When we feel pretty tired, we like to order from Jin Asian Cafe. The staff does an amazing job. The wait time tops at 15 mins for an order pick up. My go-to food order the vegetable Singapore Chow Fun. It tastes heavenly! I like how the thick noodles absorb the curry flavor. It comes with carrots, mung beans, green onions, broccoli, sliced mushrooms and chopped green peppers. The green onions give the noodles a lift. The vegetables tastes perfect. Joseph orders the cashew chicken dinner. It comes with an egg roll and rice. In the dining room, the staff set up a ping pong table. A good way to entertain guests when they wait for their food orders. It makes Jin Asian cafe a fun place to go to. I highly recommend Jin Asian Cafe. This place is truly a hidden gem with affordable prices, friendly service, good portions, and delicious food. There weren't many people when we went but the hole in the wall vibe actually made it feel more homey. For the dinner specials you get to choose the type of rice and you get an egg roll with it, although if you order online you can choose a drink instead of the egg roll (all less than $15). My dish was pretty good, there were a lot of vegetables but I liked that since I don't get much of it otherwise lol. I got the sesame chicken and chicken fried rice for takeout. Prices were good especially for the amount of food you get in return. Staff was very friendly as well. I will say the chicken was a bit soggy, and there was definitely no crunch to it. Overall the chicken was just okay, but the chicken fried rice and egg roll were pretty good. A terrible Christmas day experience. The restaurant didn't have the heat on. The one waitress was very nice (we were the only people dining in the whole time. The food wasn't all that good. The crab rangoon had barely any filling--as in almost none. The eggdrop soup was fine (it was the only thing served hot). The chicken with broccoli was gross compared to what I had a few years ago (see my comparison photos!). Absolutely nothing stood out, and quite frankly, had I known the visit would be this miserable, we would've traveled out to House of Wah Sun. read more

I got the orange chicken, steamed rice, egg roll, and fried wontons. I did enjoy my dinner, and you are definitely getting your moneys worth for the amount of food you get, but I would probably try another entree next time. I got the orange chicken as medium spicy (level 2/3), and it unfortunately was not spicy at all, so if you like spice I'd go for the hotter level. The chicken wasn't crunchy and a bit soggy but the flavor was good. I liked the egg roll, and wontons were good as well. My roommate got the chicken fried rice and it was delicious. I was craving some egg rolls and decided to try Jin Asian cafe. I ordered two different egg rolls, beef skewers, fried shrimp and beef chop suey. I can't begin to understand the 5 star reviews. I always check reviews and come out with some great results when ordering. Everything was flavorless except the beef skewers which tasted as flavorful as salted beef. The egg rolls were not crispy. The fried shrimp was soft and mushy. The soup which was seafood. Named all these great ingredients but barely had anything in it. I counted 2 baby shrimp. The main has no flavor, no bamboo shoots.. and the flavor is barely there and I've never had the texture of meat this beef is giving off. I can't even eat it. I have never been so disappointed and more so it cost about $60. Don't waste your money here. Try anywhere else. read more

For such a simple restaurant, I have so many nice things to say about this place. This has quickly become my go-to Chinese spot, is the food fantastic? Ehh sometimes Is it reliable, inexpensive and just a great comfort meal? 10/10 So many Asian places in Chicago are so expensive it's kind of crazy. This is solid food, a great value and I believe a family run restaurant? If you're in the area looking for some fire orange chicken or some pretty good Mongolian beef, Jin Asian Cafe checks all the boxes. The lady that answers the phone is always very friendly, the food is quick and always pretty delicious. The lunch and dinner specials are some of the best in the city. I'm impressed! Large portions, good flavors, and food arrived hot and fresh. I'm a sucker for some greasy chinese food, and Jin Asian is just that. And perhaps a step above. Ordered the pot stickers, sesame chicken, and bbq pork fried rice. The fried rice was my favorite! Followed by the potstickers and sesame chicken. The rice came with lots of bbq pork pieces and carried a lot of flavor. The pot stickers were large and filled with chicken and veggies. Would recommend. The sesame chicken was just okay. Usually the chicken is fried and crispy, but theirs was a bit soggy, and I think they over sauced it. We ordered with our out-of-town cousin and her 5 year old daughter at Jin Asia last night.... again, the food was delivered quickly and it was hot ... and most importantly, it is always delicious... a top notch Chinese food spot. My cousin's daughter exclaimed "this is the best beef stir fried rice ever" and my cousin could not eat all she ordered because the portion sizes are huge. We all loved the food, especially the scallion pancakes ...they were full of flavor and yummy. They only do take out/delivery, currently, ad are closed on Tuesdays. Ordered delivery via GrubHub today for lunch. I had the garlic chicken, which is always one of my standards when trying a new (to me) Chinese place. The flavor was decent, the portion a bit small though. I also got Hot and Sour Soup. It was also good, but not great. As they are open for delivery on Mondays, I might order from them again as my favorite delivery spots for Chinese are closed on Mondays. Ordered the generals tso's chicken, Crab Rangoon and potstickers. Food was not good at all. Potstickers were thick and doughy and overall lacked flavor. The general tso was supposed to have vegetables and there was barely any and missing vegetables listed in the description (baby corn to be exact). The sauce was overly sweet and the breading became super soggy because there was SOO much of it. Crab Rangoon lacked flavor and tasted lemony. Won't be ordering from this place again. read more

This is my go-to local Chinese restaurant. My standard order is the Mongolian beef with steamed rice and a vegetable egg roll. Majority of hole in the wall restaurants use poor quality meat and the beef is usually tough and chewy, Jin Asian Cafe isn't one of them. The beef is extremely tender and well seasoned, their eggrolls are perfectly crisp and the customer service is great. I typically call 7-10 minutes ahead and they have my order ready to go! Tip- If you're ordering just for yourself, get the lunch (or dinner) special. It comes with rice and either an eggroll or a can of soda all for less than $10! read more

Here's the thing: I went on St. Patrick's day, and again last Friday night, and both times it was empty and a great place for a group of 7 to BYOB and get a quiet table. Last time, I got the dinner special, and you get a crazy amount of pretty good food for $8-$10. I liked the crab rangoon and the egg drop soup quite a bit. I'm another customer who was a longtime -- and very pleased -- customer of New Jeanny's....but after the change-over to Jin Asian Cafe, the quality went downhill. What used to be PERFECT eggrolls suddenly became mediocre at best. Now you can't get any soup without it being littered with green onions. (Yuck!!!) Even the fried rice started to suck -- now it's ruined with more peas than anything, really taking the flavor away from every other ingredient. Really, the only thing on the menu that hasn't gotten worse is the pot stickers. And just try to get duck sauce. You're lucky if you get one packet, and you practically have to put a gun to someone's head to get more than one for a group of four diners. It's sad. I've been a New Jeanny's customer for years. I know the staff didn't change because they still recognize my voice when I call (which will be no longer, btw). The name changed, and the quality was defenestrated. I can think of only two positive things to say, and it's not about the food: 1) Despite what a couple of the reviews have said, I found that delivery was lightning-fast, as it always had been with New Jeanny's, and 2) They still deliver to Edgewater; I know of a pizza joint not even a mile and a half away that says Edgewater is too far!! But again, this is irrelevant as I am now looking for a new Chinese place to patronize.... ...unless Jin Asian Cafe can guarantee that they are going back to the old ways. read more

Last night I had a great experience with this restaurant. I live right around the corner and was craving Chinese and still hadn't found "my place" here in Lakeview. As per others' recommendations I got the beef chow fun. I called in my order and they said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I was having my furnace replaced in my apartment and I couldn't leave until they were done. I told the woman on the phone I could pick it up around 8. When 8:20 rolls around and I still haven't picked my food up she called me and offered it to be delivered for no delivery charge! It was very sweet and it is great when a restaurant goes above and beyond for their customers. The beef chow fun hit the spot. I am a pretty picky eater and it was amazing. Just around the corner and they were SO FAST. I had 4 dishes (egg drop soup, orange chicken, beef fried rice, and 2 veggie egg rolls - a little uncreative on my ordering part but oh well) that all came out to ~$20. Good price point and the small of each of those dishes was PLENTY for two servings. Ordered for the first time for delivery last night. We ended up getting the dinner special of Governors Chicken (similar to General Tso), a large bowl of Beef fried rice, and Chicken Chow Mien Noodles. We also had a coupon for a free order of Crab Rangoon. The total, with tax and delivery fee (not including tip) was just under $30. The portions were of good size. I was definitely filled up on my Governors Chicken dinner plate (came with chicken fried rice and your choice of a soda or a egg roll). It was pretty tasty and give it two thumbs up. My GF could eat only half of her beef fried rice. Again, good portion size. The crab Rangoon (I do not like seafood) was good by her standards. My only complaint was the Chow Mien noodles. They were not good at all considering the price of $9. The chicken and veggies that came with it (they came separated from the noodles) were good, but the noodles were a mix between hard/crunchy and soggy. Too inconsistent, and it lacked flavor. Delivery time was quicker than anticipated. Ordering over the phone took longer than expected since the guy was having trouble understanding me. Overall, it wasn't the best Chinese I've ever had but was pretty good when considering everything. I'd give it a try if you have never been here before. read more

Beef Chow Fun brought me to Jin Asian Cafe, and I'm extremely thankful it did. Full disclosure I'm Chinese and like 100% of Chinese Americans, we need our fix of quality (maybe not always authentic) Chinese food...not daily but at least weekly. Living in Chicago 10+ years, it's been hit or miss with finding Chinese food without a Thai or some Asian fusion influence which usually does more harm than good. Essentially just get me some Beef Chow Fun, a crispy (vs soggy) General Tso's, and a dirty fried rice. Enter Jin Asian Cafe. I have found my new go-to Chinese place. As previously said, the Beef Chow Fun was proper, thick rice noodles with solid flavors in the beef. The Governor's (General Tso's) was a surprise...tangy sauce, still crispy chicken, nothing dry or overbreaded. The pork fried rice was that nice, fried brown color that I knew was going to hit the spot just on looks alone. The pot stickers were serviceable and how about two eggs rolls thrown in for free. Overall the food was tasty, the service (I got carry-out) was quick and prompt, the portions huge, and prices quite reasonable. Some might complain that the food may be a tad greasy, but any true Asian or lover of Asian food will embrace that any good wok will add some of that grease love. In my opinion it's a symbol of quality. I would ignore some of the service related low reviews below and give Jin Asian Cafe a try. If you're still searching for the replica of that Chinese place in your hometown you grew to love, Jin could step in and be a contender. Ultimately I've added another go-to spot in my Lakeview/Lincoln Park arsenal of carry-out places, and life continues to be oh so good! read more
