It had been more than a year since my last visit to Marty's Place. Time flies!…read more I was driving by this morning after court, having skipped breakfast at home in order to get a jump on traffic going into the city. I saw a new sign out front on a Bud Light white board that breakfast was now being served 7 days a week! Hot diggity! I parked out back and walked in to a mostly empty bar (2 customers who looked like they were regulars). The bartender approached and we engaged about their breakfast menu. It was pretty wide open if my desires had anything to do with eggs. They did. I opted for a sausage, egg and cheese on Kaiser roll, and mug of java. While it was being created in the kitchen I watched a show about exotic car auctions. A Borgati opening at a cool million bucks was an eye opener. Another black transport used by John Lennon around London was also put up and sold. Pretty cool entertainment. The sandwich was great! Double patty, fried egg, American cheese and a fresh, quality roll, made for a tasty and fun meal. The side of homefries was likewise excellent - hot, crisp and spicy with sautéed onions in the mix. Coffee, strong and kicking. The only shortcomings were the lack of a joe refill offering, and lack of utensils. Luckily, I had a spoon from the coffee, which was fine as a shovel. Afterall, Marty's is still a wonderful corner dive. It was made for comfort, not for speed, nor etiquette.

Stopped in to try their breakfast. Got waited on pretty quickly by new bartender Nick. We sat up at…read morea big table new the kitchen. We ordered a French toast to split and then the cook came out and I asked him what's BFO mean on the menu? He ( Bill ) said BIG F Omelet lol he was Very personable! He even gave us upon greeting us 2 tiny tiny mini eclairs that were delicious! I asked him IF he does poached eggs he said I'll make u Anything u want! So my husband and I split a BFO and check this out-u get to pick as many meats and vegetables in yr omelet that u want! For the same price of $ 11 00! Comes w 6 pieces of yr choose of cheese! He brings out 2 plates and its Allready split for us! And we Both got an order of toast! The omelette was delicious I just Didn't care for the tiny cubed potatoes bcz they were too well done like deep fried! Afterwards he bought us tiny little samples of homemade poundcake like pineapple upside down cake, caramel, and even a strawberry cheesecake flavor! Bill Really impressed me with his sharing of how he makes his stuffed cabbage since I'm Hungarian and told him how I make mine! I've been in the restaurant business for 40 years ( Retired on my bday 3/13/20 at the start of Covid ) but I have NEVER tipped a cook until today! Charles and I Can't wait to go back and have Bill make Us lunch!

The latest incarnation is the Mystic Xela Restaurant Sport Bar, or a Mexi/Guat casa where the kitchen, back shelf, staff, and half dozen TVs are all en Espanol. This is a good thing because this place had been boarded up for a long while. Good to see it in motion again. I walked in the side door directly into the bar. A few hombres were sitting around with cerveza and late almuertzo, conversing in hushed tones while a futbol match between France and UAE was on screen. The hostess greeted me with a winning smile and invited me to sit at the bar as she handed me a menu. They specialize in Ceviche and Seafood, but I was not looking to eat fish cooked in lime juice, so I went with the Taco Asada Plate - 3 double wrapped tortillas stuffed with finely cut spicy beef, onion, red and green chili peppers, and two grilled Green Onions and Whole Jalapeno as top garnish. It was plenty hot as presented, but I cut the jalapeno into strips and put them inside the tacos for an extra Wooop. They were good tacos, but so loaded that although rolled tight to pick up, with each bite a bunch slipped out the back. Used a fork to capture the escapees. Much too good to let go to waste. The only downside to the experience was the overall condition of the joint. There is still a lot of work to be done to brighten it up and make for a completely engaging experience. As it was, it was worn out and looked like it had many years ago in its faded glory days. Fix it up and the place will bounce along with the stars.

The ceviche is fresh and served with crackers and tostadas for a yummy combination paired with the ceviche. The service is decent, however the ambiance could use a little work! It's a dive bar, with booth seating, but a major major dive. Had I not been with my husband, who knows this place serves quality ceviche that one will not get sick off of, I probably would've turned away and walked out because it doesn't look like the most trustworthy place to buy seafood. A few updates to make it look more modern could do wonders for this place.

I asked for the lettuce, tomato and onion on the side. I also got cheese on the burger, which i believe was white American. It was so juicy, flavorful and the right temp, and didn't need any condiments. The Italian Kaiser bun has mixed reviews on Yelp, but I was a huge fan. It tasted great and sopped up the burger juices. Rossi's is an area institution. In Trenton from 1933-2014 and then in Mercerville for the past 11 years. It has tons of old photos on th wall of the OG Rossi's and the people that ate there, like Joe DiMaggio. It was huge space with a bar, tables and booths. With the girth of the burger and at the price (May 2025, $16.68 with tax), it should have been presented with fries or a side salad, not just a la carte. Nevertheless, I'm a big fan!

I went to Rossi's Bar and Grill in Hamilton with an old friend who still talks about hamburgers the…read moreway some people talk about first loves and lost wars. Years ago I took him to the original Rossi's in Chambersburg after they won WIP radio host Glen Macnow's best burger contest. The place felt smoky and cramped and alive, a beating heart of the local community. So he came back to town and said, Take me to Rossi's. I want that burger again. The new Rossi's is bigger and brighter and very aware of its own legend. The website still shouts proudly about the award winning burger, the kind of pride that lingers long after the parade has packed up and the confetti has been swept into the gutter. The official burger of Polk High. We ordered the famous burger. It arrived on a soft roll, thick and respectable, cooked properly enough. The beef had that loose packed texture that once made it special, a little craggy, a little juicy. It was, in a word, fine. It didn't part the heavens, and it didn't cause my friend to close his eyes and whisper my name in gratitude. It was just a hamburger. The fries were plentiful and hot. There is still a sports bar soul here, sort of. Televisions glow and beer flows, albeit very VERY slowly. The menu stretches wide with wings, sandwiches, steaks, things for people who want something other than beef on a bun. It feels like a place that knows how to feed a crowd after a Little League game or a retirement home on an afternoon outing. The service was friendly in the way a distracted and rarely seen cousin is friendly at Thanksgiving. Smiles, sure. Refills, eventually. Our server moved with the gentle chaos of someone juggling too many plates and not enough time or help. Nothing disastrous happened. Nothing especially polished happened either. We waited, ee watched and we ate. When my friend took a bite,he nodded politely. He said, "It's good." This is not what he said all those years ago in Chambersburg when grease ran down his wrist and he declared it the best burger in the state with the certainty of Biff Tannen with a Sports Almanac in his back pocket. Restaurants age and legends settle into routine. Rossi's feels like it is living comfortably on stories of past glory. There is nothing wrong with the food, but there is nothing thrilling about it either. If you are nearby and hungry, you'll be fed and you'll leave full. If you're chasing a memory, you may just find that memory tastes better than the present.
