After a week in Germany I was ready for some real German food so i used the Yelp app to find dinner. The reviews looked positive so I gave it a try. I was not disappointed. The service was great and the food was even better. I tried the daily special "Leber knodel with sauerkraut" (veal liver meat ball) - awesome If ever back in the area I would definitely come back.

This place is a treasure. I was so excited to come here for my last dinner in Berlin after sussing out the pork knuckle on the menu and I was not disappointed. I was welcomed by who I assume was the owner and was seated promptly. This place feels so homely and I just loved the interior furnishings which had such an authentic but funky feel to it. I ordered myself the pork knuckle with the option to have it boiled or grilled, of which I chose grilled. The dear man who was also my server moved seamlessly between English and German which was pretty awesome too. My food came out and it was a vision. I was completely thrilled by the look of this dish, the pork knuckle was massive could have easily fed two, surrounded by gravy, sauerkraut and two potato-rosti like things. The pork was so flavourful and tender I only needed my fork to peel it off the bone. Paired with the warm sauerkraut, gravy and mustard each bite was so flavourful and I just inhaled my meal. The potato rostis were heavily seasoned and a bit dry, overall ok but I could have done without. Given the flavours of the dish a mashed potato would have been more suitable (maybe ask to substitute if you order this meal.) For a weeknight, this place was pretty busy and towards the end of my meal (I was alone) I ended up having to share my table with another lone gentleman due to the lack of space. I kind of wish he had sat at the bar as this resulted in me hurriedly finishing my meal to avoid awkward stares and uncomfortable silence. So yea, that part was not cool. Overall though, it was the perfect way to end my few days in Berlin. Highly recommended if you can have a table without having to share and the grilled pork knuckle is a must.

Pork fillets in a paprika sauce with Spätzle--very good, filling and hearty

This is a small restaurant that was in the same street as a hotel I stayed at. I saw the excellent reviews on Yelp and wanted to have good German food while in Germany, so I gave this restaurant a try. In the early evening it was not too crowded and I got a nice table. The interior is very cosy and comfortable. The service was very good. I had a large dark beer and a pork dish that had pork fillets in a paprika sauce with Spätzle. I don't remember the name. It was filling and tasty. The price for the meal was reasonable. I didn't spend more than 20 Euros. This is an excellent choice if you want a non-touristy experience and good German food in Berlin Mitte.

A great German restaurant with elegant interiors decorated with snapshots of Berlin's history. I enjoyed the Nuremberger Roast Sausages - it took a little while to prepare (testament to the quality), which gave me time to peruse the posters and photos that adorn the walls of the restaurant. The restaurant feels very local, although clearly accommodates tourists very nicely. The staff are friendly, and happy to switch back and forth between German and English while talking about the food and restaurant. It's great to dine inside, and there are also some tables on the street which look nice for the warmer weather. Definitely a good pick if you are looking for some great German food in a beautiful setting.

Initial thoughts are that this isn't going to be the best experience despite previous 5 star reviews. We were probably sat at our table for half an hour before even a drinks order was taken. Thankfully after that bad first impression things did improve. The local draught beer called Rollberg was excellent. My menu choices were Goulash soup for starter and a chicken escalope served with fries and a mushroom sauce. I didn't manage a dessert! The portion sizes are excellent and the food delicious. Just the ticket for a hearty appetite. After the initial slow service, afterwards the service was much more efficient. The window has a sticker displaying various cards which are accepted but when one of our group needed to pay by card this wasn't possible. We should really have been advised of that at the start.

Very well kept and authentic German restaurant from the classic decoration to the "home made" food. There seemed to be only one waiter as well as bartender but he was very efficient. The dishes that we had were very tasty with good portion. Highly recommend if you are in the neighbourhood.

Grilled Pork Knuckle with sauerkraut and potatoes (Grillhaxe mit sauerkraut und Salzkartoffeln).

While in Berlin I decided to use Yelp to help me find a place to eat like the locals last minute around KaDeWe and after a list of blah places- I came across this authentic German restaurant after reading some great reviews. Although my legs and feet were so tired and I could've picked another place on my way to this restaurant, I'm glad I toughed it out and came here. The staff was great! The food came out right away and most importantly, the food was AMAZING!!! I tried the Grilled Pork Knuckle with sauerkraut and potatoes (Grillhaxe mit sauerkraut und Salzkartoffeln). For Dessert the chef made me a vanilla mousse with berries that were out of this world!!! (Vanille-Mousse mit Beerenragout ). As you can see from my photos, I cleaned the plate within minutes! Boy I wish I ordered another portion. I strongly recommend this place!!! The night before I spent close to 400 euros dining at Reinstoff but this place to me was more memorable! Cheers!!

CASH ONLY even with the credit card accepted sign posted on the door. I came here the day I left Europe and had very limited Euros with me. It totally caught me off guard when the owner/server said they only accepted cash. Food is good. The owner/server recommended the boiled pork knuckle over the grilled one and it was really good. I wanted to try the Onion Soup but he didn't allow me to (literally refused to take my order) and insisted that the pork knuckle should go with beer and nothing else. Service was a bit slow but it's okay. Friendly (German standard) server. Very clean environment. Convenient location.

We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway -- forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

We had the pork shank and the game goulash. The goulash was fantastic. Yes cabbage was perfect. The potatoes wrestle pork shank were probably cooked in bacon fat and were sublime. Also the "Potato Snap" (like a home brewed vodka) is a fun and interesting shot before dinner! Service: Rather slow but the poor wait staff are completely overworked. Ambiance: Quaint, almost like a dining room in an old home. Value: For the quality, value is solid. Dinner and beer for 2 with 5% tip for just under 100 Euros.

But when I arrived the doors were locked. Couldn't get in. No one answered. Yelp said they were open, Google said they were open, even their own posted hours on their own door/window said they were open. But they weren't. No handwritten note of explanation, no "sorry, be right back," just nothing but a locked door and confusion. (And for the record, I speak German so I would've recognized and understood it if they had written something in German) So at this point I have absolutely nothing to recommend about this place. I couldn't even recommend showing up and trying because they might be randomly closed even when they're supposed to be open. I understand that life happens, emergencies can pop up, workers can call in sick, etc. But as a responsible business owner you need to at least let your customers know that something happened. Simply having them arrive and pull at the door confused isn't good business. If there had been some kind of note I would've been disappointed but not upset. I would've waited to write this review until I had gotten a chance to try it. But that kind of lack of concern for customers said enough all by itself.

My parents are in town for the holidays, and when making a list of things they want to do and see,…read morethey said they wanted authentic Käsespätzle. OK, easy enough. But a place that serves Käsespätzle that's good AND vegan dishes? A tall order. Or maybe it was five years ago. Now more and more places have vegan options that aren't just potatoes and mushrooms. So I compiled a list of spots in town with good reviews of Käsespätzle and one or two vegan entrees, and sent it over. They looked at the list and decided that Die Feinbäckerei looked best to them. So we called and made a reservation. We showed up at 3pm on a Saturday, just as they were opening, and it was quiet, with only one other table. My parents and son all ordered the classic Käsespätzle and I got the vegan Maultauschen made of beets. Let's just say, we all were pleased with our meals. The food was excellent in taste and quality, and the portions were huge. My son also wanted Kaiserschmarrn -- a dish that is for two... at least -- but no one else had room to share. So he ate it (and loved it) and we took the rest home with us, which he ate the next day. Our service was also excellent! And the place was really cozy and unassuming. As we were leaving, it was starting to fill up, so although we didn't need reservations, definitely get them if you're coming for dinner. And although it's a bit of a trek from my side of town, I wouldn't think twice about coming back again.

The bartender greeted us with menus and took our drink order. The Chef came out and said "I am here to take your order since I am cooking it!" She was very pleasant and ready to please. My wife ordered a small side salad and I ordered Weiner Schnitzel. The Chef was unimpressed with my wife's order and chastised her for watching her figure! I wanted french frys but the Chef encouraged me to try her homemade fried potatoes with the promise that I wouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't! When the food came out the Chef told my wife that she had brought two pieces of toast in addition to the small salad because one can not exist on salad alone and by the way, she had placed extra large portions of Schnitzel and potatoes on my plate because she was confident that my wife would want some of mine. She wasn't wrong with that analysis. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding and this is sure to be a regular stop for us while we are in Berlin. This is like taking a step back in German dining history. The Chef was also the owner and took great pride in providing us with a memorable meal!
