We wanted to love this place but it really missed the mark. It's only getting 2 stars because their burger for burger week was absolutely delicious. Our server was attentive, but we found some errors on the menu and he had a hard time explaining things. I ordered the half chicken and it was okay. It was slightly dry and the gnocchi was dense and the garlic jus didn't really add any flavor. The best thing on the plate was the snap peas. My mom ordered the salad and the salad ingredients themselves were really good but the dressing was straight vinegar which made the salad inedible. They remade the salad with dressing on the side but she essentially had to eat it sans dressing. They had no other dressing option other than Ceasar. We ordered a side of Brussels sprouts and the charred cauliflower and they didn't have a lot of flavor at all. There was no seasoning on the cauliflower at all and we all know that needs sooo much salt and pepper to taste like anything. It had a nice vibe and ambiance and was pretty inside, but doesn't really make up for the lack of flavor in their food and the discrepancies on their menu. I would not be back and would not recommend. There are so many other better places in that area with similar vibes and better food. read more

VEGAN REVIEW: After an early evening at the symphony we strolled to check out the new 1Hotel a few blocks away. The restaurant on the street level in the hotel was open air on a beautiful warm spring evening and so inviting that we had to stay for dinner. Lovely decor, low lighting and very earthy with plenty of plants and wood decor. Our server was friendly and helpful in helping us select vegan options. My husband ordered one of their specialty cocktails with rum and avocado essence, sounds unusual but it was quite delicious and not sweet. Although it was a bit hard to swallow with the $20 price tag. We ordered their hummus which came with an array of fresh veg decorating the dish, almost too artistic to eat. (But not quite, we devoured it). We also ordered two of their small veg plates, caramelized Brussels sprouts and the cauliflower along with the beet Wellington main. The Wellington was a large beet wrapped in pastry, definitely mimicked beef Wellington. We appreciated the creativity of each dish and ranked the Brussels sprouts as the slight winner although we enjoyed each plate. My suggestion would be to add some form of protein to the vegan dishes to make them a complete meal. Overall a lovely meal in a beautiful setting, if they add some vegan protein we'll be back. read more

Okay, I give this 3 stars, my husband would probably give 4. Ambiance is a 5- really nice vibe, good sound and lighting. The service and food were a little underwhelming. We had the kampachi for a starter- I can't say the melon and kampachi worked for me. The half chicken was really good. That said, six smalls gnocchi's served with it seemed really skimpy, even for a nice restaurant. They were not sizable gnocchi's, they were itty bitty. The vegetables served with the chicken were tasty, but it did seem like the portion was quite small. Dessert was different and delicious- we had the hazelnut pear tart with olive oil ice cream, which I highly recommend. So why 3 stars?? Well, the service was subpar- our server didn't know anything about the menu, couldn't answer any questions (which were basic) about the food, preparation, best dishes (it didn't seem like he had ever tasted anything on the menu). Our drinks took a really long time (as did our food- I think he may have forgot to ring our order in). When my wine was low, he asked if I wanted a refill- maybe this is me being too picky, but most nice places don't offer a "refill" on wine, you ask if someone would like another glass of wine or a cocktail. It just felt like the service was on par with a much lower tiered restaurant. Nice guy, but lacked knowledge and the service that I think 1 Kitchen is going for. It could be a training issue, so easily something fixed, but it just made the dining experience less enjoyable. I'd try this restaurant again in a couple of months and see if there is improvement. I'm so sad because I want to love this place. The atmosphere is an A+ but the food for breakfast is ok at best and overly priced. The service is maybe the worst of all time. There is literally one female server doing the job of everyone else. They are over staffed and yet somehow no one checks on your table or takes your order. It's so strange. I've been back ( hoping it was just an off day / days) 3 times but it's unfortunately getting worse each time I go. The restaurant was not busy, we had a nice table on the edge of the patio but still inside- best of both seating areas. Our server was very nice but the food took a long time and our coffees and waters were not refilled. The service was inexplicably poor since the restaurant was slow. The food, a BELT and a couple of 1 Kitchen omelettes with sides were just okay. The bill with tip was hundred dollars, which was completely reasonable. When booking the reservation, I indicated we were celebrating a birthday, but it was never acknowledged by our server and we didn't push it for a birthday dessert; however, it felt overlooked. read more

My partner and I dined at 1 Kitchen on New Year's Eve and took part in the 5 course Prix Fixe menu offering for the evening. The dinner started off fine, with quick seating since we had a reservation, and our amuse bouche and first wine pairing arrived quickly. Our second course is where things took a turn. Since the menu for the evening had two dishes listed for each course, we were under the impression that we would get to choose. This was not the case. The food runner brought out both dishes. We asked if we were supposed to have been given a choice, and the runner did not understand. There was a bit of a language barrier, and we had not seen our waitress since our seating, so we asked for a manager to clarify, since this was the first of many prix fixe dinners we have been to that just brought one of each dishes without any consultation. The manager was under the impression we were supposed to have been offered options, but the other servers nearby and another employee chimed in to correct him, saying the dishes were meant to be shared, and there was no option. This was unfortunate, since there were dishes that neither of us were interested in that went uneaten, and many dishes were seafood, which I cannot eat. If you are going to go against the norm, this should be made abundantly clear, with staff explaining and checking about any issues. Between each course, our table was cleared, including silverware, which we had to ask for from passing servers each time, since ours was cleared and none brought with the dishes. Overall, the food we did eat was fantastic, and the wines were paired perfectly, so shoutout to the chef and kitchen staff. The ambience of the restaurant was very nice as well - modern, yet classy furniture and light fixtures, and the music provided by a guest DJ fit the vibe well, and was not overpowering; we were still able to have conversation without having to yell or get distracted. Overall, the experience was fine, but I do not think it was worth the $400 spent for the evening for 2. I have had better service at many a cheaper restaurant. read more

I will start with the fact that I am a local (who also happens to work in the industry and often is asked for advice on where to go/dine). I was asked to meet here by a friend for some food and perhaps a beverage. When I say I was more than blown away by the level of professionalism and comfortability I was greeted with from start to finish, I am absolutely underselling how great the service was! This will definitely be at the top of my "rec list" moving forward thanks LARGELY to the bar team of Brooks and Renae who were so accommodating, insightful and genuinely caring towards ensuring my experience was "perfect"! We had some of the most delightful beverages while getting to catch up, and ordered multiple apps, before enjoying a truly exquisite meal (I had the lamb)! Although I think we both were full from our meals, we did decide to try two of the desserts as well, and kudos to the chef and kitchen staff! Everything was way above my expectation! But again, the attentiveness and intelligence of these two bartenders thoroughly impressed both of us that I think both of us almost felt bad upon leaving that we have not been promoting this place enough in the past! No matter if you are a guest of the hotel, or just visiting, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND going in and grabbing a seat at the bar and enjoying one of the finer experiences one can have in music city! was staying at the 1 hotel and had f&b credit to use so chose to dine at 1 kitchen. last time i dined at 1 kitchen back in feb it was for breakfast, and my husband and i had an outstanding breakfast. this time i was solo, for dinner, and the hostess didn't offer any table options but to sit me right next to the hostess stand. i was asked if i wanted still or sparking when i don't really cared for bottled water. risotto was fantastic, the trout dip was equally delicious albeit weirdly plated and the vegetable quality could've been better. i think next time i'll opt to sit at one of the high tables at the bar area instead. read more

Had a first dinner at 1 Kitchen on a Saturday night. All-in-all it was a very positive experience. The space is pretty in a very different funky organic kind of way, with plants and rocks and rustic wood and fabric decorations everywhere (in keeping with the 1 Hotel vibe). There are some kinks to work out, but the service was friendly and attentive, and clearly everyone tried hard to please. I mostly liked both the spicy caesar and bibb salads to start, though neither was great. I thought the spicy penne arrabiatta pasta main was excellent, as was the trout, which was rich and buttery. The best scallops I've had from VA Beach to Fort Lauderdale. My wife's salmon was wonderful. The service couldn't have been better. We had an Fashion drink prepared at table side which was a culinary experience with all the different flavors of bitters, and infused fruits or spices.
