Not gonna lie, I'm a little pissed bc I reserved yesterday for a car for pickup this morning at 9:00am. I couldn't make it that early due to family stuff, so I called them to let them know I was still coming to pickup today, albeit a lot later than anticipated. I didnt make it down until 4:45, then got up to the 6th floor rental office by 4:50pm. Nobody in sight. I guess they closed 10-15 min earlier than their sign said? Note: google maps and other such apps all say they're open until 5:30pm (which is why I wasn't worried in the lift ride over here) but they actually claim to close at 5:00pm. But, don't be fooled by that, like I did. They obviously close sometime between 4pm and 5pm? :/ read more

We reserved a car, but that didn't mean anything, because there were no cars available at the time of pick-up. You had to wait an indefinite amount of time to see if maybe someone will return the car before the place closes, and the queue is like 20 people long. The woman working the booth was a patient gem, but Hertz is an inexcusable excuse for a car rental company. Never rent from here unless you wish for your trip plans to be derailed before they even begin. Luckily we live in the area, so we could just go home, but folks were waiting with ALL their luggage in tow and were SOL! What a horrible system. read more

I rent from Hertz here and there for both work and personal travel. Unfortunately this was the worst experience I've had at any Hertz location. I arrived at 9:55 AM and didn't receive my car until 11:25 AM. The location was also difficult to find due to almost nonexistent signage -- just a single 8x11" paper directing customers on the Grand Hyatt entrances. The biggest issue was claimed by the staff to be leadership and operations. They were clearly short on cars, but there didn't appear to be any organization or urgency to improve the situation. The staff overall came across as indifferent, morale seemed low, and customer service suffered because of it. Even the environment among customers became tense and rude due to the long wait and confusion. What's especially frustrating is that having Hertz Gold status meant absolutely nothing here. There was just one line for everyone, so there was no benefit or efficiency despite being a loyal customer. The one star goes to the bright side: the vehicles were clean and washed, and I did receive a complimentary upgrade to a luxury SUV, which I appreciated. That said, one upgrade doesn't outweigh a nearly 90-minute wait, poor communication, and a chaotic experience overall. I would strongly recommend avoiding this location unless major operational improvements are made. read more

Piling on with, you guessed it, another negative review for Hertz HLE on 8th Avenue. They should just call it a day and close this location. I've rented here many times over the years and it just seems to get worse. Now they require a ridiculous amount of photos of the vehicle before leaving but place the onus on the customer to flag down a member of their geek squad to take said photos. I should've just left. No rapid checkout for President's Circle members. Have to present a credit card just like everyone else. Was assured that gate would open automatically upon leaving the garage. Surprise, surprise that did not happen either. Had to flag down a garage attendant and plead my case by waving my rental contract. Absolute rubbish! read more

This was a really unpleasant rental car experience. We'd rented a car and confirmed online and got to this location a little early to find there were no cars available and a long line of about 20 folks who also had rented cars but weren't going to be receiving them. This derailed our plans for the next week as there weren't other locations nearby or easy transit to a satellite location, and the staff genuinely didn't even apologize or acknowledge the error on their part, instead acting flustered and rude. The Manager was confrontational to several folks who were reasonably asking about what to do since many were stranded now bcs of the Hertz team's error. I've never seen a Manager act that aggressive or openly lose their cool in front of customers. It was uncomfortable, unprofessional and enough to make us never rent from any Hertz location again. read more

This is the most chaotic and unorganized setup I've ever experienced. We are waiting with people who have been waiting 2.5hrs and counting. Avoid at all costs!! read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION I rented a car from them once and there were no cars available. I was told it would be a "30 minute wait" and then proceeded to wait 2.5 hours. I thought maybe it was because of the World Cup. I came back today because I had a big thing I needed a vehicle for. Also there are no major events going on right now in Seattle and yet again, there was a lady in front of me telling the woman at the window "I was told it would be 30 minutes but I've been waiting an hour and a half". When I got up to the window I was told I would be put on a wait list and I said "Last time I waited 2.5 hours for a car here. I do not have time to do that today". A RESERVATION, meaning a booking made in advance to SAVE A SPOT, means absolutely nothing to this company. Also I asked to cancel and the lady said "You're free to go". So I did and I just found I'm being charged a "No show fee" of $42. So I'm being charged because they didn't have a car and I left. read more

Waited 3 hours for a car a made a reservation for a month in advance. Utter incompetence and dismissive attitude by the staf (except Melissa who was sympathetic). read more

Prepare to wait over an hour in line to get your vehicle. I don't know what kind of system they have, but they need to update it. Completely unorganized. The only bright spot is the kind man who takes pictures of the cars and bids you farewell. He offered us cold water which was awesome. But seriously, what the heck is going on lol read more

Got here right at open and waited 40 minutes to get rental. Terrible customer service

Made a reservation through Hertz website. The morning of the reservation they called to say they don't have any cars available until dinner time. I asked them to cancel the reservation and was able to get a car through Enterprise. Hertz did not cancel the reservation so it charged me as a no show. I have called and emailed so many times and cannot get a refund. Do not rent from Hertz or any of their partner companies. read more

We had to wait 90 minutes for our car consequently, we missed our ferry. We are in our eighties and there was only one chair for the many people waiting and we were told that they couldn't bring more chairs because "there were a garage". What an awful way to start a vacation. read more

Terribly unpredictable. Hertz has become one of the worst rental agencies and this is the worst location I've ever used. Understaffed, not enough cars. Workers are often stressed under the weight of the inept corporate incompetence. So much can go wrong renting here (everything you can imagine, really) and you may wind up leaving without any vehicle whatsoever. Plus, Hertz loyalty program is an utter joke. They need to fire Hertz CEO Gil West and try harder to find actual leadership. And stop letting assholes AKA "activist investors" run *anything*. Like Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) and those activist investors, The Hertz Corp is inept. Just painful. read more

DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM HERE FOR YOUR SAKE!! pick up was 9am. We arrive 9am. We stand in line for an HOUR. Fine. We get up to window and say our reservation and she tells us they have not cars left...?? I laugh because I made a RESERVATION. Which means the car is reserved for me. And she explains that don't mean nothing. They are out of cars for the day and won't be able to give us one. PREPAID. So what does a reservation mean then? whether you're a gold member or not they don't care. Truly disgusting. Theres still a huge line behind me and I mention to let everyone know so they don't wait for a 1+ hour to find out there's no car and she says no. So everyone else behind me waited for minimum an hour as well. I don't fault the employees but this company is sick in the head. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE THIS WAS LITERALLY THE WORST read more

Waited an hour after we booked just to be told they were out of all cars not fun not

waiting hours for a car. In a parking garage standing on concrete. never never never rent from here.

Took over three hours to get a rental car the staff was rude and mean and did not offer any sort of accommodation or compensation

I was going to use Hertz while my car was being repaired. For 3 days I tried to reach them. Their phone would ring twice then go to a business signal. I set up a pick-up on line, then they no showed. I waited 1.5 hours and still unable to reach them, I changed to Enterprise and they brought a car within 15 minutes. read more

I would leave zero stars if I could. The people who were there working were obviously doing their best, but the whole experience was the worst I have ever had with a rental place downtown. First off, my pickup time was 8:30a. I didn't leave the parking lot until 10a which made me late for an appointment. I was offered no explanation as to why I had to wait. The young man working the desk tried to get me out earlier by offering a complimentary upgrade, but was told by his manager to continue to make me wait. When I finally got the car, it smelled bad, there was garbage shoved under the passenger seat, and various personal effects left behind by previous drivers. I believe I was overcharged. I was quoted a certain amount at the pick-up counter for my rental. The invoice and charges I received were significantly higher. As of this review, I have been offered no explanation as to why, despite making multiple efforts to reach out. At drop off, I was made to wait until someone was able to physically check the car in. I have never had to wait for this with other rental locations. This, in turn, made me late for work. The follow-up I received from Hertz was essentially, 'sounds like a bummer, better luck next time you rent from us.' As if I would ever rent from Hertz again. Bottom line there are much better rental car options all throughout downtown. Avoid Hertz at all costs. read more

Terrible hours and not very nice staff. The only person that was nice was the person checking out the car at the end. No after hours drop off, don't even think about coming after 4:30 to drop off. Only good if you need to drop off here. Saw people waiting in line and looked like a nightmare. 2 stars for nice man and the fact that it's available downtown read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. I got there for a noon reservation, and the address listed for pickup is wrong; the actual pickup is in a garage. Once I got there, they made me wait 30 minutes before even telling me they didn't have a car ready and made me wait another 30 minutes while they cleaned a car. The worst part is when I told them that the delay was unacceptable, the woman falsely claimed I was yelling at her and threatened to cancel my reservation, which seemed to be a transparent attempt to get out of completing a reservation they were not prepared to fulfill. This office is totally dysfunctional. Avoid at all costs and go to the airport instead. In the hour I was there I watched them send others to the airport or tell them that their car wasn't ready or available at all. Absolutely incompetent office. read more

Horrible service! We reserved a car a week ago. Went to pick it up today and was told they had no cars left and basically given a "too bad so sad" attitude. No resolution, no resolution, no professionalism. STAY FAR AWAY FROM HERTZ. Book through any other site for any peace of mind. read more

We have been in line to pickup our car for 1 and 1/2 hours and the attendant has only proceeded 4 couples and yes we have a reservation.

this is a location that does not align reservations times with vehicles- be prepared to wait 45 minutes to 2 hours for your vehicle.

We rented a car from this location. Process was smooth, car was great. But have to give a special mention to Melissa, Abu and Jared, who went above and beyond to reunite my son with a small treasure he left in the car. The store was closed when we arrived, but they were still inside and managed to locate the car and the keys (thankfully it hadn't been turned over yet), and get it back to us. Cannot say enough nice things about these wonderful humans who cared enough to reunite a 7 year old boy with a tiny heart shaped rock. We will always use Hertz from now on! read more

On October 4, 2025, I made a vehicle reservation through Expedia for a Hertz rental and paid $199.26 USD via my debit card. Upon arrival at the location in Fort Lauderdale an hour late due to traffic, I was informed that the vehicle had already been rented and that they could not honor my reservation from Expedia. As a result, I was required to pay again directly to Hertz using my Chase debit card, and Hertz has already withdrawn $195.69 from my account. I contacted Expedia, who advised me to contact Hertz Rental Car to inquire about why my reservation was not honored despite my payment, and noted that Expedia still holds my funds since my reservation was not accepted. I request a full refund from Expedia for the reservation, as they currently have my payment. Hertz and Expedia I got news for you never ever ever again will do business with you. read more

Worst customer service, had my trip planned a reservation made. They come to find out didn't have any vehicles so they wanted my to upgrade and pay more for a Benz. I said no thank you and cancelled. I rented a car from the place, not happy with the experience. The car pulled a lot to one side, and made noises on the attempt to stop. I would assume this is a rotor or brake pad problem. Worst reps and give zero crap about their customers. Prepare to get ignored esp gold rewards members.

Checkout process (with reservations!) took over 25 minutes and multiple people. They put us in lower level vehicle. Not friendly.

How can returning your car on time and early turn what would be $10 worth of parking into $85? I can tell you. This place is a full scam. They were closed and I had to leave because of a fire. No place to drop it off. No place to return the keys. They charge me $85 for less than one hour of parking at their garage to safely exit the building and come back 2 hours later. The car only cost $35 for the day............ apparently I could've parked at any other parking lot but if I drove back into this one, they're charging you a $45 fee to park there on top of whatever your hourly is. This is insane full scam. I literally have the fire report right here. read more

customer service rep wants to have unnecessary conversations with customers like he doesn't see the long line of people waiting to pick up keys. everyone here is frustrated and rightfully so. this seems to be a trend here so they need to get it together. perhaps have their office open since there's an employee sitting in there on the computer anyways. read more

I had to return my car one day early due to an unforeseen change of plans. I arrived 20 minutes after they closed and the sign clearly stated that I would have to wait until the following morning to return my vehicle. Since I wouldn't be able to wait and as I was on the phone with Hertz, Angie who had just walked around the corner, saw my frantic state with the keys in my hand and even though she could have kept walking since she was clocked out and I wouldn't have been the wiser. She re-opened shop and was able to get my rental returned. This is a perfect example of someone going out of their way to help another person in need. This goes above customer service, this is an example of good people helping out someone in need. As a gold member of Hertz I've been to many hertz locations, I highly recommend this Hertz location. 5/5. Thanks Angie! read more

This 8th Avenue HLE location has a lot of procedural challenges that makes the rental process very drawn out and painful. Once the car was rented, it was very good process to take the vehicle and leave. And the return process was very easy as well. As a President's Circle member, it still took me 50 minutes to rent my car. On a Saturday, the sales office on the first floor was closed and we were all directed to the Gold booth on the 4th Floor. For the first 20 minutes while I was waiting in line, two associates just sat in back of the booth, playing on their phone. After that, they started moving cars, so they weren't counter people to expedite the long line of customers. There were still about 2 or 3 more associates who didn't ensure both counters were used to service customers. After about 40 minutes, an associate came out and asked Gold members to queue into the 2nd counter. Once that happened, things went smoothly and we were soon on our way. I've used this Hertz Local Edition before with good results. As it's the closest to my sister's place, I'll try and use it again. Repeat with reservations. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. Whatever you book online, good luck if you can get a car because they are not going to let you know that they don't have a car for you until you show up. My reservation was prepaid and app checked in a day early. Their way to resolve is asking me to call Hertz hotline to cancel my own reservation. They offered literally no help. Eventually I called the Hertz reservation line for 45min to get me a car from the airport, costing $100 more on a cheaper car. Here are the quotes from the employees and the manager: "It's not our fault" "There is nothing I can do" Just avoid this place for a peace of mind. read more
