I want to share my experience so other renters can make informed decisions. When I arrived at the Fox Rent A Car counter at Seattle Airport, the first employee who assisted me was Zino. During the paperwork, he asked about my travel plans. I mentioned that I would be driving in both Washington State and Vancouver, Canada. He immediately told me that unless I purchased Fox's Gold coverage package, my rental vehicle would not be insured while driving in Canada. This didn't sound right because I have full coverage auto insurance. Before my trip, I had already confirmed with my insurance company that my policy extends to qualifying rental vehicles in Canada. I even offered to show him my insurance documents. Instead of checking the information, he repeatedly insisted I was wrong and told me, "Sir, I do this every day." Rather than making a rushed decision, I stepped away and called my insurance agent again, as well as a friend who works in the rental car business. Both confirmed that my insurance already covered my rental vehicle, so there was no need to purchase additional protection from Fox. I went back to the counter and was helped by a different representative. I specifically told her that I did not want any optional insurance or protection products. To my surprise, after reviewing my contract, I found that a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) had still been added at roughly $34.99 per day. It was never pointed out or explained during the transaction. Thankfully, before leaving the rental lot, I carefully reviewed the agreement and asked to speak with the manager. The female manager immediately understood my concern and removed the charge without any argument. She was professional, respectful, and honest, and she completely changed what could have been an even worse experience. My disappointment is not that optional insurance was offered--that is normal in the rental industry. My concern is the inconsistent information provided by different employees and the fact that optional coverage was added even after I clearly declined it. She asked me to initial several times to acknowledge that I declined these things on a tablet. All you see is a black screen. "Initial here to decline xxx..." and you do it. After returning the car, I was emailed the total, which was $200 over what it should have been. I called their billing department and was told it was from the loss-damage waiver. They refused to remove it because it's on the rental agreement. I request the rental agreement, and sure enough, there are initials for "chose to purchase" the LDW. Having rented cars all my life, I have never opted for this insurance. So the agent either 1) modifies my initials to place them at the "chose to purchase" or 2) asks me to initial to decline the service on the chose to purchase line. The tablet you sign on is black and blank; you assume you're signing for what they say you are. Either way, without my consent. 0% transparency, 100% deceptive, deceitful, and fraudulent. When I showed up for my rental, they rented out my reservation that I made 3 weeks earlier to someone else (literally used my reservation number). The front desk issued me a new reservation. I noticed the rental agreement was different/incorrect. I asked for a fix and the front desk agent said all he could do was sign the appropriate rental agreement amount that was handwritten on the rental agreement. Fast forward, and I turned in the rental one day early (instead of two days). When I did get a rental receipt emailed, it reflected an incorrect amount. Nearly double what my reservation should have been. I contacted customer service, and she argued with me that it was a walk up rental until I literally had to send in the signed receipt and my original reservation number. She then didn't have the authority to resolve, so she elevated. She never did recognize that I was overcharged by one full day. I never heard any follow up from Fox. During this time I received two survey requests from "operation managers". I responded outlining the above situation. One responded saying they were looking into and the other did not respond. After two days, I checked my credit card, and it reflected the original reservation amount. Since this was reimbursed by my employer, I didn't call to argue that I was overcharged for a second day. Traveling in from Chicago to Seattle my flight was delayed, gate changed, and held repeatedly for 9 hours changing my arrival time from around 2 pm to 10:55 pm on Sunday. My VW car reservation was already fully paid through Travelocity so there were no concerns. The car pickup and drop-off were arrange by Travelocity in accordance with my flights. However, when I arrived I was told my car rental request EXPIRED because I was over 2 hours late for the pickup (DESPITE BEING PRE-PAID). At first it was hinted there may be no cars, then I was advised that if I still wanted the VW car reserved there would be a $30 PENALTY (LATE ARRIVAL FEE). Angrily I just wanted the damn car to get to my final destination ASAP. I bought the fuel package that allows them to pre-charge a full tank and refund what is not needed. I called on Tuesday morning to challenge the PENALTY after PRE-PAYMENT and met a TOTALLY IGNORANT, ARROGANT, and UNYIELDING customer service rep AND her Manager. I was further advised that Fox was calling the PENALTY FEE an "UPGRADE FEE" even though I kept the same car. The manager stated my only recourse was to arrive at the rental facility later in the day..... STAND IN LINE.... HAVE A PERSON OF AUTHORITY FOUND.... and NEGOTIATE a resolution. I told them my flight time was close to my arrival and that was UNREALSTIC. The alternative was to wait until post-rental and call to debate it some more. At that point I reminded them that since my rental start time was later, my maximum time with the vehicle was 2 days, not 3 days as initially requested. I was also told that WAS NOT POSSIBLE BASED UPON MY TICKET TIMES (which changed). The car was picked up Sunday at 11:00 pm and returned on Tuesday at 4:00 pm... not even two days. I requested help from Travelocity which only led to promises.... I asked the Fox Agent receiving the PRISTINE car on Tuesday if I would be getting a fuel credit and only billed for 2 days and was told YES! When I finally arrive in Seattle at midnight, the clerk at Fox advised me that I'd have to pay a late fee. When I went through a toll gate, the pass did not work, and I had to pay the toll with my own credit card. Took the shuttle from the airport to the rental counter. And of course, there was a long wait to be helped (service was friendly however). Expedia seemed to have the best rates with Fox, but when you get up to the counter you find out there's all kinds of additional fees that Expedia didn't cover (additional insurance for things that Expedia didn't cover, gas, other taxes and fees). Ashley at the front desk confirmed with me that I did not want the liability insurance and I signed the little screen also I told here i would be 60-90 min late on the return and she said that was a $10 fee. None of that happened. I was charged for the insurance (yes I did not read the printed form) and i was charged $60 even though I returned the car 73 minutes after the time. There was no one receiving the cars btw and the sign says to leave the key in the car so I did. They received the car into the system 1.5 hours later (not when i returned it). They asked me to prove that. I sent my boarding pass showing my flight time but nope. They took my $60 and the insurance I declinded. So end of the day, yea, they are cheaper but they are incompetent so make sure you read your contract CAREFULLY and I recommend taking a picture of the car when you turn it in so you have a time stamp. Renting a car from Fox rent a car near the Seattle airport. It's just a free bus ride away and many of the other car rental places are in the same building together. The time I was here was around 11:00 AM and they had three employees working the desk for the patrons to get their car rentals. Waited for a little while but still wasn't horrible. We got an SUV Hyundai and it was comfortable. The interior and everything seemed super clean and not dirty at all. Didn't have any issues with the car it drove nicely. Staff could be a tad bit happier but I get it they have to deal with so many people that it probably gets annoying. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I reserved a car to be picked up at 12:30 AM, as my flight was scheduled to land around midnight. My flight had a slight delay, and deboarding took longer than expected. I got to the Fox counter at 12:57 AM -- still before their listed 1:00 AM closing time -- but was immediately told to leave. As I approached, the woman behind the counter pointed at me and said, "Get out of here, we're closed." I explained that I had a reservation and had just gotten off a flight. Her response? "I don't care, we're closed and we're out of cars anyway. Go back to the hotel or wherever you came from." It was shockingly rude and completely unprofessional. I told her I had just flown in and wasn't about to just fly back home. That's when she told me to take it up with her manager down in the garage -- so I did. While he wasn't rude like she was, he also couldn't explain why my reserved car wasn't available. All he said was that it had been a "busy day." In the end, he gave me his company car -- a Camry -- even though I had reserved an SUV. No apology, no explanation, no price adjustment. But I do appreciate that he was at least professional and willing to work something out. Fox completely failed to honor my reservation, treated me with disrespect, and left me scrambling in the middle of the night after a long flight. Wish I had read others reviews first... Arrived at Sea-Tac to July 11th- after a long delayed flight. I was exhausted and the Fox rep was kind and friendly. When we started to discuss upcharges, I specifically declined as I have AAA and USAA insurance which covered a few of Fox's add-ons. Yet, when I got my bill, I was charged for these items. I called customer service and they said I initialed the screen for these items and there would be no refund. Why didn"t the rep say, "Do NOT initial here since you have AAA and USAA?" Those items cost another $100.00+ Fox told me to email the Sea-Tac branch which I did. This is there response. "I've looked into your rental charges and see that you were billed for roadside assistance and the Loss Damage Waiver, which fully covered you while you had the vehicle. We recognize that the small screen for signing can be tricky to read. To help prevent confusion, our agents also ask customers to initial the printed statement of charges. I've included a copy of that statement here. With both your signed rental agreement and the initialed statement of charges, you had clear opportunities to review and discuss any charges before finalizing your rental. Since these coverages were in effect and provided you with full protection, we must respectfully deny your refund request." YET- I could not have been clearer with the FOX rep I had other coverage for these charges and decline these add ons, and HE SAID NOTHING while he told me to sign (I assumed to decline!) Admittedly, I was tired and assumed he would charge appropriately, not sneak the charges in without me realizing. The actual car rental was $169, the final bill $475!!!!!!! I get some taxes and fees, but really???? TOTAL BAIT & SWITCH, TOOK ADVANTAGE. LAME!!!!! UPDATE 8.8.25: Just got a bill from FOX for $81.55 for tolls!!!!!! First, let me say the rep offered a $13 p/d toll fee to cover any tolls. He then said going across the bridge could cost 23$ each time (which my son told me was BS.) So, I said no thanks as I didnt expect to use toll roads in our weekend. But, we ended up using tolls roads for a grand total of $21.55 for the entire three days. The worst car rental experience I ever had. It all felt like a scam. I booked a Jeep Grand Cherokee (or similar) through booking.com When I came to pick up the car (after a long wait in line), I was told by the representative that the car I booked is not AWD. Since I was heading to the mountains I needed to upgrade (additional $240 + taxes on top of the original $89 + taxes). While at the counter I heard multiple reps telling the same thing to few other customers. I opted for prepaid gas. I never received the rental agreement by email as told. After returning the car while on the shuttle to the terminal, I received the final bill for $653!!!! I was charged $9.49 a gallon instead of $3.19. I was charged more than $200 in fees. I tried calling but couldn't get hold of anyone. Finally I was able to reach customer service (not at the location) who told me I need to speak with the billing department on Monday. I posted the same review on Google. They replied to my review immediately asking me to contact them directly through their website for resolution, which I immediately did but no one got back to me. The elder lady in the middle, spoke like she was in a hurry and too fast. Worked for her, but not for me. I can't believe how slow they are. 45 minutes to get my car. Plus another 20 minutes to wait while they "brought the car over". Note that none of the other rental car companies had any lines, they were all clearing out customers quickly. Also, many people who rented cars after me were able to get their cars before me. To add insult to injury, the car was filthy on the outside when I got it, making the damage report that much tougher. I'm not sure what Fox's problem is, but they are terrible, and I will never use them again. Guy behind the counter when we were picking up the car was rude from start to finish and talked like he had marbles in his mouth. Seriously, we could only understand 50% of the words coming out of his mouth, and when we asked him to repeat himself, he was visibly annoyed and rude.
