Murph is amazing. Someone from my church recommended me to him a few years ago and I always go to him for repairs now. He is so honest and trustworthy. One time I was hearing a noise everytime I drove my car. I asked him to take a look and after he did, he told me what it was and said, "you could pay around $800 to get it fixed...or if you are okay with the noise, you don't need to replace that because it is not putting you in danger." So I didn't. Most recently I had someone that did my oil change tell me I needed new rear brake pads and rotors and give me the amount it would cost if they were to do the repair. I told Murph what they said and he gave me a lower estimate for the same work. I took my car to him and about 20 minutes after I dropped it off, he called me and said I could return to the shop to pick up my car because my brakes were like new and did not need to be replaced! The other shop that had done my oil change (Eli's in Arlington) was obviously trying to make some money off of me. Highly highly recommend! read more

My usual mechanic was pretty booked up and I needed a transmission fluid change. Luckily I live close enough to Car Zone at their new location where its walking distance. I called them up and Murph was very nice to fit me in their schedule within couple of days. On the day of the appointment I got a time estimate around 12 noon but he was finished before 11am very efficient. I was quite surprised he actually sent me a video of the fluid coming out too at first I thought it was a scam number lol. Murph is great. He's been servicing my car for 6+ years. He's fair, friendly and helpful, and he always offers cost-saving options when the dealer wants an arm and a leg for parts that Murph knows I can get elsewhere for much less. Multiple times he's suggested that I order the needed parts online -- and told me exactly how and what to get -- and then he installed them. BTW, his shop moved to Boston Avenue (at Alewife Brook Parkway) about a year ago when the building's landlord sold to developers. He currently rents shop space inside "Sam's Gas". I got an oil change, brakes, AC recharge, replaced struts, and repaired front grille today. I hope he's able to find a more permanent shop space, but the real estate market is tough these days. The new location (near Alewife) is close to Wholefoods, which has a seating area and Wifi. The perfect example of a no bullsh*t, honest business. Have had full confidence bringing in my '08 Prius for any issues, from a routine oil change to leaking tires. Best endorsement I can give them is when I first brought my car to them in 2021 cause of a stolen cat converter as a relatively new driver, they treated me with respect and gave me multiple options for the repair that let me make the decision that fit my budget. Came to Murph for another repair job that I was nervous to do myself (would have taken hours + uncertainty). I brought parts (no need, I just had them), went to a nearby coffee shop to settle in, but within 1.5 hours I received a call saying it was done. Came back, was shown through a test drive that the problem was fixed, and got a couple of very helpful tips from Murph and his team member. Sadly, I am moving out of the area, but am excited to see his shop up and running again. They are a very busy team -- the lot was full of cars. They are amongst the few places that aren't trying to squeeze every dollar out of your car problems but instead help you back on the road while saving you the most. I am but one more voice adding to the chorus of glowing reviews for Murph. The AC on my Toyota Camry was acting up during the heat wave in Boston/Cambridge. We'd brought it to Valvoline the week beforehand to check the coolant - no problems there. Murph is obviously very busy but did a great job of juggling all of his clients, including me. After my boyfriend and I explained that we had already checked the coolant, he immediately honed in on the car compressor as the culprit. He charged nothing for the consultation fee / assessment. Repairing it would cost $1200 at a Toyota, but he advised us to purchase the part online and bring it in - he would charge for labor only. He guided us on exactly which part and brand to buy that would be reliable and was able to predict the final cost with accuracy: $200 for the part, $400 for the labor. The process was straightforward and transparent throughout - he was happy to let my engineer boyfriend watch what he was doing and explain along the way. read more

Murph at Car Zone has been extremely helpful, and always informative. I've been taking my 2009 VW to Car Zone for two years, and they've provided better service, at a lower cost, than the local dealerships. They recently replaced some valves when my engine wasn't running very smoothly. After a few days, the check engine light came back on, I brought it back, and Murph said they would send the parts back to Volkswagen, and put in replacements. After doing this multi-hour job a second time, they didn't charge me, even for the labor. Car Zone is a little out of the way, but I've found I can walk a few blocks, to Union Square or Cambridge Street, and get a bus or a blue bike, to wherever I need to be while my car is getting fixed. The only place where I called in and they quoted a lower price for having my own oil, only 20$. I was given quotes in Malden, MA from 50 to 70$ where there's little ($2) to no change in price even when oil cost 30$... I also have AC issue, which they said can only be fixed starting April (they sent off the equipment for maintenance/calibration). Seems like a legit business. read more

First of all, I never write Yelp reviews, but I felt compelled after the amazing experience I had at Car Zone. I called early in the morning about a tire with a slow leak. The person who answered the phone was very friendly and said to come right in. When I got there, he asked that I pull up and they would take a look. Alex was working in the garage, was also very friendly, and got right to work. It all happened very quickly. He took the wheel off, found the screwed in my tire, and removed it. He then repaired the tire and refused to accept a payment. I offered him $20 for a tip and he said no, but I could give it to the two younger guys he had working with him in the garage. I understand that I didn't have a huge or time-consuming repair problem, but it is so rare nowadays to find a business owner who is willing to do anything free of charge. It's called superior customer service and, to me, it is a lost art. The men at Car Zone excel at it. I will definitely be back and cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you! read more

I've been looking for a good auto person for a while. Brought my 2010 Subaru Impreza in for a general checkup and to get a passenger side pad underneath the car fixed (it had been dragging along the road before I duct taped it up :P). Came in at a little after 8am and only had to wait about 45 minutes for them to finish everything, even with one person in front of me. The team was great, surprisingly only charged me for the oil change, didn't find anything wrong with the car and didn't even charge me for the time to check the car OR for fixing the pad. I was shocked. Autozone had quoted me something like $150 and a 3 hour+ wait the last night I tried to get this fixed (hence the duct tape). Writing this review because I wanted to add to the good feelings about this place, also need to have it bookmarked for the next time my car needs any type of repair! read more
