I was debating between the Chicken-Fried Chicken & the Pork Milanese Marsala so I asked the waitress. She said the pork is one of her faves and it's a big portion. She wasn't kidding. Not only was it a delightful experience for my tastebuds, it covered the entire plate. This was one of the few times I couldn't finish my meal. It probably didn't help that I had an order of their amazing bread and butter. I love the vibe at this spot. They serve top notched meals in a casual environment. I have visited this spot at least 10 times and they don't miss. My wife has the Rye & Gochujang Radiatori. I tasted it and it was delish. I never thought to add gochujang to a pasta dish, but I will be doing that in the future. If you have room for something sweet, end your meal by sharing Brioche Doughnuts. If just reviewing the food, this would be a 5. The beet salad was so unique and artfully crafted, I've never had a beet salad quite like that. Also loved the smash burger -- delicious and no pretentious frills -- but the fries were the standout; homemade, hearty and crispy. The pumpkin and pretzel casarecce pasta was very tasty as well, and the small-sized portion was plenty. Clearly the chef is talented and takes their work seriously. Given that they don't sell liquor & you can bring your own, the prices are fantastic. Cheapest dinner I've had since the early 2000s lol. They do have some N/A wines, beers and cocktails for those who don't care about booze. I could see this place being perfect for breakfast or lunch because it has beautiful views of the river. We came for dinner, and within 20-30 minutes, it was pitch black outside so we didn't get to enjoy the view. The lighting in the restaurant for dinner is too bright, which takes away from the atmosphere and makes it seem more like a takeout restaurant than upscale dining. Our server was great but the food took way too long to come out. It was about 30 minutes to get a salad. Not sure if they were short-staffed or that's just how it is but because the food was good enough, we will definitely come back to find out! read more

Fruit, walnuts if you want, a dash of brown sugar, and a bit of cream that you can add and it's a meal! The atmosphere is perfect with a view of the beautiful Delaware River. Coffee and tea served in really cool mugs. If you have room after breakfast, I'd highly recommend the donut. It's not your regular donut though. Sugared donut with a bit of warm caramel drizzle. We called yesterday and made a reservation with a young girl for breakfast today. We get it all set and she puts us in, we didn't know we needed to get a text for confirmation we assumed we were set and if that were the case the person on the phone would have told us to look out for that. We then come 25 minutes early to our reservation and it's a mad house, no problem we'll have ti wait for our reservation. However there was no reservation, the girl never sent it through and were then told it was going to be about an hour wait. If you have people calling making reservations, actually make sure you put it in cause we drove an hour in total to have breakfast here and ended up going to pretty bird. I highly recommend the coffee and crumb cake from pretty bird! read more

Birthday brunch celebration for 6 on Friday. Excellent! Great choice. Even though I added "birthday" celebration to the reservation...it went un-noticed. Oh well. I had surgery on my knee and was just too afraid to take that scary elevator, which is the only handicap way up to the second floor. I used my crutches and slowly worked my way up on the steps. When we called to see if the elevator was working (it is often not working)...we were told "right now it is". Well I wasn't about to get on an outside elevator where the answer is "right now it is" with 97° outside. Again, oh well. Interesting thing happened while we were about to order our brunch. The elderly couple at the table next to us looked unhappy after they were served a lot of food. I watched the woman push her pancakes away. This concerned me bc I was about to order pancakes with blueberries and strawberries. The man stood up (I thought he was looking for his server) and I asked if the pancakes were ok? With a disgusted tone he said everything is cold. At that point, his wife stood up and they both walked out leaving all of that delicious looking food on the table...and without paying or trying to fix the problem. When the Server came by, she was baffled! It made me a bit concerned about our food all being cold bc my first cup of coffee and Hub's coffee was luke warm. However, our food was hot, delicious, fresh, nice portions, and requested things "on the side" were all correct. We could not be more pleased with our brunch. I was surprised just how crowded lunch was...every table full. I can't wait to go back. My blueberry pancakes were light, fluffy and simply...excellent. Pretty sure I will order them again next time. Logan was our server tonight. Every single thing he brought to the table was perfection. They had some new dishes on the menu. I think we tried them all. The new fried chicken with mushrooms and wine sauce was amazing. It came with this beautiful salad that had a spectacular dressing. We had the hanger steak which was cooked perfectly. The fries with the Bernaise sauce were so decadent. The pork Milanese was tender, crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. Of course the bread is always a stand out. Even after there wasn't moral left on any of our plates, we still ordered dessert. The brioche donut with soft serve was as perfect as the last time we were in. I noticed that there were enormous slices of chocolate cake at the tables all around me and I was tempted to order it... But we didn't have room to try both so I'll have to wait until next time. Brought friends because we have been there 5 times. Tonight was a disaster. Sat us at a table where I had to get up to let the table next to us leave. No room. Then we changed tables and waited and waited for our dinner. The manager came over & did not offer us anything for the wait we had for our dinner. They said the kitchen was backed up. The food is very good and it's not expensive. The menu is small but covers the breakfast basics. We had coffee, an omelette, hash browns, a side of bacon, and a donut. It was all very good including the coffee. The omelette was a nice size and tasty. The hash browns were not greasy. The donut was delicious. It came with a rich caramel sauce. We had to ask for jelly for the toast. The server brought Smuckers in the little packs, as well as a small amount of homemade jam in a paper cup. The service was subpar. The male server was not very friendly. He took forever to get us extra creamers. I finally asked another table who was finished eating if I could have theirs since my coffee was getting cold. We had to ask for coffee refills. He didn't check back after the food was delivered. He didn't refill our coffee or water. The hostess was nice and friendly. It was busy on a Sunday at 12:30. We waited about 25 minutes for a table. They accept reservations so it's a good idea to make them. No one is in a rush here so you're not going to get in and it quickly. It's a BYOB restaurant and I saw a few tables with champagne and wine at brunch. Thar's nice because not many brunch places have a BYOB policy. The river views are pretty and can be seen from pretty much every table. Make a reservation if you want to sit at the window. I would return to Charcoal and hopefully next time the service will be better. If the service has been good, I would have given this place five stars. read more

Beautiful views with seats overlooking the river, this gem is definitely worth a stop if you're visiting Bucks County. The place gets packed by locals on weekends, so you'll need to reserve in advance. Wait staff is always friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is reasonably priced if you get the eggs anyway dish. I really enjoyed their eggs Benedict with different toppings, especially spinach. The crown of the jewel is their fresh donut and donut hole with maple glaze. Have never had a donut like this anywhere. Fresh out of oven, it gives just the right crisp and melts into pure soft and sweet inner goodness that melts in your mouth. Once seated we became uncomfortable as they have the hard wooden chairs no padding- why restaurants still use seats from medieval times and make it so you want to stand for relief is disappointing. Only reason is they want you up and out for the next client. So we ordered- I tried the spinach egg drop soup as appetizer. Bad decision- SALTY LIKE THE OCEAN. Chefs need to taste soup periodically as it cooks down the salt will concentrate. The waitress took it away and deduced from our bill after I pointed out to her she forgot and $4 was removed. I then ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with bacon guacamole lettuce and a special sauce, it came on a sesame seeded bun-- the sandwich was ok. I looked inside the bun and there was a tiny little slimey piece of guacamole inside's . The waitress took away the soup and substituted Cole slaw which was not made fresh. My wife had a scrambled egg and cheese sandwich with home fries. Sandwich was good - home fries were way too salty and were dark and greasy. So not a great lunch with many areas to improve. I always love getting a gift card to a restaurant from my son because he knows how to pick a great spot and once again he picked a winner (thanks Justin ). I'm just gonna highlight a few things but add this; everything we had was a flavor explosion. Here goes-the homemade bread with Vermont butter was light and airy, the Yardley Hot Chicken was crispy and moist, and we splurged cause well, gift certificate, the donut sundae was again light with plenty of cinnamon sugar. I really wanted to give this place a five star review but unfortunately I can't. Recently, I dine with two friends and we started with the bread (which was excellent though there's a charge for it), brussels sprouts and crabcake beignets. Everything was delicious. For our entrées, we ordered the fried chicken, the fish special, and the $65 strip steak. The chicken and fish were fantastic, but the steak was disappointing-it was more fat than meat. Since we were sharing plates, we quickly realize there wasn't enough meat on the steak, so we sent it back. The waitress was very understanding and agreed to take it off our table. However, when the bill came, we were still charged for the steak. When we asked the waitress about it, she said the chef felt we had eaten enough to be charged. We had each taken one small bite before noticing it was mostly fat. We're all big meat eaters, so we know a strip steak will have some fat, but this one was over 50% fat, which just isn't acceptable. We asked to speak to the manager, but apparently, there wasn't one on duty, after some back-and-forth, the waitress return, and the stake charge was finally removed. It's unfortunate, because aside from this issue, the rest of the meal was very good. As someone who eats out often, the food is important, but so is the service. Having to insist on a correct correction and feeling taking advantage of definitely left us our taste and doesn't make me eager to return. read more

My second time at Charcoal, but this time for lunch. Went during the heatwave happening now in June on the East Coast. Place was hot, just about no AC...only cranked it up when I asked. Second, I asked for a takeout order of a Turkey Club sandwich, specifically 'dry', absolutely no mayonnaise. Repeated this twice to the server, and I could see she was writing it down. I get home, and the sandwich is drenched with mayonnaise. Immediately called the restaurant, as the sandwich is for dinner tonight. Explain the situation to the hostess, told her I will come back to get a replacement with no mayo. She puts me on hold, comes back on and tells me they can't replace the sandwich until tomorrow morning. Are you kidding me??? What customer Service...NOT!!! Made reservations for a Friday night. Came in seated promptly. It is BYOB so we brought a bottle of wine and the server after greeting us quickly put it on ice for us. We ordered sweet corn beignets, the bread, and rye radiatori for the apps. The bread was really good love the nice crunch or the crust. Sweet corn beignets were the absolute highlight. Nice crunch on outside and then creamy corn potato inside with a creamy sauce and salsa like topping on top. I would go back just for these. The noodles were great I'm not much of a red sauce noodle dish person I find them a little too heavy sometimes and we ordered half portion of the noodles which was a good call. Homemade pasta was great and dish had a lot of flavor depth to it. For mains my husband ordered the duck and I the salmon. I felt the apps were more of the star than the mains. The mains needed more seasoning/flavor. Duck was cooked well was tender but could have been just a tad bit more tender. Then for dinner we had the doughnut and a side of soft serve. I'm not a big on sweets my husband is and I couldn't even stop trying to eat the doughnut. It was so good -- perfect textures. The servers were great. Ambience was beautiful. Had breakfast at Charcoal yesterday (Wednesday). The atmosphere is very nice, very eclectic, with a nice view of the Delaware River. My wife ordered the BLT, on a Multi-grain bread (very good she said) & a Beet salad mixed with Walnuts & yogurt with a hint of pepper I ordered the Blue Cheese Omelet with Arugula & Mandarin Orange slices mixed in, was to die for. Charcoal is a nice spot for brunch! It's a bright space with large windows that overlooks the Delaware River. Great views of the river with moderately priced tasty food is a win! The menu changes seasonally and many of the ingredients are locally sourced. If dining here for dinner it is BYOB and reservations would be a good idea, since it's not very large. The service was very friendly and if we are in the area again, we would stop here for brunch. I ordered the Bluberry Pistachio panckaces, because it sounded like an interesting combination. I recently stopped by Charcoal for the first time in about 3 yrs. My last visit didn't make that much of an impression on me, but this time around the food was much, much better. I went with the arugula, orange and blue cheese omelette along with an espresso. I was really impressed with my meal. The omelette flavor combo was really interesting (who the hell puts oranges and blue cheese into eggs anyway?) and the coffee was excellent too, much better than the putrid swill I received way back when. The view of the river is as nice as ever and beautiful to watch as you eat. Glad I have Charcoal another shot. Will definitely add them to my rotation of breakfast spots. read more
