We, wanted to try some German Basics. Haven't had a bad meal here in Berlin and Schlögl's was no exception. The restaurant decor is fun and the service was great. I went to Schlögl's during my solo trip to Berlin in late April/Early May. I ordered schnitzel with rosemary roasted potatoes and it was so delicious. The schnitzel was HUGE and juicy with the perfect crispy exterior, and the potatoes and side of veggies that it came from were also stellar. We were hungry after walking through the city and this was the first restaurant that popped up after looking up in the area. You'd have to walk further in to locate the restaurant but it's located quite nicely since the building in front blocks the sun and the trees on the right provide a nice air and ambiance. We ordered the Berliner Teller for 2 and the Original Berliner Currywurst mit Pommes fries und gemischtem Salad mit Dressing. Cute place... Lots of personality. Very friendly staff. Not sure if this is typical... Be aware... Bring cash on Sundays... They don't take credit cards on Sunday... But yes on other days. Had a sampler platter. I didn't enjoy the meat ball though I know someone who would have loved it. There is a spice in it that has a floral quality. Otherwise I would have liked it... So more personal preference than anything. The sausage was really soft... Not what I'm used to in North America... But I really liked it. It's was covered in something that resembled ketchup but I'm sure it was something local. And the schnitzel had a wonderful crispy outside that stayed crispy and stuck on the chop through out dinner. Though the chop was not as tender as I'm used to from Canadian pork. Overall I would give the food 3.5. good value. read more

Great authentic German spot in the heart of tourist land! After walking around museum island and finishing or museum tour at the DDR Museum, this restaurant was just a short walk away. We got the $9.60 special, which included two pieces of schnitzel, fries, and salad. This was a great deal and totally suitable for 2 people even though it's meant for one. I tried the Currywurst and was very satisfied - the portion is generous (especially for the €6,90 price) and comes with fries and some salad. The restaurant is not far from Alexanderplatz, but you have to pay attention for the sign as it's a little bit off the street. Really cute small spot found behind all the hustle and bustle of the alexanderplatz area, recommend for some down time, food and beer. The food was really good, you find your authentic German plates here. Maybe lacking a bit of customer service but I'm sure the language barrier adds to the possible frustration. I read a boiled pork knuckle on the menu in the English translation, so of course I wanted to clarify it's not boiled but maybe broiled or roasted but when I asked, the waitress was upset and looked at me like i was crazy and told me it was boiled potatoes. There was no table available when I first arrived but I was so determined to eat there that around 15-20 min later went back there to test my chance once again and bingo! The table available was facing the bathroom but it is a really cute spot. Staff is friendly, they speak English and there is an English menu.
