Murph is the the most honest, authentic auto repair person I have ever met. I could not recommend Car Zone enough. He will take care of small problems without asking for hardly anything . And if your car does have issues, he will find the most affordable option. He is friendly and will always bring you out to your car in the garage to show you what issues the car may have. And he will tell you in layman's terms and make absolutely sure that you are aware of what is going on with your car. I wouldn't dare taking my car anywhere else ever again! read more

The reviews are true, finally found my mechanic. The team is really wonderful, kind, and efficient.

I've been coming here for a while. I recently went to a different mechanic, for a factory recall, which reminded me of how good Car Zone was. I thought I'd post a review. This is a small shop. The owner is fair and honest. If I don't need a repair, they'll tell me. If I can replace something myself, he'll let me know as well. If I should get something done elsewhere, or buy a part myself, he'll let me know too. The prices are honest. Everything is honest. And friendly. He's got my back, so I keep coming back. It operates just like a shop ought to operate. read more

My daughter is going to school in Boston (we live in CA) and her catalytic converter was stolen from her car. Ugh!!! We had the car towed here due to the reviews and proximity to where the car was. They were kind enough to wait for the insurance claim to be settled (about a week) and got her car fixed and back on the road quickly. Communication was excellent. We are appreciative of the owner's help at a difficult time. read more

Murph is back in business! He's now at 166 Boston Ave., Somerville, same phone number. Most honest and wonderful mechanic! Being a woman, I felt I was getting overcharged and lied to by other shops, took an auto maintenance class to be a smarter customer and I was right, I was being ripped off by other mechanics around town! Luckily, I was referred to Murph, I only wish I found him sooner, he is truly the only one I trust now with my car care. He does great work, fair prices, and just an all around great guy! read more

Great place reliable service ! The owner is frank and honest. Highly recommended. Been using this place for years

Believe the hype! The reviews for this place are suspiciously positive and once you meet Murph, you'll understand why. He's awesome, knowledgeable, and has a lot of integrity. The world needs more people like Murph in the world. This is a no-frills, no-BS shop with a small-town vibe. When I drop my car off, I am confident it will get fixed correctly and I will be charged appropriately. Murph is friendly, kind, hard-working, and instills a lot of confidence I went to the right place. As a complete stranger, he makes you feel like an old family friend. I live far away and go through a lot of inconvenience to go to Car Zone because it's worth it. The world needs more places like this. read more

Made an appointment with Murph to drop off my car for an oil change. They didn't carry Liqui Moly so they let me bring in my own oil and filter. They ended up having some availability this morning and got me in out in less than a half hour, including plugging a slow leak in one of my tires. All for only $20! Would definitely recommend. read more

I brought my car in for a driveshaft and exhaust install. Murph and his team did a great job putting this together and communication was perfect. The next day, I found my vehicle had some whining noises and identified that I had a power steering leak. I brought my car back to car zone, and Murph told me he forgot to mention I had a power steering leak before I left. He told me it was leaking for a while and would be expensive to fix. Now, my car was running perfectly before this, and I had brought my car to a reputable tuner shop a month earlier and I'm sure those guys would have identified a leak. This whole situation is a nightmare now because I'll have to wait to make an appointment with the reputable shop to see what can be done about this. I will not be bringing my car back to this place, and the search will have to continue for a reliable mechanic in the Boston area for my needs. Caution: Do not bring your vehicle here! read more

Great service! I had a crew in my tire, they fixed it for free for me. I appreciate the work. Thanks read more

I had an amazing experience here, truly blown away by the excellent service. Came in for a check up before a big road trip to make sure everything was good to go. They were honest and upfront about what I needed and didn't need. Ended up not needing any additional services so I was not charged at all. Murph was very friendly and informative and took the time to answer all of my questions. Came in on a Wednesday morning (called the day before) and it was not busy--in and out in 10 minutes. There's also a spacious waiting room with strong AC on a humid summer day. So happy to have found my go-to mechanic in Boston. Definitely coming back and would highly recommend to anyone! read more

My guys..fast, courteous, car enthusiasts. We had a nice convo while they did my synthetic oil change. They even adjusted my tire air pressure without my asking. Great service. I'll be back. read more

Murph at Car Zone is great! Honest, and reasonable pricewise, too. Note: due to his building on Columbia St. near Union Square being sold by his landlord in 2022, he has moved. He has at least a one-year lease at an old gas station at 166 Boston Ave, Somerville, at the intersection with Rte 16. It's about 10-11 easy blocks from the new green line T stop at Medford/Tufts, and on a major bus line. His phone # is still the same - 617-576-9663. read more

Great value and super nice. Only issue I have is making an appointment is a little frustrating. Just wish their website and ease of scheduling was better. read more

Brought in my car for an oil change and they said it would be $80! This is an absolute rip off. The employees are dishonest. A quart of oil is $6 maximum and labor takes only 10 minutes tops! Total scam read more

Very nice to do business with- honest, cooperative, very efficient and very fair pricing.

I was looking for a place to get an oil change on Yelp and after reading some negative reviews for businesses, I started reading reviews for Car Zone. The praise and gratitude for Murph's work and his business ethic helped me so much. Great service and prices, friendly and honest advice... I will be back and I will tell friends they need to bring their car here. I had an appointment, but arrived late due to heavy traffic. Murph had me in and out in less than 20 minutes for an oil change. Thanks Murph!!! read more

Highly recommend this place. I brought my car here after taking it to another local mechanic who gave me an extremely high estimate and the team at car zone was really helpful. They brought me into the garage and walked me through each step of evaluating the car - which is really great for someone like me who knows nothing about cars in the first place. Turns out the other place was completely wrong and these guys helped me get my car up and running at a muuuuuch lower cost. I'll be coming back the next time I need a mechanic! read more

Came in here once without an appointment due to a flat tire. The owner (I believe) took me on the spot, repaired my tire, and refused to take my money since it was a small job. Although the shop was busy and he was working on other things, he took the time to provide me with a stellar experience. I will not go to another mechanic or auto shop. Just came in for an oil change and was in and out within 30 minutes. CarZone is an honest auto shop with affordable pricing, quick work, and stellar service. 10/10. They've earned me business for the long haul! read more

Always gives you honest and great advice on work that needs to be done. Murph has been great to our family's cars for a long time.

After a heavy storm, plenty of snow got plowed into our car in an effort to clear the streets quickly. The next day, our car was shaking while driving at high speeds; we figured the alignment was now off. When we called Car Zone, though they do not do alignments, we were given great service nonetheless as he listened to our issue and realized that we were simply dealing with snow-melt stuck in our tires/car and recommended a car wash instead. This saved us a good amount of time and money, and we so appreciate his honesty! We will be back should we run in to more car problems! read more

This place is epic! Been here 4 times for various issues on my girlfriend's Ford Focus, always insanely good service and work. This afternoon I dropped by with a damaged bumper and mud guard, Murph refused to accept payment (??!) so I gave a tip instead for the mechanic who expertly fixed the problems. Will recommend this gem to all my friends!! read more

Murph has helped my family with our cars for years (Fords, Subarus, Chevys). He is honest, transparent, and a lovely person to work with. I would never go anywhere else for car repairs or advice -- big or small. read more

very honest brought my own parts good prices compared to other mechanics murph knows his stuff would recommend to everybody

There are repair shops closer to my home but I use this Car Zone instead because they're trustworthy and reliable. Worth every penny.

Best place to go to in Boston! Murph is friendly, efficient, and knowledgable. I came here twice to fix small things in my car. The first time, it was to diagnose an odd noise emanating from the car. Within minutes of examining my car, Murph knew what was wrong with it. He fixed the problem free of charge and I have not had this problem ever since. While I was there, I also told him that a dealership mechanic recently informed me that I had a power steering problem - a problem he discovered on an regular maintenance check. To fix it, it would cost ~$1000. I was suspicious about this as I had never had a problem with steering. I asked Murph if he agreed with this diagnosis and after checking my car, he found no problem. And you know what? I have not had a problem 1 year on from this. The second time, the rubber insert in my windshield wiper came loose. He not only told me where I should buy a replacement, but also how much it should cost. He then replaced my insert free of charge. I don't know any other mechanic who would do this. I definitely will come back here in the future. People are honest and give an accurate diagnosis. read more

I came here after my check engine light went on unexpectedly the other day. I've had a bunch of engine work on my car recently so this worried me. That and my usual go-to auto repair shop closed :-( They were able to get me in right away and were very accommodating. I ended up needing an oil change and to top off my brake fluid too (unrelated). After a quick diagnostic the guys gave me some comprehensive advice and they were able to clear the engine light. Nothing as terrible as I'd feared, the engine was still okay (I needed a filter replaced) :-D Although they said it could take up to two hours to do all this they let me wait in their small front room and even let me use their WiFi while I waited. A lovely surprise that they were able to finish everything much quicker than expected, it took less than an hour. The price was very reasonable and the guys were all friendly and helpful. Love chatting with them about our mutual love of MINI Coopers :-) I will definitely be returning! read more

These guys are amazing. Simple, quick, reliable service. Went to get an oil change. They immediately noticed something wrong with the seal on the filter that I had bought. Replaced the seal, made sure everything was good to go and sent me on my way. I would refer Car Zone to anyone and everyone. read more

Several friends sing their praises but I hadn't been until today. I made a quick call in advance to see if they repaired flat tires. Alex said I could drive right over. Upon arriving, he quickly took my flat, plugged it, removed the spare and put the fixed tire back on within minutes. He then checked and balanced all of my tires AND filled up my spare before replacing it in my trunk. Amazing. And, no charge. Had to leave a review to confirm they're just as great as everyone says. I'll be back for all future car service needs for sure! read more

Once again, like every time I got there. Murph and his team are just awesome. Would trust them with all of my car needs! Thank you Murph!

Omg. Murph and his team are awesome! My first experience was a year ago when our car was making intermittent noise; we brought it to Car zone to have it checked out to make sure it was ready for our annual Xmas trip back to the Midwest; he checked it out and found nothing wrong - I expected (and really felt like I SHOULD) pay something for their time, but Murph refused to charge me anything. Ok, awesome.... must be a fluke, right? nope! Today I needed my tire plugged (drove over a nail and I couldn't get the rougher in myself to plug it myself) .. Brought it to Murph, he immediately checked it out, roughed and plugged it. Good as new! While he was doing this it occurred to me I needed an oil change, so he did that as well with my ad hoc ask. When I went to pay, he just charged me for the oil change, and wouldn't take anything for the tire plug! I guess next time I'm going to have to bring cash so I can just throw it at him and run out. Anyhow, I guess this can be summarized as: don't expect free work, but Murph is awesome, incredibly nice, accommodating, and isn't out to make a buck off you. If this were an eBay review, car zone would get an: A+++ 5STAR A+++ A+++ rating! read more

Murphy is the man! He will be honest with you and give you the best price he can. Even if you don't know a lot about cars you can trust him.

After my first few positive experiences with Murph and his team, I sent my sister who had just purchased a used vehicle to Murph to have it checked out. It didn't seem to have any issues but I figured it was worth it to have someone who I trusted to take a look just in case, even if it came at a cost. Murph (or one of his guys) identified a leak in the drive axel and again refused to take payment for the inspection. He sent me pictures of the issue so we could show them to the people where we bought the car to help get it fixed. We brought it in to the dealer where we bought it and they agreed it needed to be replaced and did so without cost to us. Once again, Murph saved a customer probably hundreds and future headaches. Incredible what this guy is doing. read more

Best customer service and honest, reasonable prices! Highly recommend!

Owner is a piece of s***** scamming people. He told me we put only original parts from Toyota. One of brake calipers went bad and he recommend to change both of them and it will be 2 front calipers, 2 front brake pads, 2 front rotors, flushed brake fluid and 1 lug nut stud for only $1380 and i was shocked. I asked him why its so cheap for oRiginal Toyota parts and he said we buy straight from Toyota so much and we get lowest prices but now it's confirmed by Toyota dealer that they put aftermarket parts and one of calipers was spray painted so they didn't even replaced one of calipers. What a scammer. Please see the pictures of calipers and they were replaced same day by them read more

I noticed my tire was losing air so I had to find a repair shop to fix my issue. After looking over reviews I chose this spot. I called Murph first thing in the morning and he was able to fit me in same day. They were able to locate a small nail and patch up the spot. He would not charge me anything. What a great guy !! I will definitely be going back with any future needs. Now I don't have to worry about constantly filling up my tires. Highly recommend ! read more

Honest, knowledgeable, and affordable--the most important qualities you can ask for in a mechanic, and Car Zone has all three. I did a 90k checkup with these guys after getting a once-over from the dealership. The dealership of course printed out a diagnostic that listed all sorts of things needing to be replaced (totaling almost a thousand dollars), but the guys at Car Zone took me into the shop and showed me exactly what was wrong with the car--their independent estimate was less than half the cost (without having seen the dealer's estimate), and the owner showed me each part and explained how its condition was either fine or needing replacement. These guys are trustworthy and know their stuff. My wife's aging Toyota has been trucking along for the past couple years without issues as a result. If you're in Somerville and you need a trustworthy mechanic, this is the shop! P.S: He also knows lots of reliable experts in the area. He gave me advice about a paint job as well as a locksmith. The paint job turned out great and I'm headed to his locksmith next. Thanks again! read more

I've been going here for years with 3 different cars. Honest work. Good people. I don't think they're open on Saturday anymore, which is unfortunate. read more

So far, in last few years, I went several times to Murph in a Car Zone and the service was uniformly good. It is quick, reliable and if smaller thing, they fixed it right away and did not charge me. Often what I needed was only an expert advice and Murph provided it. I can tell that, at this moment, this is a relationship as it should be - a relationship of mutual trust. My experience is that Car Zone is providing a model service for a moderate price, so I don't have to think about where to go to fix the car, and they know that I will always go to their place for my car mechanic needs. I only wish to have a plumber and electrician like that. read more
