When we're in the mood for an Eggplant dish which is often, and I don't feel like making it myself I'll stop by Pastosa Ravioli. Their homemade Eggplant Parmesan has been consistently the same for as long as I can remember. Thinly sliced layers of eggplant, lite red sauce, topped with a thin layer of mozzarella. Their portions are just right A few other items may make its way home with us, like the occasional Prosciutto di Parma or Stuffed Hot Peppers. 4pm and it's coming down sideways. I seriously didn't want to cook an entire meal from scratch on a Wednesday night- so decided it'd be best to get some help from Pastosa. Glass refrigerators the second you head inside on right- filled with fresh pastas (some frozen?). But it was pure torture seriously...because I knew each one of Pastosa's ravioli are cheese-filled. But in spite of that, I asked anyway if there are any vegetable ravioli without cheese- but didn't luck out. InPastosa's defense- there's a Vegetable-only ravioli- except as Joe told me- it's prepped with a small amount of egg to help bind the entire mixture. Middle shelves all stacked with Italian goods- but here's the pièce de résistance: glass display cases filled with Marinated Artichokes (which I freaking love), Olives, Roasted Peppers. And another case had the already-cooked Chicken Parm cutlets, eggplant Parm cutlets, etc. Bought a box of 12 Veggie Ravioli anyway to hook up hubs' dinner instead- and he enjoyed them. I didn't come here for anything else- but I'm so sure Pastosa carries the mortadella, coppacola, ham, the prosciutto, provolone, etc. Service was super friendly from Joe- plus he gave me two sample ravioli to bring home on the house. Best gabbaghoul around , found this place when I was in the area for work , stopped in and asked for an Italian hero and it was simply amazing , the bread was delicious , so soft and they weren't shy about the meat on the hero. Took home some homemade ravioli and they were also amazing. Just realized I was working close to this location again today and stopped in for a sandwitch again and it was just as good as the first time. This is one of the best Pastosa stores I've been to. Everything is freshly made and authentically Italian. Very large store with so many great treasures. Large selection of Gluten Free pasta's and pizza crusts. Very friendly service and very knowledgeable about their products. Quick service and CASH only. They have an ATM in store if you run short. Fresh Mozzarella is so delicious as well as the smoked Mozz. This store rocks and the prices are cheaper than many other Italian specialty stores and quality is much better than most. Ciao read more

Bought some fresh unsalted mozzarella and sun tried tomatoes which I really like, also bought some Modonia Italian bread to got with it... Well long story short, the sun dried tomatoes were not very fresh and even less tasty...The fresh mozzarella was pretty decent, but nothing special. The Modonia Italian bread was quite good as usual and is among the best quality breads in NY... The prices of the above mentioned items were pretty steep for the mediocre quality and taste you get. Hence, the three star rating due to the above factors which I wish I could of given a better rating as they are a local business to me. read more

I love to support local businesses, and Pastosa is a fine store. That said, the young woman behind the counter is so busy talking to the other person behind the counter you feel like your interrupting her. She is so distracted I wonder if she's is even aware that a customer is waiting for her to finish her chit chat. If I was the owner, she'd be gone in a NY minute. One of my favorite stores in the area. This is the best place to go for fresh Mozz without trekking all the way out to Arthur Ave. (but as a minor warning, don't let them salt it, just do it yourself, they tend to overdo it, or at least for my taste) Also a great place to get all kinds of meats and cheeses and pastas and sausages and deliciousness. You can tell they pay attention to what they sell here, everything they have, whether they made it, or are retailing it, is great. Also, look for great deals on vinegars, oils, etc. They seem to get random cases in all the time, varying brands, and sell them for pretty cheap. They are known for their ravioli, thus the name, but I've only had it once and wasn't too impressed. Whatever, this place is better for so much more.
