I have been to this Zippys on Nimitz and Pacific, not far from the airport a gazillion times. Most of the the visits have been after picking up rellies at the airport. I would ask them if they are hungry, and if they don't know what they want to eat Zippys always worked: I never heard any gripes afterwards. However, the most frequent reason I have been to this location is after a late night in town. This Zippys is 10 miles from Waikiki and was on the way home to Pearl City where I used to live. On my most recent visit after a late night in town, I ordered the regular size Hawaiian stew ($10.95), a side of mac salad ($2.65), and a large Orange Bang ($3.25). The stew came with two scoops rice and canned corn on the side. The stew was excellent. It was a large sized portion and was chocked full of good stuff: 5 Stars. It was a good way to end the night. The mac salad was very good. It was nice and creamy. However, the price was kinda high: 3.5 Stars. The ambiance is typical of a large Zippys. There is a sit down side, a casual side, and a Napoleons Bakery: 3 Stars. The service was below par. We went to the sit down side and we told our waitress there were 5 of us. She tried to put us in a booth for four. When we moved to a larger booth, she didn't bring the other menus. Mina our waitress only brings four waters and four place settings. Mina is FOB Flip so we joked, "I said pibe not pour!": 2.5 Stars - LOL! Despite the ratings on the latter area, you can't go wrong w/ most Zippys on the islands. The Nimitz location is the one to stop by and get your Zip Pac, Surf Pac or limited edition Kokua Pak ($8.08 and 50 cents goes to the Blood Bank), unless you "like" eat airline food. Having the Napoleon's Bakery adjacent is an added plus, because if you have a last minute event you want to celebrate, there are plenty of cakes and pies to choose from that they'll cut in half for you too!!!. read more

Temporary Review! First off, let me say I did not get the full Zippy's experience and I need to come back because I know it'll be better. I came here last week with some coworkers. Unfortunately, I was on a diet because I was cutting for a meet. The only thing I could order was the grilled fish was veggies. I got the grilled salmon with some side salad. The salad was like a premade chopped lettuce. The fish was like frozen fish they just slapped on the grill. It was dry, bland, and kinda fishy (good fish shouldn't be fishy). Just don't get it. Get some fried chicken. Anyways, everyone else's food looked and smelled amazing. So I need to come back to get some unhealthy, comfort food. As for the service, it was meh. Zippy's that used to be the first thing in my mind after coming home from a trip couldn't wait to get a Zip Pack. fast forward heh somethings never change I still think of getting a Zip Pack after coming back from a trip. But This isn't what I am writing about this time. We seem to like coming to this Zippy's because it usually isn't super busy and that the service is pretty good and has become our go to place after seeing a movie. The Menu has changed slightly from what it was before both good and bad the good is that there are more selections and combinations than before the sad is that the Banana Split is gone now awww... Well at least it was one of the few things that we used to get that disappeared. The reason we like this location is basically it is quieter than the Makiki or the McCully locations where you tend to get a little younger crowd in there or more families that are loud, this location still has the families but is much quieter and we always find parking easily right in front too. The food is consistent like all the other Zippy's and the selections are good. The biggest thing is we know that they won't be closing for the night on us and we tend to go late anyway. Do I really need to talk about the food? ok maybe a short bit, The Things I love at Zippy's are the Fried Chicken, Korean Fried Chicken, the Salads (Though it has changed from before), Zip Min(Saimin)!, Chili, the Teriyaki and of course the Desserts Yum! so if you're local then I probally will see you there at some point! :-) read more

Before coming to this place, I heard president Obama frequented one of the restaurants in the Zippy's chain. I wanted to see what the fuss was about. The menu features items such as spaghetti with tomato sauce, burgers, fries, salads. In the front of the menu, it offers the daily specials. The list is small. Your servers reminds you to take a quick look at it. The food tasted great! I ordered a vegetarian chili. Delicious! You have a choice of rice, or cornbread. I choose the cornbread. It tasted scrumptious! The price list looks decent: good for families and students alike and anyone on a budget. This place attracts different types of people: singles, families, friends, couples. I found the wait staff to be friendly. The service was quick. The servers interact with the customers. I would give it more of a 3.5 stars in reality, but this place wouldn't deserve 4 stars in my opinion. Came here with the family because we heard that it is like a "Hawaiian" version of Denny's. Wish we had this back in the mainland! It would be a great place to go for some late night grub. As far as the service goes, it is average. The waitress did not give us water until we asked for it. Other than that it was fine. FOOD: We ordered the Saimin and the Garlic Rib Steak. Garlic Rib Steak: a bit over cooked (we ordered medium rare). The corn that came it was simply boiled and bland. Butter would have been good with it. It is steak you would expect out of a diner Saimin: really good! Lots of different meats and flavors in it with a nice clear Japanese broth. Has to be my favorite Zippy's for the location. Recently picked up my car from Matson and meant to eat at Liliha Bakery, but there was no parking, and then I forgot that the Zippy's was next door. I sat at the booth by the window where you can see the street and the cars swooshing by. There's nothing like eating with a view. I'll admit that the place was a little on the empty side, like pandemic kine, and they looked short on staff. Either way, the old Pilipino ladies still showed some aloha and treated us well. A visit to Oahu wouldn't be complete without a stop at Zippy's which is why I stopped by last week. This was my 2nd time here and I wanted to try something different. On my previous visit I had loco moco and saimin. I have heard a lot about Zippy's chili but since I was starving I also wanted something filling and substantial. I looked around on the menu for some type of chili combo when the chili moco caught my eye. Perfect, a loco moco with chili instead of gravy! Best of both worlds. Rachel S was with me on this trip and she ordered a large saimin which is a great deal for under 6 bucks! The food came out fairly quickly and both the saimin and the moco were as delicious as I remembered. The saimin had a good soup base flavor and they weren't stingy with the noodles which was great. The chili moco tastes exactly like a loco moco with chili on top. The chili was good but didn't notice anything special compared to normal American chili that I've had on the mainland. The staff here is pretty efficient here with order taking and bringing the check at the end. The food pricing is very reasonable here considering their huge portions, and certain items on the menu would be considered very inexpensive. First, I noticed several customers waiting for service at the bakery counter but no one around to help. We continued to the takeout dining room and saw 2 employees working the counter. The phone was ringing off the hook but no one was answering it. When we got to the counter to order there was no friendly greeting or smile. It was obvious these guys were not having a good day. This is a very busy restaurant located at 666 Nimitz! Their food is so delicious that I'm salivating as I write this. I miss it already. The service was great and the staff were friendly. Parking is a bit difficult for large vehicles as the parking lot if always full. Give them a try when in the area or at any of their other locations. I enjoyed their breakfast cakes with Portuguese Sausage and an egg. Their root beer float is a great compliment to any entree! We beat the crowd at about 11am! Avoid this place for breakfast, this seems to be the hub for construction workers in the morning, I waited 45 minutes one morning for breakfast. Workers are welcoming and friendly. I seem to be a fan of the Zippy's fried chicken, sometimes over fried and too brown and too crispy, I never seem to have that problem at this location. How is this Only 3 stars?! Zippys is the BEST fusion of Hawaiian & Japanese food ever. Came here for breakfast with my boyfriend and we both got number 2s (spam, Portuguese sausage, scrambled egg, on top of fried rice with bacon in it). It was LITERALLY the Best breakfast I've had in a long time. I love Portuguese sausage- tasted like a less sweet version of Chinese sausage. It even had pockets of fat bursting flavor in your mouth with each bite. So good. The spam was sautéed and delicious. And the egg was cooked perfectly with just slightly too much oil. As if it wasn't oily and delicious enough, their fried rice is so flavorful. It's chewy, (I think they use glutinous rice), tastes like it soaked up bacon fat, and cooked with bacon. I am drooling thinking about it. Also, my boyfriend was waiting for me to eat and didn't notice he AC was spewing gross black ash on our food. The lady immediately remade everything for us, and even washed out my coffee tumbler before refilling it with coffee. She was so nice and apologize profusely for it. This location has a private parking lot too which is great. Wish I stayed in O'ahu just a few days longer to be able to eat more Zipps. Luckily for me they're opening a Las Vegas location in 2019!!! The only downside is that they used disposable and plastic everything - it created a lot of waste. Hopefully every restaurant (fast food or otherwise) can move to more sustainable and reusable cutlery and plates. read more

Next stop, Zippys! Unfortunately tonight must not have been a good night. I usually enjoy coming to this location off Nimitz Hwy. this establishment is clean and more appealing tha other locations nearby. We walked in and decided to dine in at the restaurant. We were seated pretty quickly, got our menus from the server and was left to peruse the menu. It was about 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server and at this time we placed our order to ensure we would get something to eat. It wasn't until our food came out, when we got beverages to drink which was a little irritating. A table nearby had to walk up to the fountain machine to fill their cup. They commented, it must be self serve. The food as usual is consistently of quality. I ordered the small Won Ton Min and Zip PAC. I didn't get any mustard for my saimin, but wasn't about to wait til tomorrow for it to come, so I dug in and enjoyed my food. The zip pac comes with hoki, Teri beef, spam, and a fried chicken. All this over some rice sprinkled with furikake. This is an all time favorite. Haven't eaten at zippys in a while so I decided I had to have me one. Other than the wait, the food was good but service needs improvement. Prolly gonna do take out here if I had to. This is only the second Zippys location I have eaten at and my first time eating in the restaurant area. I was not disappointed. The food was as good as I would expect from Zippys. I tried their grilled pastrami sandwich with onion rings and it was delicious. What really makes me give this zippys this high of a review is their service. My wife and I opted for Zippy's dine in at Nimitz instead of our regular stop by New Eagle just to be different and knowing Zippy's food is always consistent. We went on a Sunday morning just after 10:00 and this was the restaurant's last day before closing for renovations. So we proceed to the dining area and see that there will be a wait. There are 2 couples waiting ahead of us but it is not a problem. What is frustrating is that we are waiting and we see quite a bit of empty booths that have not been bussed. Don't they have a busboy? So they bus one table the seat a couple and repeat. Eventually we were seated given our menus. Then we waited and waited until we flagged down a server so we can get some water and coffee. We get the coffee and water and ask if we can order. I order the Zip Min with the shrimp on the side and my wife has the scrambled egg and hash. Our meals come in decent time and my shrimp is served on the side. Now I haven't ordered the Zip Min in a couple years but when did the shrimp get so small? It only took me 2 bites to eat it. Other than that the food was fine. We kept looking for our server to flag him down so we could refill our coffee but it seemed that we couldn't get anyone's attention. Eventually we asked and got our coffee. Then we waited and waited until we got his attention again so we could get the check. It seems that here you have to request everything because nobody checks on you to see if you need anything. I regretted not going to the take out side. First time to eat @ Zippy's. Went straight from the Honolulu Airport. I loved the Loco Moco. My son had the saimin. My husband had the korean fried chicken with chili. All tasted good. We came back the second time, but went to the Take Out section to order Loco Moco, Saimin & chili again. Lots of parking, service is fast, & not crowded when we went. Since the pandemic started this location on Nimitz has continually delivered poor service especially in the dining area. I've complained several times to no avail!!! Granted the restrictions are causing the delays in sitting accommodations, but the hospitality and poor management definitely needs to be looked into!!! When calling the main office to complain, one is connected to a woman who has been there over ten years. I know, i complained to her several times with no results!!! So we went to the take out side only to watch her seat 9 haole down instead on the dining room area. I will never recommend this zippys ever. She was the worst person ever to make us feel like shit like that and I had babies and kupuna in my party. She needs to get fired. She was the worst and the manager here let her do that. He was right there. She didn't and refused to seat us but did the haole after? Yea Pilau her and pilau the manager. They both should be fired for being discriminatory. The worst thing is she was older and looked Hawaiian/Filipino mix herself. Shame on her and this is The worst ever next to Zippys Kapolei. Dear Zippys...regarding your Nimitz Highway location...either close it or fix it. Please. Why should you close it? Because if you do, it wonʻt offer the temptation to pull in at 8:30 in the evening, hoping that maybe, just maybe...this time wonʻt be a disappointment. But no...tonight you only managed to have two people working the take-out counter, and one of them didnʻt seem to be able to handle. So the other one...the one with "Trainer" on her badge, had to man the register, take orders, then shuttle over to the other side of the counter to help fulfill the orders. Then both employees got into an argument with the kitchen over an "all-rice" order. So now, NO ONE was taking orders, manning the register, or fulfilling orders. They were just arguing with the kitchen. And then the more junior employee left the counter in what seemed to be frustration! Leaving the "Trainer" all by herself to man the register, take orders, and fulfill the orders. Resulting in an unacceptable wait time for my order. How to fix it? Better management. This location has always been a disappointment, which sucks, because the location COULD and SHOULD be of service to so many people who work early mornings, late nights, and everything in between. Your customers deserve better. Better service, and DEFINITELY better food. Oh, the food? The Zip Pac that I ordered was a sorry sight. The chicken was a burnt mass that didnʻt honor the poor chicken who had given its life to end up in that condition...the teri beef was a sad, TINY, dry, burnt piece of jerky, and the spam was another sad, burnt salty piece of jerky that would not have passed muster on a 17th century sailing vessel. So letʻs see...bad service, a long wait for food, drama behind the counter, and a $16 Zip Pac that was barely edible. At least the rice wasnʻt half bad. Having difficulty filling your positions? Then close the location so that you wonʻt offer disappointment as your main entree. Close it until you can adequately man the restaurant. Support your employees, service your customers, improve the quality of your food. Or just shut your doors. As for any future visits to Zippys (any location, as the issues that exist at Nimitz are indicative of the culture of your entire organization), I will be taking my business and my money elsewhere. read more

Missed Zippy's so much that on my last trip to the Islands we stopped after landing at HNL (9pm) and ate at the Nimitz location on the way into Waikiki. They are open 24hours everyday. The Chili Spaghetti was fantastic, a no miss item on the menu. (Well, so is the Mixed Plate, Spam and Eggs Breakfast, Beef Stew, Meatloaf, Saimin, and then there's the Bakery - Chocolate Naples!) The Chili Spaghetti was plenty filling. Chili just the right spice and texture to wolf down after the long flight from LA. The two garlic/cheese toasts are toasted to a crispy delicate flavored on top but soft and tasty everywhere else :) Topped off the meal with a Saimin cup, so plentiful with the Zippy's unique Saimin flavor. Come for the food not the service. Loved the food. Got the zip pac. I recommend the zip pac. Great for the indecisive person that doesnt know what to eat. You get the teri beef, fish,spam and their fried chicken. Omg, their fried chicken is to die for! Nice and crispy on the outside and moist on the outside. If you dont want the zip pac, get the fried chicken! I had the famous chili to see what it was all about and it was just ok. Try if you must. The service however sucked. The waitress was trying to rush us. She did not spark up a conversation and couldnt be specific on what was good or what she could even recommend. Then when checking out, she didnt bring back my change, like I was going to leave you a $4 tip for just taking my order and bringing it out. She didnt even refill my water! I would tip the cook but not the waitress. After talking to the bakery guy, he said that the fast food part on the opposite of the building was the same zippys food.
