Due to their staff, I have been using Gerber Collision & Glass for many years when I occasionally need auto body work done. However, on two separate occasions now (years apart), my right side mirror got bumped and misaligned. On both occasions, they were able to squeeze me in to their very busy schedule and get the mirror fixed within minutes. That's what I call service! read more

I was referred to Gerber by my insurance company. The damage was minor, but my vehicle is new and I wanted it repaired. Upon getting an estimate I learned that it would be 7 weeks until they could accept my vehicle. I didn't mind - the vehicle is drivable and I know there are staffing problems in many businesses. I took my vehicle in on the arranged day and was told I would get text updates on Tuesday and Thursday of each week until completion. I received no such messages and after 2 weeks I called to inquire the status. I learned they had not started the repair, it would be 2-3 week until they could and there was no assurance they could meet even that schedule. They said there had been resignations including the manager thus the problem. I retrieved my vehicle and took it elsewhere. Avoid this location!!! read more

Someone hit my van and my insurance company sent me here for an estimate. It's a hassle that this kind of thing requires the victim to invest time while the person who hits me does nothing, so I was hoping it would be straight forward. Insurance approved the estimate, but when I go to schedule, Gerber tells me they won't do the work. They "think" there may have been some previous damage, but they won't document it. TLDR; Nobody ever answers the phone and you will not get communication after you drop your car off. I scheduled with this location because the insurance company handling my claim would not pay for repairs unless they were done at a shop in their repair network. Fine, whatever, I get it. I was able to get a really fast appointment with this Gerber location "due to a cancellation," which initially impressed me. I sent over my estimate from insurance, which included the parts that would need to be replaced, and scheduled a drop off for the following week. When I got to the shop, I was a little stunned at the lack of parking, or even of clear signage. I initially walked into a different shop further down the road! The drop-off process was fairly smooth. I noted that they only had a single person manning the entire front office, and she was expected to perform estimates and inspections on cars as they were being dropped off. The phone rang and rang while she was outside doing the inspection on my car, and after my own experience of trying to contact the shop, I know for a fact that the people who called in never reached anybody, or even got sent to voicemail. I have tried to call the shop multiple times over the past two weeks and nobody has ever picked up the phone. I got a text "update" on May 19 that said my car would go into repairs the following week, but according to the service status page they provide, work has not started yet. That text line does not even appear to be monitored, since responding hasn't gotten me a single message. They've had my car since May 10 for a repair that is estimated to only take 2 days! I'm really unhappy and frustrated. Every delay leads to me needing to extend my rental car, which has now cost me more than the cost of the repairs, and I'm paying out of pocket! Absolutely ridiculous! Even reaching out to the national customer service center has led to no communication whatsoever. Communication and service is really lackluster. No comment on the quality of the work yet. At this point, I'm just hoping my bumper is correctly attached when I come to pick up my car. EDIT: After posting this review, the shop did reach out to me and offered to cover my rental car expenses. They also explained the delay. Communication has been better. read more

TL;DR: PLEASE save your time, your money, and your insurance's money by finding a shop who actually has a parking lot and space for vehicles and not a cracked up strip of land off the main road. They're only focused on packing in as many vehicles as possible to maximize profits and couldn't care less about you, your vehicle, your time, or your money (unless you're giving it to them). Absolutely disgusting customer service. Everything was fine and dandy, even getting the original price estimate was pretty effortless but then I actually brought my vehicle in for service and the nightmare began. Full Story: Shana, one of their customer service agents, gave me a rough estimate when I took my car in for the original price estimate of 4 days to get the work done (fixing 2 small dents and a very small scrape). I dropped my vehicle off on Monday March 21, 2022. Fast forward to Friday March 25, 2022 and I've gotten zero updates from them on the status of my repair. I called them to see what was going on and ended up speaking to Shana again who gave me another rough estimate of Tuesday March 29, 2022 and even claimed she'd try to see if someone can come in over the weekend to speed up my repair. Fast forward again to Tuesday March 29, 2022. I called the shop midday and asked Shana for another update...this time, she gave me a rough estimate of Thursday March 31, 2022 which I told her is unacceptable since I told them before I even dropped my car off that I would be going on a trip beginning on April 1, 2022 and needed my car to prepare. Shana then claimed my car was almost finished and was "on the way" to the paint shop or to be painted or whatever. She then said she'd speak to her manager about speeding up the process to which I asked her if I could just speak with them myself. Lonnie, their manager or whoever he is, doesn't need to work in ANY customer facing role with his disgusting and patronizing attitude. He completely dismissed all of the time estimates I was given by Shana (and tried to gaslight me by repeating over and over again they don't give time estimates), and then stated somehow my car was completely "disassembled" when Shana had literally told me just minutes earlier the last thing they had left to do was paint it. I refuse to leave my car with this shady and weird business for weeks over such minimal damage so I told Lonnie to put my car back together (if they even actually have it disassembled) and forget about the repair (which he stated they haven't even started on yet, mind you, they've had my car for over a week at this point). Complete and total waste of my time, effort, and money (as I had to pay for a rental and will still have to deal with the time it'll take to start the process of getting my car repaired all over again). I'm honestly fearful that my vehicle will be in even worse physical condition than when I brought it in. read more

So good to have a neighborhood shop! John was pretty busy when I stopped by with my rental car having nicked the side mirror in a parking garage. The shop name always changes but I always come to this shop. John looked at the mirror and popped it into place right away. He told me that if I ordered the part and came back, he'd fix me up. I ordered the part from Chevy and brought the car back 2 days later. John fixed it while I was at the chiropractor! The rental agent will never know. It's perfect. If you expect anything resembling serviceable customer service, this is not a good fit. So many red flags from the start: the parking lot is barely accessible, crammed mainly with damaged vehicles of other customers. When I walked in to the dingy reception area there was no one there--just a TV blaring and a sign-in form sitting on the reception desk. The office space is really disgusting--covered with a layer of dust, papers and open food containers everywhere. After I was finally seen and pictures were taken for an estimate, the general manager casually let me know that my vehicle "wouldn't be touched until March" (it is early December). This was really surprising given that the person I spoke to on the phone 1) let me know to expect to drop off my vehicle for the estimate process, and 2) expect to wait 2-5 weeks for the repairs to be completed. This could have been a simple miscommunication and handled with empathy for a clearly stressful situation. I would have happily scheduled a repair for March and either left the vehicle overnight or just returned at the scheduled date to have the repairs done when they were able to take me. Instead, the way in which the general manager handled this was so rude that I was literally stunned. He implied that I was trying to "skip the line" (I was not), and also acted like I was being difficult when I asked where my car would be stored during that months-long wait. He acted like I was being a pain by asking if they provided rides home (I had checked the box on the form indicating that I would need one). He begrudingly said that they would figure out a ride for me. When I asked if my vehicle could just stay there until repairs could be made, and if it would be safe, he rolled his eyes and said that they have a gate "with a padlock". As the conversation became more confusing and tense, the general manager accused me of "talking in circles", and ultimately refused to even schedule the repairs since "they clearly weren't able to provide the customer service at a level that I would accept". To make matters even more awkward, neither of the other two employees who were literally feet away did anything at any point to intervene, clarify, or help in any way. They just pretended nothing was happening, and that their "boss" wasn't being a complete jerk to a customer in front of them. Totally wild--I've never been treated so poorly by someone with a public-facing role in my life. This is a location in an industrial area. It does not feel like a safe place to leave a vehicle for an extended period of time. They are also clearly over-capacity, and as such have very little incentive to make their customers feel welcomed or cared-for in any way. They behavior suggests that they don't really care if they have your business because they have enough already. I should have known that from the absolutely disgusting state of the front office, but I really wanted to believe that I was being superficial. I was not. If you appreciate patient and well-informed customer service (and appreciate a base-level of cleanliness in a reception area), WALK AWAY and spend your money elsewhere. The worst! Disrespectful, unprofessional, non-communicative. Terrible experience. I got an estimate in January and couldn't get an appointment for repair until March. I showed up in March and was told they'd let me know when it was done (wouldn't give me an estimate).....the employee seemed like someone's dad filling in. I rented a car and heard nothing for 5 days. I called. Long story short, my car was still sitting where they parked it and had not touched it or even talked about it. I had rented a car for nothing. I'm very upset with their lack of caring and lack of professionalism. They just grumbled about having to get my car out for me. I drove away fuming. STAY AWAY. Response to Jessica: We've talked about this issue multiple times with several Gerber staff in the office before I posted my review on Yelp. It didn't get anywhere, I always got the same message: "wear & tear." They refused to take responsibilities of the post repair complications. Gerber on Thorndyke wants to appear good in the public eye, until you work with them then you learn your lesson. I want to remind consumers again: -Please video tape your car to make sure all of the car functions still intact, working before you send it off for the repair -If possible, have a claim adjuster OR request Gerber assess your car baseline condition before the repair. -If Gerber declines your request about assessing the car baseline condition before repair, take your car to other repair shop, who is willing accommodate your request. read more

Honest, no BS kind of place. I was given the runaround by a couple other shops in the area so I stopped in here; these folks were quick, honest and to the point - I got my estimate within a quarter of an hour and was on with the rest of my day. They didn't even charge me for the estimate! Next time I need to have work done on my car, these guys are going to be my first stop. read more

EDIT: The man I was talking to / emailing with read this review and called and emailed me an apology. I do believe it's genuine and I appreciate him taking the time to follow up. He also said he had a talk with his tech staff about appropriate behavior and the importance of making sure customers feel comfortable when visiting the shop. I appreciate all of this and while I have selected another shop for my repairs, I would consider Gerber in the future. I am leaving my review below because it is what I experienced but I did update from 2 stars to 3 which is a-okay because they may do great work and I am willing to consider them for future work. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got an estimate here in-person. The estimate was fine but the follow up left a lot to be desired. The person I originally got the estimate from did not return my phone call but his colleague did. He proceeded to be rude and condescending to me in his email communication. I'm not sure why. Because I'm a woman? Not sure. I made it clear that I understood what he was telling me and I was not impressed with how he was talking to me and that my request was a reasonable one. He had all of the necessary information to answer my question but appeared to not want to do the legwork required to get the answer. He emailed me right back giving me the information I needed but no apology. Maybe they do good work but I was not about to reward rude behavior towards a potential paying customer with $2K+ worth of business. So, I was recently hit by a huge ass freight truck. I brought my car in here by recommendation of my insurance company, there was a lot of damage. When I initially called to schedule an 11am appointment for the next morning, the guy said, "Yup, just bring it on in". Well, I get a call on Saturday morning at 9am and the lady at their call center said my appointment wasn't in the books, and wasn't confirmed. After a few schedule switches, she gets me in at 10am. Ok cool, thanks lady! That worked well! :) I drop my car off and return a week later. After picking it up, and inspecting, everything looks great, functioned well, and was run through a car wash. After my car was broken into I had my car towed to Gerber. My ignition switch was broken, my trunk release was broken, and my windshield was broken. Once it was there they got the things fixed quickly and delivered the car back to me. When I got in my car and drove down the road I noticed a few things that were terribly wrong. 1) The steering wheel was on crooked. About 10 degrees to the right. 2) The turn signal didn't work. 3) The car no longer buzzed when I left my lights on when opening my door or did my dome light turn on. Which is ridiculous because one of their technicians drove the car to me like this to me. They presented it to me like everything was perfect. How is this even acceptable? I called them up and setup an appointment to get this fixed. They fixed the steering wheel but claimed that the buzzer broke on it's own and wouldn't be able to fix it because it was a "discontinued item." I did some research and showed them that the buzzer did work because there were other things that would set it off. Just not the door. I showed them that the dome light was also not working. They then claimed that the door switch was broken because it "was old." They didn't want to do any looking into it and just said "I bet it's just the switch" and said they'd order one and let me know when it's in to fix it. They never called me back. So I did my own research and found that the cable had been disconnected which was right near where they replaced my trunk release latch. So, somewhere in working in there they carelessly disconnected the door switch, but wouldn't own up to their mistake and lack of attention to detail. I later went to get my alignment checked and they still explained that it was completely off but fixed it properly. If you want to take your car to a technician that lacks detail and doesn't own up to their mistakes, go to Gerber, but I recommend looking elsewhere for a place that take ownership of their mistakes and takes a little extra time to make sure that they've done the job right in the first place. Not seeing me, a guy turned into my lane and hit me. This morning insurance company called to let me know that the guy was claiming that I cut him off. With indignometer off the scale at the blatant lying of this guy, I went into Gerber Collision. Fred came up to help me and after rubbing his hand over the scratches. "I think most of this could be rubbed off!" he offered. He went in and came out with some thinner and rubbing compound. Spent about 10 minutes on it and cleaned out most of the scratches. From a frame of mind of how to deal with lying a__holes in the world, Fred turned me around to think about how simple and wonderful it is to have honest and trustworthy people in the world. Several weeks ago, a large chunk of gravel flew out of a gravel truck leaving a gravel pit in Marysville, leaving a significant chip & crack in my windshield. After no progress in making a claim with the trucking company, my husband and I decided to stop with the back and forth and pay for the replacement ourselves. While we have insurance, the deductible was higher than out-of-pocket with Gerber, so it was a no-brainer. After receiving several quotes from different companies, Gerber was by far the best quote (and they made mention they were willing to beat any quote to get my business!). I made the appointment over the phone. It was tricky, at first, to get a quote because I have a Canadian-made Acura car but it is the equivalent to a Honda Civic... one company even told me I would have to go back to Canada to get the job done!Fortunately for me, Gerber was helpful and patient and saved me an inconvenient trip! Troy from Gerber called me at 9am, to say he'd be by at 10am for the mobile windshield replacement. He again called just before his arrival so I could show him where my car was at my place of work. He was prompt and arrived at exactly 10am, told me how long he estimated the job to take, and in fact it was done in that exact amount of time! I was really pleased with the workmanship that he did, ensuring to tell me, too, that the windshield needs to 'cure' for at least 40 minutes before the car would be ready to drive. I would highly recommend Gerber - not only for their excellent prices & quality, but for the service personnel who work out of their Thorndyke Ave franchise in Seattle. NOTES I expected to see a "Gerber" van but it was a "Glass America" vehicle that came to do the install - but they are one of the same. Also, I found a $20 off coupon on Gerber website for a glass install/repair if done without insurance... I called Gerber this morning and said I noticed the discount after I booked the appointment... No problem! They adjusted the price and quoted me the new price over the phone, which is exactly what I paid when Troy from Gerber processed my card for the service. read more

After being in a very minor accident, I took my car to Gerber, based on the insurance company recommendation. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and only had to wait for a few minutes before getting my car assessed. The Gerber employee was courteous and apologized for the wait (um, there was no wait!) but I appreciated the thought none the less. After a quick look at what I thought was a huge scratch on my bumper that needed body shop care, he informed me that he could fix it right then and there - no charge! I was delighted with joy to avoid having to bring my car back in for the actual repair once the insurance company approved the estimate. Thank you, Gerber for saving me a ton of time. Just got my fiat 500 back and Gerber did a fantastic job! I had originally gotten a quote from another shop which consisted of the estimator quickly looking at the car and "shooting" me a price quote. I then went next door to Gerber where they looked at the car thoroughly and gave me a written estimate that was a couple hundred dollars less. Couldn't be more satisfied with my decision. If I could, I would give them zero stars. Where to even start..... my car was in the shop for over 2 months. One of the technicians installed the wrong radiator into my car (thankfully I took it to Mercedes to get checked since my engine light came on TWICE, mind you, they made ME take it to Mercedes). There was supposed to be a piece that connects to my radiator but the radiator they installed wasn't equipped with said piece. Instead of putting in the correct radiator they ZIP TIED the piece to my radiator. ZIP TIED?!?!?! On top of that, when I got my NEW radiator at Mercedes, they made my insurance pay for it! Not sure why MY insurance had to pay for their mistake. DO NOT GO HERE, unless you want zip ties under the hood of your car holding things together. After posting the above on Google...the manager emailed me asking me to remove my post and/or change it. Not. Happening. Literally the worst! read more

I typically never rate or vent out about a business, but today has definitely has triggered me. I took in my vehicle to get an estimate over a week ago. When I showed up they made me sign a document stating that they were going to need to take my car apart to get a proper estimate. Which I though was standard procedure. I literally called them 3 times during the whole week leading up to a week of calls. Jason never got back and stated he never received the memos, the general manger Angel was also totally useless. They essential starting the repairs and ordering parts without me know this, I wanted to know what was going to be replaced. After 1 week I was able to get the breakdown sheet which stated that most of the parts we going to be just mended back together such as bumper, door, fender, quarter panel, and that's when I totally blew it. I completely got angered by the Half ass work that was going to be done. Fast forward to today and I payed them out of pocket $4700 and will be taking my car back in pieces. What started as a simple estimate turned into $4700 out of pocket and over a week of headaches on my end. I would not recommend this shop to anyone that has a special car to them. I feel like if something has to be done right get it done the first time and not have ti be coming back in the future to the same issue read more

I had a very good experience with Gerber. I visited them for an estimate after a minor fender bender. Their estimator advised me that the damage was just cosmetic and he fixed it in just a few minutes. Then cleaned up the car, wrote the report for the insurance company, and sent me on my way for FREE! This never happens! He could've charged me, but he didn't. I appreciated their honesty and willingness to help me out. This tells me they are a serious business that relies on real work and honest values. read more

Fred was such a great guy to work with. Gave me a detailed quote on what would be done, and explained anything that didn't make sense to me. My car was in the shop for 15 days after getting hit in the side by a bus, and Fred called me every Tuesday and Thursday to keep me updated. Other than the asshole who just door dinged me a few days after I got it back, you would never know there was damage to that side of the car. They also fixed my trunk from not closing firmly, which wasn't part of the accident, but they had to remove the trunk lid anyhow. To my surprise, they also pulled out some damage to the other side of the vehicle from a previous T-Bone accident that has yet to be repaired. Overall, the customer service is exceptional, the work is wonderful, and my insurance even gave me $100 off for using them. read more

This is my second time getting my car repaired here and both times my expectations were blown out of the water. Being a female in my late 20s a lot of places (especially automotive) try to take advantage of me like I'm just a ditzy blonde girl who doesnt understand what they are talking about. Not here! Do not use them! They did a repair on our front bumper after we hit an animal. This was a 2021 Honda CR-V. They had to replace the bumper. About a month later one of the parking sensors popped out of the hole and back into the bumper. I took it over to them since they made the original repair. They pulled it into their shop to see if they could pop it back in. They mentioned that there were scratches on the bumper and that someone hitting it likely caused the sensor to fall off. I could kind of believe that might happen but it does seem odd that something that only put a couple of small scratches on the bumper would pop that sensor off. According to their tech the bumper would have to come off and they told me to bring it in and they would take care of it for free. I made it a point to ask them what the cost was going to be. They assured me it would be free but if I felt the need to pay something I could. We scheduled an appointment for the following week. We called the night before the appointment to confirm with them that we would be dropping it off that evening for the next day. They then told us they wouldn't be doing it for free and we needed to file a claim with our insurance. They weren't even going to let us know that they weren't going to do it after they said they would. No courtesy call or anything. They were just going to let us drop it off, and then what... I'm not looking for something for nothing. If they needed to charge me for putting the sensor back in then give me a price. Don't renege on your word. In business your word and reputation is all you have. In one fell swoop, they managed to damage both today. It could have been handled so much differently if they really couldn't do it for free as they said but they chose this course. Over a year ago we had work done with them on my sons car after it had been hit. They did an amazing job at that point but shortly after that the two people we were working with closely there left. After that their customer services has gone to crap. I don't know if they changed owners in that time or what but they went from good to bad in a fairly short time. We will never be taking our vehicles back there again. This was the Gig Harbor, WA location BTW. read more

These guys are outstanding. I've now been a customer twice and both times they blew me out of the water with amazing work and customer service. The first time they did quick work, as my car makes me money it's was paramount they worked quickly. They worked with my insurance seamlessly without a hitch. So when the same car got hit again (Seattle drivers....) I knew exactly where to have them take it. In the middle of a pandemic this team got my car repaired, handled the extra repairs (AWD car needed both sides not just the damaged side) with ease. I had to leave it with them for a bit after it was finished due to Covid and never once did they give me any hassle. Wonderful customer service. Also had a follow up issue after, something they wouldn't have initially seen from the accident but they contacted insurance again, took care of it and got my car running better today then she has in the 3 years ive owned her. Their repair work was outstanding - it was done flawlessly and super fast.
