Stopped by late one Sunday after a show nearby. This actually came as a recommendation from a friend who used to come to Zoku for a late night bite quite a few years ago. She was a bit nervous visiting after so long, wondering if they were still good. Well, they certainly are! Zoku is an extremely solid late night sushi and Thai joint. The food came out quickly and it was delicious and filling. I got an oshinko and a salmon lover maki. The maki was pretty good, definitely a repeat order for me. I came here as a final stop for my weekend in Chicago. I have some mixed emotions. There wasn't a wait to get in, but the vibes in this place were just a little off. The graphics on the wall were a bit strange and the music playing was odd. The reason we came were the crab rangoons, which I thoroughly enjoyed. So so good! I also ordered their gyoza & they were also good, perfectly crispy. Finally, I got their cucumber salad which honestly I could have loved without Now, the sushi... I didn't quite like my sushi very much. I got the Yosemite and there was just too much fish going on in the roll. My friend ordered a dragon roll and accidentally got the Godzila. The food here is so delicious! As a vegetarian, it's difficult to find good sushi options, but this place has a couple of options (the White Garden is the best sushi I've ever had!). Woke up at almost 9pm yesterday(I work very early am hours) and was tasked earlier in the day with finding a sushi place to eat - was now nervous that I wouldn't be able to find one considering the lateness of night. Anyways - I luckily found Zoku and had a nice experience there as well. I also called them a couple times, the employee on the phone was very kind and patient with a couple questions of mine. The entire time there was nice and ultimately enjoyed what we came there for, the food. The only caveat to the experience was it took a little bit for our waiter to take our order, although that can be expected on a Friday night, especially around 1130 pm at night. The food itself was delicious and it came out quick. Would definitely consider coming back as a late night staple. read more

Wow! We found this place late night as they were the only open sushi spot after 10pm. Everything was excellent and I look forward to ordering from them again. The spicy tuna was spicy! All rolls I tried were tasty and ingredients seemed as fresh as expected. I had the Sweet Potato Maki ($6), Shiitake Mushroom Maki ($5) and Spicy Tuna Maki ($6) were all tasty and portions were good. We ordered via Doordash close to midnight. The winner is the Wonton Soup - so flavorful yet light. You can tell by the wonton wrappings they were made in-house. The chicken filling was a bit dense. Five stars for the Tom Kha which might be one of the best I've ever had, perfect balance of flavors (though I may ask for it extra spicy next time). The panang curry is very good and the California roll was pretty standard but the rice had good flavor and texture. The only disappointment in the meal was the edamame, it was overcooked. It was a late Sunday night and I was in dire need of some sushi. Sadly and surprisingly our City of Chicago doesn't have any sushi restaurants that are open late, but I managed to find Soku! We got here around 10 pm and found a busy restaurant accommodating all the to-go orders. We were seated immediately and started with couple soups; spicy miso and vegetable tum-yum. Both were equally delicious and full of flavor. The Tom Yum soup especially was unique with it's sweet and sour flavors along with the mix of vegetables it contained. We then ordered few dishes to try; spicy tuna roll, spicy shrimp roll, shrimp tempura roll, chicken basil dish, and chicken egg rolls. One dish was better than the next! The sushi rolls were quite fresh considering it was late at night and had plenty of protein versus rice. I was expecting a ground chicken for the chicken basil dish but it came in chunks but I am glad I did because it was more than delightful. I cannot wait to return and try the rest of the plates they offer because I imagine the flavors will be just as great. read more

Today we were doing a meatless day so we decided to stop in and have meatless versions of our Thai favorites. My wife had tofu pad Thai noodles and I had basil fried rice with vegetables. A little longer than I expected but figured they had a lot of orders ahead of me. So I started a project that would take me at least 40 min and within 15 min of ordering I got a notification that my order was ready. Okay this is a tougher review to write for a few reasons. I really want to like this place because the Sushi was good, but some of the things they did are HUGE pet peeves of mine. My girlfriend and I went here for supper on 8/14/18 and came in around 10:30. Service was very slow all through out the evening. We ordered an order of egg rolls and green tea to start. It took approximately 9 minutes to bring the tea out and it was Lipton green tea bags in plastic cups. Now I'm not a tea snob, but that's a little much. Especially when you're charging $2.50 a glass. For entrees we ordered Pad See Ew and a Godzilla roll. The Godzilla roll wasn't rolled tight enough and was on the large side. Almost needed a knife and fork for pieces. However it did taste good and we Both enjoyed it. Stay away from Pad See Ew. The vegetables were undercooked and the beef was very chewy. Now the big thing that happened was while we were half way through our entrees, the egg rolls came out. Okay that's unacceptable. An appetizer is supposed to come before main dishes not half way through them. And don't tell me it's because kitchen is slow. We were the only people in there. I would consider ordering sushi take out, but wouldn't dine in again due to service and how Long everything took. read more

Despite the mixed reviews for this place, I was craving sushi and am on a budget. It's a sushi option in the 'hood and Groupon saved the day! I grabbed a small bottle of sake on the way over because it's BYOB (thank you!) and got my Groupon grub on. I ordered four rolls: Sexy Dynamite, Sweet Potato, Caribbean and Caramel Crunch *Broke girl budget tip: Go stag so you can savor all the sushi goodness yourself. It's not greedy, it's savvy ;) And I had AM leftovers when I got home with the munchies from a long night out! All of the rolls were unique and tasty. The servings were plentiful, and my server was pleasant. Zoku did NOT disappoint! Zoku reminds me a lot of Jaiyen. Not authentic by any means, but delicious nonetheless. The decor is not so fab (alas, the cool wall mural is no more), so maybe skip it as a first date destination. This seems like the perfect late night sushi delivery place. They're open till 2am! The only unpleasant aspect of my visit was the side door issue. Restaurant employees were continually coming and going through the side door that opened up directly into the small dining room.
