorite one. Being a very picky person in almost everything.... I fuss about the temperature of my coffee, the taste, and everything that could go wrong with it. When I first visited, there was a couple who was talking about how they have moved out of town and were in town for a weekend and how they had to stop by because they miss the coffee and coffee from here. That was a good sign. Then I asked for a coffee and I had one of the best cups I hadn't had in a while. I've had chai and macha tea and they've both been very very good. Speaking of the food, it is incredibly tasty and filing (I've always gotten breakfast food no matter what time) and shockingly not as overpriced as the usual New York prices. Since I discovered this little peace of heaven, I've been coming here every single weekend (sitting here as I'm speaking) for a good cup of coffee and breakky and I don't live close by, I'm a 15 minute walk away with lots of other coffee shops around me. Such a weakened treat after drinking overpriced and not so good coffees in Manhattan all week. The owner, Jason is a very sweet and friendly guy and so is al his staff. Wow this place was so good. From the outside it looks like a normal coffee shop, but it's the best breakfast I've had since being here. I got the pumpkin spiced latte and it was perfect. I was introduced to 19 Café by a beautiful young woman with the testimony of a great iced coffee about two months ago. But on that day I decided to also try their kimchi rice with chicken. That is some of the best rice I have ever had and have eaten that meal 1 to 3 times a week since the first visit. While they have a pretty interesting menu, I've only ever had their coffee, but the atmosphere is what makes this place such a gem. A great place to get some work done on your laptop, it's small but never too crowded, the music is really nice - never that "coffee shop bossa nova pop remix" stuff, they have free wi-fi, and the staff is very friendly. I've been to a lot of places (especially in Brooklyn), where the staff is just "hanging out" because it's slow and/or they're complacent, and inevitably the service suffers as a result. That's not the case here! Every time I've been they seem to be enjoying one another but they're also attentive to their patrons; it's a great energy to be around. I've heard wonderful things about their Korean fare too, but I've never tried any of it because it just seems so incongruous with coffee and pastries. Maybe I'll try some udon soon! They serve Kobrick Coffee which is some of the BEST COFFEE I've had, and their matcha lattes are pretty great. I ordered a sweetened iced latte and they used a mixer to make it. Coffee mixology! The result is the perfect latte that's evenly sweetened with raw sugar, with the sugar added in with the espresso so it melts into the drink. Bakery items are from Balthazar. (read: delicious) When lunchtime rolls around, they serve Asian-inspired dishes including ramen and kimchi combos, which I've yet to try. I had the fried rice + omelette w/marinated beef: so good! The beef is thinly sliced and gives so much flavor to the dish. Great textures, great flavor, great presentation. Free + reliable wifi. Limited seating and outlets though, but a lot of people come and go and even then it never feels like there are too many people getting in your business. The owner and baristas are very warm and welcoming and on-point with their customer service. They take such great care of you and the place is always clean. The coffee is mediocre. Don't expect the brew to be of the same caliber as the other cafes in Williamsburg. Even a newcomer, Mountain Province, only a few blocks away, serves a better cup. There are too many good to great cups in Williamsburg and too many almost famous roasters sold for this one to exist on a heritage name(?). The drip was average and the cappuccino was way too mild/milky. In addition to the coffee, the menu lists food items from at least 3 different Asian countries (Viet sandwiches, kimchi fried rice, gyoza, Udon). It is apparently going with "Japanese" as a genre on Yelp. Are you confused or does it all taste the same? I'm fighting my "sensitivities" here and not commenting on this tone deaf approach because maybe he just came back from spending 6 years in Asia without Internet and doesn't realize that this has been done and never been done well. But I will say given the display of sad looking pastries and mediocre coffee, I doubt any of it will exceed the very low expectations that the menu deserves. The place needs some major branding help, which obviously is not a factor in my rating but a gratuitous tip for survival in poser Williamsburg. Reminds me of Astor Row Cafe, which also has a 4 star rating but 2 stars from me. 19 Cafe is one of those places that I really want to love. Like really, really. The Cafe itself is located in a neighborhood thats adding some new shops and restaurants but isnt quite there yet. One of the reasons I wish to love it. I strolled in on a Sunday afternoon and got myself an espresso. We came back the next day and sat to have some food. It was rainy, we were the only ones there. Looking at the menu, we decided to pig out. I ordered the pork belly paris sandwich, corn chowder, the SO ordered the udon with chicken; we wanted calamari to start. Guy calls, same guy that pulled the amazing shot, think he must be the owner....anyways he asks whether or not we want gyoza instead of calamari. He recommends the gyoza saying they are very good. No problem gyoza it up. He brings out the soup. But wasnt corn chowder, was clam chowder...must have been some miscommunication there. Fine. Whatever, excusable, i am easy. Wait though...the chowder is not home made. Its from a can and the microwaved. I'm pretty sure campbells chunky. I know my canned chowders...disappointing definitely. I mean, order it and check out the potatoes. They're mushy and perfectly squared. Fine...I mean who expects gourmet chowder at a cafe two blocks away from the PJs in BK. So the gyoza....I have a strong feeling that they are also bagged. Ajinimoto brand maybe? Quite good but...I've had that flavor before and it came from a bag. Okay so paris sandwich pork belly. The bread itself was a wheat baguette-ish deal and the pork belly was pretty okay. The bread was toasted and crunchy so made it alright. It came with pickled daikons and carrots. It tasted almost like a banh mi and made me want to actually have a banh mi... now the SOs udon. the chicken was heavily peppered and i am guessing the same chicken used for their chicken paris sandwich. the noodles itself were overcooked and fat from soaking up too much broth. Look. the space of 19 cafe, the way its decorated. the attention to each detail. is a work of love. i appreciate that. the shot of espresso pulled was a good shot. the food however was not what i wanted. why 4-stars? because the place is the closest 'good' coffee spot we have and needs to stay open. you can tell the owner really tries very hard and that deserves some support. however, please tighten up those dishes as im sure you can provide a better meal. read more

What a good place to relax on a rainy day, the workers are super nice, they offer many variety of Asian food mixed with some American style. They have many variety of drinks and pastries ! Such as espressos or fresh croissants and cinnamon buns. There is complimentary free wifi and overall it's right across where I live so coming here is very convenient. South Williamsburg strikes again on community oriented mom and pops. 19 Cafe is an exemplary shop that characterizes the charm, localization and hard working manor of Brooklynites. Here you'll see neighbors pop in just to share how their day went, the elderly sitting outside with the owner clinking to a tall bottle of Coke, and children after school picking up 19's delicious cookies with a discount on yesterday's pastries. I was swoon by the space and the eclectic menu on my first visit -- precursor that you'll get world food here...ramen, croissants, bacon egg sandwiches, avo toasts, matcha you name it (and girl scout cookies when they're in season!!). We had had a terrible morning looking for parking and stopped here as a last-minute breakfast. Such a surprise and relief. It was a bit of a wait, but totally worth it. You can tell that 19 Café is a personal project. From the design magazines that have been carefully placed at the communal tables to the electric mix of Japanese, Chinese and Korean art on the walls, everything was clearly done with care. I imagine the owner obsessing about the light fixtures for days, picking out the perfect filament to match the overall aesthetic. The location is ambitious, on a block of Manhattan that faces a public housing project. Don Pedro has been a successful club here, but otherwise it's still mostly storefront churches and residential buildings. There's much less foot traffic than on Graham Avenue, and this is still three blocks from the J at Lorimer. Even tougher is that one of the few businesses in the immediate area is ANOTHER Japanese coffee shop, the Brooklyn Ball Factory. While they may seem superficially similar, while the Ball Factory seems designed to be featured in a design catalog or perhaps a Madlibs for creating a certain kind of cosmopolitan blog post (enjoy meatball sandwich bento boxes on brushed metal stools), 19 Café seems more earnest and less outwardly self-conscious. I'm no coffee drinker, but the tea - from Germany and a series of custom blends - was clearly chosen for taste rather than popularity. The food has the same vibe and a focus what can be executed well in the space. Things are nominally Japanese and unafraid of including some classics in with the experiments. The gyoza was lightly fried and then exquisitely plated with a splatter painting of sriacha and a crown of vinegar. A Peking duck bun came with expertly fine slices of scallion and a generous portion of crispy meat inside. These were in total $9, a very fair price considering the quality and that cafés generally traffic in stale, tasteless hunks of starch. I'm now looking to the future. First there are the stranger parts of the menu to try - kimchi fries, something called a 'pairs sandwich,' a series of all-day toasts that appear to be a Japanese take on smørrebrød - and the owner's promise of a more ambitious menu to come. This place unfortunately closes at 7 pm on weeknights, which means that I'm going to be forced to keep these explorations to the weekends. Expand hours if possible! read more

I really enjoyed my visit last week at 19 Cafe, charming little place with a quite ambiance for an evening snack. I ordered the chicken Ramen soup and my girlfriend had the pork belly Soba noodle soup,it was good but the soba soup had a little extra salt. We also had the Paris Chicken sandwich wich I really enjoyed.This sandwich is pretty close to a banh mi and a great alternative for a healthy eats. As for my drink, I had an ice tea which was a little bitter the tea bag was in a little too long. Overall I enjoyed the Ramen and Paris sandwich and would return to try the fried rice. read more

Food. Poisoning. Both my roommate and I went here last night and shared some kimchi fries. We thought they treated interesting but weren't blown away by them. However, about an hour after we got home, we both started feeling weird and our stomachs were not cooperating. On our trip to NY my husband and I found this cafe tucked away near our hostel. It was immediately warm and cosy and clear that most of the people there were repeat costumers as they talked with the cashier Jason. He was very kind and helpful on our first visit, and as we continued to go for breakfast everyday always maintained those qualities.
