    Black Katsu Curry Meal Set

Definitely one of the most authentic, legit katsu in the city. These cuts of katsu are THICK. You are getting a lot of meat here. No nonsense place where you order, get your food in quick fashion and sit down at a simple table to eat. Good food, clean place, casually one of the best katsu in town!

I placed an online pick up order from here. I arrived early but it wasn't done any sooner but still on time. The inside is small, but their staff is friendly. I ordered three sandwich. Two of them with chicken, one with miso katsu sauce and the other with sweet chili sauce. The third sandwich was a pork sandwich with tonkatsu sauce. All three sandwiches were really good and couldn't really pick out a favorite one. Both the chicken and the pork were very juicy and the sauce were all really tasty. The rest of my family really enjoyed them and we all cant wait to come back.

I really wanted to like this place because I love Japanese curry, but unfortunately this place missed the mark. Considering the many positive reviews, I'm unsure if we caught them on an off day. We stopped by in the late afternoon, and the gentleman at the counter was very friendly. I overheard something about him having a connection to the Chicago Cubs and it sounded like he might be a writer. The walls had signed Chicago Cubs memorabilia which was pretty cool. We ordered the Black Katsu Curry Meal Set and the Katsu Sando with fries. Unfortunately, the pork was overcooked and tough, making it hard to enjoy. The curry itself was just average, and the fries didn't seem fresh. I do plan to give them another shot in the future.

Chicken katsu burnt Two lame pieces of croquette and barely any edamame for $22. Never ordering from here again. The rice is embarrassingly undercooked.

Amazing katsu sandwiches! Great customer service. I liked both the chicken and pork katsu Sandos. The pork was a bit thick but very tasty. I think I liked the pork more but both were very good. This place is legit! Real Japanese food!! I can't wait to come back and try the other items on the menu.

Had a really fantastic experience here today. The service was quick and convenient, and everything was really easy to see on the menu. We popped in for a quick bite and ate a Katsu Sando Set with chicken instead of pork. The restaurant itself is beautiful! Open floor with a good amount of tables and seats for its small area. The drinks were easy to see and spot. Super clean dining area, and there was not a single spot out of place. The food was delicious. The katsu was the perfect texture--crunchy but somehow fluffy when you bite into it. The sauce was excellent, not too much on the sando either. The fries were great, too! I was especially happy to see a good selection of drinks. They have Ito-en unsweetened green tea, which was a nice addition to my meal, considering how most places have really sweet teas instead. All in all, I'll definitely be back. Staff is nice, the restaurant is beautiful and clean. I had a nice time!

The poke was thick, juicy, and perfectly crispy on the outside, pairing beautifully with the rich, authentic curry sauce. It was truly a top-notch katsu curry. The handy ice cream afterwards was also amazing. A perfect finish to a satisfying meal! On top of that, the staff's service was excellent!!

Katsu-shack was a fun nice find. If you go, you should try their habanero sauce. Their miso soup was good but I thought it would come with the tofu chunks. The service was really welcoming and attentive to our needs. The ambiance was quiet. Perfect place for catching up with friends!

    Katsu sandwich & Katsu curryrice

Great Katsu sandwich and Katsu curry rice. My wife & I really enjoyed them. And what is more important, when we brought Katsu Shack food to Cubs game, Cubs won!! Katsu = Win in Japanese(^^)

My friend and I sent to Katsu Shack when they opened. I will say it was a good experience. The service was kind of slow but the quality of the food made up for it. I did enjoy the evil katsu sando. The tangy cabbage really hit the spot and I could taste how fresh it was. The tornado potato Could have been cooked a little longer since it seemed really oily and could have been cooked a little longer. The only other thing was the menu was kind of complicated since the screen kept changing.

We have walked pass here many of times. We decided to try it out. We ordered the Katsu bento and the traditional set. Both got the pork. Katsu portion and thickness was great. Fresh, tender and hot. The egg in the bento was cold (refrigerator temp). Cucumber was good. Service was good and fairly quick. Would try the chicken next time.

Making the trek from the burbs to the city on a Saturday night is a pain these days so when we do…read moreso we like to make it worth it. And Omakase on Me was well worth it from both an entertainment and food perspective. I had booked this for our anniversary about a month ago after seeing the stellar reviews and we are huge sushi fans. I didn't research too much so wasn't exactly sure how it worked, but the surprise was part of the fun. We arrived for our 7:30pm reservation and were asked to sit to the side until everyone arrived. I figured they'd take us to a table in the back, but then realized there's just one bar where everyone sits. They do 3 seatings a night: 530pm, 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Our entire experience was about an hour of 15 min and we left super full and well entertained. There are 16 courses. I believe about 5 appetizers, followed by many sushi courses, 1 hand roll and finally a delicious cheesecake for dessert. I was super full around course #8 and my husband had to start helping me out even though it was all so good. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but really good by Chicago standards. We were sitting next to a lovely couple from Seattle where they do have a really good fresh sushi and they were fans too. The presentation was so fun that you'll definitely want to keep your phone handy to take pics and videos. And the staff was upbeat, hilarious and so nice! They also kept the sake flowing. They do offer other drinks, but we really didn't need to order on top of all of the sake. Our total ended up being around $400, which is pricey for a meal for 2 but felt like it was a show plus sushi...and such a unique experience. My husband loved it all and thanked me for finding something super fun to celebrate our anniversary. On your way out you'll also have the opportunity to sign the wall. For the cost I think it was a one time experience for a date night, but i do think it would be a blast to fill the place with a bunch of friends so maybe we'll do that at some point!

Said Sake Boy and Chef Bankky (sp?) will make sure you Enjoy Your F*cking Dinner. They put on a great show while serving 16 really nice, varied bites accompanied by great, classic rock and pop. Eclectic atmosphere, like a 70's basement with console stereo, posters and albums on display accented with random neon, including in the restroom. We appreciated that they did their thing for just the 2 of us on a recent Wednesday 5:30p seating. It could be a great dinner party if you came with a group... Creative nigiri, a handroll, interesting serving vessels highlighted interesting fish and flavor combos, with a bit of uni, Wagyu, and caviar thrown in for good measure. Will definitely return.

The staff were friendly and greeted everyone when coming in. We all wanted to try a little bit of everything. So we all ordered multiple things to share. The ube muffins were nice and warm when it came out. It was baked perfectly! I can appreciate a good mini muffin that isn't dry. Next we had the deviled eggs.....I think I could have went without it. I might have expected a little bit more. It had a slight curry taste to it. But it reminded me of a normal deviled egg. The steak and eggs was a nice portion! I think it could have been shared, if you and the table are ordering multiple items. The skirt steak came with kimchi fried rice, sunny side up egg, gailan, and scallions. The salmon & avocado temaki set was so cute! I think it was one of my favorites! It came with a side of seaweed so you can make your own handroll. My one friend ordered the southport set. The presentation was nice, but the katsu was a little in the dry side for me. We all shared the honey butter toast. It was the perfect amount of sweetness to it! The chantilly cream gave it that perfect balance. The perfect way to end a meal. I will definitely have to come back for the dinner!!
