We celebrated my 55th birthday this past Sunday, Feb. 23rd. This was my second dinner celebration with friends at Zuppa in the wine cellar downstairs. The last time was for our anniversary. Let me say everything was perfect. The atmosphere, the food, the service just lovely. Shaq, our head waiter, was efficient and classy as ever. Thanks to Arif and Enrique for great service. A special thanks to Edi for his warmth and generosity. Also, for stopping by to greet us. My friends and family had a wonderful time. Can't wait to eat here again. read more

An adorable high end italian place in what appears to be an area attempting revitalization. The dining area is deceptively large, but still has an intimate feel - a great place for a large group meal. The food was delicious - spot-on italian with professional service. We ended our meal with some really well-made lattes. We were allowed to sit as long as we liked and were not bothered by the wait staff. A really wonderful lunch! read more

Great neighborhood restaurant! It seems that Zuppa has been around and been the same in appearance for as long as I've been living up here, since 2006, but it took me 8 years to go in here. Man was I impressed. In fact we ONLY went here because there was too much traffic into Manhattan to go to a downtown hipster restaurant that my fiance wanted to dine at for her Birthday. It was also Nor'eastering out and with the Saw Mill flooded we decided to dine here on a quiet Thursday night. They have a valet parking but we found a sweet spot right in front and in no time we were seated with menus. Service was a tad slow since we came for the early dinner service (6pm) and our waiter seem to have just got there himself. Also the manager had the entire wait staff setting up a long row of tables for a large dinner party that came in after 7pm. So this added to our wait time for service. When service came it was friendly and swift. They are a couple of guys in addition to the waiter that took care of us. Food is an odd mix of Italian, Seafood and Middle Eastern (I think) but it was very good. We had a restaurant week pre-fix menu but still ordered from the regular menu. I thought the Food Menus could have been longer with more items. By comparison the Wine Menu book was extensive. It looks like the King James Bible but the Food Menu was just a sheet of paper. That said the food was extremely well done! The wines were great as well. I highly recommend the "Florencia" Argentina Malbec!!! Based on food and wine alone Zuppa deserves a 5 star review but I had to take a star off for the slow initial service and the fact the manager made everyone in the wait staff set up furniture while we waited for water and bread. read more

I thought I had updated my original review a while back but can't seem to find. The food is consistently delicious, using innovative recipes and the finest ingredients. Most importantly I want to mention that they seemed to get the memo about the music and it is somewhat toned down and more appropriate for the quality of the place. read more

My husband and I ate here about a month ago (always late on these reviews!) for the first time. We debated in going into the city or staying local, and I am so happy we stayed in Yonkers. We're both vegetarians/pescetarians and my usual concern trying out new restaurants is the limited options, but Zuppa provided well. We began with the eggplant meatless meatballs and the skewer of calamari, both were AMAZING. Along with the bread, fresh hummus and Rosemary infused olive oil I was already in heaven. The meatless meatballs were lightly fried and not to heavy, perfectly done, and the calamari skewer was grilled to perfection. For our main course (we always split apps and a salad and a main dish) we went with the Cesar salad which was so good, dressing was light and flavorful, and the main dish was a special that night a Mediterranean Sea Bass with endive and potatoes. Every thing was cooked to perfection and the flavors paired wonderfully with nothing too overpowering or off putting. Dessert was a deconstructed Nutella cannoli (OMG) I could have like a million more. Service was great, attentive but not over bearing, and very polite. We'll definitely be back, so happy this little gem is so close to home. read more

South Yonkers revitalization where they cleaned up a few blocks hoping to get out siders. Guys and girls it's a week end night. Feeling a little tingle, feeling a rush, knowing its short walk to.... THE HOOD TIP, try the BASIL PANA COTTA FOR DESERT read more

Music fantastic, food good, but ambiance and service a little awkward. There was great live singing on a week-night, totally unexpected as we came in for dinner. We ordered wine and were mesmerized for a while until we noticed we were hungry and menus had not arrived, nor had delicious looking bread we saw at other tables. Once we got the waiter's attention, both were quickly delivered to the table and we all ordered quickly. I had a perfectly prepared roast duck (medium with crackling skin) sitting atop risotto that was equally tasty (not too soggy, not to dry, nice herbs to complement the duck). Other people at the table got terrific pastas. Perhaps it was because we were there on a week-night but the large space was pretty empty and I wondered how this place would stay in business. Please go and help them out - the food and music are worth the trip! read more

It's just not great. No other way to say it but Zuppa is not what it looks to be. There was a time when the menu was fresh and innovative but now it seems to be flowery descriptions for average meals. Sorry to say but we won't be returning for the decor alone. read more

Zuppa helps bring fine dining to the Yonkers waterfront. A nice place to eat dinner or pop in for a cocktail in an upscale setting rivaling something you would find in the city proper (as compared to the sports bars on either end of the street). Favorite dish - Barbecued Octopus - but order it during the summer when it is served on a bed of shredded watermelon. My roommate and I were there this weekend and it came out on a bed of potato salad (albeit a classy potato salad). So not the same flavors. I know its winter, but not everything has to reflect that. On the whole though, I haven't had a dish that wasn't thoughtfully prepared. Many layers of flavorings in most dishes, that always lead to great tasting palate surprises. I find that I often order from the specials, although their standing menu (which does shift seasonally) is great too. My only complaint is their signature cocktail, the Zuppatini, reminded me of Koolaid - not really what I was looking for. Their Peach Cosmo, on the other hand, that is a delectable cocktail. My roommate is in love with their espresso after sampling it this weekend. read more

My experience tonight at Zuppas was exceptional. Lived here for years but never tried it out. Tonight we tried it out. First off I have to complement the service. Top notch service. Wait staff was polite , knowledgeable, and on top of table. Bus boys replaced silverware after each course (something to expect in a good restaurant). But the biggest thing that impressed me was that the food came out piping hot. This may sound like a pet peeve, but I can't tell you how many restaurants I have been to and have been served cold food. At best warm food. But when I am paying high prices for good food, I expect my food to be served HOT. And Zuppa did not disappoint. My food was served so hot, that it burned our mouth. That's how food should be served. As for the food. We started with a cauliflower appetizer. Excellent. My wife had red snapper, and I had the signature bolognese. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. We both had wine by the glass which was very impressive and for dessert we had the zeppoles. Great way to finish off the meal. Suffice it to say, we will be back. And we will sample many of the appealing dishes on the menu. Kudos to the chef, and management at Zuppa. read more

My husband and I have been going to Zuppa for years. We also introduced many of our friends and children to Zuppa. There has never been a time when someone was disappointed. The food is excellent, service impeccable, a good choice of drinks, and Yonkers beer on tap. Since we have been going for a while, I would like to see a few additions to their menu. Although, the rabbit and black ink squid pasta should stay on the menu. Love them both! read more

Went to Zuppa with great friends from high school. We're all businesswomen some of us are retired. We were warmly welcomed, graciously served, the owner stopped by to check that all was well. Zuppa - Fighting over the steak. Delicious, tender and juicy served with pan roasted potatoes and flame grilled spicy peppers. - Italian Near Me - Yonkers, New York

Was invited to a pharmaceutical conference at this place. Great venue!! I was really impressed...Their audio/visual needed some attention, especially the audio part. Since my food was all paid for, I ATE like crazy..but the entree I ordered..OH it was GOOD..It was chicken with potatoes and veggies!! Oh it was delicious. I would go back to this place just to get my hands on that entree! read more

We loved it here from start to finish. There is a delicious bread and hummus type spread brought to the table to start. Fresh, and different. I had the Nutella braised short ribs with polenta and brussel sprouts, which didn't really taste like Nutella but were so moist and rich. Brussel sprouts were more of a garnish in the creamy polenta but it was still more than I could finish. Nicoletta (our amazingly charming, knowledgeable, and professional server) recommended a perfect wine to go with my short ribs and was gracious enough to let me taste it first. My friend had Amish chicken with red potatoes that was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The panna cotta was sublime. So creamy with a delightful orange zest and the cappuccino had an almost crispy layer of cinnamon on top- like desert. The owner spent a good amount of time chatting with us about the neighborhood which made us feel welcome. The ambience and music was accessible yet elegant. Prices seemed quite reasonable. So nice not to go into debt because you want to eat well. Thank you Zuppa for a great evening! read more

Real Italian food and I know italian. The waitress did not write down anything as she took our orders for 4 people. That means only one thing, she knows the kitchen and the food very well. The owner is a nice guy, makes sure he greats us every time whether it's busy or slow. True gem! read more

We went several years ago on the recommendation of a work colleague and had a very good meal. The recent return trip was not as positive, but not bad. The "sagna" (LAsagna, minus the LA) -- was only ok. The saffron cream was a nice touch, but it did not make up for the lack of... something...because the layers of meat and pasta somehow ended up tasting like a sandwich. The ravioli with peas and mint was better, and the spaghetti with clams was genuinely delicious. Most impressive of all -- the place is moderately priced. Pasta main courses were all $20 -- not bad in this day and age for a place that's aimed upscale. I found it a little loud -- something I don't remember from the first visit. If there's a lot of people noise, might be best not to have the music on. In that part of Yonkers, parking can be hard. The addition of valet parking is a real help. read more

This review is WAY overdue, but over a year later I am still receiving compliments about the party we had there. I had my engagement party here last October. My fiance and I sat down with Edi and Nando to discuss the party details and they understood exactly what we wanted within minutes of meeting them. We had quite a large party, about 90 guests in their back dining room. They did all they could to accommodate our large group and our budget. We started off at the bar with so many delicious appetizers. The guests were so pleased with the wide selection of treats. Then we moved into the back room and the guest were treated to a delectable meal. We began with Zuppa's take on penne a la vodka. It was creamy, perfectly seasoned and perfectly portioned. Next our guests had a choice of a salmon or chicken dish. Everyone loved their meals. I even had a few guest order two entrees because it was so amazing! After dinner was finished each table got several orders of Zuppas zeppolis. Each order had several delicious dipping sauces. After that we were treated to a delicious strawberry shortcake. It's been over a year since our engagement party and we are still getting compliments about the food, the service and the atmosphere. If you are thinking about having a gathering, Zuppa's is the place to do it. Edi & Nando will do whatever they can to help make your event special. Thank you Zuppa's for making our engagement party so special and such a memorable (and tasty) experience. read more

Zuppa - Italian Near Me - Yonkers, New York

Dinner at Zuppa was enjoyable. Yonkers Restaurant Week led us there - 25% off food only, not drinks. Location was easy to get to, Valet parking is convenient. Interior is charming and spacious. We each had a glass of wine. I had ravioli, which was delicious. Hubby had special risotto with scallops. Dessert was tiramisu, very nice. Not the best we ever had, but quite good. Not sure if we'll be back. read more

This restaurant would hold its own against any Italian restaurant in the NYC. Definitely take advantage of the valet parking since finding a nearby parking during peak times is not the easiest. They start you with a selection of complementary fresh breads with a nice spread. We then had the meat and cheese board (2 types of each) and they were delicious and happen to be the type of cheese we love. We also had the baccala. These were larger than what we expected and were cooked perfectly. The long hot pepper aioli is not hot. For pasta we had the signature ribbon pasta. Delicious! The pasta was cooked al dente which we prefer and the bolognese sauce was rich and meaty. For main we got the nutella braised short rib. Not much of nutella flavor but the short rib was tender and very tasty. Not sure polenta was the best thing to pair with the short rib but was OK. While we were very full we had to get the tiramisu. It was so worth it. Here you can taste nutella initially and then the rest tasted like a regular tiramisu. Very nice atmosphere and well decorated with high ceilings. Service was excellent. If we are ever in the area again we'll definitely be back. read more

We went to Yonkers (how random) for a family birthday party. It was being held at Zuppa. We were elated that we found parking on the street very easily (surprised?). Upon entering, the place was not at all what I had imaged a restaurant/lounge in Yonkers to look like. It was, for lack of a better word, nice inside. We were greeted graciously and escorted to our party, where we were given our table cards and FREE drinks. This night is getting better. After the first or three glasses of wine el novio brought me a plate of hors d'œuvres. I first tried the bruchetta....(wait for reaction)....it was very very tasty; then I moved over to the sliced meats and artisanal cheeses, this was not so tasty. When it was time to order our meal I got the penne with tomato and basil and the bistecca (black angus sirloin with a wine reduction). Luckily I was surrounded by good company AND bottomless BOOZE that I wasn't too much concerned that my food took over 1 hour and a half to get to me. I tasted the penne and it was more on the undercooked than aldente for my taste. I moved to the steak and I was underwhelmed. It looked well, I mean, aesthetically it looked pleasing. But when I bit into it I noticed it was more medium well than medium rare. I looked over to my right and noticed el novio's brother with my medium rare steak. (sigh) No worries, I had a few bites of el novio's ravioli butternut squash with sage brown butter and bacon, and it was honestly the best ravioli I've ever had but they could have done a little better with his Salmon (the peppercorns made it taste like straight up Spicy Pink Trash). The situation got really awkward when the Birthday girl's boyfriend burned a CD playlist for the dinner and asked the bartender to play it! This is rather amusing to watch, especially if you're drunk with everyone else drunk around you. Debauchery! They stopped the first track on the playlist mid song (it was Snoop Dog's "Nuttin but a G Thang"............CLASSIC!!!!), they put Yo-Yo Ma back on the speakers (which was fine for me, because I love me some Yo-Yo Ma) Other than that, if it wasn't for the free BOOZE and great company, I probably would not have gone to Yonkers on this Saturday night. read more

I came here on Sunday night with my mother, mother-in-law, and my fiancé for a belated Mother's Day dinner. When we entered the restaurant, it was pretty empty. The décor was nice - simple and understated. There were some unique touches with the light fixtures but nothing extraordinary. The place was spacious. The outdoor appearances are certainly deceiving. We were immediately seated (we had a reservation). We ordered the mushroom pizza as an appetizer for the table. Two of us got the salmon. My fiancé got one of the pastas - I believe it had a pomodoro sauce. My mother got the steak. We were all relatively happy with our meals. I wasn't ecstatic about my salmon, it was a touch too tasteless. I wasn't a fan of the potatoes it sat on. My mother-in-law loved her salmon. My mother LOVED her steak so I'm assuming it was really good. The fact that they were able to make a well-done steak flavorful speaks highly of their experience with food. My fiancé liked his food, but much like me, wasn't over the moon over it. I didn't really like the pizza though. Once again, I thought it lacked flavor. I could tell the ricotta was homemade, which is always a huge plus, but I had one tiny slice then I was done. Before the meal started, they presented us with a bread basket complete with olive oil and hummus, both of which were enjoyable. The service was fantastic though. The waitress/hostess we had kept checking on us to make sure we were happy. They were refilling our glasses of water like it was their only job to do so. Their dessert options looked amazing but at that point, we were too full to pursue the undertaking of consuming desserts. One weird thing happened though - in the middle of our meal, they dimmed the lights. I suppose it was to try to create an ambiance but the lights were too dim. There's no parking - just street parking. It's not at a bad area of Yonkers. It's close to the water. This was the perfect restaurant to take my mothers or fathers out to, but I wouldn't go for a date night. read more

We got engaged in Zuppa and then we had our Wedding Reception there....it is an excellent place! Great food, wine, service and environment.

I don't know what is more amazing about this place...the food or the service. For lunch - they have the best burger I have ever had. They attribute it to their organic cut of beef. I asked for mayo and they made some for me. The brick oven pizzas are also out of this world. After having such an amazing lunch experience, I started coming here for dinner. I consistently order the Garganelli which is similar to a penne alla vodka with shrimp but better, the steak, seafood ravioli and the pasta with veal Bolognese. The service is out of this world, I've never, ever had a bad experience there and on several occasions, the owners will come around to make sure everything was perfect. I almost forgot appetizers! The duck sausage is out of this world and so is their crostini which has smoked ricotta, duck and orange. This place has a NYC feel and is very swanky...a must visit! read more

Had a 7:30 reservation, but wasn't seated until 8:30 (no apology for the hour wait)... Our party grew later in the evening from 5 people to 8, which to their credit, they were able to accommodate. The waiter, who didn't write any of our orders down, brought out an extra appetizer that we didn't order, and then charged us for them (owner claimed that because we ate it, we should pay for it). The food was mediocre at best, and served in small portions. There was not much redeeming about our experience. I had such high hopes from the recommendations of others.... Waste of my time, money, and appetite. We had a reservation, had to wait for table a bit. Pretty place, big table for 7 of us in the back. I sat under a vent and pretty much froze all night. We were given only two menus because they didn't have enough. We ordered drinks, The server gave me the wrong wine and switched it and then after we drink our wine we realize that they were right to begin with and had to switch them back. Our apps were flatbreads where one had undercooked egg and the other was wrong altogether. The "Baccala fritters" (cod) were not fritters at all but bite size pieces of cod battered and fried with some type of a sauce drizzled over the top. Eggplant meatballs were literally the size of big marbles and they sat in some bland red sauce.we got a mushroom crostini with ricotta. Again, nothing great. This is all food that I can create at home for much cheaper that tastes better. The Farro salad was delicious, chewy and nutty with a nice lemon dressing. My friend ordered risotto with scallops for app and it had an ok taste. I might add that everything that was ordered was placed in front of the wrong person because they never got who ordered what straight. For Dinner I ordered the Branzino which had the most boring and unappetizing presentation I've ever seen in my life for a $28 entrée. It came skin on laying on top of little potato cubes with what looked like a half a teaspoon of tasteless saffron aïoli scattered underneath. Everything was so unappealing and tasteless that I forgot to take pics of most of it. The butternut squash ravioli was delicious but could've used more ravioli and sauce as once again, was scarce. Everything came to us lukewarm For dessert, we ordered affogato, tiramisu, Panacotta, and zeppoli. I've never seen a smaller scoop of ice cream for this dessert and the espresso was practically cold. The tiramisu came in a small cup and to me the mascarpone tasted more like Gorgonzola. Zeppolini was good and came with 3 sauces, all too thin but tasty. Panacotta was bland. They also started taking dishes before we we finished and had to stop them. They never asked if I wanted my leftover branzino, which I didn't want but that's not the point. Overall this place was disappointing and we will never go back because the food was mediocre and expensive and I could do better at home, trust me when I tell you I have the pictures to prove it. read more
