Service: The service here was incredible! Our server told us the most popular dishes and was really flexible if we wanted to change our order. He'd also crack jokes here and there! Ambiance: Such a nice bohemian ambiance! When making a reservation, select the sunset room, as you can see the Santa Monica beach from this room! The garden room is also nice. The bathrooms are spacious, clean, and match the bohemian vibe. You can also walk to the beach from Elephante, and that's a great way to burn calories after a nice meal! My boyfriend and i went here for a last minute date night, originally we were supposed to wait over an hour for a table since we were walk ins, which was no problem we understood it's a Saturday night and we had no reservations. We decided to go to the bar and conveniently a couple left right when we got there so we actually decided to sit and have our dinner at the bar! We decided to order a lychee martini however I don't believe the bartender heard us and gave us lemon drops instead, again I'm not one to really complain I like lemon drops so we finished our martini, I would give that a 5/10 honestly it was a little too sweet for me, for our second drink we ordered "The Elephante" with vodka, it tasted like mezcal I'm not gonna lie which is not my favorite, however it wasn't horrible I give that a 6/10. For our appetizer we ordered the Meatballs which I actually loved, we were so hungry I forgot to take a picture but I give it a good 9/10 only because they were just a little dry We also ordered the Burrata & fig, wowww this dish is to die for!! All the flavors are combined beautifully I give it a 10/10! Lastly, for our main dish we ordered the - Vodka pasta: 7/10, this dish was great but as someone who LOVES vodka pasta I must say it wasn't the absolute best I've had. The tuna tar tar tasted generic and the sauces carried, you couldn't really taste the fish. The calamari was incredible, but also tasted like 5 other calamari's I've had, it wasn't bad, but it didn't bring that south of Italy that the restaurant aspired to produce. The biggest downside was the service.. Bussers and/or server assistants were way more attentive and kind than our own server. Waters were brought right away but it took about 15 mins to get greeted by a server and even then, it wasn't a "hello". Instead it was a "did we have enough time with the menu"... I ordered every recommended item I had seen on social media and all lived up to the expectation. Prices aren't outrageous for this quality of food in my opinion. Honestly, I am usually unimpressed by LA dining options. For the most part it's wayyy overpriced relative to the quality. Not the case at Élephante. I highly recommend this spot for a few reasons: 1. Excellent service. We arrived about 45 min early for our reservation hoping to snag a table a bit before. While we couldn't be sat immediately, the sent us to the bar where we enjoyed some yummy cocktails. Not even 10 minutes later, the waitress came to sit us at a lovely table right by the water without being outside -- score! 2. The food is so freaking good. Let's start with the whipped eggplant which totally blew my mind. I'm now thoroughly convinced I might actually like eggplant as long as it's prepared like this. Definitely a fave. Went for brunch w my friends while visiting LA! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful with outdoor seating looking out to the ocean. I ordered the bluefin tartare and tried some of the whipped eggplant. The tartare was extemely mid tier and lacked salt. The whipped eggplant also lacked salt in my opinion, and it didn't have that wonderful smokey flavor that eggplant can take on as a dip. For a main (we went for brunch), I tried the breakfast sandwich which came on an English muffin. Again, not enough salt for me haha. I also didn't like the hash brown it included as it was a bit mushy, especially given the sandwich also had avocado. We came on a tuesday night and it was really busy to where our service was lagging quite a bit. I thought the food was mediocre too. We got the eggplant dish everyone was raving about and I did think the eggplant was fluffy but it would've tasted better paired with something other than hummus. The vodka sauce pasta was good but I've had better at other places, it was too chewy and the sauce was pretty plain. We got the steak as well and it was too chewy for my liking and we got medium rare. The flavored espresso martini had unique flavors like lavender, mezcal, and cinnamon but i felt like the mezcal flavor overpowered the drink. I liked the cinnamon one though! I had the prosciutto scramble which had all the components of a great brunch meal with the soft scrambled eggs, salty prosciutto, sharpness of arugula balanced with the mildness of the fontina toast. It was wonderful. We finished with the pavlova where the sweet was met with the tartness of the passion fruit glaze . And so fun to crack open the mousse exterior. The only flaw was our server. She started off strong and then we didn't see her when we wanted another round of cocktails and to order more bread. We also had to wait for her to come back to settle our checks. Overall it was a great experience in all respects just a little off with the service. Other things to note: Parking is valet or metered street parking. Food-wise, it was good. We ordered the vodka sauce pasta and the soppressata pizza -- both solid. For dessert, we got the pavlova, but the passionfruit was really sour and kind of took over the whole thing. Service overall was decent, bathrooms were clean, and parking is right across the street (no validation as far as I could tell). I can't believe I never knew about this place. I always park in the parking structure across the street to go to third street promenade but how would I even know about it? It's hidden and not easy to find (or even noticeable. There is definitely plenty of parking because it's inbetween two parking lots. One next to it and one directly across the street. Once approved you walk through a hallway to a small elevator that holds a max of 6 people. Once the doors open, there is another hostess desk and they lead you to where you need to be. The rooftop restaurant is bright, open, airy and energetic atmosphere. It has all the right vibes and you just feel alive. The place was clean and has a beach coastal vibe with beautiful views of the ocean and palm trees. Service was quick, our waiter was cool and helped with advice on a few food and drink options. It's been in the back of my mind for years, as various influencers have mentioned it as the "it restaurant" to go to with your friends or have a nice date night at. When I knew I was visiting Santa Monica, it's the first place I thought of to snag a reservation at. All this being said, I clearly had high expectations going in. Before entering, you are greeted by a host outside. Then you walk through a dark hallway till you reach the elevator that actually brings you up to the restaurant. Our reservation was for 9pm on a Saturday and wasn't ready until 9:20, which wasn't too annoying considering it was a late reservation and the place was packed. In the meantime you're encouraged to hang out by the bar. The atmosphere was lively and loud. The interior was open and had many Mediterranean inspired design elements. I wasn't able to see the costal views because it was nighttime sadly, but I imagine that would add to the experience. Once we were seated, our sever was friendly and highlighted the most popular menu items. To start I had the arugula and pear salad. It was sufficiently dressed and I enjoyed the combination of the salty ricotta salata and the sweet pear. Then I got the uber popular and highly recommend whipped eggplant. It was truly spectacular. The whipped texture was heavenly. It was somehow so light and airy, but also rich and creamy. The smoky eggplant flavor was bold and was complimented by the high quality oil on top. I have never had a dip so unique and addictingly good! For my main, I got the vodka pasta, which also lived up to the high praise. The pasta was a satisfying shape and cooked perfectly. When we went, it looked like they were doing some renovations ("pardon our dust" signs), and the tables felt really close together it honestly felt like the table next to us was part of our date . A bit cramped. It was also pretty busy for a Tuesday night. Our server mentioned they were a bit short-staffed, which might explain the pace and overall feel that night. For food: 1. Cacio e Pepe: this one missed for me. It was way too pepper-heavy and kind of overpowered the whole dish. 2. Branzino: pleasantly surprised by the portion size. It was bigger than expected and the pesto sauce was so good, I didn't even feel the need to add lemon. 3. Soppressata pizza: this was my favorite. The balance of the salami and honey was chef's kiss!!!! I already love honey on pizza, so this one hit. The service is complete garbage, they need to start from scratch & get a whole new team. There are 2 bar areas and the one farther in the back is larger, easier to find seating, and right in the middle of the bustling diningI area with a gorgeous view. We were greeted by their friendly staff and while our table was running a bit behind, they guided us to the bar and called us when it was ready. Their hospitality is unmatched, as it was a bit crowded and they still managed to take care of our last minute reservation. I appreciated the hostesses! Our experience at Élephante was incredibly disappointing, especially considering we were celebrating a wedding. My friend had flown in from Germany, and after their ceremony we chose this restaurant for what was supposed to be a special and memorable dinner. To start with the positives, the restaurant was very accommodating with our reservation and allowed us to bring in a wedding cake, which we appreciated. The atmosphere was beautiful, the restaurant itself is lovely with a nice view of the beach. parking was conveniently located across the street in a structure, and the menu offered a nice variety of options. I ordered the cacio e pepe pasta, which was rich and creamy with perfectly al dente pasta. The pizza was also good, although slightly greasy. The cocktails were excellent, especially the martini with blue cheese olives and the Oaxaca cocktail made with imported liquor from Oaxaca, Mexico. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the experience. Our server, Altay, seemed far more attentive to neighboring tables and frequently disappeared for long stretches of time. We had to wait excessively just to order water, drinks, and food, which made the service feel careless and inattentive throughout the evening. The most upsetting part, however, was what happened to the wedding cake. We paid $130 for this cake for one very special occasion, yet when it was brought out, the server had placed multiple colorful birthday candles all over it. This completely changed the tone of the moment and ruined the presentation of the cake. Instead of elegant wedding photos, we were rushed to take pictures while bright birthday candles melted onto the cake in broad daylight at 4 PM. What should have been a meaningful memory ended up feeling careless and almost comical. Between the inattentive service, the mishandling of such an important moment, and still being required to pay gratuity, this experience left a very negative impression. We ordered the Whipped Stracchino Cheese and Tuna Tartare as appetizers, followed by the Tagliatelle Tartufo pasta and Soppressata pizza for our entrees. Everything was solid, but the Tagliatelle Tartufo really stood out. It was easily the best dish of the night and probably the best tagliatelle I've had. We arrived around 8 PM, and the restaurant became extremely crowded and loud as the night went on. After 9 PM, the music was turned up even more, to the point where it was difficult to hold a conversation. It felt more like a rooftop bar than a sit-down dinner, which may appeal to some people but was not what we were looking for that night. Service was another downside. It may have been due to how packed the place was, but service was quite slow and our waiter was not very attentive. We often had to wait longer than expected when we needed something. Overall, while the food was very good, the noise level and service made it hard to fully enjoy the experience. Okay we all love a trendy rooftop restaurant on the west side and I was happy when my friend from OC suggested we come here for lunch. The rooftop is beautiful, with a very laidback but energetic energy. The dishes we ordered were decent, pretty mediocre/standard for an Italian brunch restaurant. It was so packed that I could not hear anything in the restaurant, it was very loud but the scenery was nice (you are able to see the ocean if they place you near the ocean view window). Starting with the food, the pasta noodles were not cooked properly; the noodles were on the harder side. Noodles in both pastas I ordered. The cacio de pepe pasta and the asparagus were soaked in oil that it was hard to eat. The whipped eggplant had no flavor. The artichoke pizza was also bland and lacked flavor. I also got a Margarita Pizza and it was the best thing at this restaurant. If you were to try anything just get the Margarita Pizza. Next with the staff, I'm guessing because it was super busy, it is hard to attend to many tables. With that being said, at times it felt like our waitress forgot about us but she was still nice when we talked to her. For parking, there is a parking lot across the street that you can park in. Brought a family member here for their birthday, the employees were very nice and welcoming. We did make a reservation where we were able to pick exactly what scenery we wanted to sit at. The scenery isn't all too crazy, it's not right by the beach you're able to see the alley and some buildings in-front then the beach behind that. But they do have a very nice set up inside and it looked beautiful. The food was good especially the pancakes my family member ordered. The drinks were also pretty good. The only thing I would say that I did not like was that the waitress tipped herself and asked me to just sign the payment. I did feel pressured to just accept what she had put since she was over looking me and waiting. I was going to tip either way so I would say that was the downside of the experience.
