My friend and I had the pleasure of dining here, and from the moment we walked in, the vibe was spot-on: super cool atmosphere, somewhere between "hip date night" and "I could happily live here." Our server, Tony, deserves his own fan club. He was the perfect combination of kind, attentive, and genuinely funny--the type of person who could probably convince you to order a shoe if it came with the chef's balsamic reduction. Speaking of which, I had the filet medallions with said reduction, and let me just say: if I could marry a sauce, this would be "the one." My friend ordered the scallops with risotto, and she ate every last grain of rice like she was guarding treasure. Special shoutout to Matt, the manager, who went above and beyond to accommodate my many food allergies without making me feel like "that" customer. Enjoyed our brunch here! Walked in around 11:45am on Mother's Day and they were able to seat us right away at a high top in the bar area (no reservation). Our waiter was super friendly and quick! He brought out water and took our drink orders. I had the Patron Saint and it was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend. The rest of my party had a tequila sunrise, aperol spritz, and the coffee stout and all were great We had brunch and all of the dishes were so good. I enjoyed the French omelette and the dressing on the side salad was probably my favorite part! My mom loved the smash burger and the waffle fries were amazing and crunchy. My dad enjoyed the country fried steak with egg and also liked the fries. My brother ordered the best out of all of us! The shakshouka was to die for! Definitely give that a try if you have a chance. We had an absolutely fantastic dinner at 1808 on Good Friday! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and perfect for both a cozy date night or a special family occasion. We started with the roasted cauliflower paired with a smooth crème fraîche sauce--simple, yet elevated--and the 1808 house salad, which was fresh and well-balanced. For mains, the 16 oz ribeye cooked medium rare was a standout--juicy, tender, and full of flavor, especially with the balsamic and bacon sauce drizzled on top. The 14 oz Berkshire bone-in pork chop was equally impressive, clearly a quality cut and expertly prepared. Our sides, roasted Brussels sprouts and the artichoke cauliflower au gratin, were both delicious and complemented the mains perfectly. The food came out quickly, and our waiter, Noah, was a true professional--friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful as we navigated the menu. He made the experience even more enjoyable. Bottom Line: Wow There's really not much more that I can say that hasn't already been said. I do think it's weird aka wrong to charge for bread. That being said - it's a great presentation and pretty delicious. The Shrimp and Grits is absolutely lick the bowl worthy . The Short ribs were very good. Delicious sauce over the potatoes. Fork tender beef. Love the extensive beer collection and the fact that they were knowledgeable about the options. This is a perfect date night option. Upscale, delicious food options. This is an excellent restaurant in most ways. The service was outstanding, and the food was very good. The ambiance is nice. The roasted cauliflower appetizer was very good -- the harrisa gives it a real kick so be careful about that :), if you are spice averse. I really liked their cocktails. For the main dish, I wanted to get their 48-hour short-rib but they had run out. So instead, I got their chicken special which was delicious as well. Great spot in Delaware for a quality meal. We made an Open Table Rez at 5:45 on a Saturday night, it fit our schedule. Good thing we did because walk-ins had to wait a long time. By the time we left at 7, the large restaurant was full. Nice service. I think the entire staff are college students. No problem there, just that they are short on their menu knowledge and food in general. But service was steady and not intrusive. Nice beer menu. Nice spirits menu too. Our two top had a Caesar with grilled chicken and Miso Salmon (very unique and tasty). The anchovies on the Caesar were white, my least favorite. The salad needed a salty brown version instead of pickled. Moderate pricing. We'd come back when we are in the area! read more

I've been to 1808 several times and always enjoy it. This most recent time was... decent. I'm vegetarian and gluten-free, and when I ordered the brussels sprouts (marked "gluten free" on the menu), the server told me it was actually put in the fryer where it becomes cross-contaminated with gluten. Why was it marked gf? I ordered the house salad (great value, taste and size!) with asparagus (cooked perfectly!) instead, but my options were limited. For our appetizer we got the cauliflower, which I realized may have also been put in the fryer to crisp, because of how I felt afterward. But the server didn't warn me so I could be mistaken. The rest of my group enjoyed their food but had a few minor requests that the kitchen would not do (substitute feta for gorgonzola). I always enjoy the ambiance and service, but it seems like the kitchen felt a little snobby on my last visit. read more

Unfortunately this isn't a good review; I came here before a show and the hostess greeted me and seated me, and gave me drink menus but not food. 15 minutes later the waitress came and was confused why I wasn't given a food menu, then I got one. She said she'll be back in 1-2 minutes, another 15+ passed and no one ever came back. I had to just leave and didn't get to order anything and this place ruined my whole day. No one was impolite it was just the worst service. read more

Our server gal was nice, answered our questions about the menu and gave personal recommendations (always a a huge plus for any quality server, imo). Being just after 12, the place was not completely full, which I wasn't expecting due to the rave reviews about this place. I decided to get their Pea hummus (!!) and later ordered the Smoked Pork Hash to take home for another meal. The pea hummus was delicious. Not too thick, but not runny, either; perfect consistency. I was very surprised how crisp and flavorful the peeled carrots were, and the savory to sweet ratio was great. If I found something like this pea spread closer to home, you betcha bottom dollar it's worth a try. I had my has for dinner, and was rather disappointed in the scant amount of pork it had. My friend got it to eat at the restaurant, and hers was Chuck full of pieces. Apparently, they must have overindulged her bowl, forgetting that my order was yet to be made. The salsa verde is not hot at all (yay!), and gave a good background flavor. I don't make it to Delaware often, but when I do, I always love trying quality food. Will I keep 1808 on my bookmarks? My friends and I came here for the first time a few months ago. They had their greenhouses up outside and we were able to make a reservation to eat in one. I recommend not booking one on a really hot day because we were really hot, but otherwise, it was so cool! Our server was fantastic and offered us 2 free desserts for our birthdays! There was not a lot of seating due to Covid, but we went on a non busy day and we had reservations. There's parking available around the area as well! We got a few different dishes and all of them were delicious! Every dish was flavorful and made very well. The beef carpaccio, 48 hour short rib, salmon filet, filet medallions, and risotto were fantastic and so delicious. The meats were tender and juicy, risotto was flavorful, and the salmon was cooked very well! I think the portions could have been a bit bigger for the price, we spent about $150 for 4 people minus desserts, but it was very good! We got whiskey bread pudding and New Orleans beignets and they were absolutely delicious. The beignets were unexpected because they were light and flakey and drizzled with honey and powdered sugar. The latte that the beignets came with was a good bitter balance to the sweet pastries. The bread pudding was also very sweet, but delicious! Great location for sit down dinner, if you are looking for a looking more upscale and quiet dinner. Menu items range from $20-$45 per entree. Easy access and parking in downtown Delaware across from their local theatre. Great bar service, great bourbon options, drafts, and staff. Kaycie was our server and was very helpful and attentive. Grab a table or sit at the bar. We did table service tonight, but want to go back and just try a drink at the bar. Our group did Shrimp and Grits, Filet Medallions, Short Ribs with starter Salads. After dinner drinks review...delightful! One of the best cocktails I have ever had. It was a "white winter margarita" which was on the special winter cocktails menu. It was the love child of a margarita and a pina colada. I was transported to Margaritaville on a freezing cold night in Delaware. Had a great lime and coconut flavor without being too sweet. Great atmosphere and bartenders were so friendly. Will come back for bar snacks (cheese curds!) and drinks again for sure. read more

This was a tough one to rate. My husband's experience was a 3 while mine was a 5. We started with bread service which was very simple but great. The baguette was crusty outside warm and tender inside while the butter was herby and slightly sweet. The salmon I had was truly excellent. Not only was it perfectly prepared and seasoned but the "turnip chowder" which sounded interesting was divine. My husband tried the soup of the day and medallions which were both just okay. We had made a reservation, which I highly would recommend as 1808 does get busy. This will be our only visit to 1808 as the service was the worst we've encountered in quite sometime. We arrived on time and were shown to our table by the window facing Winter Street. I am thinking this is going to be a wonderful experience based upon the initial ambience. Not so much! We were not acknowledged by our waiter, Gordon for over ten minutes. Had I not made partial eye contact the clock may still be ticking. Gordon said he'd be right with us and scurried away. A few minutes later he returns and asked if we wanted to order drinks as Happy Hour ends at 7:00pm. The beer list he stated on the left side of the menu was half off. I ordered a cider from that side of the menu and was charged full price. We asked for an order of deviled eggs while we waited for our friends and he put in for two orders. Never did he bring water as we requested. The water was given to us after our drinks came from the bar by who may have been the manager. Food: Burger was undercooked - came out medium rare instead of medium Short Ribs were on the dryer side Tenderlion medallions - one cooked as ordered at medium temperature the other cooked rare instead of medium rare. We were upcharged on a salad which was supposed to be substituted for mashed potatoes. It is ok to upcharge if it's communicated. Calamari was amazing Deviled eggs were small yet ok We spent over $180 for the four of us and it was the biggest disappointment. Hindsight is 20/20 and we will not return. read more

The service was very attentive and the decor was fun. Beef carpaccio was probably the best that I've ever had! I had the shrimp and grits which was perfectly cooked and the heat was just right. The breakfast fried rice was a surprise on the menu but... turned out to be super yummerz! The grilled cheese sounded really good, and it was, but.. the portion size wasn't super great. The service was a tad slow, but ... the hostess did say that they didn't think it would be as busy as it was and they only had two waitresses on staff Overall, loved the menu items, the drinks and the atmosphere. read more

The food quality last evening was poor, as was the customer service. Three of our four person group ordered the Beef Stroganoff and all three of us were disappointed. The dish lacked the rich sauce that is typical of this dish. The beef was not braised to the point of being tender. Each of the three were very inconsistently portioned, including one that was easily 70-80% fat. I would have never served it to a guest in my home. The staff were argumentative when we brought it to their attention and stated "it is supposed to have some fat". Well, their definition of "some" fat is different than most people would accept. The end result was that they discounted the dish by 50%, so it ended up being a $14 plate of dry, under-flavored pasta. I can't see us coming back in the future, despite having had better experiences in the past. Any restaurant can have an occasional "off" day with food preparation, but to compound it with poor service is unacceptable. read more

1808 is worth the drive north to Delaware, we ate there last Wednesday. The food is really exceptional with several vegetarian options (I will dream about that mushroom casarecce) and our server was a nice young man, we are basically bff's now. There is a parking lot with meters next door (free on nights/weekends/holidays), which is a great convenience in downtown. There was also live music and that guy was really talented and not too loud, we were still able to converse. If the booker for the venue is listening, I'm sorry I didn't catch the young man's name but you should hire him for every night. Overall, it's a 5 star experience although the seating situation was a bit lacking. Apparently, if you don't have reservations they will seat you in the bar area only. Our lack of reservations (which seemed unnecessary on a weeknight) appeared to cause some consternation at the door. The seats and table we got after some confusion were also not sized correctly for the space and were uncomfortable enough that I was kind of eager to finish eating and hit the road. read more

My now wife and I have been dining here for nearly a decade - long before we moved to Delaware. For a date night, special occasion, or just a good cocktail, few places compete with 1808 in Delaware county. Menu staples like filet medallions and shrimp and grits are always fantastic, but my favorite part is the constantly changing parts of the menu with new seasonal items. There's always a new dish I want to try. Can't beat the whiskey bread pudding for dessert either. I was really looking forward to going out to dinner since it's been a long time. If you're COVID conscious, this will not be the place for you. We had a reservation and arrived on time, our table was still dirty with dishes. 10 minutes later someone came to take the glasses and dishes. No one ever came to sanitize the table, I had to ask. Right away I didn't feel comfortable. The server was wonderful. I ordered a drink and the glass smelt so much like perfume or hand lotion, I had to return it. Then my chicken in my salad was so dry, I could barely get it down which I would never complain about. It is just what it is sometimes, but then I found a big piece of plastic in my salad. They gave us a discount (half off) because of the foreign object. I've worked at many restaurants over the years, from fine dining to steak houses, if a foreign object is found in your food usually a manager will come visit the table and comp the meal. I don't care about the money, more so that this didn't seem like such a big deal. Needless to say, I just moved to the area and I will never return here in fear of choking and COVID. read more

1808 American Bistro is a great restaurant in Delaware opened by the same owner of Speck in Columbus. The quality of the fare is top notch and the setting is comfortable. I had the braised beef lasagna with burrata which was rich and delicious. My wife had the fish special which was a little salty, but very good. My only gripe was we were seated by a very loud ice station in a pretty empty restaurant. We had reservations, so I'm not sure why this happened but our server was exceptional, which made up for it. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 27th anniversary at 1808...hadn't been in to eat for a year plus! Bread service very good; fresh baked, brushed with oil and covered in Parmesan. Salmon was moist and flaky but with a crispy "cap"...filet medallions melt in your mouth. Finished the meal with creme brûlée...wonderful with fresh berries and real whipped cream! A must visit if you're in Delaware--and if you can get one of the outdoor greenhouses, even better! Each greenhouse is has its own heater, air purifier, and Bluetooth enabled speakers. It was a really fun experience and very cozy inside. The food was also a hit! I was disappointed that the short ribs were unavailable, but the scallop and pasta were delicious. The scallops were large and very fresh. The seasonal(?) pumpkin/squash sauce was also very tasty and had a bit of sweet creaminess that contrasted nicely with the salty scallops. The one thing I would skip next time is the bread appetizer. It definitely looked very impressive on the table but it's served cold. read more
