I do NOT recommend this place. I was a few weeks out from making multiple long drives and wanted to ensure my car was in top shape. I had been hearing a rattling in the front of the car and also wanted my brakes looked at. I was given an appointment and brought my car in. Someone took my car for a drive, came back, and he said to me "your brakes are fine, I don't know what you think you're hearing. Bring it back if it gets worse." They didn't actually even LOOK at the brakes like I had requested. I was still concerned about my car and knew there was something wrong, and brought it to a different shop. This place actually looked at the car as well as drove it and found that needed all new front brakes, calipers, and struts. Well over $1000 worth of work. I'm glad I was able to give that place my money with their efforts and thoroughness. I will never bring my car to Smooth Automotive again. read more

I've only visited Smooth Auto a few times as I recently moved to Arlington, for an oil change and brake changes. Lately they're definitely getting busier to book appointments but their services have been excellent from my experience. After the new brakes it was making screeching sounds at time and they took the time to diagnostic and fixed the issues no problem at all which I very appreciated. The staff here when I call or talk to are always very professional and courteous. I've waited for a couple hours during the oil change too and its got some very nice seats and coffee definitely made the wait to seem go by much quicker. If you need car services definitely give them a try very highly recommended. read more

I previously raved about the service here. I am writing once more to further rave about the service. After my tire installation, I started noticing a clunking sound. I tried to ignore it and just assumed it was from the new tires, but after 5,000 miles, the clunking sound remained. I showed up to Smooth Automotive around noon. At this point in time, they were flooded with customers. Despite this, they quickly examined and test drove my vehicle. They determined that nothing was loose or hitting itself on my vehicle, but that my problem was possibly due to my suspension, which was still under factory warranty. Despite being unable to make money off me on a repair, they still declined payment for the diagnostic service they performed. My BMW X3 needed a front brake pad changed and they did it fast and the price was extremely great. 2 other places including a dealer quoted me something which was extremely high but they charged me perfectly as I knew what it would have costed me. Tried Smooth Automotive for the first time based on feedback from my nephew's experience with them. I have 4 new Pirelli tires and an alignment done. Lowest price around as I got estimates from my dealership and other tire companies in the area. Got an appointment on the date/time I requested. Service was very straightforward, no games and cost changes. My bill was what was quoted. They do quality and timely work. Not just tires but many other car related needs. Overcharging for a tire repair for someone who doesn't know isn't good business.

Hands down this is the best mechanic you can go to in the area. They recently expanded their facility and they are and they're still booking a week out for good reason. They do great work and are completely honest. They are the sort of mechanics who will tell you when you don't need to get things fixed. As someone who knows little about cars, I I've never once felt in the eight years I have come here that they are trying to convince me to get work done that doesn't need to get done. And even with all of their business they are still willing to to help you out in a pinch day of like filling your tires with air or analyzing a check engine light. And often they'll do it for free. They have a comfortable waiting area, with magazines, and free coffee and tea while you wait. There's a reason this place has all 5 star reviews! I've been here a few times over the years for tires and always had a great experience. The guy who works the counter, Brandon, is super nice and goes out of his way to help you out. If you're waiting for your car, he keeps you updated on the progress. Oh, and their prices match Tire Rack! Good luck finding another local tire dealer that can even get close to that! Both times I bought new tires, I called in the morning and had new tires on my car by 3pm. These guys do honest, reliable work at a fair price. They only have one lift so depending on what you want done, it may take a few days for an appointment BUT it's worth the wait. read more

The absolute best! I had a bubble in my tire and panicked since Thanksgiving was the next day and everyone would be closed. They fit me in the schedule, were kind, helpful, and thoroughly explained everything. Just the nicest guys running this business. They have coffee, tea, and Netflix while you wait! Look, no one wakes up on a bright, sunny morning with iced Dunkies in hand and a song in their heart and says, "Boy, I sure can't wait to take my vehicle to get serviced today! What an absolute joy!" unless you're already in a psych ward and the injection they gave you so you'd stop biting the underpaid nurse's eyeballs out is starting to wear off. It's a chore. You go here because something bad has happened or you're trying to prevent something bad from happening. At most places, you have to walk in like you're the new guy in prison and you're wondering who'll be the first person to stab you in the back. Between overpriced services, shit you don't need, stuff mysteriously breaking after someone supposedly fixes something else, and everyone in the place knowing that you don't have the first clue what you actually need, most shops are nightmares, no matter if they're the fancy ones attached to dealerships or the holes-in-the-walls scattered around. These guys, though? Game changers. You walk in and Brandon knows who you are. First time? Haven't been there in three years? Changed names? Changed cars? Changed genders? Doesn't matter. Brandon knows who you are. And he's genuinely happy to see you. I don't know what sort of psychic powers he has, but I'm convinced the reason he isn't in charge of diplomatic relations for the government is that war would end and we'd have to find a new use for bullets. He asks about your car and you feel like you're missing a couple of beers and an order of chips and salsa between you. Handing over keys will never feel more natural. And then that's it. You hang out in the comfy waiting area (that you can totally snooze in because it's seriously that comfy) and then whatever was wrong is perfect again. And it's affordable as hell. I feel like this is a repair shop from another dimension where everything is backwards and the spa is where you go to be miserable but the car shop is where you go for good vibes. Either way, this place is a rare gem. And to add a more serious note for my LGBT+ family, this place is safe. I'm a fairly effeminate gay trans guy and I have always felt genuinely safe and respected here. So yeah. Go see these folks. I'm never taking any vehicle I own anywhere else. read more

They treated me amazing, and replaced my two front tires at a reasonable price. They were very accommodating. They didn't try to upsell anything. Here's what I adore about Frank and his staff at Smooth Automotive. They are honest, communicative, and never try to sell me something I don't need. I've taken my 2003 Subaru Forester to Frank since I moved to Somerville in 2012. Frank has not only kept my aging car in great shape (no small feat given New England winters) but, when my car does need work, he explains why and what's going on without condescension or salesmanship. This place is an easy walking distance from my home, but that's not why they're awesome. They are VERY friendly and honest. If you order tires that they don't think are good enough, they'll recommend to you different ones--even if they're cheaper. I went here to replace two tires that had nails in them and were leaking air. The prices were very fair for the labor, they were friendly and courteous, and hands down was one of the best if not the best automotive repair experiences I've ever had. I actually ENJOYED going there, very pleasant experience! I will definitely be coming back to them in the future when I have to replace the other two tires which I plan on doing sometime this year. I've used Smooth Automotive three times and these guys are fantastic. Fast service. Friendly staff. Even the guys in the garage are cordial and friendly. Not something you see everyday. The prices are reasonable too. I left the car in front of the garage on Sunday (they were closed) because there was a nail on my rear right passenger tire. I didn't want to leave it in front of my house in fear of having a flat tire the next day. I left a note on the windshield as well as a voicemail explaining why I left the car there. I had an appointment for changing coolant and headlight today at 10 and I arrived around 10:30. He took care of my car while I waited there. Frank was soooo helpful! As an extremely inexperienced driver, I backed up into a pole (:-s) and my front bumper fell off. We took it to a nearby mechanic, who impatiently told us that they had no space for us. Because it was so late (nearly 10 pm), we left the car at our friend's driveway where the incident happened. I went home and consulted yelp, who let me know Smooth Auto is only 0.8 miles away! :) On sat morning I called right at 9AM when Smooth Auto opened, and Frank (who sounded so sweet and polite on the phone) was able to take us in right away. I explained to him what happened and asked for an oil change, tune up and state inspection. Frank was super helpful throughout the process and when we returned in 5 hours, everything's beautifully done! All the staff there were professional and friendly.
