My favorite thing about Raiz, besides how absolutely fresh and delicious all the sushi was, was how they had a wide range of specialty rolls, but also a good list of simple, classic rolls. There were so many that sounded awesome that my friend and I had a hard time deciding which ones to go with! Overall, we were really happy with our choices! The salmon mango was the classic roll that we went with, which my friend didn't love as much as I did. I really appreciated how large the portions of salmon were as well. For the Specialty rolls, we went with the zesty islander and the Medusa. I thought it was interesting that the zesty Islander had slices of lemon on top including the rind. The Medusa was spicier than I expected, but I still really enjoyed it! The poke tacos were such a fantastic edition! Highly recommend you give those a shot. There are three of them. We also enjoyed the pork gyoza, the portion was plentiful, and I loved how they were prepared with a slightly crispy outside. The only reason I removed 1 star is because the service was quite slow, we often found we had to flag our waiter down, water glasses were empty, etc. but it may have just been a busy night. Also love that they have a happy hour. But even during regular hours the prices felt very reasonable, especially considering the portions and how fresh all the fish was! OH OKAY! I SEE YOU RAIZ! This sushi spot has it all, great service, beautiful and cozy atmosphere, and delicious sushi. A group of 4 of us dined in for a Friday dinner and enjoyed ourselves. We chose to sit in the back room which was spacious and also had a lounge area. Service throughout was consistent and timed out well. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to chat with. We all shared several apps and rolls. My favorites were the karma signature roll and Picasso signature roll. Both had different layers of flavors - it was like a story being told while eating. Probably the first time I've experienced this while having sushi and I LOVED it. For drinks I tried the lychee martini which I thought was vodka heavy with a hint of lychee. This place is a diamond in the rough. Rolls are huge! You definitely get your moneys worth. Think what menus used to be before inflation. The salad was delicious, every roll we ordered was great, the shoshito peppers were tasty and zesty, and the tuna rice was good too. The service was wonderful, from the nice touch with the cucumber and lemon on each water, to friendly service, and helpful suggestions. I'd come back! We came upon Raiz by accident and dropped in. The restaurant ambiance is calm with soft music overhead. The restaurant is clean and there are tables in the front and back. I ordered the yaki udon and it was pretty good. The miso soup was also very good along with the spicy edamame. My spouse enjoyed his sashimi plate. I don't normally take off more than a star for service but this was pretty bad. The servers are really not attentive and we had to ask where our edamame and miso was that we ordered as an appetizer. The server went to get it from the back and it was certainly done. The food was really good and we may return contingent on the service improving. Food Ambiance service Made a reservation for my family of 6, 2 adults and 4 kids. It was my kiddos 15 birthday and requested sushi on a Thursday at 5pm. Wanted to try something new and we drove by and literally never paid attention to it. Looked it up and it looked delish, he asked to take the risk and try it and it was AMAZING! Our table was in the back room. We had it to ourselves and everything was top notch. We had the pleasure of being there while it was happy hour which saves $1-3 dollars of some of their menus items. Took advantage of that and got 4 items off that. Everything was so tasty! My kids devoured their meals. Only kid item off the kids menu we had was the cheese sticks which 10/10 amazing idea to have on there. Two non sushi eaters had the bento boxes and delish they were! The rest of us had sushi. Size, presentation, and taste were impeccable! I can't believe this place doesn't have a wait or hard time getting a reservation cause it was top notch. Raiz is a hidden gem in Logan Square which could probably benefit from more exposure. From the front it doesn't look like much, just a minimal sushi bar with about 10 stools and a handful of two tops. But turn the corner, past the restrooms, and you enter into an expansive, well appointed dining room with a bar and a raised lounge area, which one could see as doubling as a performance stage. And beyond the dining room? A gorgeous back patio, well shaded by neighboring buildings, which can seat I would guess 20 - 30. The food is excellent. We tried the poke tacos, the Japanese dumplings, and a handful of nigiri. Love love love the tacos and the dumplings. The maguro and especially the unagi were particularly good, as well. Get that eel! We drank Manhattans all night and they were cheep cheep cheep - $9 a pop. Service was very friendly and the vibe was as chill as could be. On a Wednesday night, we had the patio pretty much to ourselves. Hopefully they do more business on the weekends. Check it out! read more

Like a lot of people, the fact that Raiz offers Italian AND Japanese food threw me off, but I came for a girl group for sushi in November of 2022 and the experience was wonderful - not crowded on a Friday late evening, intimate atmosphere in the back with the bar, service a little slow but kind, and some great food! Being a group, we ordered simple rolls and Shrimp Yakisoba, as well as specialty rolls to share: The unique-and-a-bit-too-spicy-for-me-personally River Beast and Zesty Islander (I'm weak to spiciness); Black Monster, The Anne, and the lovely Pink Flower; And my personal favorite - the Ocean Vinaigrette. I'm a sucker for anything with Ponzu on it (give me citrusy-salty *any day*, and I could have happily eaten the whole Ocean Vinaigrette with its "tart, refreshing blueberry ponzu vinaigrette" on top and come back for more. And if you're like me and you love a little jalapeño and cilantro with your rice and tuna then you get incredibly lucky and find a place that just happens to have what you consider to be ideal maki. These rolls were absolutely delicious. Not going to lie, I was pretty skeptical when I saw that their menu had burgers and pastas too but when I started reading the descriptions of the maki I knew I had to at least give them a shot and man oh man am I glad that I did. I had high expectations for this restaurant based on the Yelp reviews, but was left disappointed by the food. Ordered takeout on a Tuesday night and got: Zesty Islander, Ocean Vinaigrette, Picasso, Sashimi sampler, and salmon avocado. The tuna in the zesty islander had a noticeable fishy taste, as did the salmon in the salmon avocado. All the rolls had too much rice compared to amount of fish. The special rolls came with dipping sauce on the side? Which I had never experienced before, and the sauces almost tasted like different kinds of salad dressings. came here back in july with a big group of friends to celebrate a birthday! we nearly had the place to ourselves which was nice. our waitress was new and did a great job handling some drink order errors. as for food, i had the chicken bento box which i loved! i wish they had yum yum sauce here though. the miso soup was a little salty. someone in the group ordered ramen and thought it was mid. many sushi rolls were shared at the table and every bite was so good. there was one sushi roll ordered that came on fire (unfortunately i can't find the name of the roll). the buffalo wings were great! they had a nice level of spice and the wings were crispy. overall it was a great environment & i would definitely return and sit in the outdoor patio! read more

The Picasso, Black Monster, Mafia, Tequila speciality rolls are also worth mentioning, fresh & great flavors. The sashimi is also super fresh and delicious. I really like the carrot ginger dressing on the house salad, and we've had the spring rolls, crispy tuna and the tacos as apps and they're all great. I really enjoy Raiz and consider it the best sushi spot in Logan Square. I've enjoyed both in-restaurant and delivery/takeout experiences, and pretty much everything has been a delight. The patio is also very pleasant if you get the chance to enjoy it during a warm evening. Service at Raiz is pretty solid. It's typically fast, friendly, and attentive, and the kitchen staff/chefs are very nice as well the couple of times I've engaged with them. The happy hour here, which is available for in-restaurant dining or takeout, is a great deal with lots of wonderful options. It's a good way to try this restaurant out at a very affordable price. My go-tos include the spicy garlic edamame, any of the black rice rolls including the Black Monster, and Black Cat (Caterpillar roll with black rice), and the Spicy Tataki (in-restaurant only though for this one). The rainbow roll is also really solid and the dragon as well. One friend really loved the Ocean Vinaigrette roll which is a pretty unique one on the menu. The toasted salmon starter is fantastic, as is the ocean salad. We have not loved the cheese won tons (crab rangoon-esque). I'll be back here again and again for the interesting menu, friendly service, solid prices, and high quality ingredients. Similar to other reviewers, I was almost scared off by the fact that they have chick parm on their menu, but thankfully other reviewers mentioned that and said that the sushi was great. We weren't disappointed. We got one of the deluxe entrees that included 2 specialty rolls and 10 pieces of nigiri. It was great. The dim sum soup was amazing! The service was really helpful and friendly. We were a bit nervous when we arrived because the restaurant empty at 7:30pm on a Friday night, but we opted to sit out on the back patio, which had several guests dining there. I wasn't sure what kind of restaurant it was, obviously sushi plays a big part of the identity but their menu boasts American and Italian fare. Could it be any good? YES! I am so excited that we finally visited Raiz Kitchen. We tried many of the dishes and they were all delicious. It's a a delicious place when you have a large group and everyone wants something different. It's also a delicious option in Logan for good sushi. All of the sushi was incredibly fresh and had great textures (rice, julienned veggies, the crunch of the peppers). The Italian food has good quality cheese. The burger has amazing waffle fries. We Tried- Poke Tacos (tuna, yellowtail, salmon, shrimp, cucumber, avocado and jalapeno). So, so good- crunchy, spicy, and fresh tuna. Spicy Miso Soup- I love a good miso soup, this one is spicy and great for those cool, in between Spring/Fall nights. Raiz Flat Bread (blanched brussel sprouts, lemon vinaigrette, bacon, garlic cream, caramelized onions and fantina cheese). I love Brussels sprouts so if they're on the menu I am getting them. I assumed this would be a small flatbread- oh no! This is the size of a small pizza. The fontina cheese was devious and the bacon was cooked to perfection. Cabo Burger (truffle aioli, cheddar, avocado, Sriracha and sauteed mushrooms). A delicious burger with a side of perfectly balanced spicy, kick. Zesty Islander Roll (spicy crab, scallion, jalapeno, avocado, salmon and thin lemon slices, tangy, sweet peppers and lime zest). I would say this is one of their house specialties; fresh and a good balance of garlic and lemon. Medusa Roll (tempura fried, spicy tuna, avocado, cream cheese, spicy crab and tuna mix topping, fried sweet potato strands, unagi and creamy wasabi sauce). A very warm welcome as soon as my friend and I walked into Raiz. We were seated by the window and given a nice introduction to the menu. We shared four rolls - Picasso Roll, Summer Roll (two of these) and the Rainbow Roll. All very delicious and we finished every bite. We especially loved the Summer Roll which had a generous amount of salmon and topped with mango pieces which was very unique and refreshing. Our waiter was patient and helpful, and the menu was extensive. We ordered drinks; Saki and beer, a few appetizers, and a noodle dish. Love this addition to the neighborhood! We ordered the Medusa, the Garlic Salmon and the Tuna Bites appetizer/starter. Everything was delicious. The garlic salmon was light, fresh and unique, while the Medusa gives you everything you want from Americanized sushi. Both rolls were filling, so I would say the price is justifiable. Regarding the tuna bites - eat these immediately! They're very good hot, but once they get to room temperature the flavor changes significantly. I did notice a few of the rolls are very similar if not equivalent to what Komorebi offers, so if you like Komorebi but live in Logan this is definitely a better option! Last item - this is the old Big Tony's pizza, so they still have a pizza oven and offer wings as well. This makes it a great option for households where not everyone likes sushi. I was excited to hear Raiz had finally opened. It's walking distance from our house and we aren't in love with most of our neighborhood choices. I don't know the last time we had sushi, but it was definitely pre-pandemic and I was craving it. I may have gone a little overboard ordering poke tacos, crispy tuna, hamachi nigiri, spicy salmon, garlic salmon roll and a Picasso roll. Overall the sushi is solid and the presentation was nice for what can be done with delivery. The standouts were the crispy tuna and Picasso roll, we'd definitely reorder these. The tacos were good, just not as good as the others, same with the garlic salmon. The Picasso and garlic salmon each also come with their own sauces. The spicy salmon was the low point of our meal and I can't put my finger on why. It may have been the pack of spice (not enough), it may have been the amount of mayo (too much), or maybe it was how it was rolled compared to the others (too loose). Overall, I'd skip it next time. Bottom line: we'd reorder from Raiz and hopefully someday can dine in. read more

It's a total bummer we love the food but the menu is a bit limited with regards to the sushi when you eat here a lot and they are never ready with their orders. They always have our pick up time and we come and it's always 10-20 minutes late that we end up sitting there waiting. It's a total bummer that they are not on time and accurate and we just have to wait each time we pick up our food. We have given them this feedback but it never changes. Tadaaa!! Raiz puts out some serious 5 star fare. This is not your standard sushi. They are cooking in the Major Leagues here. The space is amazing and can't to dine in again someday. But until then the patio is perfect. Did not take any pictures of the Flatbread but its not a Flatbread. It is a giant Flatbread pizza. Serious a large pizza.
