Murph rocks!!! No one can do a better job than him. He is so helpfull and cares less about money and more about the job he does.

I LOVE this place. Can't believe I was able to find a garage that I just TRUST without even thinking about it. Murph and his team always go above and beyond EVERY SINGLE TIME! He gives me enough hope to almost believe that humans are okay read more

Ran over a screw and had a slow leak from a tire. Murph and his crew could not have been better - helpful, friendly, efficient. He wouldn't even allow me to pay for the repair! I will definitely come back to see them and could not recommend them more highly. read more

I have never experienced a more honest and friendly auto center! My battery needed a jump, so I brought it into Car Zone to have them check it out. They said it was weak and instead of charging me for a new battery, they suggested that I check the warranty first. I didn't even consider that! After getting my replacement battery, Car Zone told me to come back and they'd install it. They were so kind and quick with the work. I will be definitely returning if I have any future car trouble! read more

This is a really awesome shop run by a caring and courteous owner who gives great advice and is a straight shooter.

I found the shop owner to be disingenuous and dismissive never really following through with completing the work he promised. I've chosen to use another local shop which was communicative and did a good job. read more

Today was my first experience with Car Zone. Hadn't driven my car for a couple days, and this morning our rear passenger tire had lost 20 psi. We first went to Sullivan Tire in Watertown (they are the closest tire shop), but they were booked up for the next two days due to the tax-free weekend rush. Hopped on Yelp and found Car Zone just a few miles away in Somerville. They said to come right in and they'd take care of me. Within a few minutes of my arrival they had pulled my car in, removed the tire and found the screw causing the slow leak. Another few minutes and the screw was removed, hole was plugged, tire pressures checked, and I was on my way. All of this for free! When I insisted on paying, the owner politely refused and said they never charge for fixing flats. It's been a long time since I have felt so valued as a customer and received such wonderful customer service. Don't hesitate to give these guys your business, and don't let the less than spic-and-span location or shop scare you away. Rest assured that when I need car repairs again I'll be calling Car Zone first. read more

Excellent Experience. Had my car towed there. They assessed the problem and had it fixed by the end of the day!

Murph and his team have done a great job keeping my 2010 Mazda 3 in excellent running condition. I found them based on Yelp reviews when they were still in there old Cambridge location. Over the past 8 years, I've used them for everything from regular oil changes, 30K service to getting my brake rotors and shoes replaced. Great service, fair prices and always honest! read more

I would go back to Murph and recommend all of my friends to go to Murph any day. He's an honest man who takes care of his customers. I went in to do a routine maintenance check for my car. He did a full check up, checked my engine, brakes, tires, everything, and he realized only thing new I needed was new engine fluids, and that's all he charged me for. He didn't even charge for the labor. Most mechanics would add on unnecessary charges and not be honest about what your car needs /doesn't need. Murph is not most mechanics. Highly recommend Murph over anyone else in the Boston area. read more

Murph is the best! Down to earth, friendly and honest! Won't take steer you wrong. I brought my car in for a recall at the dealership. They came back with a laundry list of things to fix. I didn't feel there was anything wrong with my car so I brought it to Murph who kept it real. I'll always come back. Very trustworthy shop! read more

Been here couple of times after reading the reviews. It's hard to find a nice mechanic, and I'm glad that I found them. They have done good job for me, once to replace radiator and for brakes... these are big budget items, and they did a good job for me... I'm glad the reviews are correct, and I'm happy with their service so far... read more

Brought my car (2007 Subaru Legacy) in for a new Timing Belt. Murph suggested I replace some other items at the same time (water pump, tensioner, etc) which is the right thing to do. I know a good amount about cars and was going to have those replaced at the same time anyway, so good on him for suggesting it. I brought my car in before work and it was done by 3pm and the final price was exactly has quoted ($1,000 which is totally fair for this job). Not only that, but as a courtesy for me they took my car to another shop around the corner to get my new inspection sticker so I didnt need to do it on my own time (I asked them to inspect it but they don't offer inspections, but were happy to get it done around the corner at no labor charge). Also I had some old tires in the trunk I needed to get rid of and they disposed of them free of charge. All in all, I agree with other reviews here in that the shop was 100% fair and professional, and will definitely be where I take my Subaru for any future needs. read more

I brought my car to car zone when one of my tires got a nail in it. I was in and out in 20 mins and he didn't charge me a dime!

Murph and his team are nice. Labor fees charged is kind of reasonable (quoted $400 for front wheel hubs and bearings + driver's side axle replacement - which should take about 2 hrs). He suggested us to buy the parts ourselves to save on parts costs. (if all work including parts are done there, it would cost $260 per side for front wheel bearing and hub replacement, and $450 for driver's side front axle replacement - total of $970). Online, oem replacement parts would cost around $100-150 total. But since we're pressed on time and he said he's going to use genuine Toyota parts (or "will order them from Toyota"), we decided to let him source the parts (for $570). Few hours later, work is done. Growling noises reduced significantly, but what's disappointing is, we don't see that he's really using genuine Toyota parts. Would give 5 starts if parts used are genuine Toyota's as promised. read more

My Honda Fit got a very, very flat tire. It was a freezing cold day, in the middle of a pandemic, and the Car Zone staff found the nail in my tire and fixed it quickly. Then they wouldn't let me pay--they said I'd already had a rough morning and they were just happy to help. Unbelievably wonderful service! read more

I have taken my Ford Fusion to them twice. Once to change the break rotors and second time to get the AC fixed. Both times they kept the car initially to look into it and then eventually said they are unable to do these things as I have to take my car to ford to get them done. I think they just don't deal with Ford fusions. Because subsequently I took my car to a different mechanic and got those things done. Did not have to go to Ford for either. They have nice staff and all but I could have saved time if they just told me they don't deal with Ford Fusion. read more

I was looking for a new oil change place because the place convenient for me by work went under (sears auto). The problem with most service stations is that they are run by people who don't really care. They take hours to get routine services done and they usually have a bad attitude. Carzone is different. It's a family run place where service is fast and friendly. I came here a month ago for the first time for an oil change ($30) and rotation ($20). I thought the rotation was a little on the high side but was willing to try this place out because of the good reviews. I made an appt, dropped my car off, went to lunch and it was ready afterwards. I'm a trust but verify kind of guy and everything checked out. Then recently I ran over some glass or something because I had a small leak in one of my tires. I called up to make an appt and they said just drop it off anytime before 2pm. Again it was fast and friendly service and they patched my tire for no charge. Amazing! While there my girlfriend was asking about adding freon to her car and how much it would cost. Murph said $80 which is a very reasonable price, but then he also said that she could just go to autozone and get a can of it for $20 and fill it up herself if she wanted to save some money. Neither of us has yet looked into how easy it is to do that but we appreciate that kind of honesty as most places want to charge you excessively for even simple services like changing a tail light or air filter. My girlfriend now plans on taking her car to this place for all her service needs as well. read more

Murphy does an amazing job explaining how things work and doesn't rip off anyone in the process. So long as I live in Massachusetts I'll always go here and recommend it. read more

Murph & his crew replaced the clutch on my 96 Integra with an Exedy - so far, so good. What blew me away was that Murph knew that the otherwise great Exedy kit comes with a garbage pilot bearing (I had bought a separate SKF pilot bearing for them to use). Crazy that he knew that random detail about a random aftermarket part for one of many, many types of cars they service. I love working on cars & any type of machine, but when time is tight, I'm happy I can take my car to someone else who also seems to love working on machines & gets the details. read more

Murph Thongsythavong is the man. His business deserves all of the five star ratings it's received. He got me in a moments notice not always possible, I know), and did a fantastic job. I found this place on Yelp, and based on the reviews I decided to take my car there. The guy that helped me was kind. The service that I requires was the 80000 check, he told me it is simple: oil change, filters change, tire rotation. Unfortunately they took the oil back and only filled with 1/4 of the oil tank capacity, I took the car out of it and one mile away the oil and engine sign lighted in the dashboard. I called them, they tow the car back to the place and fill the tank with enough oil, this to me seems like a rookie mistake. read more

Six stars. The reviews are well-deserved. Granted, I had a simple problem, but this place is awesome. Here's a summary of my visit. You can read the narrative below if you want more. --Garage-to-greet time: 5 mins --Greet-to-jack time: 5 mins --Jack-to-diagnosis time: 5 mins --Diagnosis-to-resolution time: 10 mins --Charge: NONE I pulled up to the garage and was promptly greeted. The place was pretty busy, but the technician came over and inquired about my problem within 5 minutes. I told him I had a slow leak in my tire and he immediately asked his colleague -- who was actually working on another car -- to take a look. My car was up on the jack and my tire was off the rim and under inspection in another 5 mins. I walked around to fill my other tires with (free) air, and by the time I got back to the front of the car, the mechanic had found the nail in my treads. He told me to get a cup of coffee and by the time I returned he'd have it patched up. I don't drink coffee, but I went across the street to the convenience store and bought a soda. Lo and behold, my car was being jacked down as I walked back to the shop. The tech said "have a nice day" and I looked at him, bemused. He then said "I'm glad we could help" with great sincerity and walked away. Frigging bizarre! They didn't want to charge me! I gave him a generous tip (can it be called a tip if there's no charge?) and left. Yay. I was in a good mood the rest of the day. read more

I have to tell you - I HATE taking my car to the mechanic. Back when I was making more regular trips back to New York, I would let my dad take it to "his guy" so I wouldn't have to worry about it. But over the last couple of years, I've been trying out the whole "grown up" thing (overrated) and have been taking my car to get serviced on my own. I've tried a couple of places around town, though luckily I haven't needed much in the way of car repairs. Fast forward to yesterday. The annoying (but harmless sounding) whirring on my front right side turned into a GRINDING noise. Ruh roh. I checked around on Yelp and saw that Car Zone, which is conveniently located right near my office in Kendall, had some pretty great reviews. Usually I go on recommendations from friends, but I decided to roll the dice and give them a try. Wade greeted me and I let him know what was up. I asked if they could look into my tire alignment. He told me that they didn't really do that, but he'd drive it around to check it out. Murph called me two hours later to let me know that I needed new brake pads, rotors and calipers. Bummer, but pretty much what I had expected. He also let me know that he checked out my tires and was very patient while I asked him various questions about my brakes, the cost, and what exactly they were doing. I dropped the car off at 8:30am and had it back in my possession by 4:30pm - not too shabby. My car sounds great and I no longer have to listen/feel the metal on metal of my brakes. WIN! And the BEST PART? As I was driving away, one of the mechanics looked at me and said "Hey, I noticed that your license plate was being held on with wire, I fixed that for you!". AWESOME! It sounds ridiculous, but it's the little things that really make an experience positive for me. They definitely didn't HAVE to fix it. It's something that I'm sure only took a couple of minutes but that made me incredibly happy. read more

Extremely unhappy with my experience. Would not recommend under any circumstances. I brought my car into Car Zone for an oil change a few months ago (I just started yelping). I figured I'd give the place a shot considering it is around the corner from my apartment. After dropping the car off and grabbing a coffee across the street, I happily returned, paid my bill, and got into my car to drive away. Immediately upon putting my foot on the brake, I realized something was wrong. After looking under the car, I noticed a large pool of brake fluid. I alerted the staff to this issue and after putting my car back on the lift, it was determined that during the oil change process, the staff had somehow blew my brake line. While it is true that the line was old and prone to failure, I cannot understand how the staff managed to blow it in 10 minutes during an oil change, considering I drive the car to work every day without issue. Worse yet, the staff consciously decided not to tell be about the issue before I got into the car and attempted to drive away without brakes. I wonder if they would take responsibility for the ensuing accident? I doubt it. End of story, the staff offered to fix the problem THEY caused for $300 which I found even more insulting so I took the car elsewhere and had it fixed for less. I HIGHLY caution against visiting this business, even for the most trivial issues. read more

Murf and his team are great. Since I work nearby, I brought my mom's car in for an oil change and it was done in no time. The oil usually gets changed at the dealership but they make you wait for hours and I'm not waiting that long ever again. Murf told me that he doesn't usually read the reviews but I asked him to please read mine. He is super friendly, honest and will help you with any type of car needs. Other notes: -Accepts cc -Quick service -Damn near everyone from my high school brings their car here. People I haven't seen in years that swear by Murf. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Update 8/11/2015: I now bring all of my family cars here due to dishonest work being done at Mass Ave Gulf aka Junior's (see review). read more

Car Zone is the "Cheers" of auto repair places in Boston - everybody knows your name and you're always glad you came. Well, as glad as you can be when it's car repairing time. So forgive my speech, but there is no bullshit here. And that's exactly what I need when dealing with car stuff, it's already stressful enough. For starters, everyone is so friendly and accommodating. And not in that 'oh, come sit in my waiting room and drink my coffee while you stress out knowing that with each passing second that's another dollar you can add to the cost of your repair but hey the coffee is free' way that means absolutely NOTHING to me when all I want to do is get my car fixed and leave. No, none of that. Murph and team at Car Zone let you watch, every step of the way, making the repairs and costs MUCH easier to digest. The stupid 'waiting room' wall is taken down and you get walked through the price of each part and labor cost and actually get to learn about your car. Of course, you can sit down and wait all of 5 minutes if you must... yeah, 5 minutes. These guys are masters at their trade, not salesmen looking for every possible thing they can tell you that you 'absolutely must fix' when you know you don't. No bullshit. I love it. I also love that every time I'm there, I see at least 3 or 4 different people handing their keys to Murph saying they'll be back later. The comfort -- the ease -- both things you don't associate with car repairs. At least, I don't. I normally punch holes into walls while I wait. Anyways, I figured it was time to sing my Car Zone praises after doing the exact same thing for the entire weekend -- handing my keys over and not worrying about what they'll do to it or how much it'll cost -- knowing it will be ready when I come back later. And it was, it always is. This is hands down the best place to take your car for services in the entire Metro Boston area. Hell, even if I lived in a different state, I'd probably come back here. read more

Very, very impressed with Murph at Car Zone. My husband and I are from California and before we left on our cross-country road trip, I brought the car into a local mechanic for an oil change and inspection. He informed me that that back struts were leaking and that I needed to get the struts and strut mounts replaced. They didn't have the parts immediately in stock, so we didn't get to it before we left on our trip. We brought our car into Car Zone to have the struts replaced, figuring they must have gotten pretty bad during the 3,000 miles we put on during our trip. Murph insisted that he inspect the car and see what was wrong before ordering and working on the struts. He found that they were completely fine and told us so! The other mechanic quoted me $600 to replace struts that didn't need replacing but Murph inspected the car, was completely honest with us about what he found, and even readjusted our tire pressure for us for free. What a guy! Definitely would recommend Car Zone if you need honest car service in the area. read more

Worse than nothing I came here based or personal recommendations from multiple coworkers about the honesty and quality of work. I dropped my working car off for routine maintenance of brake pads and oil change. Car was returned broken. Now it stalls at every stoplight. I took the car back next working day, explained the problem. They were unable fix it. I now have to go to another mechanic and pay them to fix what these guys broke. On top of that my wife's Iphone disappeared from the car while they had it. Of course, they never saw it and don't know anything about it. Needless to say, I'm very frustrated with these guys and won't be back. read more

My car had been making an intimidating scraping noise for a few weeks that I wanted to get checked out before a long drive. I brought it, left for about 45 min, and when I returned, Murph said "here is your key, and here is your gift!" And handed me a small rock that was responsible for all the noise. He told me to have a good day and did not charge me a cent. I will ABSOLUTELY be back when there is a (real) problem with my car. Thanks for the laugh and all the help Car Zone, you rock!! read more

***ADDRESS CORRECTION*** 486 Columbia St Somerville, MA Every now and then you meet someone who restores faith in humanity again, Murph is one of these people I had an oil change done a month ago but my car has a record of leaking transmission oil so I went to Murph for an oil change. His team spent 30-45 minutes: -Cleaning out the rust from the metal pipe -Refilling it with transmission oil -Tightening my steering wheel Murph himself assured me that nothing was leaking by showing me the mechanics of the car. He said a car is only supposed to get a oil change every 30,000 miles so he did it all free of charge. You really can't find a mechanic more honest than Murph. read more

Based on other reviews, when I needed new brakes, I decided to give Car Zone a try. My dealership had given me a ridiculously high quote (surprise!). Before I even walked away from Car Zone, Murph and his team took a look at my current brakes and showed me that I needed my rotors replaced as well. It's not uncommon to replace rotors alongside the brakes, but I appreciated them SHOWING me. They gave me a reasonable quote (much better than the dealership), and had my car ready for me that evening. Everyone was very friendly. My only issue was that the closing time meant I had to hustle back from work to pick up the car before they left. 5 or 5:30pm. Understandable, but tricky if you're dropping off your car just while at work. I'll definitely be back here the next time I need something done for my car. read more

Murph and Wade at Carzone have earned my trust and repeated business by providing excellent service on my Acura for the past two years. I recently brought my car in when a check engine light came on. Wade checked the computer, asked me some questions, and told me that the problem was most likely that the sensor responded to a slight rise in engine temperature on a recent particularly hot day. He turned off the light and told me to keep an eye on it, but its probably fine. No charge. Another time, my radiator was replaced by a garage in New York, but leaked when the car was back in Boston. Murph looked under the hood, noticed that some cable wasn't sealed properly, took a few minutes to fix it, and sent me on my way. No charge, he said. Don't worry about it. When they've had to do larger repairs, Carzone was fast, they communicated well, they treated me respectfully and charged me fairly. I am happy to take my car there, and enthusiastically recommend that other Honda owners do the same. read more

This place rules. I recommend it to everyone I know. I don't trust auto repair shops in general - which is a solid instinct, they can and will bilk you - but this is an exception. Murph is great! As a female, I HATE dealing with mechanics and car sales people (usually men). I brought in my 2004 Honda and told him what I needed: check on panel lights, change oil and an inspection. He told me up front he does not do inspections, but offered to take my car down the street to another shop that did! WHAT A TIME SAVER! That alone earned him 5 stars. He called back later to say that he had changed the oil and secured the inspection, but that the dealer would have to fix the panel lights (uggg). I told him I would be in later to pick up my car, but got caught up at work (and lost track of time). He called at 5:30 pm (when he closes) to check if I was still coming because he was willing to wait! What a guy! I will never take my car to another place as long as I live in Boston (except to the dealer to fix the panel light...ugggg). read more
