Co-workers had the asparagus soup and risotto. They said that both were excellent. I had to go with my favorite, veal wienerschnitzel with a mushroom cream sauce. Extremely busy restaurant right next to the train station. They do not modify anything here nor should you expect a box of you'd like to take some food back to your hotel. Our server was quite rude, "no, you're not in America anymore" was his standard answer to pretty much everything. The food was OK, nothing special or remarkable. This was a fantastic dinner with a nice ambiance. We were invited here by my wife's German counterparts and it was our first authentic German/Bavarian dining experience while in Berlin. Before arriving, I wanted to see what on the menu I would eat since I don't eat any pork or red meat. Needless to say, a lot of German food is pork and red meat. I wanted to eat something that was traditional, yet also aligned with my palate. I decided to have the 1/2 with oven baked red cabbage and potato dumplings and my wife, at the suggestion of her German counterpart had a original schnitzel with fries. We both enjoyed our food and experience of having what the locals eat. The food was delicious and the service was good. At the suggestions of our German counterparts that were visiting from Hamburg and Frankfurt, we shared the apple strudel as our dessert and really liked it. It was not the same as what we think of as strudel in the United States, it was much better in my opinion. The food, service, and atmosphere made this a wonderful dining experience of culture, conversation, and cuisine. Although I don't eat pork or beef, they had a lot of other things that I would have loved to try, namely the pretzel and some of the soups. read more

We came on a Tuesday evening for dinner. There were plenty to seats just after 6pm and we were seated right away. The outdoor setting was great. The service was efficient and food came out pretty quickly too. The pork knuckle was filling and delicious. The crackling was so good. There was so much meat the sauerkraut and potato dumplings were almost untouched. The pork schnitzel was so tasty. The leaves that came with it was a tad bitter but went well with the chanterelles a la creme. The crispy potato dumplings were very tasty as well. The VAT was higher than a few of the places we've been to at 18% Nevertheless the food was great! read more

The sun high above us, the river and boats flowing beneath - Zollpackhof called us gently to its garden for the heavenly in between. Is this poetic nonsense necessary you think? YES IT IS. Because this place feels like a dream come true. The whole place is charming - the darling architecture, the beautiful shady tree, the sizzling sausages outside, friendly service, and the never ending flow of beer. This place had it all. This was my second visit to Zollpackhof. It was absolutely delicious, but I would recommend visiting in the late Fall/ early Winter if you can. The first time we visited was in November and it was very slow but the service was amazing. This time we visited in mid-May and it was packed and the service was not the best. My meal was the Austrian Schnitzel and it was as big as my arm! It was the best I've ever tasted! The restaurant is definitely in the pricey side, but completely worth it! I got here with my partner and our friends, we have been this area couple times, but somehow we didn't noticed this Biergarten till recently, my partner went with his colleague. He find it nice, so we all decided to come and try it out ourselves. First, I really like the location here. Although it's close to the tourist attractions, it's quite peaceful this place, The river Spree just couple steps away. some tour boats come by time to time, which quite a lovely view. Zollpackhof itself is really big, we were sitting the seats outside, it was a lovely day and the atmosphere was really great. I also have quick look of the restaurant inside, it also looked nice. About the food, I ordered Knusprige Schweinshaxe and for me it taste alright, one of friend and I both ordered this, we both found the sauce didn't take so much for us. the Schweinshaxe was quite crispy and good. But compared with some other place I have been, somehow it just lacked off something. It probably tasted a bit different since I was drinking weißbier dunkel. Funny thing is at the end we all weren't really convicted by the food here, even we ordered different dishes, sadly. Friends of our were quite surprised with the price of the beers they ordered, well, it was quite pricey though. I do like the environment here, the staff was friendly as well. Nice food, good place, great service. It's located near Berlin central train station.

It's a gorgeous building and I imagine in the summer with the beer garden it would be a great place for a drink. The food however is not great. My tomato consommé was great but the main course was bland and lacked flavour considering it was a Schwinebraten mit sauerkraut and dumplings. Will come back here for a drink in the summer but eat elsewhere. read more

Great place to eat GOOD German food! Read in the reviews that this place shuns Americans...NOT SO! The first evening they asked if we had reservations, we didn't; but they seated us and gave us a waiter that spoke good English. He also recommended and explained the beers and the menu items. We had a great meal; I had the roast pork (delicious and plentiful) with sides while the wife had a sausage plate . Upon leaving, we asked the head waiter if we needed a reservation for the following night; he immediately told us to just walk in... we did. The 2nd night I had veal schnitzel and the wife had the crispy pork knuckle .... both excellent! Now comes my warning.... we went back the 3rd night and had the Delicious Platter for 2... the meal was excellent.... 1/2 roast duck, black forest ham, sausages, roast pork with potato dumplings, cooked red cabbage and sauerkraut...AND VERY PLENTIFUL ... and that is the warning.... take a couple extra people with you!! We ate,,,and ate,,,and ate.. but there was no way the 2 of us could eat that much food. So good.... but so much food! Highly recommend this restaurant for a fun evening and excellent food. And don't be shy if an American... just be pleasant and polite,,,, something that my military service overseas taught me about all locations.... respect the people where you are and enjoy the experience. It's not only that they serve the famous Augustiner Bräu beer from Munich - sometimes, they even draft it directly from a wooden barrel. Tastes even better than from the steel barrels. Plus: It's very close to an original / typical beer garden because of the large chestnut trees. read more

I've been to Berlin many times, but haven't made it here. I am surprised by this, I had an event here before a conference. They did a whole BBQ and beer thing. The food was decent bavarian pub food. The waiting for chicken is an adventure as they run out quickly, then get more and you have to time your place in line with the completion of the rotisserie. Good food, good beer, terrible attitude and service. We went with our German hosts at their recommendation, we enjoyed everything until we saw the interaction with the service left them unhappy. We asked why, and they told us the server was very abrupt, bordering on downright rude. I know not to expect all friendly smiles like a chain restaurant in the states, but this was below basic expectation of courtesy. Specific case in point, they asked about the ingredients in a dessert with ice in the name. The server first claimed not to know how it was made. When it came without ice cream, they asked again, and were told abruptly, that is just the name and it doesn't come with ice cream. Then the server reappeared with ice cream and stated we were being given ice cream so we would not be upset. Well that's not the point of the matter at that stage, now is it? The place has been in existence since the late 100 according to the date on the door. I am sure they had better service through these many years. read more

This restaurant was an incredible find on a December trip to Berlin. It is only a short walk from the Berlin Hauptbahnhof train station. The block upon which it is located is charming, replete with horses and a remote feel. The facility was packed with people who clearly were regulars and fans. I'd suggest making reservations a day or two in advance. At 6:00 (daily I think) a new keg of a variety of its own beer is opened. The combination plate option is good for those who wish to sample a variety of things. I ordered wiener schnitzel several times and rate it as best I had in Berlin.
