I visited La Chitarra with a girlfriend, and it turned out to be such a great choice for lunch. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the food tasted incredibly fresh from start to finish. The homemade pasta was the highlight of the meal. You can really taste the difference when pasta is made fresh--it had the perfect texture, and every bite was flavorful and satisfying. As much as I enjoyed the pasta, the dessert completely stole the show. The pistachio tiramisu is absolutely to die for! When it first arrived, I was a little confused because it looked very different from the traditional tiramisu I'm used to seeing. After the first bite, though, I understood why it's so popular. It was creamy, rich without being overly heavy, and had a wonderful pistachio flavor that gave a unique twist to a classic dessert. The service was friendly, and the overall experience was excellent. If you're dining at La Chitarra, definitely save room for dessert the pistachio tiramisu alone is worth the visit. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

TL;DR Food - Fair, yet unremarkable Service - Needs improvement Ambiance - Quaint As we entered through the Market & Pasta Shop section of the restaurant, the staff behind the counter acknowledged us so welcomingly. A good indicator setting the tone for this afternoon's meet up. Or so I thought. Arriving for our reservation minutes before 3:00pm, we were seated in a comfortable corner of this very quaint, rustic yet modern restaurant. Without hesitation and before given a chance to fully settle into our seats our waiter, uncertain of his name, hastily asked our water preferences. Within moments, our waiter was back to unintelligibly rattle off to my two companions, not acknowledging my presence, the specials for the day. Though I was present I felt non-existent. I kept this to myself to not dampen our positive mood. As the three of us were happily catching up on this supposedly leisurely Saturday afternoon and perusing the menu, our waiter was back again within moments. It is at this point that he informed us that the kitchen will be closing shortly. My observation. The staff member who sat us down upon our entering missed an opportunity to mention that the kitchen would be closing soon. Informing us in advance would've prepared us for the hasty service that ensued. Orders placed. Bread service arrives. Three warm, half slices of Sourdough accompanied by small ramekins of nicely salted Butter and rich Olive Oil for dipping. One of the best parts of my meal. Excellent. To share we decided on two apps. An order of Arugula Salad at $18.00, with Hazelnuts and Pomegranate Seeds. It was served in a small shallow bowl, prompting me to inquisitively query in my mind, "where's the rest of it?" Nonetheless a very tasty salad. The Burrata appetizer at $23.00, was very flavorful with its creamy innards, surrounded by Poached Pears and delicate Prosciutto. Thinking back, I could've easily had the Arugula Salad, Local Burrata and Sourdough Bread starter with my cup of Earl Grey Tea for my entire meal and would've been content and upping my star rating. But no, I ordered an entree. The description of the Pappardelle at $22.00 consisting of Ragu Blanco, Pecorino, Robiola (creamy Italian cheese) and Rosemary, read very well on paper but missed the mark that attracted me to the dish. Sadly, my entree was on the dry side and barely sauced, nor cheesed enough or rosemary'd enough to my liking. A disappointment. I brought about 75% of the dish home to recreate an enhanced version. To add to this now two star experience was enduring the annoyance of the staff rearranging the dining room tables directly behind where we sat. Totally understandable as I can accept that there was a time constraint that had to be met by the staff. My disappointment here is there was no subtlety. Nor an initiation of apologies. Any sort of acknowledgement, to us the diners, from any of the staff members would have been appreciated. Unfortunately customer service appears to be lost by the members of the dining room team that were within range of my eyesight. I couldn't suppress my experience of being unseen, while also receiving lackluster service. So unfortunate. On a positive note, despite the shortcomings the three of us had a wonderful time together based on our own accord. I've been here a couple times before but always dined in the "pasta shop" they have next door. To my understanding it was there before the restaurant and I've always had an amazing time there. This time I went into the actual restaurant and I loved the aesthetic. Small, quaint, clean and classy. The portions were much bigger than next door and the menu is slightly different. I really enjoyed my food and love the vibes. I recommend coming here but also recommend you try next doors pasta shop! read more

Getting together with friends had to happen- especially since I hadn't seen them in about 2 yrs. We finally decided it was time to catch up with life and laughs over some Italian food. La Chitarra on Cedar St in Bronxville, NY is a 2-in-1 business. When you first walk in, there's a small 'market' with prepared ciabatta sandwiches, a nice amount of fresh pastas, etc and a high counter with stools to enjoy a quick bite. On the other side, is their small but cozy dining room where we ended. We had a 3pm res- though the restaurant closes at 4 for a break between the evening shift. No one told us we 'have to leave', but we definitely saw the fast paced walk from the servers going from table to table as they tried to wrap things up before the break. We started with a $18 arugula salad that was super tasty- but small. Even if it was meant for one person instead of a shared item for 3, it was small. Like, really small. I ordered a Bellini- but was surprised that it was on ice. It had enough oomph though. My friends shared the burrata with Bosch pears(?) and prosciutto, which looked divine. The pears especially had nice charred edges. My $36 tilefish over white beans and squash was juicy- but the portion was small. I'm totally aware seafood prices have gone up- but still, for that price, portion could've been slightly bigger. My friend ordered the radiatori which was actually a nice sized portion- but it came with diced, breaded chicken¯\_(ツ)_/¯. My other friend chose the tagliatelle with a ragu bianco and said it was on the dry side. She ended up taking the rest home to zhuzh up. Our desserts left us equally out of sorts. My friend's cassata cake was hard with a shortbread texture and my olive oil cake was dense. By the end of the meal, we were dazed and confused. What confused us even more, was the almost $240 for small portions, disappointing desserts and the non-verbal rushed service. read more

La Chitarra landed on my radar when I saw it highlighted on the Lohud Food's Instagram page. While Italian restaurants in Westchester can be a dime a dozen, the vibes seemed on here so I decided to check this place out with some of my IRL Yelp friends for a late lunch. La Chitarra is actually a hybrid business - acting as a market/pasta shop and a sit-down restaurant/wine bar. The entrance is atypical of a restaurant as you enter through the pasta shop and then walk through a door to enter the dining room. The space is nicely decorated - high ceilings make the dining room seem large though it's really not - the decor isn't too noteworthy but the finishes give it a slightly upscale look and the wine bottles that line the back wall are a nice touch. Pasta is the main star of the menu, but they also have a selection of apps, a few salads, and a couple of non-pasta mains. We decided to start with an app and a salad - the burrata and arugula salad. The burrata was fine, similar to ones I've had in other restaurants; it was paired with prosciutto and pear which were nice complements. The arugula salad was good - the portion wasn't large, but it had a tasty dressing and contained hazelnuts and pomegranate seeds which added a tasty crunch. For my main I went with the radiatori - the pasta was paired with nduja, parmigiano, chili, chives, and chicken. The dish had a lot of flavor, and an appropriate amount of heat, but I was a little disappointed in the chicken component. The menu stated it was freebird Amish chicken, but it seemed like cubed up breaded cutlets; it could technically still be freebird, I just wasn't expecting what looked like a cut up cutlet. We opted for dessert which I thought was the weakest part of the meal - I got the cassata as I don't see that too often on menus. It was just fine, the cake lacked structure, had a white chocolate shell, and was served on top of jelly. An interesting take - not sure I'm sold though. One of my friends got the olive oil cake - I tried a bite, it was fine but kinda dry compared to other olive oil cakes I've had. I recognized the owner from his pic on the website as soon as we entered; he was super friendly and provided a warm welcome. Outside of that service was just okay - we were slightly rushed to get orders in since we were told the kitchen was going to close; we had 3pm reservations but I'm not sure when and for how long they close before turning over for dinner. Also, we had to remind our server since we were not served the desserts together, and they called the cassata olive oil cake which led to a little confusion by us. Overall, my experience at La Chitarra was a little rocky - I don't see much that makes it stand out amongst the dozens and dozens of other Italian spots in Westchester, but they are new and likely still working out the kinks. I wish them the best in their new endeavor - I personally wouldn't be against returning, but I'm not running back either. read more

La Chitarra is a wonderful addition to the village of Bronxville. Entering through the pasta shop next door is a genius marketing move because it immediately sets the tone and gives guests the opportunity to purchase fresh pasta and sauces to recreate the experience at home. We chose to sit at the bar. While the space is small, it's very comfortable and inviting. The staff is knowledgeable and genuinely kind, striking the perfect balance between attentive and respectful service. For our meal, we ordered the chitarra pasta, linguine with anchovies, and the short rib which was more than enough for two people. Portions are generous, and we happily took some pasta home with us. I'll go ahead and say it: the linguine with anchovies is easily a top-three pasta dish I've ever had. Absolutely outstanding. I'm already eager to return and work my way through the rest of the menu, with the octopus at the very top of my list for next time. read more

We came to La Chitarra recently for dinner. It's a very small cozy restaurant. Besides the restaurant they also make fresh pasta and sandwiches during the day. We shared the mafaldine pasta with zucchini. It was one of the best summer pastas I've ever had. For entree we both had fish. The fluke was fantastic and the halibut special was delicious. For dessert we shared the bonnet which one of the most unique desserts we've had. They also have a very diverse set of wines. This is our third time here and each time doesn't disappoint! What an experience first they only have wine and beer and Joanne and I requested Campari and soda and a Negroni. The amazing thing was he told her she didn't have the alcohol drinks, but he can make something similar by just using wine and it was on the money don't know what he did, but from that moment on, I knew we were in the right place. WOW! NYC has arrived in Bronxville! If you can get a reservation, I suggest you try it. The owner Randy is wonderful and he is the consummate host. We always ask for a recommendation for wine with our dinner and he never fails. The chef's pedigree is high, New York City Italian, and it couldn't be any better. We dine here at least once per week.
