Decor is more post than a typical breakfast place ... but the prices definitely align. There have much on the menu under $25 but the food did not disappoint. Got the hojicha. I finally made it to Sweet Maple in Santa Monica after hearing so many people rave about it, and it definitely lived up to the hype! My husband, some friends, and I went for Sunday brunch. When we arrived, the line outside looked like people were waiting to get into a nightclub, so I was expecting a long wait. To our surprise, we were seated in less than 20 minutes. We started with the bacon flight, and it was absolutely delicious--definitely a must-order. We also went with the bottomless mimosas, which are served family-style for the table. Just a heads-up: everyone at the table has to participate if you want the bottomless option. It was worth it, though! They offered four different flavors, and the rosé mimosa was my favorite. I ordered the noodle dish after spotting it on a nearby table--it looked too good not to try. It was a fun, elevated take on Cup Noodles and tasted great. While I'm glad I ordered it, next time I'd probably try something different because there are so many other dishes on the menu that looked amazing. I was a bit upset because the line was super long then after waiting for nearly an hour to just put my name down they only had bar seating available and a table would've taken another 30 mins. They had like 6 bar seats available too so it was pretty irritating that you couldn't just walk in and find a seat at the bar. First I ordered fresh squeezed orange juice and it was the best I've had in years. I also ordered the Blackstone, which was the best eggs benny that I've ever had. Picked this place on a whim for a family brunch with my husband, my nine year old, and my mom. We don't live close to Santa Monica, so I wasn't sure where to go. I so glad this is the spot we picked! Very disappointing experience. I've never encountered a restaurant that requires parties of more than six people to meet a minimum spending amount. I completely understand a credit card hold or a no-show fee, but forcing customers to spend a certain amount is unreasonable. They also emailed us a lengthy, unnecessary form to complete just to make a reservation and required us to choose our meals in advance, which takes away from the dining experience. Large parties bring more business to a restaurant, so these policies make no sense. Because of this, I canceled my reservation and chose to dine elsewhere. The food here was sooo good. There were so many options on the menu, which means I will definitely be back to try more dishes. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, even offering great recommendations to help narrow down the options. Very well lit interior and plenty of outdoor seating (although you are pretty close to pedestrians which is why we chose to sit inside). If you plan on visiting, making a reservation is highly recommended. I was seated very quickly, whereas the line for walk-ins was extremely long. The biggest downside to the experience is the parking situation, which is both expensive and overly complicated. The garage is located downstairs and requires you to scan a QR code, preselect and pay for your duration on a website, and then call a phone number just to get the entrance gate to open. It makes no sense why they do not use a traditional paper ticket or post-payment system, and there was no obvious way to get the parking validated. We chose Sweet Maple for my daughter's birthday brunch because it looked cute, classy, and perfect for a group of girls. When we stopped by the day before, I specifically asked about kid-friendly options since the girls are extremely picky eaters. I was told they could accommodate them from the kids menu which had pancakes, eggs, fruit, and meat, which was perfect. Based on that, I made a reservation through Yelp (which required a credit card hold, I would be charge $15 per person if we canceled or made reservation changes). We arrived 10 minutes early and were seated quickly. The table setup was awkward--we had to move the table ourselves just to be able to sit down, then pull the table back towards us after we sat down. Unfortunately, the experience quickly went downhill from there. Our server Kou P. did not come across as welcoming and seemed visibly annoyed when one of the kids asked for apple juice (which they didn't have) while the others ordered water. What was most shocking and honestly inappropriate for a place like this, was Kou's skirt. It was extremely revealing to the point where it made us uncomfortable. That alone made us consider leaving, but we stayed to avoid being charged the cancellation fee. As she walked, we can see her bottom cheeks, so she was wearing nothing underneath or it was very skimpy. I feel like she made a couple points to clean the bar table so she can be looked at as she was leaning over a bit. When it came time to order, things got even more frustrating. Despite being told the day before that accommodations could be made, Kou refused to allow the kids to order from the kids' menu because they were over the age limit. She questioned their ages directly and insisted they could only share the pancake order instead. This was very disappointing for the kids. We ended up ordering a couple stacks of pancakes, which were inconsistent (one had 6, another had 8), and items we were told would be included--like blueberry marmalade--never came out. The reason is because she said the kids are picky. So she only brought out syrup, butter, whipped cream and blueberries. Service overall was bad. Our server never checked in on us, and every time we needed something, we had to flag down other staff just to get her attention. Those staff members couldn't even bring out extra syrup for us. The food itself was just okay. Our main dishes were hot, but the "Millionaire's Bacon"--which the restaurant is known for--came out cold and tasted like something I easily make at home. Definitely not worth the hype or price. To top it off, a 20% gratuity was automatically added, which felt absolutely inappropriate for the level of service we received.
