Wow! This place is amazing & very dangerous for my finances!! The vinyl selection alone is really great, and they have so much other cool stuff, books comics games tons of fandom related goodies. Great customer service for my experience, I can't say anything about selling goods here but usually its safe to assume that once you start amassing lots of books and media it's better to resell on ebay or just hold on to your stuff and realize money spent is gone for good. This location has never been the closest to me, so I haven't gone prior to this weekend but we figured why not make a little drive and check it out. Out of all the Zia locations that I've checked out recently, their metal selection reigns supreme (some of it is tucked away in the normal rock/pop section though). I found quite a few hardcore, metal, and metalcore records that I've been looking for for forever here. A lot of older "I never thought I'd see this in the wild" demos, EP's, and records from some not-so-big artists too. Super rad. Definitely a different selection (and I assume client base) than the Tempe location - not that either is bad, but it was an awesome surprise to find some totally new things that I hadn't seen before. Price points were also slightly less expensive than other locations and for what everyone is selling online. Grabbed a few records that were in my Discogs cart for a couple months from here, supported a local shop, and saved a few bucks in the process. read more

Zia records used to be a company that I loved. I frequently visited all of the local Zia Records locations, but this is the one I went to most often. This specific location used to be amazing 5-10 years ago, prices were very fair, things were organized much better, if a product had an issue or was missing something it was made apparent, customer service used to be better, trades used to not take hours for something any "expert" pricing things could likely do in a matter of minutes, accuracy was another strong point previously. The comic section is a joke, there are little to no key issues, and what they do have that's good is usually higher than Ebay asking prices and sold listings, they usually price keys as high grade even if they're clearly not. Don't trade comics in there, they seem to think it's okay to payout 10 cents a book unless said book is worth a lot of money (10 cents is criminal when most comics average about 4 bucks). Another reason I can advise to avoid the comics is the fact that they put those electronic tags on the backing board BETWEEN THE BOARD AND THE COMIC which causes indents on the back cover that can potentially break color, any comic "expert" would've just slapped it on the back of the backing board and not risked damaging a book. Ontop of that for over an entire year, they got so lazy with the comic section that they just gave up on organizing it and said to hell with it until about a month or two ago. Action figures there are super hit or miss, you can find some good deals if you really dig through all of them sometimes; At other points, you realize there's a ton of inconsistency in not only the pricing but seemingly the knowledge on the products they sell. It's not uncommon to find figures priced higher than Ebay, priced like new when incomplete or in poor condition, products with blatant issues but no disclosure of said issues, Action figures with the wrong accessories, or figures outright labeled incorrectly. HIRE MORE QUALIFIED EXPERTS. Wouldn't recommend selling or trading figures here at all, you're better off just listing it somewhere and trying to sell it yourself. It'll save you unnecessarily long waits, lowball offers, a greedy company cherrypicking through your stuff that you just want to get rid of, and in a lot of cases with figures, you could make the effort to bring in complete figures and have all the accessories, just for once again, the "experts" to then fail to realize it's complete and you have to now wait longer for them to adjust the price. The only upside to trading and reason I ever did was the fact that you accrue points on trade ins to get items 50% off, I used that to my advantage. If you cash out, you lose points based on the amount you cashed out. If you still want to utilize the points and not waste them, use all of your points making a purchase so they can't revoke them from you when you cash out. If they're going to prioritize maximization of profits, you should to prioritize maximizing how much you're saving when dealing with them. Music equipment is almost always priced higher than necessary, especially drum equipment. I haven't done as many transactions with musical equipment at zia records though. At the end of the day, I can't say this is a company I'm willing to recommend or support anymore, I couldn't support them if I wanted to since they've decided they're not interested in my business anymore. What upset me the most was the change in demeanor from the 40-50 year old manager with purple hair, guy got short with me when conveying they weren't interested in my business. When I asked why I was no longer going to be able to do business with them, he handed me a card with an email on it and told me I need to contact that email to find out why. I reached out a while ago for clarification on the situation and I'm still waiting on a response, so no face to face explanation, or one at all really. I would only recommend that people buy here as that's the only way you won't get screwed, just make sure you're thoroughly educated on what it is you're seeking and make sure to sinoect closesly as refunds arent allowed, onky exchanges. As for selling and trading, I'd recommend you do it on your own if you are wanting to recoup as much as possible from what you're parting with. It's a shame to say that I tried to support them for about 10 years or so, and this is how they want to go about things. read more

I love this place! You find everything and anything a nerd could ask for! Funkos, video games, 90's movies (VHS) Anime, movies, music, KPOP and all genres of music. Vinyls and actual vinyl music players. Nerdy gag gifts, supplies, from used to new items. Prices are reasonable, and you win loyalty as you buy stuffs! My favorite is if you don't want a plastic bag, in exchange in the cost of a bag, they give you a puzzle piece to choose one of their 3 organizations you'd wish to donate to. Which is SO COOL! I brought in 14 albums to sell and was told it would take a while to review them and they'll give me a call when they're ready. I walked around the store for 20 minutes and then sat in my car for an hour and a half without a phone call. After walking back in I see my albums sitting in the same exact spot and was told they wouldn't buy any of them because they couldn't be sure everything was included in the albums. This was upsetting but understandable (although everything was included in the albums). What really upset me was that I wasted 2 hours waiting and no one could even bother to call me so I could take my albums and go home. They recommended I try another Zia's location which I definitely will not be doing. Nor will I ever shop at a Zia's location again. read more

They have a pretty good selection of records and I found a really cool LP Boxset here. Very well organized, easy to find the artists you are looking for by alphabetical order. They also have CDs and Cassettes. Along with tons of collectable items, not all related to music. Big selections of books too. Although I would beware of the used records that are 5 dollars because I bought one and it skipped to where it was unlistenable. All in all, this place is similar to Bookmans but MUCH BETTER. This place has a much better selection of vinyl in terms of condition and a much more friendly and welcoming atmosphere. If you are just getting into the hobby of record collecting I would check this place out as a first time place. If you cant find any records you like, there are plenty of other things you can find! read more

First, it's in an outdoor mall shopping center with plenty of parking. The store is pretty large with a fairly large selection of used (and some new) DVD's, Blu-ray s, cd's, and other odds and ends. They have t/shirts, video games, novelty items, etc. You can turn in used movies and cds for credit. Since this was my first visit, I didn't sign up for their membership club. But, maybe if you're a frequent shopper, it would be worth the time. read more

Sold me 7 seasons of various TV shows(decent quality pre owned dvds I was happy with) and then a few weeks later on a trade claimed the same dvds were *too scratched and we can do $7* but they have no scratches(pics) and even had dated price tags from zia still on a few items totalling over $50 from less than a month ago. I am a huge fan of Zia's and shop at 3 locations, with this Mesa location being the absolute worst. I like to shop at different locations because their stuff varies so much from store to store. I also like to bring things in with my to trade, as if it weren't for us who come in to trade you wouldn't be in business. So when i go in on a Saturday afternoon, i expect to have to wait some time to get them to look at my trade and make me an offer. I never expexted to be told it would take an hour. An hour? Ordered a movie 2 weeks before Christmas. What's supposed to be a Christmas gift. They were supposed to have it transferred from their Thunderbird store. I was told they were too busy helping new established customers to give me a call and let me know that they could not find it. This place is Extremely disgusting It's like a fleamarket inside. I don't think they have AC because it's hotter then hell in the store. And if you plan on selling / Exchange anything with them be prepared to WAIT multiple hours. I brought a stack of my grandfathers old vinyls and it took them almost 3 hours to tell me they're too old for them and they don't fit their stores a vibe. I can understand the albums are too old and they didn't want to purchase them perfectly OK with that but why on earth does it take you three hours to tell me that. I was treated very unfairly at this Mesa Zia location. The assistant manager, Maddie, was not helpful like most Zia associates at other locations. I traveled from Buckeye, AZ to Mesa (50 miles) to purchase two blu-ray discs that were only available at that location. Upon checkout, I was informed I could not use more than one 10% Off Survey coupon per day. I've been shopping at Zia and using these survey coupons (They used to be 20%, yet I remained loyal after the drop) for years at EVERY SINGLE OTHER ZIA LOCATION, and while some locations allow me to use multiple survey coupons in one swift transaction, most tell me they have to do separate transactions. But NEVER have they told me I couldn't use more than one coupon per day. This is not in print anywhere on the receipt or in-store. So this seems like some sort of personal bias towards me (especially since I explained my situation, only to be faced with Maddie's stone-cold, insincere apology and insistance that while she had the AUTHORITY to approve the transaction, she "wasn't going to do it because that's not how we operate here" whatever that means. Well, if this is how you operate, Zia, you can count me out. I've been a loyal patron of this store for more than a decade and I've spent countless hundreds of dollars every few months at Zia in the past. No more. Zia Later! read more

They have a great record selection and I've found some of my favorite albums here, including an original 1968 UK press of Wonderwall Music, George Harrison's first movie soundtrack. Got it for a steal after finding other copies online selling for $250! I love all the fun kitschy stuff they sell there as well, I am such a sucker for it! Great movies and book selection too! Okay so, i was JUST there. & it will be my last. Never have i ever felt so discriminated or judged when i went somewhere in my life. The lady rudely demanded i leave my back pack at the front. When i didn't find what i was looking for i went back & asked for my bag, even said please. This place is awful. I just went there to pick up my moms trade on her behalf, because wasn't feeling well and they would not give it to me! I had her zia card AND her drivers license l AND I called her to let the person at the trade counter know that she indeed was my mom. But the girl behind the counter told her that she had to physically come in and get it.The costumer service here is egregious. If you do buy something there prepare to keep it, or buy something else from the store, cause you'll never see any money back. Bought a used Xbox One controller there. When I looked it over and saw it had no provisions for batteries (ok, I'm not a professional gamer) I walked back into the store to for a charger for it. They didn't have one but I was told that "pretty much any xbox charger would work". I said thanks and headed to Walmart for a charger. Got home, discovered the charger wouldn't fit this controller. Returned the charger and bought a charging cable on Amazon only to find that it didn't fit either. Decided it just wasn't worth the trouble and bought a new one at Walmart that used good ol' AA batteries. Returned the useless controller only to be told that I couldn't get my money back, only a "gift card" IE, if they're going to give me any money it must be spent at their store. I had no intentions of going to the store again, but if I plan on getting my 60 bucks back in any way shape or form I guess I will be going back, begrudgingly. Not happy at all. read more

I really like the company as a whole, and I had great experiences at all of the stores excluding this one. The staff I've encountered time and time again are RUDE. I even spoke to the "manager" once and he was just as rude! I don't know what needs to happen, but hire a new manager and new staff. I have a great experience at the Chandler store every time, the Mesa store is just more convenient (since I live in Mesa) but now I refuse to go there because of the constant bad experience I've had. When I mentioned this to an employee at the Chandler store, he said he gets that same feedback all the time! That the Mesa store has rude staff and they keep losing customers who prefer to go to other stores. PLEASE hire new staff and a new manager at this location! It's not good customer service to have rude people refuse to help you out when you're trying to shop. read more
