I've used J&J several times, always with great results; Fast estimates and fast job completion, excellent quality of work, and fair prices with no surprises. The last work I had done was estimated to cost $4,000 at Caliber Collision. J&J did the work for about $1,500, perfectly. I noticed in reading the other reviews that a few people thought Mimi, the office manager, was curt. I have had a number of interactions with her on the phone and in person, and found the opposite to be true. She seems to be a very nice, genuine person. I can only imagine that a customer with an aggressive or condescending attitude might have been met with a corrective response from Mimi. At least I hope she would. J&J is complete TRASH. 2007 Camry front end minor collision they replaced the bumper in the headlights. The headlights were never right and pointed completely straight down and were invisible and worthless. I went back to them three times and on the third time they accuse me of changing out the bulbs because "they would've never put these bulbs in" but this is what I got from them, and they could not produce the headlights that they took out after the collision, but they billed the other person's insurance for a complete new headlight set and I just replaced them for under $200 from Amazon and they are perfect. This place is sketchy and unreliable and I highly do not recommend. read more

Looking for a collision repair shop is never fun. In my several years living in the Ballard area, I had never needed one until someone backed into my car in a parking lot. Thankfully, the other driver's insurance was fully covering the repairs and they sent me a list of recommended shops in the area. After looking into several, I chose J&J. J&J made the process mostly painless, and Mimi at the front desk was very helpful. She even made arrangements with the local Enterprise for a car rental which was covered under the claim. There were just a few minor scratches to my back bumper, but the quote came back at $1,200+. I was shocked at the price considering the damage was so minor, but since I wasn't the one paying, I went with it. If I needed repair services in the future, I may look around and get some quotes elsewhere just to compare. Chuck also recommended that I personally pay for an additional hour of labor for them to smooth out my entire back bumper (insurance only covered the impact site), as I've had my car for about 9 years and there were definitely quite a few nicks and scratches that have accumulated over the years. I'm glad I paid the little extra, as my bumper now looks great! They even give you small bottles of the extra custom made paint to take home in case you get any nicks in the future. They were also able to finish my car a full day earlier than expected. Overall, I'd recommend J&J! read more

Yesterday, after my wife was in a serious auto accident caused by another driver, our insurance company verified that they did business with J@J and told us we could have the undrivable vehicle towed there. However, when we had the car towed there and before we could even explain what was going on, we were greeted by the lady in the office there with a very angry tirade about how they were full up and had no room for any more customers. Although our insurance company should have done due diligence and first contacted J@J to see if they had room for us before having us tow the car there, the J@J employee's outburst was extremely ugly and unprofessional. Don't worry, if we ever need towing again, we will avoid J@J like the plague!!! This lady needs to take anger-management training. read more

"J and J was a referral by the insurance company.of the guy who hit me. I usually use Aki's. in Ballard. Mimi seemed rushed and I felt I was bothering her with my questions. It took 2 or 3 days longer than originally estimated, with no explanation, just emails pushing back the date, but only as responses to my emails. I didn't even get a call when my car was done! When I did go to pick up my car Mimi's only interest was in getting my signature, no actual explanation of what had been done to the car. I will definitely choose my own repair shop from now on, and it won't be J&J collision. read more

1. My insurance did NOT require anything, but only provided an estimate for the parts and labor. 2. J&J was going to let me walk out with a part that obviously did NOT FIT and a color that was 8-10 shades darker (which the manager chuck, agreed with my adjuster). It wasn't until I raised the issue and contacted my insurance to request J&J to submit an approval for a fitting part and more time to redo the paint job. J&J did NOT express any concerns or many any attempt to fix this issue and just let me leave with the poor service given. 3. And I most definitely indicated to the manager that I was still dissatisfied, may not be to the fit with the new bumper, but most definitely with the paint job. 4. I am aware that you cannot get to 100% match on the color, but it was definitely still a poor job and still several shades darker. No accountability of their poor service to me, but instead, say anything to save whatever reputation they have left. No apologies given. What really made this a huge deal to me, is that no phone call to either myself or my insurance regarding the fit of the bumper was NOT made prior to resolve (I even asked the manager, and just shrugged with no words. REALLY?!?). But only a phone call to myself, stating my car is ready to be picked up, KNOWING that the part did not fit. The issue wouldn't have been fixed and just allow me to leave if I didn't raise the concern. read more

My car's still at the shop, but that's not J&J Collision's fault, I promise. The backstory: my boyfriend, car, and a parking garage had an argument. The pole in said parking garage won. Oops. Two weeks later, we begrudgingly took the poor Civic into J&J Collision on a recommendation made by the Yelper-high-rated Superior Auto Service (http://www.yelp.com/biz/LSAkn-RoE1h78i0XE8zoOg). Our estimate hurt, but was reasonable, and we put down a "parts deposit" for customer-pay bodywork. Peggy (reception) has kept me in the loop the entire time, and called when there were any surprises or other issues. Because my headlights are after market, we had to order them from the manufacturer...and found out it would take a week to get them. Even though J&J's parking lot is small and they were full up, they had no problem keeping the car there until the headlights came in (even though that meant that every morning they had to pull the car out of the shop, and drive it back in at night so it wouldn't get stolen). Sadly, my headlights aren't there yet, but Peggy is keeping me informed. Another welcome surprise: my washer fluid wasn't working, and I was concerned there might be some engine damage. After I'd already paid the balance for the work (everything's in but those damn headlights) Peggy called to explain that there had been some cross-communication, and my washer's pump had gone out. They'd already replaced it, and the labor wasn't on my original bill...so she gave it to me for free! It was only an extra fifty or so dollars, but it was a pleasant surprise. All in all, this place does fast work with great communication, and is willing to work with their customers' needs, all while keeping their costs at or below their estimate. The only reason they don't get five stars is because I don't have the car back...yet! (I'll add to this review once I do.) **EDIT: My car is back, clean and shiny. Everything looked fine until we saw it in bright natural light, where we noticed a SLIGHT difference in paint color. I called J&J, nervous...and Peggy said "No problem! Bring it back in and we'll fix it." (Their work is guaranteed for the life of the vehicle.) I'm upgrading J&J to five stars for amazing customer service and an open-door, helpful attitude...and because in the end, the pole won the battle, but I won the war! read more

So I am not the most "alert" driver... I backed into a guy's tail light two weeks ago and I needed a place to get it repaired. Thankfully the tail light owner was nice and did not cause too big a fuss about the accident. We checked out a few other body shops near Aurora but they were charging around a grand for the work with almost a full day of labor. J & J collision quoted the damage accurately, even pointing out where there was prior damage to the vehicle. The price quote was reasonable and the turnaround time was convenient. I've used J & J twice in the past three years, both time for repairs after ugly fender-benders. They've made honest, accurate assessments of the costs to repair the damage, and offered me some choices for repair solutions. Both times the work was done exactly as promised (and a little bit sooner) and was of excellent quality. In one instance, they were able to offer used parts that saved me significantly on the repair. The prices at J & J were similar to estimates I got from another local shop, but I chose them because of their willingness to explain the options and because their office is well-organized and good at communications. The woman at the counter was rude and said I had to make an appointment and that no, that is not what the website says. J and J was recommended by several on line sources so I thought I'd give them a try. I needed some minor body work and wanted several panels repainted due to rock chips, parking dings, etc. customer service was very good and met my schedule. The price was high for the quality of work done. The body work was ok, but I continue to find flaws in the paint job due to poor prep and sanding. I don't think I'd return to J and J if I need a good paint job. read more

I had some rust spots on my rear quarter panels and a few spots around my front windshield. I took it to J & J as they had previously replaced my bumper when I was rear ended and I was pretty happy with their work. When looking over my car for quotes, Chuck said all the panels needed to be fully painted as he didn't want to take shortcuts. This made the repair more expensive but figured it was better to get it done right. They said it would take 5 days but then called stating they needed more time. While this was inconvenient, I was fine with it, wanting them to take their time and do a quality job. Two full weeks later, I get it back and can not believe how terrible a job they did. The first thing I noticed was the head liner was torn and wrinkled. I noticed this while still at the shop and Chuck agreed it was bad and said he would order a new one. However, once I got home I noticed a ton of other issues. *Both the windows on my rear quarter panels had ripped and torn window tint *A plastic trim cover part was missing off the inside of my trunk *Huge tear in the seal on my trunk *The passenger side door trim had a big gap in it *The panels they had painted were full of scratches, paint bubbles and had terrible orange peel *The rust spot on the rear quarter panel was still visible underneath the paint which was the reason I took my car in, to have that taken care of *The trim on the rear wheel arch was falling off * They needed to pull the window when painting the roof and I'm pretty sure when they replaced it they did not seat it correctly as it was now making horrible wind noise at highway speeds I don't even understand how this many mistakes could be made. I talked to Chuck about all these issues and he never once apologized or seemed shocked. He instead stated they should have never taken on the project as they normally don't do rust repair. However, since almost all the problems I pointed out had nothing to do with that, it seemed like a pretty terrible excuse. I asked for them to pay for another shop to redo the work considering they didn't fix what they were supposed to and actually made things worse with the additional damage to my car. Chuck refused. I then asked for a full refund for the work, willing to take a loss on the stuff that they wrecked and again, Chuck refused. He offered me a few hundred dollars as a refund which to me was insulting it wasn't even enough to fix the damage they had caused. Chuck did agree to redo the repair work. I did not want to do this considering the complete lack of quality but felt I had no other option since he was unwilling to give a refund. So I dropped my car off for another week for them to try again. Getting it back, most of the issues I originally pointed out were fixed and new parts purchased but now I am seeing new problems. Both rear windows had to be replaced since all the rubber trim and tint was wrecked. But even after getting all new windows there are still tears, though smaller, in the new window trims. There are also tons of small pry marks in the paint around the windows. When I mentioned the blemishes to Chuck, he just kind of shrugged it off. I also noticed there was an interior trim piece that didn't seem to be installed correctly as it wasn't lining up right. Chuck also disregarded my concerns on this and said it was fine. After driving away, the trim piece created such a terrible rattle, I had to remove and reinstall the trim properly to fix it. The most ridiculous issue though was after a week or so of driving, the bolt that holds the top of the seat belt into the frame of the car fell out. This is just straight up dangerous. If I had gotten into an accident before realizing this issue, I could have been seriously injured. Considering they knew how dissatisfied I was initially, I assumed they would have taken extra care and time to make sure there wouldn't be any issues this second time around, but they obviously did not. If you care at all about the work being done properly on your car, do not take your car here. I am not even going to bother taking it back to fix the new issues as I don't want them touching my car anymore. I am beyond nervous with the work that I can't see. They forgot to tighten the bolt down on my seat belt which is a huge safety concern, what else did they forget to do? Are the factory roof racks on my car installed correctly or are those just going to fall off too? The fact that the visible work even after being redone still has problems gives me serious concerns. Honestly, at this point I feel like I should get a refund for the work done as its still not great and leads me to believe the underlying repairs are equally bad, if not, worse. However, Chuck already made it clear that he is not willing to do that. I feel like I spent several grand to have my car in worse condition and am just waiting for the next problem related to their "repair" work to pop up. read more

I went in and asked for an estimate and was told by the lady at the front desk that they don't do estimates after 4. I said, okay, I'll come back, but maybe you should put that on your website. She said "we can't put everything on our website"... To which I responded "but it literally says drive up appointments till 5:30 on your website". And then she told me I was being "too literal". ....But it literally says that on their website! To be honest, before that exchange I was planning to come back, as they have many good reviews. But they wasted my time and on top of it, were incredibly rude. NOT impressed. Will be finding somewhere else. Pro tip: next time, just say "sorry for the mis-understanding". read more

Thankfully, after speaking with my insurance agent and saying I'd go with their recommendation of J&J, I didn't have to do a thing. Mimi gave me a call within 15 minutes and took it from there. Four hours later and my car was drivable again, blessedly in time for the Labor Day weekend. I returned it to the shop the following Wednesday for the remaining work and picked it up Thursday afternoon - a full day earlier than expected! Honest and efficient. I had my car worked on about a year and a half ago and unfortunately the paint on the bumper was chipping. When I called thinking it would not be under warranty, they told me to bring it in that day. They had the bumper repainted in 2 days and washed the car and vacuumed the interior. I probably won't be able to assess the quality of their body and paint. It's difficult to get past the rude counter staff (Mimi). I let my service dog out of my car on leash while waiting for the estimate. Mimi says "Don't bring that dog in here" when I wanted to come in the office and sit down. I said "It's my service dog". She said "I DON'T CARE". I have a hard time supporting anti-service dog businesses. I'm a Veteran and wore a US ARMY hat...though that didn't play a role. Had a good experience at J&J. They were on time and on budget and the car looked new after I backed into something. The reason for 4 stars is because I also wanted to get my windows fixed (my window would often get stuck and wouldn't open) and the guy I was explaining the issue to jumped to conclusions on what the issue was (e.g. Must be a bad motor) vs. checking the issue in the car. It wasn't until I asked him to go to the car to see the issue that he realized it was an issue with the rubber seal around the window, which is a much cheaper repair. So just make sure to do a sense check and have them go see the issue at your car before committing to fix something. I don't feel like he was upselling me, but rather jumping to conclusions. read more

I took my car here for two separate car collisions. I went to a few different body shops in Ballard, and J&J was by for the most quick and efficient when it came to actually estimating the car. And also J&J was the least costly when it came to parts and labor. They were very organized and clear when it came to communicating the costs and timeline associated with fixing my car. My wife had her car fixed here last week. The woman working the front is a real Jem very nice as well as the other man handling our car. There was a scratch that was caused by a worker that they were happy to fix as they had not spotted it . Their policy is for employees to report things like this and if they do not, and hide something they can be fired. They were not happy with the employee that did not report this. They showed their true character with this incident that they are committed to taking care of us not just a profit. Thanks guys we will be back if we get in another accident. read more

I am a huge fan! I had admired the very very cool streamlined architecture, but when a car hit me in the rear door at an uncontrolled intersection, I called my friend Lizzie who knows EVERYTHING and SHE said, "NO! Don't take it to ______, have it towed to J&J!". I am an insurance claims virgin and REALLY tested Mimi's patience I am sure. Though they are not allowed to call the agents directly, she kept on my ass to make sure they followed up, yet in a professional yet motherly way. I think I smelled warm cookies through the phone, but baked by a warrior! And btw, wow, what an education re insurance - she/they was/were just great! I wuv them. Chuck explained things very carefully, not scolding me for being a dum-dum for letting this go so long as I feared ; ). They were very warm and the work was perfect and at a fair price.
