We tried a mango pineapple smoothie which is only made with almond milk. Unfortunately, with an almond allergy we asked them to use water only, so the consistency was different, but was still tasty. We also tried the crispy chicken wrap, Caesar salad wrap, grilled protein bowl, and a Dubai chocolate cheese cake. Everything was ok to good. It was all very fresh, but the steak in the protein bowl was chewy, some things lacked a little flavor, while others were very flavorful. So just a bit inconsistent. Service was friendly and helpful. The Bosphorus, the 32-kilometer (20-mile)-long north-south strait, has been a waterway of the…read morehighest importance since ancient times in Turkey. Its English name comes from a Greek legend: Zeus had an affair with a beautiful woman named Io. When Hera, his wife, discovered his infidelity, she turned Io into a cow and created a horsefly to sting her on the rump. Io jumped clear across the strait. Thus, "bous" = "cow" and "poros" = "crossing place": Bosphorus = "crossing place of the cow." Located off of busy Franklin Avenue in Nutley, my partner, our friends, and I have decided on our dinner at this family-owned-and-run BYOB establishment, which has been open since 1995. A reservation was made for a party of 4 by calling their restaurant. Upon arrival after three years, we were welcomed by Nora, the owner, and made our way to a table by the piano inside, evoking a cozy, thoughtfully designed, upscale vibe with music playing softly. Their menu features Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine. For starters, we decided on the Puffed Rill Pastry and Grape Leaves. Our main meal consisted of all lamb dishes (Lamb Shish Kebab, Beyti Kebab, Lamb Chops, and Lamb Sauté). Our food was fresh, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection, accompanied by a beautifully presented dish. Everything was authentically made with love here. Wish we could have stayed for dessert, as they looked amazing, but some of us were in a rush. It's definitely on the higher end cost but worth the taste. Our visit ended with a hug and a piece of candy.

I was truly looking forward to enjoying this place because the Yelp reviews seem to rave about the…read morecozy atmosphere, wonderful service, and the fresh food preparation. But although I found the restaurant to be cozy and my server to be friendly, the food though freshly prepared was just average at best. Let me explain. So, after perusing the menu, I saw a few Mediterranean staples, such as, baba-ghanoush, lentil soup, and a beef Shawarma entrée. So I decided to order all three of those items. Now, let me tell you not only was I excited to taste the food here, but I truly wanted to experience what a majority of people on yelp said about this place and its food. But I soon discovered that you truly cannot trust other peoples opinions when it comes to food. You just literally have to try it yourself to see if it even resembles that cuisines standard benchmarks. Well anyway, let me get to what I thought about the food. The lentil soup it's pretty tasty, but it would serve lukewarm. The baba-ghanoush was also tasty, but the pita bread was stale and void of any flavor. And as for the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, it was literally chopped up cubes of beef! Nothing near to what a standard Shawarma entrée should resemble, or let alone taste like! To be quite honest, I was so disenchanted with the Shawarma entrée that I asked my server to take it away and just give me the bill. I was ready to go! But my server genuinely saw my disappointment with this so-called Beef Shawarma that she pleaded with me to try another entrée. So I asked her to recommend another entrée to me. And she recommended the Skewered Chicken entrée. So, I caved in and went ahead and ordered this Skewered Chicken entrée. But I should've just went with my gut feeling and just should have paid the bill and left. I say this because it took forever for them to prepare this Skewered Chicken entrée and I mean forever! And this is on a Tuesday night with only two other people inside the restaurant, so literally this place was empty! (Not sure if the Cook made me wait for this dish out of spite for me sending back the first entree but that is my suspicion). Anyway, I got my server's attention and she told me if I could wait a few more minutes because they were plating my dish and that it will be out shortly. And that literally took another 10 minutes. To say that I was eager to get out of this place would be an understatement. I was standing up literally putting on my jacket when the dish finally reached my table. My server asked me kindly to return to my seat and to try her recommended entrée. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and I did so. The Skewered Chicken entrée was a little better than the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, but really nothing to write home about. What a letdown! I really wanted to give this restaurant one star, but my server really showed genuine concern about my dining experience. And I truly appreciated that. And so as for my take on Le Souk of Montclair NJ. I would caution spending your hard earned money at this restaurant. The food is mediocre at best and there are a lot of better options in the Montclair area for Mediterranean food.

Disappointing and Overpriced Group Dining Experience…read more A friend organized a dinner for six at Mishmish, expecting a quality dining experience. Instead, we were told upon arrival that parties of six could not order from the regular menu and would receive a special chef's tasting menu. We were also informed that gratuity was automatically included. The service got off to a poor start. When I requested still water, the server responded, "So, tap for you," later explaining that the tap water was filtered. Two guests received their drinks promptly, while the rest of us waited at least 15 minutes--before the first dish even arrived. The food was served family-style, but the portions and presentation made little sense for a table of six. Most dishes came on only two plates, with one small portion intended for three people to share. We received items such as a small bun with sauce, a modest salad, a piece of smoked trout, and buttered boiled potatoes--the best dish of the meal, although hardly an impressive accomplishment. Most absurdly, two chicken legs were served for three people to share. How exactly were three guests expected to divide two chicken legs? A tasting menu for six should be properly portioned, not presented as a series of awkward, undersized servings. There was also confusion about the menu. When one guest pointed out that two listed items on our special menu had not been served, the server consulted the chef and returned to say that we had received everything we were supposed to receive. If items had been removed from our menu, we should have been told at the beginning of the meal--or the menu should have been corrected. Following this we were provided A dessert consisting of an extremely bitter artichoke-based liqueur and one small scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream for every three guests to share described as "a gesture" based on the menu confusion. The presentation for a table of six was virtually nonexistent. Dishes were simply placed on the table, and we sometimes had to ask what we had been served. The service was mediocre at best, the portions were poorly planned, and the overall experience felt disorganized. At $130 per person--$780 total, including the automatic gratuity--the meal was nowhere near the quality or value expected at that price. Needless to say, I will not return.
