I am an urban dweller without a car and I have a strong need to get out of the city often. I've been using Zipcar for 5 years now. I've taken Zipcars up to the mountains overnight and I've taken them over to the peninsula for the weekend to visit my parents and I've even taken them to eastern, WA for a long weekend. Granted it seems pricey at first compared to say, Enterprise. But I've put a pencil to it every time I've needed a car for a day or more and I've found that Zipcar wins every time. First of all the convenience of Zipcar is in of itself worth the money you spend--time is money sometimes. I can go grab a car (my choice) when I need it and not have to talk to anyone and go through the same rig amoral car rental places make you go through (unless you're a regular or frequent flier). That's just the perky part. Price-wise when you factor in gas, and insurance on typical rental car rates it always adds up to about the same daily rate. If you work for a company that might have a partnership with Zipcar it's worth looking into because there are some savings there. The only downside is Zipcar does have the daily mileage restriction of 180 miles per 24 hour rental. So if you want to go over to the peninsula you have to get a car for two days so you don't go over on miles. I wish they would allow more miles per day on the weekends but it usually ends up working out :) Also, I've learned you need to be a very responsible person to not get hit with Zipcar fees etc. Don't be late, don't lose the keys or it can cost you. Lastly, the Zipcar people are so responsive and courteous when you need to call them (which is rare). I almost rented a car this summer, I called to confirm my reservation and ask about the insurance at the downtown Enterprise and the guy was so rude to me, I cancelled my reservation and immediately got on my Zipcar app and reserved a Ford Escape with all the bells and whistles for my trip and it was actually way less cost compared to the small suv rental at Enterprise. I cancelled my membership because of their customer service. I honestly can't believe I kept it for this long and continued to use it as I've had issues in the past with them. Customer service is rude and only resorts to rebooking or charging you extra if you have an issue with the car and you go over your time. When I was trying to return the car I had, it wouldn't turn on at all. I still had more than enough time to return it. Maybe it was my fault for calling them right when I was supposed to return it, but I had been trying to turn the car on multiple times and nothing was happening. While on the phone, they insisted that the car wasn't turning on because the gas was low, which doesn't make sense, and couldn't have been true because there was still 1/4 tank left. They then gave me two options, rebook the car and be charged the late fee and the rebooking charges or have it towed and be charged all the towing and potential impounding fees. I argued that it wasn't reasonable to be charged the late fee because the situation was out of my control, but they wouldn't listen to me. I was constantly put on hold, even for the smallest questions or explanations, and when I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me it wasn't possible multiple times. I decided to rebook and they kept insisting that I fill up the gas even though it had the minimum amount needed to avoid fees upon return. But when I went to get gas, the gas card wasn't working even after multiple tries. I even called them again after returning to tell them it wasn't working and they brushed me off saying I had enough gas, so I wasted even more time with the car. In the end, I was charged $155 when the trip was supposed to only be $67. I considered calling to try and dispute this but I knew they wouldn't be helpful at all due to my past experiences. Their first suggestion is to always charge even more money to rebook the car but still paying a late fee regardless of if the situation was out of your control. I have been a member of Zipcar for 15 years. It used to be great! I loved it. Nice cars and good service if you needed service. Now, their cars have gotten more dumpy every year. No one can help if you call. You are put on hold for multiple minutes, and every time you call you are transferred, and you will be transferred. Not one person is helpful. I just booked a car for this evening and there was NO KEY TO START THE CAR. The agent told me that they had already had reports that there was no key in the car. Yet!! They still had it available to rent. Garbage nonsense every time you have to deal with them. read more

Terrible experience with the service and customer "support". I booked a car for 24 hours since I live further from the city and needed to run errands one evening and one morning. Since I needed the car in the morning I paid for it overnight. Come morning the car is impossible to get into because their locking/unlocking mechanism broke. so I had to wait in the cold for someone to come unlock the door. customer support wanted me to keep using the car or get a refund. I didn't feel comfortable using the car since it had broken features and I needed to be able to secure my belongings in the car while I used it. I had take time off work to use the car for my errands in the morning, the whole day off I took was ruined by having to go through getting locked out and having to return the car early. Because the trip was ended early they only gave me a $13 refund when I paid over $100 to reserve the car overnight to use in the morning. if I knew the car wasn't going to be useable in the morning, I would've booked the car for about 2hours the day prior and then got a new car the next day, but that is so out of my way it didn't make sense time wise. but because I didn't call them the night before to let them know their car wouldn't work the next day, I don't get a refund for keeping the car overnight. Once again, I wouldn't have paid to keep the car overnight if I thought it'd be uneusable the next morning. I can't even rebook a car for the amount of time I need for that refund. customer service was unwilling to refund anymore than $13 and I lost a full day of work, $100, and didn't get any of the things done I was supposed to use the car for. I paid ZipCar for a car rental and the next morning I received an email that is was time to pick up the car and provided a photo of the car and its location. I walked several blocks to the location but the car was not there! I called Zipcar help line and was told they would electronically honk the car's horn and I could follow the sound to its location... but I heard nothing and they admitted they didn't know where the car was located. They couldn't fine another and said they would issue a refund. This left in a very bad situation but I called a taxi and paid over $55 for the fare. At the end of the day I checked my ZipCar account to confirm the charge for the car that was not there was refunded. Instead they had charged me over $140 including a $50 late fee. When I requested an explanation I was informed they knew I had used the car because the reservation was opened and I had honked the car's horn!! Of course this was the horn that was sounded to help locate the missing car. I was told a supervisor would call me but of course no one ever did. Look elsewhere from ZipCar if you need a dependable rental. I rented an Enterprise car for 24 hours and paid a total of $36.00. read more

I want to make a complaint for a late fee (8mins late) because the parking issue and bad signal. it takes me 1hr on the call. The agent on the call keeps saying my trip doesn't exit on their system and he can't see late fee. the agent has no clue and just repeating there was no late fee. this is such a waste of time and energy trying to communicate with such a crappy company who cares nothing about customer experience. read more

I would have been a poster child for Zupcar right up until the very end. I've even given them good reviews so I always thought that their cars needed to be cleaned more but it was not until the very last rental that all the sudden Zipcar became the number one enemy. I had made the mistake of taking a nap before I was supposed to return a car and I overslept by about an hour and I woke up frantic to get the car back as I was on my way to return the car I called because of course I had been already locked out of the car due to it being late and I was told verbatim to not worry about returning the car that Zipcar would handle the recovery of the car. the very next morning I received a phone call from somebody identifying themselves as being from Zipcar corporate and they told me that the car had still yet to be returned and that they were wondering if I would please return the car well I told them sure and it was at that point where he told me that to return the car he needed to book me into a micro reservation in the car because of the time spent of me being in the car and driving it to where the drop off spot was that it was going to cost me money and money that I did not have in my checking account and I informed the gentleman of that it's when at that moment he became very hostile and said that if I didn't return the car that I would be charged hundreds of dollars in recovery fee and I told him I'm sorry I cannot return the car because I don't have the money to book said reservation. It was a few days later that I found out that I had been suspended from the platform indefinitely which was a joke because that day that they told me that I was suspended they had just taken my next month's membership fees which was insult to injury and then I found out they were trying to charge my checking account over $500 for the recovery of the vehicle. I had to cancel my debit card to try to prevent them from charging my account and I called them and told them that I was here by revoking any authorization that they had to try to debit my account further. Somehow they were able to still charge my account the $538 I unfortunately was unable to dispute the charge as somehow they were able to finagle their way into my bank's good graces and were able to make the charge stand. At the end of the day I was charged 538 for a vehicle that I had already offered twice to return and was told the first time to not worry about it and the second time it was going to cost me money that I didn't have but then months later they were able to get for me anyway after I had gotten paid for my work I would never wish zip car on my worst enemy read more

BEWARE OF ZipCar, they will charge you for fraud on their fuel card!!! It could cost you thousands!! Three weeks ago I rented a van from Zipcar, I returned the van with no issues and refuelled once during the trip. One week after the booking they suspended my account and have accused me of using the fuel card for additional fuel purchases. I had proof I was on the other side of London with the van at the time of the fraudulent transaction but they didn't care. They insisted I pay for the fraudulent transaction and threatened contacting the police, they didn't seem to care it would have been impossible for me to have used the card at that time and location for fuel. Lucky for me the false transaction was only £40 but imagine if it was a larger amount. I have been a loyal customer with them for many years but doesn't count for anything. If you rent a car with them you are taking a big risk!! read more

Cars are often poorly maintained mechanically. Having to return the car to the same location is usually a redundant hassle, compared to other ride share services. It costs half as much to rent from a car rental location for a full day, then it is to get a zipcar for two hours. The app sometimes works, sometimes not. They upcharge tolls and don't put it in your account payment history, so you can't track them. I subbed for three months, rented a car twice for three hours each, and paid nearly $300 total. DO NOT USE ZIPCAR! My bank marked my first sign up attempt as fraud. I fixed that and applied again. They used the payment from my second attempt for the first. Didn't reprocess the first and marked the second as failed due to non payment. I wish I could give 0.5 stars. And I wish I could go back to a time before I knew Zip. I was taking a day trip with friends, and we were on our way back, about two hours away, when the back side panel of the car popped out (we did not cause this, it happened when we first started driving but we pushed it back in and it did not come out again for hours. The damage on the side panel was intensive and we were concerned it would fall off completely and hit another car.). We had to keep pulling over on the freeway to push it back into place until we got to a gas station. When we were able to pull over an contact roadside assistance, they were entirely unhelpful, and instructed us to leave the car and use a ride share service to get home (TWO HOURS AWAY AND AT 11 PM). Furthermore, they said they would only be able to reimburse us $35 for the ride home. In what world is that enough? IN WHAT WORLD? To humor ourselves, we checked the cost of that ride home, and it would've been $350. If I was willing to pay for a two hour Ub@r home then why would I ever use Zipcar. Why would I ever use Zipcar when their vehicles and support are so unreliable they'd try to leave you stranded in a gas station in the middle of nowhere at night when you are a YOUNG WOMAN, just a YOUNG GIRL. They only gave us an extra hour of time, uncharged, to make it back to the return location despite being delayed for over an hour due to this car. Because a group of young girls is obviously unwilling to try to get a two hour Ub@r home at night (seriously who would pick that up), we bought duct tape at the gas station and stitched up the sides of the car in hopes it would last until we got home. I hope that anyone who chooses to continue to use Zip has a safe journey, and I hope that the customer service you receive if you so happen to be in a car that's falling apart two hours away from home at night is better than mine was. read more

We rented one under my friend's account two days ago and part of the back panel of the car popped out while we were on the freeway. We pulled onto the shoulder multiple times to fix it until we could get to a gas station. We called roadside support, and they told us to IMMEDIATELY leave the car and find our own way home. We were two and a half hours away at 11 at night. When we asked how, they suggested Uber and told us they would reimburse us for the new travel up to $35 dollars. We told him we weren't comfortable doing that because a) we were six young women at an out-of-the-way gas station after dark and the car was our only protection (at least we could lock it!) and b) an uber back home would have been over $350 (we checked!) and--even if we could afford to do our road-trips via Uber--what driver would pick that up??? So we asked if we could tape the panel on and keep driving and he said, "To be honest, I don't really know anything about auto stuff." Personally, I had thought the roadside assistance help desk knowing about cars was a safe assumption. They agreed that we could tape it on. However, we paid for the tape ourselves. We also asked if we could have a fee-free extension because we had spent over an hour on the phone with them and pulled over many times. They said they could extend our time an hour and no more (even though we explained many times that we had spent way more than an hour dealing with this). Then we--of course--STILL received a late charge when we miraculously managed to be just under an hour late. I hope the tape on the car served as a warning for the next unfortunate zipcar users. If you are looking for a similar service, I recommend Gig. Their customer support is much more helpful, and I doubt they would leave you stranded in the middle of the night. read more

ZERO STARS This was the worst car rental experience and any service experience of my life. TLDR: we were locked out of the car for hours with our stuff inside. We almost missed our train home. They had to sent a lock pick and a tow to move the car. The car was disgusting inside too. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. I'd planned a day trip to Seattle with my dad (74) for some time. We've had our share of hardships and I wanted to take him on a day trip to Seattle. Something to get him out of the house and help take his mind off things. Anyway... we took the train in and reserved a car in the city for when we arrived. The moment we get to the car, it was pretty gross inside. It was vacuumed sure, but the chairs were stained and there was gunk caked up in almost every compartment and crevice. First there were issues even getting out of the garage. There were no parking passes or any instructions on how to leave a paid parking garage. Once we figured it out, we were relieved to just get our trip started. Next, we drove to a standard, underground parking garage. Didn't think anything of it. I used the door lock to lock the car instinctively (normal thing to do) then realized I needed something out of the car. The app wouldn't unlock the car. I don't have a card because as it's advertised on their site, "You can start right away! Unlock the car with your phone! NBD! You don't need the card!". We we're immediately locked out of the car with all our belongings trapped inside. There wasn't service in the garage so the Bluetooth connection didn't work to unlock the car. I had to take the elevator outside to call for help. I was between phone support and their chat services. We spent hours going back and fourth with customer service, elevators up and down from the car, to get help. Finally, (again, after hours) they decided to send both a lock pick and a tow truck to the car. They said the lock pick would get there in 45 and the tow truck would take an hour and a half. We would miss our train home which was the last train home if we waited for the tow. The lock pick guy showed up in 10 mins because he was in the area and broke into the car so we could get our belongings out. We ended up having to abandon the car in the garage because there wasn't a way to start it without service. Zipcar even said to abandon the car. My dad (74) and myself had to walk through the city back to the train station to go back home. Our trip was supposed to be full of food, museums, and just hanging out with my dad, not thinking about awful things. Instead we took a train to get locked out of a car for 5 hours, then went back home. The issues we had are not one-off issues. They've experienced this before. Read the other reviews (I was foolish and didn't). THIS IS NORMAL FOR THEM. MASSIVE OVERSIGHT. Our entire trip was spent dealing with Zipcar. Do not rent from them. It's a terrible service. I regret every second. I can't believe how bad of a company this is. Do. Not. Rent from them. Even the lock pick guy said to not rent from them. Terrible terrible time. Truly. Also, my dad tried to sign up first. They immediately rejected him, didn't tell him why, and didn't issue a refund for the application fee. He has a clean driving record, excellent driver, doesn't have any conditions, is a TOTAL SWEETIE, has drivers insurance, a normal drivers license... insane. We're convinced it was age discrimination. I use(d) Zipcar because I don't have a car for an extended period and my work is primarily event-based, art/street markets/etc. I booked my latest event and booked a car a month plus in advance, and they cancelled my car about an hour and a half before I was scheduled to pick it up due to "unforeseen circumstances" and "We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration, this situation could have caused," as if I was just planning an outing to the beach or wanted to go ~*~shopping~*~ or something, and the agent I reached when I called customer service treated me like I was stupid and just didn't check if the payment had gone through (a month ago). The email told me I'd get an account credit *on a future trip," but I'm seriously looking into small business loans because I would rather just use up MY money in my Zipcar account and then never use them again, and I advise you never using them either, business needs or otherwise. You'll be strung along for a month, and then given an "oops, we had to cancel, but you can keep using us because we tied up your money" email instead of a replacement car option or refund to your actual account where your rent/food/other survival expenses come out of, just because they want you to book again. First time I used Zipcar and I will never used them again. The worse customer service.. I booked my trip and I found a car that is close to location. For some odd reason I check my reservation 30 min before I have to pick up my car and it say the car you rent is no longer available and replacement will be shortly. I was like what the heck, so I called the customer service and this is what they told me we have a car for you but it's about 13 min walk and it's smaller. I booked a van 7 seater and they gave me A 5 seater. By the way it's not 13 min walk I have to take a Uber spend 15$ extra to get the car. This is the supervisor told me when I ask if they can get a car where my original reservation. She said we can't do that and I ask what is the best option let me tell you it really made me angry. You can get the car I offer you or cancel the reservation. I was like excuse me, I didn't fuck up they did but the customer have to suffer. Ohh I forgot to mention why they pull the car last min because it say they need to put in a service. So you tell me.. out of no where 30 min before I'm about to pick up the car it's not safe to drive it.. hmmmmm interesting. But of course I have no choice to go to there route because I have no choice and the time I have to leave it's approaching. When I get there omfg the car is good but it's dusty, it smell, there's a big dent, scratch. I was like I guess this is how they take care of this car or maybe no one really rent the car coz of there service.. so I spend at least 30$ round trip for Uber plus the rental that I return round 2 hrs earlier and still charge me the same price and more coz I went over the 180 miles and I get that no complain. But man I will never rent with them again and I'm canceling my membership with them . Had a terrible experience with Zipcar. The application fee felt like a money grab, but I dealt with it. Fine. I go to pick up the car I had reserved. It was smelly, there were stains all over the seats and the exterior of the car was incredibly dented - it was to the point that I was concerned it was not cosmetic and was I sure if it was safe to drive. Also incredibly embarrassing to drive around a car in such ill repair. Not to mention the metal wire that kept the key attached to the car was frayed and I cut myself on it multiple times. I was already planning on terminating my membership and never dealing with zipcar again. Then I got an automated email stating that due to my driving record they had permanently closed my account. Excuse me? I had been approved for the account, my driving record has not changed. Additionally the ONLY thing that could be on my record is an accident years ago that I was legally not at fault for. I did not damage the car, I did not break any traffic rules while using the zipcar. Felt like a slap in the face. In conclusion, I would only recommend zipcar to somebody I didn't like. this company has no respect for the neighborhoods that they supposedly serve. They routinely monopolize all the charging spots during primetime hours, so that other drivers cannot charge their cars these chargers were not put there for the exclusive use of Zipcar. at the Central District and queen and locations of electrify America charging stations. They routinely will fill up all the spots when there are one or two charging ports that are out of order they have no consideration for anyone do not use this company. read more

The mobile phone is poor so always use the web. The rates are reasonable. Locations are good Car selection and availability is mixed in my location The reason for the one star customer service and car reliability. Just appauling. Trying to get any answer out of them and then a consistent answer is just awful. I was a call center manager and obviously they have no training or program for customer satisfaction. Example I can't drive the car it has a flat tire at 4am. 20 mins to work out get a refund and take a personal hit on my weekend hotel, go rent a car myself or hey what about roadside assistance. If I could give zero stars, I would. I used Zipcar back in July 2021 and the battery died on me. I had to call Zipcar Support and was on hold for ~30 minutes and then had to wait ~2 hours for them to get someone over to me to help. Once I got back, my designated parking spot was taken, so I called Zipcar Support again, was instructed to find on-street parking somewhere else. I searched for 30+ minutes and had no luck (it was July 4th night in a busy neighborhood). I called again and was told to find a parking garage nearby. I called again after I parked in the garage and was apprehensive about it since it was a paid garage, but was told that it was fine and that they'd take care of it. It sounded like they were going to send someone over soon to re-park it so I didn't think it'd be a huge issue. Four months later, I receive a $100+ charge from Zipcar for the parking ticket + their violation fee. I contacted Zipcar Support to inquire because I thought this was a little unfair, especially when I was told by someone on their end that it was fine to park where I did. I was told that I was directly responsible for this violation ticket so I had to pay for it. Even before this incident, getting in touch with Zipcar Support has been nearly impossible and when I'm able to contact someone, they're inept and obviously not trained in customer satisfaction at all. This car sharing service is garbage and I do not say this lightly. Pretty much any other car sharing service is better than using Zipcar. read more

My wife created a Zipcar account two years ago as a backup option (but never used it) because we had an annoying one-time situation with one of the competing car sharing services we normally use. We failed to understand - that's our fault - that it would rack up membership fees, with no reminders from them until her credit card info became outdated - and of course in the meantime we completely forgot that we were even a member. When that happened - last night - we started to receive an e-mail from their system every hour (!). At first we thought it was some spam gone wild, but then we dug out the login info, logged in and tried to pay and close out the account. Not possible on the website, of course. The CSR I then talked to was very hard to understand due to thick accent, which made me very uncomfortable asking every second time what he just said. After an unhelpful and frustrating discussion the CSR hung up on me! We have no need for this limited service as there is no Zipcar parking lot nearby, and we certainly don't have a need getting bombarded with e-mails from them out of the blue after hearing nothing from them while they could silently milk our CC (our fault for not noticing). Non-proactive, unfriendly and very hard to understand CSRs who have the nerve to hang up on customers certainly don't add any value. read more

***Beware*** I thought I hit the lottery with using Zipcar's commuter plan until I was in the middle of a 6 car pile-up on I5. Obviously their car was totaled. Car accidents are traumatic and stressful and Zipcar's poor customer service was absolutely the worst. They could never give any answers. Every time I called, answers were different - OR, they said Member Services would reach out in 1-2 business days and they never did. My membership was cancelled but Zipcar continued to charge me for a monthly fee. I called and emailed, asking for a refund. I never got a reply to emails, and on the phone call side, the obvious answer from Zipcar was "Member Services would be in touch in 1-2 business days." Were they? No. I told them that if I didn't get a reply or refund I would dispute the charge with my credit card company. THAT got their attention - AND they STILL said I was liable for the charge. It wasn't until I sent an email listing all of the reasons I am not liable for the charge that about a week later, I got an email saying the charge had been lifted. Folks, this is 6 weeks of back and forth. Not worth the headache. DO NOT let the convenience of Zipcar trick you. read more

If I could, I would give Zipcar a zero rating. I tried to join and Zipcar denied me because they could not charge my card. I checked all my cards balances before joining. My balances were fine. I also checked my transaction history. Not one card showed an attempted charge from Zipcar. NOT ONE! Clearly the issue is probably that they do not accept the type of credit cards I was using. I have mainstream credit cards. If I had known upfront not to use my Chime card... I would not have! Chime just happens to be my preferred card for all my monthly bills! All it takes is one time for the payment to miss and you can never be a member again. This is bad business ESPECIALLY since they don't list on their website what type of credit cards they will not accept! I have never been so disappointed in something I thought would be awesome. I was charged over $100 for a 2 hour trip because I ran 15 min over the time I had scheduled... at midnight. Insane fees for minor transgressions, general over pricing of the product, two malfunctioning cars, and terrible customer service when I called about the account is why I am giving them one star. Be advised that they will charge you double if you cancel your trip. I reserved a 3:30-6:30pm slot but found out the event I was heading to was cancelled just 15 min into my rental (3:44pm). I was charged the $33.82 rental fee plus another $33.82 for canceling. You read that correctly. So whatever you do, even if you fond out that you don't need the car after all, don't cancel your reservation or they will screw you. I thought I was doing the right thing by making the car available for someone else who might need it for the remaining 4-6pm block of time. I guess the company doesn't appreciate my considerate behavior. I threatened to report this fraudulent billing to my cc company if they didn't refund the cancelation fee. I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB. - As a follow up, Zipcar saw my rating and chose to reverse the cancelation fee. On 8/3/18 I rented a zipcar and, due to traffic, was 11 minutes late to return the vehicle. Despite the fact that no one had reserved the car after me, Zipcar chose to penalize me by charging me $50 for going 11 min past the return time. Go "F" yourself Zipcar. I'm officially done with you and will be sure to warn anyone thinking of doing business with your company to think twice. read more

I had a scenario wherein I booked a ride and got charged $82.64. I, unfortunately, could not ask for a refund on the day and after life got in the way, took a few months to finally get on a call to ask for a refund. I did not even touch the car or open the ride and despite it being a one-off situation, I did not get a refund or a single penny back. Spoke to a rep and a supervisor and it was bad. They did not even provide me a link to put in a customer review. Horrible service. Canceled my membership. Use a gig and have a much better experience. Thanks read more

Once was enough! What a miserable experience. Our boat tour ran longer than expected so what impact did that have? We were parked in a garage in downtown Seattle in a less-than-desirable area, and Zipcar shuts down the ability to start the car! This put me and my wife at risk for our safety. NO THANKS!! Took excessivly long to contact Zipcar and get the car restarted (over 15 minutes just to get them to answer the phone). Then we got hit with ENOURMOUS fees for going past the stated time. You can't cancel easily online either. You have to CALL them to cancel and I was again on hold excessively (27 minutes) before someone finally answered. "We're experiencing more calls than usual". This is the same message we got when we were locked out in the garage. "More calls than usual" is a euphemism for: We don't have enough staff. The agent takig my call was rude, and would only provide a first name: no last name extension, reference number, NOTHING! I can see why they were ranked F by Better Business Bureau in 2017 (as per Wikipedia). read more

Rented a car today on 8/15/22 and had the worst experience. First car had a dangerous foot-long crack across the windshield, second car was not at pickup spot, third car was covered in dirt, dust, trash, used gum, cigarette stains, sticky goo on the steering wheel and no gas. when arriving at the gas station we found there was no fuel card. It took 2 hours to find a car and there was no helpful assistance from any representative. We dropped the car off hours early and we're charged 3x the amount it should have been without explanation. No one has been able to give a refund for the missed hours, the gas, or the overcharge. Terrible experience and will never use this ridiculous company again. read more

The website is horrible. You cannot find pricing or locations of zipcars there. They run you around in circles to their FAQ that doesn't answer specific questions. Trying to call for an agent on the phone? Fuggedaboutit. & no online help, either Even the log in & pw wouldn't work after setting up an account. When my Zipcar broke down, I was on and off the phone with customer support for 2 hours supposedly waiting for a tow truck. Finally, the tow dispatch called me and told me that they had been waiting over an hour for Zipcar to call and tell them if the car was in a low clearance parking garage. During at least 3 different calls, I had told Zipcar customer service that yes, the car is in a low clearance parking garage. Finally, at the 2.5 hour mark (11:30pm on a work night), they allowed me to leave the car in the garage and get another Zipcar that was 1 block away. I had been asking to use the nearby car from the first call I made to customer service, so they made me wait for 2.5 hours for no reason. Apparently it's their policy to make you wait for an unreasonable amount of time, they kept alluding to the 2 hour mark being the time that I could get another Zipcar. Zipcar customer service is clearly inept. Be careful where and how far you drive your Zipcar, you might end up stuck for quite awhile. Luckily, I was in the middle of a major city. read more
