The coolest thing about Sloc's Bar & Grille is that it is attached to Slocum's Bowl-O-Drome, on Pennington Road, Ewing, N.J. If old school bowling is your thing, then this is a wonderful place to indulge yourself. The lanes are old, but full of families and leagues throwing strikes and spares, while the small tavern down the hall, pours suds from mostly well known national brands, and uses the kitchen in back for better than your average bear's bar grub. The dining area was full of groups playing cards on St. Patrick's Day, with most folks garbed in green. I sipped on my Coor's draft, watching the NBA as I waited for my order of pierogi to be served. The friendly barkeeper was more than happy to change the channel to the game, as nobody else seemed to be interested in the NASCAR race showing on all the screens. Not even the grumpy dude sitting next to me at the bar seemed to mind. I guess there was enough green in my Eagles Super Bowl LII hat to satisfy him. And, those pierogi were as good as advertised. Moderately chewy doughy dumplings stuffed with mashed potatoes and topped with a motherload of sautéed onions. They appeared to have been boiled and then fried in a pan, as the surface was browned and crisp on the surface, and tender within. The plate was heavy on the crude oil, but that added to the overall homestyle flavor. Delicious. Best of all, the prices were reasonable. 8 ounce draft plus decent snack for just over $10., is quite the deal. Although rather old, there did not appear to be any access issues, as everything was on the ground floor with sufficient space for assisted walking or even the private medical chariot.

Iceberg salad with tuna, chicken salad, bacon, cheddar cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes and iceberg lettuce.

A regular stop for me and Arlene. Slocs is a bar that has above average bar food, good soups and a special menu with higher-end dishes. Like "Cheers," everybody knows your name. It has its own cult following by a cast of friendly locals. If you're ever in the Ewing NJ area stop by, have a bite to eat, make a friend or two and write your review.

We ordered a pierogi appetizer to share and some holiday cocktails to start. For entrees we had pork chops that were cooked to perfection and served over a sweet potato purée with a blackberry gastric. We also had the 7 fishes over linguine offered in red, white, hot or hot. I chose red hot. It was delicious with calamari, shrimp, lobster, mussels, clams, and fish. The penne vodka with sausage and peas was also delicious and a generous portion. The salmon dish was also excellent but had barely any risotto and 6 string beans. Overall, Blooming Grove is a favorite of our extended family and we visit fairly often. The only room for improvement is the portion size of some of the dishes in comparison to others.

We spent a bit of time at the bar and found it to be a really fun kind of bar. We highly recommend this lovely historic Inn ....

They recently acquired MD brewery DuClaw as well and continue to brew their beers and distribute under the same name. They distribute widely across NJ, PA, NY so it's pretty easy to find at liquor stores and restaurants, and I've had their beers many times over the years. Their beer is pretty solid with some fun and inventive offerings. My girlfriend and I stopped into their taproom for the first time on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite possibly the worst taproom we've ever been to out of 80+ NJ breweries we have visited together. It looks like they concentrate all of their time and effort on production and distribution and have not spent any time creating a decent place to hang out. Almost no decor. All plastic cups (a personal pet peeve of mine in breweries). Not even a permanent bar of any kind. There were only four other people the whole time we were there so the atmosphere was pretty dead. We ordered flights, and the names of the beers were written in abbreviations right on the cups which made it impossible to read on the darker beers. But the beer was very good! We really enjoyed our flights and bought a six pack of the imperial pumpkin ale to bring home with us. We'll continue to drink their beer, but I don't recommend coming to the taproom at all.

I will stop in on occasion to fill a growler or grab some cans to go but would not want to spend any time here. The hostess was very friendly. She immediately took us to our table. Then our waiter came. She was not friendly at all. It did not seem like she wanted to work there or serve us. We decided to move sections because we wanted to sit near a window since it was so dark in the main dining area. Unfortunately, we got the same server. Also, it was a very hot day and it did not seem like they had the AC on. Weird. The food and drinks were meh. I ordered the peach sangria. It was decent. Not too strong and not too sweet. My dad ordered a Coors Light. They didn't have it on draft so he had to get a cold glass. He enjoyed it. Their cocktail menu was very limited considering they have a full bar. We ordered one appetizer which was the onion soup. For our entree's we ordered the the B2 Bistro Burger, Mustard crusted salmon, and grilled chicken pasta. The French Onion Soup was delicious. Very hot but flavorful. However, it could have used less salt. The Bistro Burger was good. Cooked to perfection and very juicy. The fries were a bit salty but still edible. The Mustard Crusted salmon was meh. The salmon itself wasn't very flavorful. The rice was pretty bland but the green beans were delicious. The grilled chicken pasta was probably the best dish of the evening. It was very flavorful, hot, and cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed that entree. Overall, it was a good experience with minor flaws. I am not sure if I will return but if I do I don't think I will have any major issues. If you are in the area check them out. Cheers!

I passed it on the way to my hotel and immediately decided it was a place I wanted to check out. I'll admit I was a little alarmed when I walked in and realized it was giving neighborhood bar energy instead of the chic bistro vibes is expecting. I happened to arrive during trivia night, and most of the patrons seemed really into it so it was much louder and rowdier than I anticipated. So much for a quiet dinner. I asked the hostess if I could be seated in a booth away from the activity, but even in a less crowded section, the atmosphere remained pretty overstimulating. In addition to the enthusiastic trivia-playing patrons, there were loud, animated conversations among various staff members, music playing from staff member's phone while music was already playing throughout the restaurant, and just a lot of competing noise. After a three-hour drive, I was really hoping for a glass of wine, a nice meal, and a more relaxed environment. That said, the staff were all incredibly friendly and pleasant. You could tell that they genuinely enjoy working there and enjoy each other's company, which made it difficult to be too annoyed. Eventually, I popped in my AirPods and dissociated so that I could focus on enjoying my meal. For dinner, the Chicken Francaise with a glass of the Italian Pinot Grigio (The name escapes me at the moment). The wine paired beautifully with the meal. The chicken itself was a fairly thick cut and cooked perfectly, but it could have used a bit more seasoning. I also would have loved to see some of the risotto sauce drizzled over the chicken because, while the texture was spot on, the flavor was a little underwhelming on its own. The green beans were excellent. Perfectly cooked with just the right amount of crunch and lightly seasoned. But the real star of the show was the Parmesan lemon risotto. That risotto is easily among the top three best risottos I've ever had. The brightness of the lemon combined with the creamy parmesan made for an absolutely unforgettable dish. I was genuinely disappointed that I couldn't finish it because every bite was fantastic. Honestly, I could have ordered a plate of that risotto by itself and left completely satisfied. While the atmosphere wasn't quite what I was looking for, the friendly service and that unforgettable delectable risotto made the visit worthwhile.

The bartenders know what they're doing, and you can tell they care about the experience. Food-wise, this is where they separate themselves from typical happy hour spots. The appetizers aren't just filler--they're restaurant-quality dishes. The calamari is crisp (not greasy), the flatbreads are loaded but balanced, and everything comes out with attention to detail. The atmosphere is a huge win. It's not loud or chaotic--you can actually have a conversation, network, or just decompress after a long shift. Bottom line: Erini's happy hour feels like a hidden gem--elevated, consistent, and worth making part of your weekly routine.
