We arrived at Old Town Pub on a weekday at that strange and tender hour between the end of work and the beginning of evening, when the sunlight looks tired but not yet ready to quit. There were eight of us, a band of aging birthday revelers, unsure whether we were still young enough to be loud or too old to be noticed. The staff didn't seem to mind either way. They smiled, rearranged some tables upstairs in a corner just for us, and let us take our time as the rest of the party wandered in, one by one, like characters from eight different novels who'd lost their place in the story. The upstairs room was empty when we arrived, echoing pleasantly with the sound of our indecision. By the time we left, it was humming with life. The bartender, whose name I did not catch but whose pour I will remember, mixed me an Apple Jack from the fall cocktail list. I had planned to explore their beer selection, which is said to be quite good, but the apple and Tito's combination called out to me like an old American folk song. It was crisp and strong and made me grateful for my liver's enduring patience. For dinner, I ordered the fish and chips. The fish was good but too greasy, even for a dish whose main promise is grease. The plate looked like an oil field after a minor accident, and the poor chips had to make do with swimming lessons they hadn't asked for. Still, the fish itself was solid and flaky, and I ate most of it while pretending not to notice the puddles. Around the table there were burgers, salads, sandwiches and tacos. Everyone ate. Everyone was fine. No one wept with joy. Our server, though, deserves an entire paragraph. He was the sort of person you wish the world had more of. He was patient, kind, and surprisingly cheerful for someone who had to answer seven variations of "What's good here?" He took special care with our friend who has celiac disease, making several trips to confirm that her meal would be safe. He handled it with both professionalism and genuine concern. It was one of those rare moments when good service feels less like customer care and more like small-scale heroism. We were politely nudged around 7:00 to make way for the trivia crowd, which seemed fair. We had been there for two and a half hours, which in restaurant time is nearly an epoch. On another night, I imagine they would have let us stay longer. We left feeling content, not dazzled, but content counts for a lot these days. Old Town Pub may not be the most extraordinary restaurant in Bordentown, but it has heart. It has history, too, tucked into its walls from the days when it was The Farnsworth House. The renovation in 2017 gave it new life without scrubbing away its past. That balance between old and new feels just right, like the moment between late afternoon and early evening. Four stars for kindness, competence, and cocktails that don't apologize for being cocktails. The fish and chips may have been greasy, but the night itself was not. read more

We got chicken quesadillas, loaded tater tots, roast beef sandwich, some drinks & their peach cobbler. My friends and I decided to do a girls lunch here to catch-up. We came in on a Saturday afternoon around 12 and there was barely anyone seated. Even when we left around 1:30 PM there was probably only five other parties. For my drink I chose the Jimmy Spritz, it was light a refreshing for the hot summer day but barely had any alcohol in it. I was a little hestitant at first ordering a poke bowl at a pub but was pleasantly surprised. The tuna was fresh and the sauces complimented the dish well. The only thing I wish they did was chop the cucumber and peppers into more bitesized pieces as they were a few inches in lenght. Given that the place wasn't that crowded I thought our server would be a little quicker/attentive unless for some reason they were short-staffed. It just took her a little while to check in on us or to bring over the check. Between the three of us all having an entree plus a beverage it averaged out to about $40-$45 pp. A little pricey but the food was good. I may return if I am back in the area. read more

We were recommended to try this place for dinner by the bartender from Subculture Artisan Ales (which is superb). This place was great. Warm and welcoming. The bartender there was super friendly and made a mean old fashioned. I had a burger which was terrific the fries were oh my god amazing. My husband ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich and originally came with cheese (not listed on menu), they immediately made a new one and it was great. We got a great table with that perfect Old Town vibe -- cozy, fun, and super welcoming. This place never disappoints. We kicked things off with the loaded tator tots, fried dumplings, and wings -- honestly the perfect trio of starters. Everything came out hot, crispy, and delicious. For our main sandwiches, every plate hit the mark. No misses, just great food across the board. Took a stroll through the lovely town of Bordentown, NJ a couple weekends ago. We had no intentions of eating in the area but happily stumbled upon Old Town Pub. We were enticed by the availability of outdoor seating. It was shaded with cool music playing. I can't remember our server's name, but she was excellent! Super pleasant and helpful all the way through. The menu is large and there is a vast selection of beers on tap. I ordered the Portabella Mushroom Panini and it didn't disappoint! The bread was toasted perfectly and the mushroom/veggies were seasoned nicely. The fries, however... WOW! I mentioned to the server how I was obsessed with the texture of the fries and she said they were her favorite. I can only describe them as being airy steak fries, if that makes sense. They had a good crunch to them, too. The quality of food and service exceeded my expectations. This is an absolute gem of a restaurant if you're looking for something subtle with reasonable prices. To my great relief and mild astonishment the food here was some of the best I've had in town that doesn't involve a white tablecloth or emotional regret. I ordered a burger, but in a moment of digestive prudence (or cowardice, depending on one's view), I asked to substitute the bun for sourdough. The kitchen obliged without fuss, a small kindness that did not go unnoticed. The result was excellent: hearty, well-seasoned, and reassuringly straightforward. It reminded me, in a comforting way, of my local pub back home in Somerset, though here, the chips are thinner, and no one says "cheers" quite right. The waitress was lovely warm, professional, and attentive without hovering. She seemed genuinely pleased that I was enjoying myself, a rare thing in my brief American travels. The atmosphere struck me as effortlessly convivial, the sort of place where one might catch up with friends, were I the sort of man who had any. The prices were reasonable, and with the current exchange rate mercifully favorable, I even felt a glimmer of fiscal satisfaction, a novelty since leaving England. In sum, Old Town Pub may not be fine dining, but it offers something far rarer: honest food served with good cheer. We were looking for a stop-off for lunch on a long drive to Long Island NY. We got there a little before noon on a Friday, and the place was packed (always a good sign!). Service was great, food was good, and the place had a great "old town" feel. I got the cheesesteak and hubby got a pizza with pepperoni and sausage. I'm a girl from Philly so I'm pretty particular about my cheesesteaks, and this one did not disappoint! It was very meaty and the cheese was melted throughout, way better than others where they just melt some cheese on top. The fries were like wedges, but cut really thin. They weren't my favorite, style, but the cheesesteak was filling enough on its own - i couldn't finish it! Hubby said the pizza was very good "bar pizza". I was in the area and wanted to see what Bordentown had to offer. I didn't want to try a chain restaurant bc I have been to most of them. So, I went to Yelp for some help. My timing was perfect bc they had Happy Hour specials starting at 4. I took a look ar the menu and decided to try the Happy Hour 1/2 order nachos and the turkey burger for my entree. My partner opted for one of the burgers (I can't recall the name). The nachos came out quick. I was glad we got the 1/2 order of chili nachos bc it looked like a full order. Nonetheless, we couldn't wait to try them. I thought the chili needed a little something. The chips, cheese, and jalapeños were tasty. I wish the chili itself was just as tasty. Our burgers arrived at a good time. I was was excited to try my burger. The turkey burger contained a garlic aioli, guacamole, cheese, lettuce tomato and onion. Upon biting the burger, I could literally taste everything except the burger. That mad me sad. If the burger had some flavor it would have been perfectly paired with the flavors I tasted from the other ingredients. I will say the fries were decent. I was really surprised by the burger though. My partner said his burger was okay. He didn't make any additional comments regarding his meal. I think Old Town Pub is a staple for Bordentown as it had a nice early evening crowd on a week night. I ordered the Smashburger, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well-balanced the meat blend was. Definitely juicy, flavorful, and not overly greasy. You can tell they put thought into the cuts they use and not just mashed up low grade meats. Paired it with a beer on tap, which hit the spot without question. I'm bumping OTP up to 5 stars based on our experience last night. On a whim I decided to check out their happy hour on a Friday. I walked in and glanced down the long bar and didn't see a single seat available so we headed up the flight of stairs to sit at the upstairs bar. When I arrived at the top their was a sign stating that the upstairs bar was closed. Perhaps that sign should have been at the bottom of the stairs. Anyway, we did happen to find seats at the far end of the downstairs bar right in front of the new raw bar which showcased oysters and jumbo shrimp. A server came over immediately with a big smile and told us "welcome to the aquarium". She then proceeded to inform us of the menu, the extensive beer list, and the happy hour and took our drink orders. My Stateside martini was made perfectly as was the Hendricks martini. Now it was time to order some food! I wanted to try the wings, and since they were only 75 cents each I decided to try 2 of every flavor. I also ordered a pizza with mushrooms, a dozen oysters, and 6 jumbo shrimp. The oysters and shrimp were just $1 a piece for happy hour. The wings came out first and were absolutely delicious and crisp. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauces with the exception of the classic buffalo but they were all nice sized and cooked perfectly. The oysters and shrimp came next. The oysters were fantastic and super big. The shrimp were also done just right. The pizza is something that OTP does right and I've always enjoyed it here. It's more of a tomato pie with lots of delicious sauce and served piping hot and fresh seconds after it comes out of the oven. Overall, OTP did everything right from the friendly and fast service, to the delicious appetizers and raw bar, and all at fantastic happy hour bargain prices. Oh, and did I mention they have a tap list of 50 beers? As I sat at the bar I watched the servers pass by with some really nice looking plates of steamed clams and also mussels and was thinking about what I would order next when I return to OTP which will certainly be soon. read more

Located in the historic core of downtown Bordentown, Old Town Pub definitely has a lot going for it as a bar/gastropub. This was among several places I had been meaning to try out in Bordentown, so finally made the time to venture out. The place was absolutely packed on a Friday night, and there was a bit of a wait, even with advance reservations made on Resy. They've made great use of the space, with bars and table seating on 2 floors, and a small stage for occasional live music. If you do go for the live music, just be aware that it may not start until late, as it started at 9 PM when I visited. To be honest, the live music wasn't that great from the 2 songs I heard, and much preferred their streaming music which was being played. We were hungry, so skipped past appetizers and went with a chicken pesto sandwich and burger for our meals. The presentation of the food, not just for our meals, but all the food I observed being served was highly impressive, and definitely a step up your typical pub experience. Both meals were tasty and fresh. While I've had better burgers and it wasn't the typical style I like as it was a bit on the dry side, it was of decent quality a notch above what you find at most places in the area. The fries were a flatter variety which I typically don't like, but they were surprisingly good. The onion rings were a disappointment. They looked great on presentation, but were greasy and the breading fell apart, so would avoid getting those in the future. Overall, I'd rate the food in the 3.5-4 out of 5 stars range, but happy to round up since the service was attentive and really friendly. They have an expansive menu, so look forward to returning to Old Town Pub to try out some of their other menu offerings. read more

We had an early dinner at Old Town Pub last evening, which was superb! We started with shrimp cocktail and then on to Filet Mignon that was cooked to perfection. Our server was extraordinary as usual. Owner Michael Scharibone is exacting as to his standards and demonstrated same with checking on us throughout the evening. The "old-timey" feeling of the place is exquisite. We like the bar area, but the upstairs dining area is also a great place to enjoy a meal with the family. We've had some nice memories there in the past (under previous ownership). I feel that Mr. Scharibone has taken this great place and made it fabulous. A cozy pub in the heart of downtown Bordentown. It's two stories and each story has a bar. We came on a day where there was live music which was nice to have. Our server was very cheerful and gave us great recommendations on drinks! My table ordered Sammy's pizza to share. I've never had grilled peaches or fig on my pizza but this was quite refreshing. I ordered the portobello mushroom panini for my entree. The balsamic glaze was too much for me which made the sandwich overwhelmingly sweet. From the outside, the OTP looks like a tiny little establishment but once inside, you realize they've somehow crammed 2-stories of space into the little endcap of a building they lease.
