Excellent service - quick, HONEST, and 50% cheaper than the dealer!!! (don't let the shop's appearance deter you) I needed to replace an oxygen sensor on my Toyota Tacoma. The dealer wanted to charge me $400+, but Car Zone did it for a little over $210. They used genuine Toyota parts, which retain their one year warranty. Before the repair, they read the computer codes from the "check engine" light for free (many repair shops and dealers charge up to $100 just for the diagnosis). Then they gave me an estimate and stuck to it TO THE DOLLAR. My total cost was the price of the part plus $80 in labor, which is terrific for this type or repair! The mechanic even pointed out a repair I didn't need, which other shops would have pushed. Bottom line: best auto repair experience I've ever had! read more

This place rocks. I say again, this place rocks. We all know the nature of the auto repair trade is such that a consumer is in the complete dark, helplessly at the mercy of the man with the tools. The power that auto mechanics have over us is akin to our relationship to medical practitioners in sooooooo many ways - think about it. It's not just that he could rip you off on the spot without your knowing it - it only starts there. Then there's all the other stuff he could do like, oh, I dunno, throw his scruples to the wind and mess with some otherwise undamaged part of your vehicle, knowing that you'll most likely come calling in a few months when the thing breaks down again. Or there's always the chance that he forgets to attach that one last, small bolt that's needed to keep your tire from falling off when you hit 80 mph on the highway. Moving on...Murph, the guy that runs the place, and his staff are a) honest AND b) they know what their doing under, around, behind and above the hood of your car. The world needs more Murphs. If the world had more Murphs...well, you get the idea. Case in point: I showed up on a freezing cold day, snow on the ground, with a very flat tire. One of Murph's guys comes out to the spot where I had parked, gets down on the ground and goes to town. 25 minutes later, my tire was repaired and remounted, the mechanic assures me it's as strong as new, and he responds to my question about the price with "how much you wanna pay?". I pressed him for a dollar amount and he proceeds to quote a RIDICULOUSLY low price, which I doubled and added 30% to as a tip. That was 9 months ago and my tire is still as good as the day he fixed it, all for less than $50. Any other place would have (and has) tried to sell me a new tire, charged me for labor, blah, blah, blah - in short, I could have been hosed, but I was not - far, far from it. Don't just take my word for it - read what all these other people have written about their experiences. In short: take your vehicle to Car Zone on Broadway in Cambridge for repairs; you'll sleep better knowing you did. read more

I have been taking my vehicles to Murph for just under a year - and am glad to say that he is hands down the most honest, competent and friendly mechanic I have ever worked with. Recently I needed to have my A/C system repaired, it seemed to not hold a charge. Dropped it off early on Saturday morning, then got a call around 1PM. Murph told me there were no leaks, and that in all likelihood the last time it was charged it had been done with improper equipment to a pressure level higher than what was specified by the manufacturer, which would cause the charge to leak and fail. He recharged it properly according to manufacturer spec and it seems to work fine - and he didn't charge me for it! In addition he fixed one of my windshield wipers which was not workin correctly, n/c for that either. Bottom line is that Murph takes the long view - he knows that if he treats his customers right they will be back - and they will refer others, so he will make his money back in the long run and over time. Lets face it, finding a competent, reliable mechanic you can trust is difficult. Murph is all that and more. Look no further - the Car Zone is your best bet for maintenance and repair in the Kendall/East Cambridge area. read more

These guys have always done a top-notch job on our car, and the prices are totally reasonable. And today they really made my day! A few weeks ago our car had a run-in with a fire hydrant, leaving the back bumper dented. Today we dropped the car off for an oil change and didn't mention the dent; we didn't think they did bodywork. An hour later, we were elated to find the bumper reshaped to its original form! And we were charged a grand total of $0 for the repair. Great guy who gets the job done right and goes above and beyond for customers! read more

This shop is not only a role model example for all other mechanics in the industry, but a role model of excellence in business ethics, value and service quality. I first heard about Car Zone via online reviews, and I can attest to all the comments made. Murph is your neighborhood Buddha mechanic. His work ethics come from a simple philosophy: do onto others as you would have them do unto you. He has tremendous compassion and respect for his clients because he listens to their problems and puts himself in their shoes. From within this mindset, he gives you honest advice and options from years of expertise. What I love about him is that his advice is not only honest, but also modest. His goal is to make sure you are safe and drive a reliable car, and yet you don't spend a cent on any unnecessary work. I have gone to him for many years, and in the most recent example, I had scheduled a $80 inspection of a dealer used car to help me determine whether to buy it or not. He gave the most transparent advice, had his team inspect the car, and took his time to explain everything to me, and I ended up with more advice than I came in for. And at the end he didn't even charge me for his time. I, however, felt so grateful for his truthfulness that I left the shop a voluntary donation of 50% of the inspection quote. I feel that as a community we have the choice to support these examples of honest and good business practices. I hope that Murph and his shop remain a strong and successful business benefiting many people for years and years to come. Thank you! read more

I came to Car Zone first for a pre-purchase car inspection w/o an appointment. Murph accommodated me since I was in a time crunch and did a thorough inspection explaining to me problems about the car. Anyone can say what's wrong with a car but he later drove the car and proved to me the problems he pointed out. Thanks to him, I learned what to look for and avoided a costly purchase! I didn't have him inspect my car before my purchase (due to location) but I brought my car for service and trust his service. I forgot to add, he spent 20-30 minutes for the inspection and didn't charge me! I would have gladly paid for his time. read more

Best experience I've ever had getting my car serviced! I heard about Murph and Car Zone from a friend years ago. I finally had the opportunity to try them out and I'm very happy I did. After servicing my car, as a favor Murph took it to get inspected. As long as I own a car in Cambridge they will have me as a customer. read more

I've been going to Murph and Car Zone for years! The work is top-notch and they never try to get more money out of you than what is deserved. A number of times Murph has even repaired my car for a small issue "on the house." read more

I honestly feel bad for not reviewing this place, sooner. I go to Car Zone for all of my oil changes and tire rotations and all major repairs. They always do great work at extremely fair prices, and they work fast. Also, it doesn't hurt that everyone who works there is always really friendly. If you live in or near Somerville, and your car needs maintenance or repair, you will not find a cheaper or more efficient shop. read more

Off the charts! Stumbled on other reviews, couldn't believe the hype, but went early Saturday with front-in rattle and flat tire. Already busy, but took the car in minutes, no appointment, fixed minor issues that other mechanics had ignored, replaced spare with original tire. No charge?! soon sent me on my way. Murph was gracious, savvy, efficient, explained the problem so even a PhD could understand. I'm Car Zone for life! read more

Found a nail in my tire and called to see if Car Zone could take me on my lunch break later that day. They said no problem and I came in later that day. They took me right away and found not one but two nails in my tire. They removed both and repaired the tire in 10 minutes and did not charge me. Highly recommend and will be coming here for all of my car maintenance moving forward. read more

I have used Car Zone for routine stuff like an oil change, and brake work as well. Murph is amazing - he always gives honest feedback and suggestions for next steps, which has saved me a lot of money. I brought my car in for a weird sound today, and he fixed it immediately and wouldn't take money for the fix. I now live about an hour away, sadly, but plan to still go to Car Zone whenever I need because Murph has earned my trust and loyalty. He takes a lot of the stress out of the stressful experience of dealing with car trouble! read more

My car battery unexpectedly died. Found Car Zone online. Gave them a call and got a quote for a car battery replacement over the phone. Price seemed fair. Eventually got to them, and in 15 minutes my battery was changed (to a model with a 3 year warranty), at the price they quoted. They answered the question I had. Fast, friendly, service at the last minute... I'm definitely bringing my car to them for any other needs next time! read more

You won't find a better guy fix your car than Murph. As honest as the day is long, Murph is top notch, bar none. I can't say enough good things about the service I've received over the years. Not many people or places are worth 5 stars but Murph is without a doubt. read more

Can't write anything different than what's already been said so I'll just hop on the bandwagon with this is the most honest and pleasant car mechanic I've ever visited. Murph is a delight read more

Murph was recommended to me a few years ago. I'm finally getting around to writing a review. He has been nothing short of incredible every time I have gone to see him. The first time I went in, i believe I had a light out? and he replaced it no charge. Then one time I had some piece of rubber ( can't remember the actual name for it) that dragged underneath my car and along the interstate, he helped fashion something out of zip ties to hold it over so i didnt have to pay for a new one. He is always friendly and patient in explaining my car issues. He's also recommended other businesses that were helpful in case he wasn't able to perform a service or he's given me the names of places where i can get affordable parts. I'm moving back to Vermont where i recently had a terrible experience with a mechanic, I will miss car Zone! read more

Great experience. Fast, friendly service. I brought my car by to have one of the headlights fixed - I didn't have an appointment and they still had me set to go in 15 minutes! read more

Trustworthy, responsive, quick knowledgeable, and reasonable in pricing. Exactly what you want from a mechanic. Murph is awesome.

He is best Machanic . I never had Machanic like home before. He is honestly guy. He was fixed my car very good. I will go back to him again. read more

All of these 5-star reviews are completely accurate. I have been bringing my car to Car Zone for the past few years, and have never had such outstanding service with any other car mechanic. Murph has twice performed services on my car without charging me, due to them being "easy fixes", even though I had received very high estimates elsewhere. The mechanics here are excellent, work quickly and are extremely honest and fair. I recommend Car Zone to all of my family and friends, and would not bring my car anywhere else. read more

Murph and his team are excellent! He gets straight to the point, is easy to talk to, and is honest. I've brought my car to Car Zone several times, and have always left satisfied. I would highly recommend everyone to Murph and the Car Zone team. read more

Seriously, don't go anywhere else. My experience at Honda Zone was so positive that it inspired me to write my first review. Getting attacked by a stray box on the highway left my car with a deep scratch in the windshield and missing a wiper nozzle. I called Honda Zone after seeing all the positive reviews of this place on Yelp. I was really scared of being taken advantage of by a mechanic, since it was my first time going to one, but these guys are nothing but honest and friendly. Not only did they fix the nozzle, but they had the windshield repair company go to them and everything was fixed while I was at work. Plus, Murph took the time to explain how to get the windshield covered by my insurance. Now my car is as good as new. It hardly cost me anything and was more convenient than I thought possible. As long as I'm in the area, these are the only guys I will trust with repairs. read more

I love this auto service zone...Murph is a nice guy and so are the couple of folks that I dealt with there! I went in to get the breaks check since the breaks start to get a grinding sound and also to get an over all check up. It ended up costing a bit since I have to do both! The results were great. The car drives smoothly and the breaks were perfect. Murph even gave me new wipers with no charge...it probably does not cost them much, BUT STILL! I definitely go back to them cause they seem reliable for sure. I don't give all 5 stars due to cost...but understandably reasonable. read more

Go here. Do not consider anyone else. Just go, immediately. I have visited the folks at Car Zone for several times, mainly for basic maintenance. Recently, after I noticed some driving quality issues, they inspected my whole car, for free, told me exactly what was wrong, told me why I did NOT have to spend the money to fix it, and then helped me figure out exactly what to say to get it fixed for free at Subaru (under warranty). Point is, these folks didn't make a dime off me - and rarely have - but treated me with total kindness, professionalism, and expertise. Strongly recommended! read more

You seriously can't find anywhere better than this. Over the years I've been here close to a dozen times, and every time I am impressed with the level of service. Murph truly believes in customer loyalty and satisfaction, and if there is something he can fix for free, you'd better believe he will. Speedy, reasonably-priced, and fantastic service. read more

This review is long overdue... Murph is awesome. Plain and simple. My boyfriend and I have been bringing our cars to Car Zone for 4 years now and have always been more than happy with the service. It's hard to find an honest mechanic nowadays, but Murph is just that. He will have you stand in his garage and show you what is wrong with your vehicle and what he is going to fix. He'll tell you if you can hold off on getting something repaired until next winter. Ladies, he will not speak to you as though you're a dumb girl who knows nothing about cars. We often bring the car in for a very minor fix and Murph will not charge us a dime. Yup, you read that right...Zilch. Like I said, Murph is awesome. read more

I thought there were more reviews for car zone When I looked on yelp a couple of years ago I swear there were dozens, all glowing. We've gone to car zone and have been very happy. We trust Murph and everything that got fixed on our car stayed fixed. Car zone has moved a few blocks but worth looking for. read more

Will definitely be coming here should I have any more car problems. Went to Car Zone without an appointment this morning because my emergency brake wasn't working. A nice young man working there told me they would call me when they figured out what the issue was; when I asked how long this might take he told me to hold on while he went to check it out. He came back in approximately 10 minutes and told me to try out the brake; explained he fixed a cable and that I was all set, no charge. Wow! Thank you for the friendly, honest service. read more

Murph is great, and as honest as everyone says. My A/C compressor finally gave out in my 10 year old Honda Fit. Murph suggested a place that I could buy the part online and have it delivered to him, so I could get a much better price. I really appreciate this, as it would have been between $1200-1500 at the dealer. He saved me a bunch of money. Thanks Murph!! read more

Super Professional friendly service. They repaired my tire in 3min without any charge. The best way to go for any car service.

I went to Murph to get an inspection on a used car I planned to buy. He took a full hour to do a thorough inspection and gave me the go-ahead. I offered to pay him for his services but he insisted on not charging me and said it was a Thanksgiving week special. Looks like everyone raves about his integrity and the quality of his service. I will be going back there for my future auto service needs. read more

If you need something done to your car, look no further. Murph (the owner) and his team are speedy and honest.. do you ever see that in the auto business? Brought my car in to get new tires put on and I'm a lifer at car zone now! read more

I went here harried and stressed amidst used car buying stress. It was new year's eve and they were looking to close but stayed around (I accidentally called this place twice - oops). They checked out the car, didn't charge me, wished me a happy new year, and I bought the car with confidence. My housemate had sent me there because they equally had a great experience with these mechanics. I will definitely go here with all my car needs and they deserve your business. read more

Went here because of the great reviews. They were very nice and patched my tire without charging me! In and out in 15 minutes. I will be back! Have been back two more times and they are always nice, helpful, and fast. My windshield washer wasn't working, so they told me what part to buy and where to buy it for cheap. After I got the part, they fixed my car very quickly and charged almost nothing. Make sure to bring enough cash to tip a fair price. I always drive home feeling like I should have paid more! read more

Murph is my new trusted mechanic. He replaced my rear brakes last year, and just replaced my front brakes. I appreciate his honesty, and quick service. I always feel like I'm going to get ripped off when I go to a mechanic, but not at car zone. Murph always calls explaining the problem, how much it's going to cost, and gets your approval before competing any work. It's incredibly rare to see so many 5-star ratings for something that typically is related to unexpected and expensive car problems, but the reviews speak for themselves! read more

I hit the curb and scratch tire sidewall. Went to Car Zone to see if it is fixable. They do not sell tires but still offered me ton of valuable suggestions after asking about my cars year, model, and drive. He even went the extra miles to tell me to get the same brand and model of tire for the AWD system. Of course, they didn't ask for anything for checking out my car. read more

Everything that people have said in the reviews are true. At first I went to an AAMCO not too far away, and they quoted me $1,650 for a fix I needed. Car Zone hooked it up for less than half of that. I have a Nissan Maxima and and happy that I took it here. Like the reviews before me, I highly recommend these guys. read more

Murph is the man. We have been bringing our '01 Honda here for five years, and always come away surprised at how inexpensive automotive maintenance can be when you can trust your mechanic and only the necessary is repaired. Yesterday morning, for example, I brought the car in for an oil change and A/C recharge, and a flaky rear hatch. Murph fixed the hatch for free, and had it all done by the afternoon. Note that the shop has recently moved--Car Zone is now located at 468 Columbia St in Somerville, after a very unceremonious end to a 20+ year tenancy at his old spot on Broadway in East Cambridge. Ask him to tell you the story, it's an indictment of the insane and soulless state of Cambridge real estate. Murph tried to change the address with this Yelp listing, but was told it would cost hundreds of dollars to do so. Did you know that? I didn't know that. Anyway. Six stars for Car Zone, if that were an option. A rare beacon of personal, down-to-earth, honest service. read more
