Unfortunately, that wasn't how things turned out. It took our waitress at least 10-15 minutes to come to our table to see if we wanted drinks. When she did arrive, she was very nice. I ordered a Moscato, and my husband ordered a Michelob Ultra. Since we had already had plenty of time to look over the menu, we placed our dinner order at the same time. A few minutes later, our waitress returned to tell me that they were out of Moscato. I have to admit, I found that pretty surprising. This was a Saturday evening, and I would expect a restaurant and bar to be well stocked heading into a busy weekend night. My husband had also ordered soup before his meal. Interestingly enough, his soup arrived before his beer did. I'm still not quite sure how a bowl of soup made it to the table faster than a draft beer. When our entrées finally arrived, neither of us was particularly impressed. The food wasn't terrible, but it was average at best and certainly didn't make up for the rest of the experience. We finished our meals, paid our bill, and left. Between the slow service, the bar not being properly stocked, the unusual delay in getting a simple drink, and food that was nothing more than average, there simply wasn't anything about our experience that would give us a reason to return. Unfortunately, Killarney's will not be a place we revisit.

Their beer list was short and mostly macro, but they had a rotating craft IPA (Fiddlehead IPA on my visit). The room we sat in was covered with retro signs on the walls and a couple of TV's with sports playing. The waitress recommended a bar pie with sausage and their cheesesteak. My son and I split both. The bar pie was sizeable, fresh and had a wonderful snappy crust. The chunked tomato sauce was good, but could have used a little more flavor, cheese was fresh and had just the right amount. The small chunks of sweet sausage were delicious. As for the cheesesteak, well the roll was fresh and the meat was alright, but the quantity of meat was disappointing. I would say it's just about average if that, but the bar pie made up for it. I'd give JoJo's the clear edge on Pete's bar pie, but honestly I liked the ambiance and older feel of the tavern at Pete's. If I lived in this area Pete's would be in the rotation of spots. Thanks guys!!

The latest incarnation is the Mystic Xela Restaurant Sport Bar, or a Mexi/Guat casa where the kitchen, back shelf, staff, and half dozen TVs are all en Espanol. This is a good thing because this place had been boarded up for a long while. Good to see it in motion again. I walked in the side door directly into the bar. A few hombres were sitting around with cerveza and late almuertzo, conversing in hushed tones while a futbol match between France and UAE was on screen. The hostess greeted me with a winning smile and invited me to sit at the bar as she handed me a menu. They specialize in Ceviche and Seafood, but I was not looking to eat fish cooked in lime juice, so I went with the Taco Asada Plate - 3 double wrapped tortillas stuffed with finely cut spicy beef, onion, red and green chili peppers, and two grilled Green Onions and Whole Jalapeno as top garnish. It was plenty hot as presented, but I cut the jalapeno into strips and put them inside the tacos for an extra Wooop. They were good tacos, but so loaded that although rolled tight to pick up, with each bite a bunch slipped out the back. Used a fork to capture the escapees. Much too good to let go to waste. The only downside to the experience was the overall condition of the joint. There is still a lot of work to be done to brighten it up and make for a completely engaging experience. As it was, it was worn out and looked like it had many years ago in its faded glory days. Fix it up and the place will bounce along with the stars.

Years ago I took him to the original Rossi's in Chambersburg after they won WIP radio host Glen Macnow's best burger contest. The place felt smoky and cramped and alive, a beating heart of the local community. So he came back to town and said, Take me to Rossi's. I want that burger again. The new Rossi's is bigger and brighter and very aware of its own legend. The website still shouts proudly about the award winning burger, the kind of pride that lingers long after the parade has packed up and the confetti has been swept into the gutter. The official burger of Polk High. We ordered the famous burger. It arrived on a soft roll, thick and respectable, cooked properly enough. The beef had that loose packed texture that once made it special, a little craggy, a little juicy. It was, in a word, fine. It didn't part the heavens, and it didn't cause my friend to close his eyes and whisper my name in gratitude. It was just a hamburger. The fries were plentiful and hot. There is still a sports bar soul here, sort of. Televisions glow and beer flows, albeit very VERY slowly. The menu stretches wide with wings, sandwiches, steaks, things for people who want something other than beef on a bun. It feels like a place that knows how to feed a crowd after a Little League game or a retirement home on an afternoon outing. The service was friendly in the way a distracted and rarely seen cousin is friendly at Thanksgiving. Smiles, sure. Refills, eventually. Our server moved with the gentle chaos of someone juggling too many plates and not enough time or help. Nothing disastrous happened. Nothing especially polished happened either. We waited, ee watched and we ate. When my friend took a bite,he nodded politely. He said, "It's good." This is not what he said all those years ago in Chambersburg when grease ran down his wrist and he declared it the best burger in the state with the certainty of Biff Tannen with a Sports Almanac in his back pocket. Restaurants age and legends settle into routine. Rossi's feels like it is living comfortably on stories of past glory. There is nothing wrong with the food, but there is nothing thrilling about it either. If you are nearby and hungry, you'll be fed and you'll leave full. If you're chasing a memory, you may just find that memory tastes better than the present.

Kitchen - 4 stars I was a bit apprehensive about eating great seafood at such a run down dive bar. A burger? Sure, but seafood? As many things in the area, you must keep an open mind. We over-ordered thanks to waiting entirely too long to get fodo and thus ordered all of the following: Seafood Mac'n Cheese: So yummy! Should be served in a pretty plate instead of plastic basket to really be enjoyed properly, but really great taste. Fried Scallops: SKIP THIS. I ordered the $9 order and they were so tiny they looked like fried pickles instead of scallops. Crab loaded fries: Also, totally unnecessary to get shredded crab and cheese on fries. It really didn't add much flavor either, so I would pass. Lobster Po'boy: GET THIS! GET TWO OF THESE! This sandwich was soooo amazing. It is served in a perfectly soft roll, crispy giant chunks of lobster, and a fabulous sauce lathered all on top. The thing was as big as my forearm, and only $13. Overall, some good eats, I will definitely be returning, but more for takeout. *************************************************************************************** Bar - 2 star We sat at the bar to grab a drink while we waited and it was an older lady tending to the bar. There was a drink special written on a board, I asked what that was and she plainly said, "I don't know how to make that." Fabulous, maybe taking it off the board would be a good idea, considering the next customer that walked in had the same question. The main difference between a dive bar and run down bar is maintance. Dives might have a few messed up tiles, or a crack in the wall. This bar has every single tile broken, disgusting stuff hanging from the ceiling, broken mirrors lining the walls, and rude service. I get that this is not a place that gets a ton of business, but a few things fixed would do wonders. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is because the pour was great on my drink and they did have lots of vodka options.
