Rat wings may be the best wings I've had in my life. Last time I went I literally acted like a hungry rat in the streets of New York after finding a meal to eat. Not sure if I was dreaming but the wings are heavenly. It felt as if after eating them I gained an understanding of how it feels to be a chicken in an open field, fluttering my wings in the wind over the daisies just as the sun glistens off the morning dew into the eyes above my beak. The hills roll in every direction, food found wherever my chicken heart desires. The flowers of gorgeous color and a field of such vast liberty. Do I dare belch a freedom cluck? Food is fantastic!! Ashley is a sweetheart, but that bartender Dawn is a miserable b#*%h!!!! Never in my life have I been to a place with such a grumpy bartender, she makes it feel as if you are bothering her by being there. I would be pretty pissed if I was the owner. The other bartender, Christine, ignores people unless you are a regular. If you are a guy and also a regular, she will fall all over you. I've never heard of or been to Fieldboro before coming here for Happy hour with a co-worker/friend. I was late as I came from north Jersey. As I entered, I felt like everyone stopped whatever they were doing and stared at me when I opened the door. My friends swear by their rat wings. They're like wings with BBQ sauce with Parmesan cheese. We also got the corn nuggets, and onion rings to go with the wings. The menu is pretty extensive for being a dive bar. The over 40 crowd do like to have fun here. I heard there's a sex toy bingo on a Tuesday or Wednesday. I was pleasantly surprised. I would come back but not for bingo. read more

They have horseshoes across the parking lot in a surprisingly green verdan and pleasant area. Basic bar foods that also include plump juicy, generous fried clam strips, steak night (Thursdays, with fresh ribeye, real deal steaks seared in butter and cooked to taste), sandwiches, hamburgers, fries, wings, Philly steaks, pizza, etc. Pool table in a separate room, bands, drink specials, regulars, and a crowd that ranges from young to old. First time I've ordered food from here, and was looking forward to giving a great review. So why 2 stars? I just reheated the second half of my cheese steak, and found a long, black hair in the middle of the sandwich. I'm a guy with short hair, so zero chance this happened here. It was actually stuck in the middle of the meat and cheese...gross and disappointing. I ordered from Cool Cricket because I was in the mood for some good wings, and saw several reviews raving about the rat wings here. I was a little unsure about Parm cheese in the wing sauce, but it really worked. The wings were large and cooked well....nice crust but not dried out. The sauce worked well, and had loads of garlic which I really liked. I also tried the cheese steak, and subbed out the fries for tater tots. The cheese steak was standard fare for a bar, at least the half that didn't have hair in it. The tots were cooked well and they didn't skimp on the portion. The tots in my order, as well as the onion rings in the other cheese steak ordered, would have been better if not boxed with the sandwich. The steam from the sandwich releases a lot of steam, which lessens the crunch on the fried tots and onion rings. Not sure if they will accommodate the request, but if placing a to go order, possibly request to get your fries or tots in a separate box. Didn't get to try the bar with covid restrictions still in place. Seems like a friendly local dive bar...not pretentious, but the place to go for a beer with friends. If you don't get hair in your food, you might be in for some good food. The hair was pretty disgusting to find in my mouth, so not sure I'll be ordering from them again. I was then approached by a smelly middle aged white guy who was intoxicated to the point where he should not of been getting served. This same guy told me I was sitting in his seats and threatened me with violence all while the bartenders were watching me. Weird because we were sitting there for at least 10 minutes before he walked through the door. We got up and he proceeded to sit in the chair and spread his arms and legs across the other 3. This place obviously does not have high standards but is perfect for someone trying to go out and start a fight for no reason. They should all be ashamed of themselves. I quite literally feared for my life before coming in. but thought I'd give it a chance due to how many recommendations it got. Hard pass. read more

2.5 Stars I'd never heard of Cool Cricket but saw it pop up on my Yelp map and thought, what the heck. It's basically your average bar with not a whole lot to get excited about, although it seems to be a popular local hangout. They serve typical bar fare of burgers, pizza, sandwiches and, surprisingly, bread bowls. The bar has ten taps serving the standard brews and a few televisions, which were broadcasting the afternoon Phillies game. There's also a pool table area near the back. The bartender was great. I asked her about a certain type of wings (Cowboy Wild) and she replied "They suck. They're our worst sellers." She then proceeded to recommend a style that wasn't even on the menu which combined mild buffalo sauce with their garlic parmesan "Bada Bing" sauce. She told me it's a popular style (but not on the menu?), which was concocted by one of the guys at the end of the bar...and I have to agree, they were good. read more

It is a real treat, and absolutely delicious. This is such a great, family run place, owned by Bob who is usually there making sure his customers are well taken care of. His daughter Kristen and her husband Steve are usually behind the bar, and are also some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They have done great things at this establishment, and turned it into a great hangout for the locals. They host a ton of charity events ranging from a local family who's house burned down, to breast cancer function, etc. They are just nice people who really care about the community, and that is hard to find! Kudos to the Cool Cricket Family! It's great to see someone take what was a "seedy place" in its past existence, and turned it into a fun place with good food and a lot of heart. My favorite dive bar in the area with amazing food and great bands on Saturdays.... their wings are soooooo good especially the jack daniels bourbon. Make sure to go for wing night! When I first starting coming a year ago... I told everyone the best meatball parm I ever had was from here! However, last three times have been average. I think they changed the bread and the meatballs as well, which genuinely makes me bummed!!! The meatballs were half the size this past time. I can no longer say they have my favorite meatball parm, however, ill never stop coming here for everything else!!!! Still 5 stars and more. Local townie bar for sure - that's the charm of this place if you ask me. I stopped in tonight with a friend for the 35 cent wing deal & they definitely did not disappoint. My buddy went with the ratt wings (garlic/parmesan) + I went with the regular mild wings. The quality of the chicken is on point & wings turned out really crispy- however I would personally prefer the delicious citrusy-spicy sauce they use to be just abit thicker - but honestly it's not that big of a deal for me either way, cuz they were really good wings! My favorite place hands down in NJ. The live band was amazing and the drinks are on point. The service could be better. Maybe more bartender or just waitresses the wait is too long especially with it being packed out on weekends when there are live shows. Wish I could remember what I ate but I had more drinks than food so o'well. The crowd was 30 and up and more of a rock and roll scene. I definitely enjoyed myself and can't wait to visit again. I visited the Cool Cricket because I heard it was Karoake night, so me ..my boyfriend and another couple stopped in after dinner on a Friday night. What a disappointment!! The Karoake host was so drunk he was slurring his words and had no idea what songs we requested, then said we already sang the song we wanted, which was completely false. Keep in mind, we listened to him sing at least 4 songs throughout the night, if you want to call it singing, more like screaming! It seemed to me he catered to a crowd that looked like regulars and had no regard to new singers. Definitely would not go back for the entertainment factor! Also, for the first time in my life I watched a bartender fill a glass with ice and a mixer of cranberry and then top with the liquor of choice....which was vodka. Wth? Then proceeds to tell me she learned that in bartending school???? And if I didnt want it, ask the other bartender... I'm sorry... but Everyone knows you pour alcohol over ice then add whatever mixer u want . I def would not recommend this place ....the staff is incompetent. read more

The Cricket is a well-kept secret. Great wings, chili,etc. and usually good service. The new chef is incredible. If you want to eat in the dining room, it's a good idea to catch the bartender's eye first, unless you see others in there already. At slow times and especially early dinners, there might not be a dedicated server, but we've never had a problem as long as we let somebody know that's where we'll be sitting. read more

No Stars here. I really don't know how this place is still open. I came here because a friend told me how great the wings were. Being a local, I figured Id give it a shot. When I pulled up in front of the place, my husband and I sat in the car and contemplated even going into the place. It looks absolutely horrid from the outside. My husband joked that hes going to get shanked. I think he was more nervous than I was. So we go inside and the inside matches the outside. Who woulda thought? We said we'll go in, have wings and a couple beers and we are out. The only thing inside the place that was nice was the bartender. We ordered the "rat" wings which I was skeptical about just because eating something referred to as rat in a place like this did not sit well with me. We ate the wings, which were good, but not anything to write home about. Then I'm guessing the "cook" came out to talk to some regulars. He was so dirty and cursing and obviously drunk. This is where it gets bad. From where we were sitting, my husband had to walk past the opening into the bar to get to the bathroom. On the floor was one of those roach sticky pads. It was filled with them. Literally could not fit another roach on the thing. He came right back without going to the bathroom and told me. I wanted to vomit knowing I just ate something in this place. My husband told me he would hold it in until we got home. We asked for our check, paid, and rushed out. I strongly suggest that nobody should ever go to this establishment and I wonder how the board of health lets them serve people food and drink. read more

first of all. it is a typical bar, tends to cater to the over 40 crowd which is fine, yes the karaoke hostess gets a little tipsy, yes the table service needs improvement BUT....... all the food is fresh and made to order and they have by far the best cheesesteaks you will have ate in a long while, there salads are great and apps cannot be beat for the price you pay and the quality of flavor that you get you would pay more at another restaurant for the delicious food this establishment cooks up. They have a pro quoit pits out back with a sand volleyball court with a pavilion. The owner can almost always be spotted actively engaging his cliental in a friendly welcoming way, and not overbearing or pushy like other places. The cool cricket has a real welcoming appeal to it after you give a 4 or more visits, just sit at the bar, try their wings or cheesesteaks and you will have a great experience with not only your tastebuds but your wallet as well. Beer selection is comfortable with a few seasonal brews, but once you try the food you certainly will explore the menu to try and find something to give a negative YELP about. good luck. bring some darts or quarters for pool and enjoy the variety of games going on the many screens. they also have a patio with seating for you smokers out there where you can take your drink. like i said, sit at the bar, order the cheesesteaks or wings first and maybe you'll become the next local! great turnaround on the food management! keep up the consistently awesome food! read more
